two women were seriously hurt in the crash. also this morning the hunt is still on for the the shoot shore ambush two state troopers, corporal brian dixon is kill, another trooper wounded outside of the state police barracks in northeastern, pennsylvania. and hundreds of people are sitting out for another day of walking, it is final day for susan komen three day for a cure. today is sunday september 14th, good morning everyone i'm todd quinones. here's meteorologist carol erickson with eyewitness weather. car will ol, we are off to a great start. >> we are. when we came in, of course, it was dark. you might not have noticed how great the day will look but if you looked up last night ape started to see those skies clear and this morning we are reeping benefit. the lets head outside and find a gorgeous looking day. center city philadelphia. it is cool out there. we have 55 degrees, then you move out to the reading area and we have temperatures of 53 degrees but just as bright and beautiful there. we have storm scan three not

showing us any problems whatsoever. at mosul's see a cloud or two but rain is gone. we saw quite a bit of rain yesterday. we ended up, with just generally a quarter to maybe almost as much as a half inch of rain in some spots. the not quite as much as a half an inch but close to it. our temperatures right now are cool, and the wind is out of the north and that makes air mass dry. any puddles we will see will be drying up and sunshine will help evaporate that. 47 degrees right now. that is up in the poconos in philadelphia, 56 degrees. in atlantic city 54 degrees. a bit more breezy, wind from eight, nine, 10 miles an hour from north to south. fifty-six in philadelphia a presently. fifty-two in trenton. fifty-four in wilmington. everybody is out of the 40's with the exception of the poconos. we did have have a couple of those temperatures in the 40's this morning and we will find out that same thing tomorrow. what is in the 40's, mostly the dew points. it is a very dry air mass, feels wonderful out there. temperatures by noon

64 degrees, that is it. by 3:00 p.m. 72 degrees, sunshine just a great looking day. how long will the forecast, stay looking like that? longer then you might think. i'll show you answers on the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, todd? carol, thank you. new this morning the hunt is on for a hit and run driver who caused this accident on philadelphia's waterfront. authorities tell us two cars collided at delaware avenue and somer street after 2:00 a.m. two women in their 20's were taken to the hospital. both have of them are in serious but stable condition. the driver of the the striking vehicle fled the scene on foot. and also new this morning an accident shuts down part of the i-95 southbound, blocking the ramp to enter the walt whitman bridge. a car crashed and rolled over on the highway just after four, two people were rush to the hospital, no word on their condition. a pennsylvania state trooper was also involved in the crash overnight, his

patrol cruiser was struck by a car on the schuylkill expressway, right here near montgomery avenue at around 2:30 in the morning, both drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the driver of the other car, is facing charges for driving under the influence. ambush outside a state police barracks in northeastern pennsylvania leaves one trooper dead and another critically wounded. corporal brian dixon and trooper alex douglass were both shot just before 11:00 friday night at blooming grove police barracks in pike county. douglass is in stable but critical condition, corporal dixon died at the scene. a $20,000 reward is being offered right now for any information, leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in this case. and developing right now officials are working to confirm the authenticity of a just released video that appears to show the the execution of another hostage biasis militant. cbs news correspondent daniel

nottingham tells us more about the victim british aid worker david haines. >> reporter: video released on social media saturday shows david haines, a 44 year-old aid worker from scotland on his knees with the masked man hovering over him with the knife. haines was kidnaped through northern syria last year as he delivered humanitarian aid. new video looks very much like the previous video showing the execution of two american journalist, james foley and steven sotoloff who were beheaded. in the video it appears that haines is following a script, he denounces british prime minister david cameron holding him responsible for his execution and following a trend of british prime ministers who can't find courage to say no to the americans. the same mask man with the british accent appears in all three videos and like the other two he threatens to kill yet another hostage sometime in the future. cameron called the execution

despicable and appalling. he tweeted and released a statement saying that the murder of david haines is a act of pure evil and that his heart goes out to haines family, who have have shown extraordinary courage and fortitude. cameron added we will do everything in our power to hunt down these murders, and ensure that they face justice, however long it takes. haines family has asked for privacy. >> danielle nottingham for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a student at all bright college in reading, berks county is killed in the house fire, just off of campus. nineteen year-old sophomore matt rain was from south river, new jersey and held a school record in swimming. or students in the house at the the time of the fire reportedly jumped to safety. two required medical attention. fire was contain to the basement and there were working smoke detectors. it is unclear how that fire started. search is on for a hit and run driver involved in the deadly crash in tioga. philadelphia police say a car

