4:37 am
being in that position, to to have to handle so much, a lot of us has cents to make it, very tough. my position, what dow, i know roger be tough to play running back, make their own cut and get blast the dollars by a 300-pound earls, so the correlation, i'm just saying, being, you know, in somebody's shoes, make the right decision is hard. >> so do you agree with the nfl identification handling of these dom exhibiting abuse cases in connect with "eyewitness news" by facebook or tweet us at cbs philly. well, developing now, pennsylvania state police have reopened roads in monroe county as the manhunt continues for the man who killed a state trooper and wounded another. meantime, the fbi has added eric feirn to ten most wanted fugitive list, offering to up $100,000 reward for information lead to go arrest and conviction in this case, that's addition to the $75,000 reward from crime stoppers. officials believe frein is

4:43 am
scan3, at the moment, pretty much all week, has had just basically been devoid of any storms at least here locally. little front yesterday. high pressure generally been the running theme for us. the beginning of the next system are already visible way out west. we got little time to kill here before that's going to be an issue for us. it will be the next what we call mid hat taught cyclone, classic storm center, warmfront, cold front, those three pieces cents are going to be affecting the northeast with time. now today high pressure on our side. again little wimpy front yesterday, brought couple of clouds, no huge deal, sun is back in its wake. we are actually at best going to get you in the low 70s here today. so little dose of early october actually. now, tomorrow, i think we will start to see this warmfront lift in, bring in more clouds than anything, at least initially, should get enough sunlight to heat up to the upper 70s, sit in the warm sector of the system for the better part of the day, will be cold front that eventually crosses, as early as sunday night, may have shower,
4:44 am
thunderstorm to dodge across our area, no severe weather threats. plenty of sun meantime today going for 71, see how we do, most of the day will likely stay into the 60s, in fact that's where we sit at the moment here at cbs-3. little observation for you, getting current reading for us, meanwhile partly cloudy skies, tonight we stay cool, tranquil, continues to be almost like broken record forecast for us, but things do change with time. the clouds start to roll in tomorrow. the potential for shower or storm roams in sunday night, leading into monday, we officially kick off fall season monday other than morning showers things start to clear out for another nice week, ukee, back over to you. >> katie, thank you. eagles play their first division game in sunday when washington comes to lincoln financial field. now, the main story line is the return of desean jackson, our sports director beasley reese sat down for exclusive one-on-one interviews with mccoy, shady's best friends. >> desean jackson is a very talented person. the family type of person.

