trinity staffing services on south broad street. "eyewitness news" reporter char lieutenant huffman is live at broad and ritner and she talk to the victim's brother, charlotte. >> reporter: jessica, i talk with dominic basso the victim's brother and owner of the business here trinity staffing services. we talk on the phone as he was with his sister at the hospital and he says that he thinks that she is going to make it. crime tape and a sign telling employees to come back tomorrow are the the only signs left of this morning's attack. police are searching for the man whom they say walk into the south philadelphia business just after 9:00 o'clock demanded work, and then stabbed the five three-year old female employee three times in the the chest, and snatched her purse and ran. bob lutes was outside at the time. >> i saw a with man coming out of the staffing agency holding a towel, napkin to her neck and looked down saw blood dripping from her. >> reporter: victim walk across the street to methodist hospital, where they left a

trail have blood stains behind. trinity is an employment staffing agency that places people in jobs, and cuts their paychecks. charles lions is one of them. >> i'm shock. >> reporter: lions knows victim first hand and says that she often hires ex-owe fenders. >> give people a chance, you know what i mean, mainly a lot of guys that i know of are ex-owe fenders. so she gives people an opportunity, you know, to work and take care of their families. >> reporter: no official word on any connection between the the suspect and victim but lions has his own theory. >> my guess is i'm not surprised because by the people, mentality of the people that work there. so i'm shock to hear it but at the same time i'm not surprised. >> reporter: now this evening police are still searching for the suspect, they are describing, as a black male, with braids, wearing a blue hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans. we are live tonight in south philadelphia i'm charlotte huffman for cbs-3 "eyewitness

news". two police officers were treated for minor injuries following a barricade situation in south philadelphia. "eyewitness news" at seventh and morris, police say a man visiting a friend's house barricaded himself in that basement. man ended up surrendering to police. it is appearing that the beating of a same sex couple in center city philadelphia could become a federal case even as philadelphia police continue their investigation. so far detectives have only questioned persons of interest, in the attack. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live at central detective now with the very latest, steve. >> reporter: chris, slowly but surely we are starting to hear from the other side, many in the group up to 15 are starting to prep their attorneys and give statements to police. continuing that, more are starting to expecting to come into central detective within the hour to deliver their statements as well. all this happening while that federal investigation is being call for by members of the local community. too many questions, not enough

answers, police say they have a lot of work to do before they have a clear picture of how a gays couple was attacked and then beaten one week ago. new in the investigation thursday, sources telling cbs-3 at least six in this group up to 15 have come forward with either their version of the story or some version of talk to my attorney, including this. >> i'm sure the police will make an announcement in due time. >> reporter: one line statement from the attorney of this man, who came forward as a person of interest late wednesday night, police say he is one of possibly more than a dozen people police are trying to identify and question from this surveillance video taken just minutes before the couple was attacked. >> we want to find these people, because we don't want this ever to happen to someone else again. >> reporter: in an interview with cbs-3 the victims say their attackers hurled gay slurs as they were being beaten. >> i doubt strongly that these two men, went out to attack 15 people and what was said during the beat to go me indicates a level of a hate crime. >> reporter: thursday

philadelphia councilman jim kenny sending a letter with raw language to the u.s. attorney calling for a federal investigation under the national hate crimes prevention act. the as it stand, pennsylvania law only attacks motivated by race, religion and ethnicity can be prosecuted as hate crimes. >> i think we ought to cover every base and make sure this did not the happen or if it did happen, that the federal government should take the case. >> reporter: within the hour we spoke with the u.s. attorney who says he received that letter from kenny and they are looking into the the matter at this time. also within the hour we do expect more people of interest to come right here to central detectives and deliver their statement, so, of course, we will have much more at 6:00 o'clock. it is latest now from central detectives i'm steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> steve, thanks. philadelphia city council votes to decriminalized marijuana that vote was 14-two. bill now to mayor michael nutter's desk for his signature. nutter has expressed support

for the bill saying it doesn't legalize marijuana but will mean minor offenses will result in civil penalties instead of an arrest and criminal record. it is slate todd take effect october 20th. student is injured in the school bus accident in north philadelphia, it happened around 7:30 this morning at fourth and cambria. we are told that the bus was on its way to hunter elementary school. one student suffered minor injuries and no one else was hurt, there is no word what cause that had crash. cause of the house fire in north philadelphia is under investigation. chopper three over this scene in the 1300 block of west somerset street. fire fighters arrived there and they found heavy smoke on the third floor of that building, and they do believe that the house was vacant. there is no word as of yet on injuries. our mild weather continues but in the not some distant future we could get those summertime temperatures back. meteorologist kathy orr is live on the sky deck with the first look at the forecast,

