based on casanova's memoir, histoire de ma vie. it -- it clocks in -- i understand the memoir, at 3,700 pages. >> m-hm. >> jian: not exactly a slim novella. >> no, it isn't. >> jian: and you've read it twice? >> well, parts of it probably more than that. but i've read it a couple times, yeah. >> jian: why? why so fascinated with this? >> well, i -- it wasn't so much because i ever had any fascination for casanova. it really came about once we started doing this. michael sturminger who -- who wrote the piece and directs it, the script, as is michael's want at times, was -- came in a bit light. it was unfinished, and we worked on it really absolutely through the opening and entire run of the show in vienna, which was a long fivee. you don't do operas for months and months.

so we did five shows in vienna, which -- we got it open, and it seemed to go pretty well. then we did sydney, which was not going so well. and after that, i thought we really needed to work on it, so i then went back to the source material a couple of times. was -- was this, then, a vocational mission for you, or did you actually become consumed in this memoir? wonderful storyteller. and he lived a very rich, interesting life. he did so many things. he was a priest, he was a soldier, he was a spy, he was an alchemist, he was a kabalist, he was an occultist, he was a charlatan, he was a freemason, he was a libertine, he was a ro --. it -- and, of course, the big obsession of his life,

cruelty and cowardice. and, of course, he was -- oddly enough, i just directed it in paris last year -- >> jian: yes. >> -- withng, french cast and with an actor who was 48,000 time better than i would ever have dreamt of being. >> jian: and fusing the 18th century with the modern day, i u understand? >> yeah. i did it in a -- to me, it made perfect sense, but i did it almost in a rehearsal sewithout set -- with kind of rehearsal costumes and all actors on stage the entire play.tting and i'm -- i'm very,d of this production and that group of actors. but i think the thing is, once you do -- once you're kind of set in people's minds a certain way, there are people

who see you as if you bore a resemblance to that character, which i certainly did not. i -- the only character i could think of that i was a very -- even a little bit like was lennie mice and men. >> jian: have you ever phoned it in, honestly? >> yeah. but not -- you know, y in ofif you get to a set and you already have doubts about the material and you speak withou - the powers that be about the material and say, you know, could we just make -- you know? in other words, do you mind if i rewrite this? and they like it like that, and their idea of directing is kind of, could you make a happy face? could you make an angry face? could you shout?

♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> i miss her and i love her. >> a pregnant woman gunned down and killed outside her home. police say she was an innocent victim and tonight they are searching for her killer. good evening, everyone, i'm diana rocco. natasha has the night off. >> doctors performed an emergency c section saving the baby who remains in critical condition. the shooting happened in broad daylight on the 1500 block of adam avenue in frankford. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has more. >> reporter: 26 year old meghan doto wanted to name her unborn child carmine before her life was cut short on a sunny sunday morning. >> one of the rounds traveled down the street and struck the 26 year old woman in the right side of the face. >> a dozen shots were fired from

this intersection about a block from where she was sitting while watching a neighbor's seven year old daughter. she immediately went down and was rush to the hospital by police. she didn't make it and doctors had to perform an emergency c section. >> you cannot let your kids play outside no more like you got to be careful. you got to be watching them 24 24/7. >> lost all the way around much it's a shame that it happened. >> police questioned three different people during the day sunday but no arrests have been made so far. investigators are still trying to determine why the shots were fired in the first place. >> she was not the intended target. she was just unfortunately at the wrong place when the shooting occurred up the block. >> she was well spoken. she had manners. >> in the meantime, a neighborhood mourns the loss of one of their own. >> i miss her and i love her. >> police say the suspect likely fled the scene driving a white ford crown victoria with tendon windows. if you know anything about this crime, you're asked to call police. we're outside of police headquarters, matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

>> an investigation is underway night in newtown square after a pedis covers a body there. police were called to gradyville road near spring ton says voir afternoon today. officials haven't released any information about the victims identity. >> a 50 to us season dollars reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest in the deadly ambush of two pennsylvania state troopers. corporal byron dixon was killed during a shift change late friday at the blooming grove barrack. trooper alex douglas underwent surgery and has regained consciousness. the men were shot as they left the barrack about 35 miles east of scranton. by order of governor corbett, state flags will remain at half staff until dixon's funeral. >> turning to weather it is text nick klee still summer but starting to feel much more like fall out there and we're in for a chilly morning tomorrow as we get ready to head back to work and school.

meteorologist justin drabick is in the weather center for us tonight with more. hi, justin. >> hey, diana, that's right. we'll break out those jackets and hoodies tomorrow morning again just like today temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s to start off your monday but today, obviously on the cooler side. felt more like fall with temperatures struggling to get to near 70. coon even make it to 70 in philadelphia. we didn't hit 70 degrees in millville and in dover, delawa delaware. this is the coolest day since we've had since may 29th. we had high temperature of 60 degrees. right now we're at 59 at the airport. 50 in allentown. 45 degrees in mount pocono. look at the suburbs. quakertown frick this hour. already down to 49 in pottstown. chilly air mass in place because high pressure remains right on top of us and that means clear skies, cal and winds any heat we had today from the will escape right back into the atmosphere. here's your morning temperatur temperatures. 40s for the suburb. low 50s for the city. near 50 degrees towards the coastline in atlantic city. millville a low of around 50. see a lot of sunshine tomorrow. we do rebound nicely though.

mid and upper 70s for the inland spots. low 70s at the shore. 60s in the poconos. temperatures stay the cool side for the neck seven days. i'll break down that full forecast in a few minutes. diana. >> thanks, justin. power outage at six flags great adventure leaves riders stranded today. officials at the park say a fault thee transformer was to blame for the problem. no injuries were reported. six flags says visitors were removed from the attractions within 20 minutes. >> all of a sudden everything just shut down. and we're like, okay, we're stuck here. how do we get off? >> rides were reopened little by little as power was restored. a boil water advisory in effect for residents in kennett square, chester county. a water main break happened last night on east south street and as a result all residents are being asked to boil their water tonight. there are no signs of contamination. this is just a precaution. after two days of negative tests the ban will be lifted.

a 10 year old boy is recovering after being hit in the head with a falling brick when a wall came tumbling down in north philadelphia. l and i was called to the 1500 block of north 26th street sunday afternoon to investigate. we're told the wall was left over for a previous demolition because it was supporting the home next door. 10 occupants of that home are now displaced and receiving assistance from the red cross. >> top leaders in great britain held an emergency meeting to plot the next move in the fight against islamic stream mist group isis. it comes just one day after a britt turn aid worker was shown on video apparently being executed. cbs news correspondent brian web has more. >> reporter: the brother of david haines spoke out today demanding justice against the terrorist who's killed the britt turn aid worker. >> my family and i agree with the government that we need to identify those traveling to fight for isol and on their return to the uk face consequences of their actions. >> reporter: 44 year old
