executive in april. we are trying to find out if that agency, or the agency the official is with but we do know he told the ap he received a voice mail from someone at the nfl confirming the video had arrived and they had seen it. however, law enforcement official can't confirm if anyone did actually watch the video. now this comes 24 hours after roger goodell told cbs news nora o'donnell that the league was never able to obtain the the video. this official as he wanted the nfl to see it before it could decide on rice's punishment. all this with ray rice puts spotlight squarely on the problem of domestic violence in this country. just hours after the video first aired two hash tags started trending on twitter, one why i stayed, the other why i left. tonight "eyewitness news" anchor pat ciarrocchi takes a closer look at this outpouring of first hand accounts. >> reporter: grain i surveillance from the revel casino elevator has prompted an outpouring, especially from

those who survived violence at the hand of the loved one. kathleen hess has been there, she walk away from an abusive relationship. >> behind closed doors they are completely different person. they don't show to the world. so it is really hard for other people to understand or even believe you. >> reporter: social media opened a door with the help of writer beverly gooden who created the hash tags why i stayed and why i left. on twitter, hash tags have struck a cord. rachel writes why i stayed, he made me believe it was my fault, in one could help me. i was crazy. he would change. stripped me of all strength and confidence. and then nancy writes why she stayed, because word of wisdom from elders taught to endure, be patient and it will get better. but then it was misty who found courage to leave, after this. when my seven year-old asked me if her husband would treat her, the way daddy treated me. the last straw is different for victims of abuse.

this happened earlier today in gloucester county, new jersey. when you see the crash it is happened to believe the driver survived. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter is in west deptford to show thus video tonight, walt. >> reporter: it happened along the track behind me and when you look at video of that impact you talk to the eyewitnesses here that heard the crash, saw the suv being dragged down the tracks, it is truly amazing that the women behind the wheel survived with what police are saying is non-life threatening injuries. video shows the suv slammed by the freight train at the crown point road crossing, the vehicle pushed along the tracks for 60 yards. >> under the kitchen and heard this big boom, like a pop actually like a pop. >> reporter: fortunately neighbors say following the impact something caused the suv to flip out from underneath the engine sliding on to a nearby street before it was totally crushed by the train which rumbled on for

another 200 yards before it could be stopped. >> the fire company, they got her in the ambulance in that time. >> reporter: mike raymond and other neighbors who ran to help said they were grateful to see the driver, vehicles only occupant was responsive as she was rescued and rush to the hospital. >> it could have been a whole lot worse, whole lot worse, yeah, that woman was quite fortunate. >> reporter: police now say warning devices were fully operational, when the train, like this one, came to the crossing. >> the flashers there on crown point and river road were activated from what we were told and from what we're gathering she tried to beat the train. extremely fortunate. it could have rolled the car, as of right now she was taken to cooper hospital for her injuries. >> reporter: conrail officials responding to our inquiries, say that all crossing device -- all crossing gate devices were working properly

at the time, in fact, they say the train was blowing its horn as is standard protocol. there were no injuries to the train crew. live from west deptford i'm walt hunter, cws3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thank you. to atlantic city now and more than 10,000 people who are now looking for work after five of the cities casino closed, or will do so shortly. "eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan was there today as the search for is what next began for a lot of people. >> reporter: eager to land a new job laid off casino workers pour in the atlantic city convention center yesterday, 60 employers on hand with about 1500 open positions. >> i'm optimistic that i will find a job. >> reporter: lisa manic lost a guest services job at revel casino but she believes her skill set should transfer. >> every company has a customer service department and that is where i'm very good in. >> reporter: finding positions with thousands of workers laid off because of casino closings is one of the biggest challenges the new jersey

department of labor has ever faced. >> this is the largest number in the short period of time that our more permanent , you know, super storm sandy ones companies were repaired and got back opened, the jobs came back. this is, you know more of a challenge as folks will be out of work for longer terms. >> reporter: more than a thousand job seekers took the opportunity to speak with representatives from a broad spectrum of companies. >> personally i feel optimistic. i feel like if i do what i'm supposed to do somebody will hire me. it is no hot that there are any jobs but are you qualified for jobs. >> reporter: with trump entertainment set to close plaza and taj mal had there will be thousands more but employer officials say they plan to have more job fares. in atlantic city, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a new poll shows more than half of new jersey residents don't want the state constitution changed to allow casinos outside of atlantic city. according to the stock upon poll 51 # percent said they would oppose that amendment.