hit a 60 year-old man crossing the street right at 25th and allegheny and just kept on going. this happened around midnight, victim was then hit by a second car that pulled over. police later found the the striking vehicle abandoned on the 3100 block of bainbury street. the three day susan komen walk comes to an end today. this is the tenth year for the walk that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for breast cancer research. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry has the the story as walkers are already on their way. >> reporter: walkers are getting ready to start their last day of the susan komen three day event, folks are still rolling out of here. they will tackle the last 20 miles for today, totaling 60 miles. that is right, folks on friday it is 20 miles, on saturday they did 20 miles and today they will do another 20 miles and you can tell they are not even tired. you think about that, 60 miles for three days and they are all doing that in hopes of finding a cure for breast

cancer. with me is three ladies from the maryland, d.c. area. is what your name. >> yolanda, tiffany. >> how have you been surviving this you have done 40 miles, you have to do another 20 today. >> we a few aches and pains but we're pushing it through. >> reporter: turf say i love the outfit. can we show the the hand? i love it. you guys are being treated like celebrities here. so many people are trying to take your picture. this is your first time in philly. how has that within. >> really good. people are really nice. the it feels really good. >> reporter: turf ask you are a survivor yourself. what does it feel like when you come here and do this event, because you did it twice in d.c. before. >> well, just being a survivor it makes me and remind me what i'm doing here and how tough things can be at times and do the not get too down and you pick yourself up, people are supporting you so you just

exclusive information about a mystery skin rash that is spread ago monk students at temple university. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on the condition that sent dozens to seek medical treatment. >> instead of comparing notes, those temple university students are comparing skin rashes, on the back side of their legs. >> it is all the way down my leg. >> it is gross. >> i had a rash that looked

like bug by the. the months keith the owe by the. i didn't know what it was two weeks ago. >> reporter: rashes are fading new but they took picture of what they first looked like, red raised blotches irritating and itchy. >> over the last year we have seen approximately 100 to 120 students who have presented with a very similar type of rash to the back of their legs. it is a contact dermatitis. >> reporter: mark dennie, director of student health at temple, said they have in the been able to identify what is causing the rashes but have been able to determine they are not bug by the. some suspect it could be from sitting on the benches at cecil b more subway station. >> we did a visual inspection of the benches. we at no time saw any infestation. we don't know what happened or what the causes but you why take chances, why not go ahead and address it. we went ahead and power washed it, we did a treatment and then sealed it. >> they are barricaded off, the benches down in the the station. >> reporter: students with rashes have been told to wear

pants for now. >> i wish i knew what the answer was as to why i have these bumps all over myself. >> reporter: temple university tells us most students have been successfully treated with a topical cream. reactions are minor with no lasting repercussions. i'm stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". two new york letters were rescued in the water off of miami florida avenue they drift todd far from their boat. person on shore noticed one of them in distress and called police president the rescue boats found them and pulled them on board and they were not injured. a home owner in scottsdale, arizona gets the shock of his life when this coyote darts inside his home. after he he called 911 he found the die yet a sleep in his fireplace. greg new reports. >> come here. >> reporter: 7:00 a.m. thursday morning jonathan and his dog are heading to work when he realized he has a home intruder. >> my firearm and i am trained with the weapon.

so, i, you know, i pulled it out just in casey did need to use it. >> reporter: he called 911 to report the threat. >> making sure it wasn't an attack. >> reporter: but that threat this 25-pound baby coyote was already fast asleep. >> once it had settled down, it settled down in the fireplace. >> unfortunately this little guy is acting like too much like a pet. >> reporter: jonathan was not taking any chances. >> i'm armed. >> reporter: with the help of his neighbor scott. >> could not get it to go out. the the unwanted house guest was not going anywhere. >> so he was calm. didn't move. we tossed something at it. it didn't move. we tossed him and hit it, it didn't move. >> it is not taking a nap, it is in rem sleep, it is in full on, 100 percent i'm just going to bed and, you know, i had a long night out, leave me alone.

