broad street. that is where "eyewitness news" reporter charlotte huffman is with the the latest details, charlotte. >> reporter: this evening police are still looking foreman responsible, meanwhile this evening a trinity staffing services is the only sign of this morning's attack is a sign on the door telling employees to come back tomorrow. >> i was kind of shocked because as i said over past four years there has been absolutely nothing i have not even heard an argument upstairs. >> reporter: that all change around 9:00 when police say a man walked in the south philadelphia business, demanded worked and staff a five three-year old female employee, three times in the chest, snatched her purse and then ran. bob lutes was outside at the time. >> woman had come out of the staffing agency holding a towel and napkin to her neck and looked down saw blood dripping from her. >> reporter: victim walked across the street to methodist hospital leading a trail of blood stains behind. trinity is an employment staffing agency that places people in jobs, and cuts their

paychecks. charles lions is one of them. >> i'm shock. >> reporter: lions knows victim first hand and said she often hires ex-offenders. >> she gives people a chance, you know what i mean, mainly guys i know of are ex-offenders. so she gives people an opportunity to work and take care of themselves. >> reporter: no official word on any connection between the suspect and victim but lions has his own theory. >> my guess, is i'm not surprised because of other people, mentality of the people that work there. i'm shocked to hear it but at the same time i'm in the surprised. >> reporter: victim is caroline franklin. i talk with franklin's brother this afternoon while he was at the hospital and he said that he thinks that she's got to make it. we are live in south philadelphia i'm charlotte huffman for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you. there are new calls for federal investigation in the attack on a same sex couple in center city.

philadelphia police continue to question persons of interest in this case. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live at central detectives tonight with the very latest, steve. >> reporter: jessica new tonight detectives now telling us that several persons of interest of come in, or at least are contacting their attorneys to deliver their statements, to police. all this happening while as you mention there had is a call from city leaders for a federal investigation. slowly we are beginning to hear from the other side, sources telling cbs-3 that at least six in this group of up to 15 have come forward to tell their version of the story, including the accusation that the couple who said they were savagely attack, slurred and beaten, had a part in instigating a fight. at least one city leader isn't buying it. >> i doubt strongly that these two men went out to attack 15 people. what was said during the beat to go me indicates the level of the hate crime. >> reporter: thursday philadelphia councilman jim kenny sent a letter with raw language to the u.s. attorney

calling for a federal investigation, under the national hate crimes prevention act, as it stands, pennsylvania law says that only attacks motivated by race, religion, ethnicity can be prosecuted as hate crime. >> we ought to cover every base to make sure this did not happen or if it did happen that the federal government should take the case. >> reporter: meanwhile across the river in camden a lgbt workshop for confronting challenges that face same sex couples. >> i think it is a great that pennsylvania does not have a hate crime law. >> reporter: rebecca levin says is there in the enough on the books in pennsylvania to protect gays and lesbians and last week serves as an example. >> now we are an marriage equality state but is there still so much work that needs to be done. >> reporter: police continue to dig for the truth as others call for a larger search party. >> it doesn't take a lot of courage for 12 or 15 people to beat up two. >> reporter: we have placed the call to the u.s. attorney's office tonight. the the person from the office tells us that they have

"eyewitness news" has learned funeral services will be held on saturday for megan doto and child that she was carrying when she was kill. she was eight months pregnant when she was shot in frankford sunday morning. her baby delivered by c-section died a few hours later. a web site set up to help pay for those funeral costs has raised more than $5,000, and just one day. well philadelphia city council to day voted to largely decriminalized marijuana in the city and now all that is needed is the mayor's signature. vote was 14-two today. mayor nutter has previously expressed support for this bill explaining that it doesn't legalize marijuana but just makes minor offenses civil penalties rather than