25 percent support that had casino expansion. rest did not express an opinion. a new jersey woman is suing harrah's casino in atlantic city, 26 year-old amy walsh claimed security guard assaulted her two years ago. walsh says that she is still traumatized by the incident caught on surveillance video and she is seeking an unspecified amount in damaging. harrah's released a statement which reads in part, quote we take safety and security of all of our guests and employees very seriously. our security personnel are train to use the least amount of force while insuring they take steps necessary to protect guest, employees and themselves. after much debate philadelphia's mayor michael nutter says he will sign a bill that decriminalizes use and possession of small amounts of marijuana mayor nutter says he is supporting councilman jim kenny's effort to spare young people from getting a criminal record and ruining their lives. under this bill someone caught with less than an ounce of marijuana will face a $25 fine. if people catch someone

yesterday but it is believed to have occurred sometime over the summer. the the value of those missing ipads, right around $4,800. well, when it comes to math and school sometimes it just does not add up, survey after survey find american kids are behind their peers in other countries when it comes to math. >> there is research that shows we can do better by changing the way we teach the subject but not everyone agrees. our carol erickson tell us why some say the trouble starts with the number 11. >> reporter: math, eye blurring, numbers constant counting all swimming around like a school of fish in your head. every where worldwide little kid learning easy math early to get a jump on the harder stuff later. these second graders at philadelphia's mathematics civic and sciencees charter school, no exception, being taught math, american tried and true method. each number becomes a stick, or a sticky fink are.

>> sometimes i will use my finger. >> reporter: is there a better way for american children to learn math, say the way they do tonight china and korea top countries on math test. their research shows of all of the numbers, ten rules. make a ten before doing anything else to a math problem and students supposedly catch on faster and better. this teacher disagree. >> when we do our ten's and count by patterns sometimes students get more confused. >> reporter: math charter school founder veronica joyner saw some of the research that blames the english language for america's lower math skills. instead of teachers saying 23, as we say in our country, how about 2103 like they do in the top foreign countries, to emphasize place value. but changing our ways now does not add up to veteran teacher mrs. joyner. >> it would be confusing because students here will have learn it one way and now they are using another way. >> reporter: future, we're counting on you.

is 78 degrees. wind south at 5 miles an hour. a very pleasant afternoon. tomorrow not so pleasant. we have showers and thunderstorms over the midwest and heading toward canada you can see this line. next time we see this comma shaped signature in the radar we will know it is a very powerful storm system. we will see that a lot with sum are time storm systems and also in the winter. the thinks all moving east abe some of these storms severe with the tornado on the ground in ohio, late this afternoon. right now in philadelphia 78. cool in the poconos 69. reading is 77. millville 73 degrees. average high this time of the year is 81. most of our area were very close today so a very normal day across the region. we will watch this front moving from the west with some of the greater dynamics from the storm going to the north close tore low pressure. that is good news. right now we are not expecting anything in the way of severe weather but strong storms. temperatures in the 80's, humid, behind it, dryer and cooler.

but in the meantime those storms will come through with bad timing during the evening rush. in the wake of this friday looks pleasant with northerly wind and temperatures in the 70's and then another system moves our way to bring us threat of showers on saturday with temperatures in the 70's. we will time this out for you, you can see late this afternoon storms going through canton and cleveland, ohio into erie, pennsylvania. then wye the time they move our way it will be later tomorrow. tomorrow morning in weather issues. even through noon time hour by 3:00 o'clock we will see them through reading, lancaster and allentown and after that getting through philadelphia between 4:00 and 6:00h this computer guidance has a line of storms going through right about 5:00 o'clock and then moves through south jersey by 6:00, 7:00 a few more firing up through 8:00 o'clock and late evening hours the storms are out of the region. here is what we can expect. they will be scattered but strong. gusty winds, the downpours will be very heavy, if you get caught in one of these storms. frequent lightening.

everyone. just 6:19. rush hour really starting to slow up just a little bit. we can count on your bridges to set us back a tiny bit. we are looking at that coney palmyra bridge which was scheduled, and in the process you can see right now residuals delays on either side of the bridge. take betsy ross as an alternate. we will head over to the jersey side of the ben franklin bridge where you can see jam from that toll plaza westbound over the the city and into the bridge. in addition, with the congestion for rush hour which is typical at this time we have two right lanes completely taken out for ongoing construction. we have no problem overall running out of the city and into new jersey. otherwise travel time, feeling a little bit betterment these were heavy. 422 from 202 into oaks west bun a 12 minute trip there, 23 minutes on the blue route from the schuylkill and 95 heading southbound, stay there we will be right back