>> reporter: police arrived armed with a broom. >> hello, hello. >> reporter: still out cold. >> we're doing a fireplace rescue. >> reporter: until animal rescue gets there and was able to remove the the the little guy that was greg reporting. animal tested negative for rabies and released in a less populated area. we are off to a cool start this morning, carol but you we will stay nice and dry today, right. >> yes, we are. we've got a great looking day. it is complete liz different looking then it was yesterday with the clouds and the rain. today it is the sunshine and just perfect weather conditions. people are outside on the boardwalk in ocean city because it is still summertime and it is going to look like summer. maybe not feeling exactly like summer because it won't be hot anyplace. temperatures will be mild though every where. 54 degrees in reading. roads are dry. sky is bright. weather is, superb. we love this. storm scan three, three hours, no problems.

now, we have had our problems yesterday afternoon and in some cases we saw some light sprinkles in the morning but it really got heavy in the afternoon yesterday, that system is gone. we are left with great looking weather coming up. 56 degrees in philadelphia right now. in the 50's, also in trenton at 52. fifty-four in wilmington. we have 57 in wildwood. 10 degrees cooler in the north. 47 degrees in the poconos that the point. future weather any problems? do you see any? i don't see any. this is 4:00 in the afternoon. in rain has come by. we saw enough yesterday. monday, nothing, no problem, let's pick this up monday afternoon again. ah, what is this. this is our one shot of rain this week. if you love rain this is when we will see it. it looks like a quiet week coming up. this puts it in overnight time period early on tuesday. rain comes through by 7:00, sit gone? notice sharp line of clearing. obviously as we have learned

too many times through hard experience sometimes this isn't right but sometimes we have a better chance this week because it is generally a quiet weather pattern coming up for us. we can expect this in the morning on tuesday. we will get rain showers. then they will move out of here. we're left with sunshine by the time we hit tuesday at noon and then in the afternoon. so not a bad time, at all, and then the week, i think you'll love. get out your cameras, take a picture of the seven day forecast coming up because it is a great one. seventy-three in philadelphia at the shore. 68 degrees. poconos 65 degrees. it is sunny, nice, beautiful in every single location. if you are heading to the beaches today just remember a moderate risk of rip currents. just watch for. that temperature of 58 degrees. water temperature is even warmer then that. seventy-three, our temperature, the most, we will get this afternoon, with the the sunshine, and tonight, we will drop down, it is cool, 52 degrees. we've got a very cool night coming up for us and as we take a look the a the eyewitness weather seven day forecast have we've got temperatures in the 70's the

entire week, that one shot, of rain, the way it looks right now is that early on tuesday, otherwise, it is sunshine, loving this weather. you know, meteorology uses math for forecasting so that subject is very important to a lot of other subjects. with you when it comes to math in schools sometimes it just doesn't add up. survey show that american students ranked 30th out of 65 countries when it comes to math and there is research we can do better by changing the traditional way we teach and talk math but not everybody agrees. math? eye blurring, numbers, counting, all swimming aren't like a school of fish in your head. >> ♪ >> reporter: every where worldwide, little kids learning easy math, early to get a jump on the harder stuff later. these second graders at philadelphia's mathematics civics and sciences charter school is no exception being taught math as an american

tried and true method. each number becomes a stick or sticky finger. >> sometimes i will use my finger. >> reporter: is there a better way for american children to learn math say the way they do tonight china and korea top countries on math test. their research shows of all of the numbers, ten rules. make a ten before doing anything else to a math problem and you catch on faster and better, this teacher difficulties agree. >> when we do our tens and count by patterns sometimes students get more confusing counting by ten. >> reporter: veronica joyner saw some of the research that partially blames the english language, for americans lower math scores. and, this teacher saying 23 we do in our country how about 2103 like they do in the top foreign countries to emphasize place value but changing our ways now doesn't add up, to veteran teacher mrs. joyner. >> it would be confusing because students here who have learned it one way and then they are using another way.