4:48 am
>> the fire commissioner giving us update right now on the kensington fire. the fire is under control at the time. we have l & i, peco, working with us, to do the investigation, to determine an origin and cause. >> can you explain the difficulties in fighting the fire. >> when you have a building this size, requires large amounts of water, which is the reason why the second alarm was struck out immediately, then because of the size and dimensions of the building and
4:49 am
how the fire was cents spreading to the exposure, we were trying to make sure we could protect that exposure. once the building collapsed, it would be foyer for the firefighters get into the exposure. because of paper storage, that's a lot of fuel. that creates another challenge. but once we are able to get enough resources on scene, the members did great job of containing the fire, and putting out. >> complete exterior attack, firefighters give in? >> complete exterior attack. because of the size and dimensions, no need to put anyone in harm way. we do a risk assessment on every fire where we determine if there is no life hazard, and we can't save the property, we do defensive attack. >> how many firefighters were out here battling this? >> myfoxphilly.com bridge 120 plus firefighters. thirty-three pieces of equipment, and 120 plus firefighters. >> did the fire spread from that building while you guys were here or was cents that when you arrived had it already spread?
4:50 am
>> well, that's hard to tell. because the bulk of the fire was in the vacant building. like i said, once the vacant building collapsed, that gave the fire exposure to the adjacent building or the exposure building. and that made it easier with the winds conditions, and the fuel load, for the fire to spread into the business. >> sir, you and your guys have been at kensington vacant warehouse fire so many times, even though they are empty, not being used, you know, potentially could kill people. >> that's right. that's one of the reasons why we don't put people in vacant buildings. when you have an odor -- older building and heavy fire load, then you have greater chance of collapse. and once you have that collapse, anything could happen. so one of the things we did do is establish a collapse zone early, in the fire, make sure everyone is out, and once we get exterior attack. >> because that's a big area, the vacant building, how big was cents that compared to the paper company? in a pretty much split evenly?
4:51 am
>> the paper company appeared to be larger than the actual fire dwelling. fire dwelling approximately 06 by 120, the paper company looks like it is twice that size. little larger. >> big thing about this was the smoke. was cents a lot of the smoke coming from the paper company? is that why we had so much smoke? >> initially the smoke come from the paper company and the fire dwelling. when you have that large amount of fire, it creates large amount of smoke, heat smoke. >> the paper company destroyed or did you guys save that thing? >> we don't believe it is saved. when you have that large amount of fuel load, chances are we didn't save the paper company. >> we are looking right here, what's the -- can we see the paper company from here? >> no. the paper company is on the north side of the building, which we call the delta exposure. so when you look at a fire grounds, we break it down into divisions. the front of the building would be alpha division, the left of the building or south side in this instance is going to be your bravo, rear, north
4:52 am
side is the delta. >> so just to clarify, what we are looking at right now would be the vacant building. >> that's correct. >> and paper company would be on the other side that far? >> that's correct. >> and the vacant building would you call that aware house or would you call that -- >> well, i don't know if it was a warehouse or not, but large commercial building. >> how many stories? >> the paper company, i believe, two stories, two stories, approximately, 120 by 100. >> fire was actually under control within an hour and ten, 20 minutes, approximately hour and 20 minutes. >> and that building right there, is that an office supply company? was -- were there other damage to other building? >> the building on the corner is a furniture company, i believe it is five stories in height, and we put members inside to make sure that fire hazard expose today that building. we did experience some
4:53 am
embers -- embers on the roof because of the heat, there was an antenna on the roof, also, may have been damanged, but minor damage to the furniture company on the corner. >> so three buildings here in close proximity? >> right. so you have two with major damage, and corner building has some minor damage. >> thank you t sorry, the injury, 45 year old man? you have no idea? >> you have been listening to the philadelphia fire commissioner updating us on huge warehouse fire or commercial building fire in kensington, started about 2:30 this morning, as you heard, under control in about an hour, hour and 20 minutes or so. our jan carabeo is out, there as well, gathering more information from that scene. >> one person taken to the hospital there, we're told, with severe burns to his body. 80% of his body. no other injuries that have
4:54 am
4:56 am
>> and one final check on your weather here today. things generally looking very, very quiet for us yet again. the quiet pattern just keeps ongoing with storm scan3, remaining empty at this point. you can see, few little speckles of green off across central, southern delaware, generally you don't have to worry about anything as far as wet weather, showing signs of retreat of cool front that came through yesterday. so the temperatures have been reinforced here, little dose of october coming our way, we take live look at just choice few locations cents here, temperatures are generally speaking into the 50's this morning. as we move forward, the high hits no better than the low 70s in philadelphia, it will probably stay only into the 60s around some of the outlying suburbs, so you need the extra layers today. nice weekend warm up is on the
4:59 am
we're following upn breaking news right now, an inferno in kensington, intense flames, thick smoke, fill the sky as is this warehouse goes up in flames overnight, hurting three people, include rag couple of firefighters. the warehouse fire quickly grew to four alarms, firefighters have it under control at this hour. but still putting out the flames. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo just got update from the fire commissioner. she is live on scene at american and york streets, in kensington. jan? >> reporter: that the tasha, ukee, that's right, we just got update from the fire commissioner here, and he's updated the number of injuries as you mention, three injuries as a result of this fire, two were firefighters, with minor injuries, and one was civilian taken to temple university hospital with critic call injuries, 25 year old plan with burns to over 80% of his body. take a look, live now, at the

scene, at the corner of american and york streets, here in kensington. you can see that the fire is now under control. but firefighters remain on the scene here, we're told this fire started around 2:30 this morning, and boy, was cents it a site. take a look at the video, see the flames shooting into the air. we're told that this fire started at 2:30, in a vacant commercial type building. and then, it spread, to neighboring business, which is a paper storage company, so you can imagine, they had a heavy fire load in these buildings, and that's why it went up so fast. now, obviously, the vacant building has been completely destroyed, we're told there is heavy damage to the paper storage company, as is well. there is also another business on the corner hereof american. it is a furniture business. we're told it has some minor exterior damage. firefighters really worked hard to save that building. there is more than 120 firefighters on scene, 30 apparatus here, it has been a huge effort to get this