criminal. it is slate todd take effect on october 20th. city council approved a measure for a ballot referendum asking voters in they wish to abolish the school reform commission. supporters of that measure want philadelphia public schools to be back under local control. the state took over the district in 2001, replacing the board of education. measure now awaits mayor nutter's signature. new jersey governor chris christie says he is quote really growing tired of the legislative committee investigating the george washington lane close another scandal. the governor went on a tirade today claiming that lawmakers on that committee have been leaking information to the press. our new jersey reporter cleve bryan has more. >> reporter: yes. >> time has come to fix the port authority. >> reporter: on the same day senate committee pass aid bill to address the george washington bridge scandal new jersey governor chris christie blasted the investigative committee that has been scrutinizing his appoint ease and staff.

would you let your children do this? it is a frightening scene, children approaching drivers in rush hour traffic. >> it is easy to run them over and that is a bad deal. where are the parents at. >> why is it happening day after day? i'm charlotte huffman with the iteam sounding the alarm asking for trouble tonight after football. well, "eyewitness news" healthwatch tonight an urgent reminder from federal health officials to get a flu shot, right now. last year the flu hospitalized a surprisingly large number of young and middle-aged americans, and only a third had been vaccinated. >> three on your side health reporter stephanie stahl is here with more on the flu clinics that is that time. >> it is that time of the year. federal health officials say there is plenty of vaccines and it is recommended that everyone over the age of six months give a flu shot but it is especially important for the elderly. michael martinez is in his early 60's is getting his very first, flu shot.

>> why did you wait so long. >> i was always afraid. >> reporter: to surprising relief michael said it didn't hurt, he was among a big group of senior citizens in the center in the park in germantown for free flu shots sponsored by national council on aging. >> i'm 65 years of age and i want to stay as healthy as possible. >> reporter: influenza can be dangerous and deadly for elderly. new numbers though 35 percent of seniors still don't get the recommended flu shot every single year. in philadelphia it is worse, only 50 percent of medicare recipients get vaccinated. >> people are afraid of the shot, people think they can get the flu from the shot which they can't. >> reporter: doctor john, with chestnut hill hospital says mess flu-related deaths air monk the elderly, usually those who don't get flu shots. >> we really need to do a better job as a community to get out there and get people vaccinated. >> reporter: there are different types including higher dose flu shot made specifically for people over the age of of 65, it is designed to address age-related decline in the immune system.

sprinkles but that was just about it. in philadelphia 72. twenty-seven wilmington. we have had cloud cover still in the 70's. north and west allentown reading, lancaster in the lower 70's and mount pocono at 65. normal high for this time of the year is 77 degrees. here we go again another day below average. now we are going to have that quick taste of fall, tomorrow, and a sprawling area of high pressure to the north is going to really dominate by tomorrow morning and we are talking about temperatures that we see more as october then mid-september. we will start clock off this evening 60 in philadelphia, boston along the the coastal plane but in land in the 50's and 40's. what will we wake up to tomorrow morning? some of the coldest air we have seen in a long time threw up state new york and new england in the 30's. freezing temperatures. in philadelphia the 50's but then inland we are talking about the 40's. the the winter still or the fall chillies upon us, so, we can see freeze warnings,

watches, frost advisories, all threw up state new york and new england and thinks early even for these locations. adirondacks still quite early to see this type of the chill. good news is, it is not going to last that long but temperatures will rebound, we will be at 70 by tomorrow afternoon. southern locations will be in the 60's including our suburbs and then warming up during the day on saturday in the upper 70's. this front approaches sunday but hold off until nighttime hours last day of summer will feel like it at 80 degrees. behind that front it will be cool as fall begins on monday, officially at 10:29, we will be feeling the effects of fall and it will be cool again. overnight low of 56, during date tomorrow we will warm up to 07 degrees. as we look ahead conditions are going to be comfortable. if you have a ticket to the eagles game kick off temperature 80 degrees on monday, or i should say sunday. on the weekend forecast looking good warming up for last weekend of summer, monday fall begins and we will see