we're moving traffic cam here to two days unfortunately, blue route southbound between schuylkill conshohocken exit and exit number 13 saint david, road construction, right lane is closed as you can see, very, very slow traffic. in fact it is jammed now from the schuylkill conshohocken, to saint david and we will be like this all morning long. we will move traffic cam again to the schuylkill at spring garden. schuylkill is moving fine here, heavy volume or more volume then usual scene but it is a beautiful day, folks are out, looking to the lefties martin luther king drive and that is closed to the ben franklin parkway and falls bridge for recreational activities. the great day to bike, walk, run, jog, that is what folks are doing. that is latest from the cbs-3 traffic center, i'm ann evans now todd, back to you. ann, thank

today, it is sunday september 14th, good morning, i'm todd quinones. here's meteorologist car will ol erickson with eyewitness weather. carol, we are off to a cool start this morning. >> we are. temperatures in the 50's this morning. they have been cooler then that. we've got a great afternoon, unlike, yesterday a afternoon. that is not even thinking about that. let's think about the sunshine that we have got for us coming up. it looks beautiful looking at center city. just a couple have of clouds no problems whatsoever. lots of sunshine. we will find a beautiful day in ocean city. look at all of the people outside on the boardwalk right now. they are running, biking, having a fabulous time, head down to rehoboth beach, where it is in the dark. the sunnies up. look at how pretty this looks as people come outside on the boardwalk there as well. we have got a little bit of the breeze there with 21 miles an hour winds. storm scan three in problems whatsoever. loop over last three hours,

radio calls from the scene. >> emergency traffic, go ahead. >> unaudible. corporal byron dixon was killed and another trooper wounded. authorities say they have questioned a person of interest but stressed they do not have a suspect in custody. shooting happened in their remote town of blooming grove pike county 140 miles north of philadelphia, "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has more on the investigation. >> reporter: state police commissioner frank noonan describe the crime in no uncertain terms. >> this attack was an am bush, our troopers were leaving the barracks and were shot, without warning. and had no chance to defend themselves. >> reporter: brian dixon and alex douglass were both struck before 11:00 at blooming grove police barracks in pike

county. douglass was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. corporal dixon was found dead. >> it has touched us to the core that something could happen. >> reporter: search immediately began for suspect in the case. officials say they believe the shooter has left the rural area where shooting happened and search parameters have been expanded. person of interest has been questioned in the case but is not considered a suspect. in the meantime a word of caution for the public. >> we have a very dangerous, armed criminal, that is already killed one pennsylvania state trooper and wounded another and that is not in custody. >> reporter: corporal dixon graduated from the police academy in 2007 and transfer from the blooming grove barracks from the posting in philadelphia. governor corbett spoke about him late saturday afternoon. >> corporal brian dixon leaves behind two young boys and a wife and i cannot imagine the heartache that they aringing through. >> reporter: matt rivers for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and yesterday governor corbett ordered flags to fly

"eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live at the cheering station for walkers in society hill, syma. >> reporter: that is right, todd. the these walkers, they have come from all over not just here in philadelphia but more than 1600 people crossing the street right the now. the lets take a look right here. lots of folks. we cannot even stop them to talk because they are on a in mission to complete their 60-mile journey. these folks have been walking 20 miles on friday, saturday and then they will complete another 20 miles here on sunday. now this is a small cheering section here at the point plaza and love park. lots of folks out here just trying to cheer them on.

a lot of miles if you think about it, 60 miles all together. these folks said they were sore from walking these past few days but they are doing it a all for a great cause. they are trying to find a cure for breast cancer. now you here is a fun fact. is there more than 1600 people participating, exactly 242 of them are men. so this is an all inclusive event. the lots of folks out here, supporting their mothers, their sisters, they are best friends, their daughters, just going to try to find a cure for breast cancer. this is the last day. the is there a couple other cheering sections in center city if you want to cheer them on. it includes second street between pine and south street, that cheering section and from 10:15 to 1:15 and is and then 60 miles will come to an end at the navy yard at closing ceremony which is 4:30 later today. you could be part of that as well if you want to come down there but it is a total of

september 19th. there is a new, easier way to pay your bills. first we did a way with checks on line and now it seems like we can ditch the web as well. three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan on how you can pay with a picture. >> reporter: when al pays his bills he takes out his smart phone, opens up his mobile banking app, snaps a picture and he is done. >> it is wild technology. >> faith owe bill pay is in infancy. it is a big thing thaw will see increasingly, rolled out 2014/15 and it will be a stapel. >> reporter: right now a small number of financial institutions are using mobile photo bill pay. and bankers report it is a high tech magnet for customers. >> people who are using this really love it. >> reporter: how does snapping a picture of a bill actually pay it. >> the bank is actually able to take that image and extract information about the builder from the the picture, and so we can enable the customer to