kathy. a beautiful afternoon after clouds earlier today. we had a cold front moving through, it doesn't feel so cold right now but it will, by tomorrow. we are looking at changing conditions, on storm scan three you saw the clouds and the sky and here they are on the radar a few scatter sprinkles especially along the eastern shore of maryland and through central and southern delaware associated with this very weak frontal boundary. it has already moved through philadelphia and continue its trek through south jersey. behind the front we are seeing clearing skies. temperatures right now warming up in the sunshine, reading and allentown mid 70's, poconos still chilly at 66 during the afternoon. philadelphia is 72. trenton 74. millville 71. do i expect even the city to warm up a few degrees before the sun does set. average high this time of the year is 77. this evening temperatures will be falling through the 60's with mainly clear skies, 66 by 9:00 p.m., by 11:00 mainly clear and 64. coming up we will talk bit feeling more like october, in

cole, is getting his flu vaccine. >> it is just a spray, up your nose. >> it is less threatening. >> reporter: for the first time cdc is now recommending flu mist nasal spray as a preferred vaccine for healthy kids between the age of two and eight. it is made with live virus that is weaken. >> it induces, therefore, a better response in the upper respiratory tract and data for young children and children in the two to eight year-old group is it is better vaccine. >> most children will not have any reactions but children with the live vaccine can show some signs of a cold for a couple days. >> reporter: nasal spray isn't immediately available health officials say parents should not wait to get their children vaccinated get them the the shot despite warnings of how serious and deadly the flu can be, the cdc find half of americans got vaccinated last year. >> i'm getting my flu vaccination and i recollect men everyone six months and other get their. >> it keeps you safe and other people around you safe.

delaware you are seeing the the clouds, skies will be clearing, as late afternoon progresses. in philadelphia we are seeing full sunshine, this is a view from sky cam three from campbell's field looking across the bridge into philadelphia. a pretty picture. down the shore seeing some sunshine as well but a few clouds hovering, we are looking at of course atlantic city and there, of course, down beach, as we head further towards ocean city and of course down beach where we are also seeing a few folks on the boards this afternoon. on storm scan three you can see clouds mainly through south jersey and delaware. all this pushing to the south, clearing skies building in with some cool, temperatures, it is already a little breezy out there, in philadelphia it is 72. allentown looking good. reading looking good. mid 70's. poconos 66. seventy-two in wilmington. i do think in the city we could warm up a few degrees with that sunshine before sunset. to the west you can see cool úcollege, pittsburgh, upper 60's, cleveland 64. buffalo, new york at

52 degrees this afternoon. high pressure is building in the wake of the front and thinks a sprawling, strong area of high pressure over canada. it is moving in tomorrow morning, and tomorrow morning we are going to see some impressive temperatures. across the area, temperatures right now you can see 50's and some 60's and some 70's in philadelphia but watch out what happens as we advance clock into tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. upstate new york and new england temperatures in the 30's, we're talking about potential frost advisories even buffalo, new york 42. state college 44 degrees, and then in philadelphia waking up to 57. unless you are along the coastal plane, inland, 40's or lower. now after that we will rebound nicely to around 70 in the city, 60's in our suburbs. saturday, we will warm up, again in the upper 70's and as this front gets a little closer it squeezes warmth up the eastern seaboard and we are back in the 80's for sunday, the last day of summer this front will bring a few showers late sunday night and into monday which is first day

couple of days. >> k-9 teams and helicopters are aiding in the search as is the fbi. welshing philadelphia police need your help tracking down a burglar. the suspect was caught on surveillance video in the early morning hours last week in the sky line restaurant on east germantown avenue. that person took off with the cash register, man was last seen heading eastbound on chew avenue with the register and female accomplice. there he goes. if you have any information about who that is, call the police. well, search is also underway in philadelphia for this robbery suspect, police say that the victim, a check cashing store employee, was closing this store in juniata park when approached by the suspect. that person had a handgun, forced worker back inside the building and took off with an undetermined amount of money that was stuffed in the blue backpack. a battery moved from the camden county house has tested positive for rabies. winslow township man found his dog playing with that bat in the house on september 10th.

lets look live down the shore in atlantic city. looks like high tides here as tides come in. it is cloudy throughout many of the shore point this evening. take a look at storm scan three and you can see where our cool front is. clouds as you can see moved through philadelphia and have have now cleared but clouds are hanging around down the shore and we have light showers especially down into portion s of kent and sussex counties in delaware. front came through unnotice except for cloud cover no real then are storm activity long that boundary, behind it though, some of the coolest air of the season, moving in, especially for points, off to our north and west where some freezing warnings and frost advisories have been issued for portions of upstate new york, vermont, new hampshire and maine as well. purple a freeze warning, the blue shading means a freeze watch and, of course, we have that frost advisory near the bangor, maine area heading through next couple of months really we will start seeing these first frost dates not all that untour get first frost in late september in those areas but hard freeze is unusual this early, early
