♪ >> breaking news right now at 11:00 o'clock. i'm jessica dean. >> i'm chris may. just over an hour ago, the pentagon nounsed that u.s. air strikes were underway inside syria. targeting the militant group isis. the us has delivered nearly 200 strikes against isis targets in iraq after that group executed two american journalists but tonight mark the first moves against isis in syria. it's the first time the us has

targeted that country militarily since 1983. the decision to launch these strikes was made by central command but it was ultimately authorized by president obama. we are keeping a close eye on what's happening tonight. we'll bring you breaking details during this newscast and of course when you wake up on "eyewitness news" this morning. you can also fine the latest any time on cbsphilly.com. >> now to the shooting that left an innocent teenager dead and another fighting for his life. >> a fight in a subway led to gunshots in the streets near einstein medical center in the city's olney section. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter has been there since it happened. he joins us now with the search for the shooter. walt? >> reporter: well, chris, suddenly at 4:00 o'clock this afternoon, bullets began flying outside the einstein medical center here in olney. and in just a moment a 15 year old was wounded and she laid dying on the front lawn of this incredible healing institution. a 19 year old nearby also shot

and critically wounded. police say the gunman apparently was a teenager and the bullets flying in retaliation for a fight apparently in the last few days in which a young girl had been beaten up. sirens screaming, police cars race to the scene, just outside the einstein medical center where two teenagers were shot just after 4:00 in the afterno afternoon. >> all the shots was just all at once. it was just all at once. all you seen was kids ducking. report roar police say crowd of more than 50 teenagers fighting among themselves had just left the nearby olney transit center when one pulled a gun from a student's backpack and opened fire. >> just a tragic day. it's like most of violence that occurs here in the philadelphia just totally senseless. >> reporter: an and in victim a 1584 old student walking home from the nearby delaware valley charter high school was shot once in the back. dying moments later.

a 19 year old shot twice is now in critical condition. >> young kids today, they get weapons from everywhere. it's just ridiculous. just sad. >> reporter: from evidence gathered at the scene, investigators believe the initial fight and the gunshots that killed the 15 year old student were in response to a recent fight in which another young woman had been punched. >> it's sad. some mother has to deal with the fact that her 15 year old is gone now. that's hurtful. it's hurtful and every person, every parent, should be able to feel that in their hearts. >> reporter: and the police commissioner told me that he hopes surveillance cameras of which there are many here at the medical center and at septa's transportation send nearby could provide very important evidence as the search the manhunt for the killer continues this evening. live in olney, i'm walt hunter cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

>> walt, thank you very much. >> now to exclusive eyewitness cam video of on-going barricade situation in a west deptford neighbor. this all started around 1:00 o'clock this afternoon. when police tried to serve a warrant on 24 year old william chic kell. swat officers moved in after police heard a gunshot. police have not been able to make contact with him but tear gas canisters were fired into that house. again this story is still developing to night. well have the late defendant for you online and on "eyewitness news" this morning. well new at 11:00 o'clock tonight police in haddonfield searching for suspect in the attempted abduction avenue teenaged girl. the suspect tried to abduct that girl 10:30 last thursday on tanner street. she was walking home from work at the time. now according to the girl the suspect drove up, got out of his car and grabbed her. she managed to fight him off, though, and then run away. the suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s with

shaggy blond hair he may now have scratches on his face and neck. >> a tense manhunt tonight in the poconos. heavily armed police searching everywhere trying to track down the man wanted in deadly ambush of two pennsylvania state troopers. diane in rocco has the story from monroe county. >> reporter: investigators say within every passing hour they are closing in on eric frein's whereabouts. they've been watching hot spot areas throughout northern monroe county and tonight investigators say it is only a matter of time. stream of police cars drive through one of the many barricades set up in northern monroe county as the search for eric frein intensifies. >> we have had some reports of sightings, and we are following up on each of those. >> reporter: suspected cop killer may be hiding in the densely wooded forest near the pike county border where a day ago searchers found an automatic weapon, and 2ak47 magazine clips. human trackers and skilled police officers have been combing the miles of terrain

what investigators say is frein's backyard. the 31 your old is described as a survivalist and skilled marksman who is gunning for law enforcement. >> the shooter's family lives a mile and a half from my house. >> the shelter in place were you lifted but school was canceled for the sixth day in a row. many still aren't leaving the house for fear of roadblock will keep them from getting home. >> i'm a little scared that they're not going to find him. my daughter is going to be out of school for like two week. >> people are wondering what's going on. had they going to find this guy he could possibly be in a boat right now going down the delaware. nobody really nose. >> reporter: more than week ago, frein ambushed two state troopers at the blooming grove barracks killing corporal brian dixon and wounding another trooper. investigators say he is heavily armed and may have been planning this for months or years. >> until we apprehend this individual, please, continue to use common sense this is a very dangerous situation. >> reporter: pennsylvania state police are using high-tech equipment to track frein

throughout the overnight hours. they no longer believe he's targeting civilians but they're asking everybody in the area to remain vigilant and keep cars and homes lock. in monroe county, i'm diana rocco cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> officials say the man who made it all the way inside the white house is war veteran with troubled past. 42 year old omar gonzalez app pedestrian in federal court today. investigators say he had a knife on him when he hospital hopped the fence and sprinted toward the white house and inside the north port company. police say they found two hatchets a machete and 800 rounds of ammunition inside his car. earlier this summer, gonzalez was arrested after police in virginia found weapons and a circled map of washington. despite criticism the president support for the secret service is unwaiverring. >> secret service did a great job. i'm grateful for all the sacrifices they make on my behalf and on my family's behalf.

>> less than 24 hour after that first breach kevin car unarmed teenager from shamong, new jersey, was arrested for trying to get past a barricade barricay to the white house. >> students on alert at the university of delaware. there have been two armed robberies there in just the past two days. todd quinones shows us how that is sitting with students. >> reporter: three students all robbed of their cell fence boy a man armed with a gun it's a scary scenario for students we talked to here. >> we found self students walking and talking on their cell phones right at the same spots where the robberies occurred even after the university of delaware sent out e-mails to students warning them sophomore victoria long was home when she received the alerts. >> a little nerve wrack and my parents were there when i received the alert so my dad were you a little nervous about sending me back. >> reporter: both armed robberies happen just off campus gunman approached two students from behind on south college avenue near winslow road 7:30 saturday night. he showed them a gunnersed the

students to happened over their cell phones and then took off. then on sunday at 2:30 in the afternoon near main street a third student was also robbed in similar fashion. students are also worried. >> somebody is robbing people at gun point. i'm like, okay, wow. like what am i supposed to do now. roar report check of the numbers are the most reason statistics available between 2020 and 2012 there were 10 robberies on campus and five rob pros off campus. students say the university regularly alerts them to crimes. >> we get the ud alert which is are great but we never hear follow up f they caught anybody or had any suspects or anything like that. >> reporter: descriptions for both of the suspects are very similar. they're being described as a black mail with large or muscular build about 5-foot 9-inches tall and between 25 and their years old. one suspect is described as having a goatee. the other a full beard. at this point it's not clear if the same suspect might be

responsible for all of the robberies. reporting in newark, delaware, todd quinones cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> there is new information tonight in the attack on a gay couple in center city. philadelphia police have now finished their investigation and turn the case over to the da's office for possible charges. last week police released video of about a dozen people that included persons of interest in the attack. we're told police did interview several members of that group. >> tonight investigators are taking a hard look at a deadly tour bus crash in delaware. trying to figure out what caused it to flip over an embankment. that crash killed two people and injured 48 others on route 1 near red lion road in new castle yesterday. the bus was full of sightseers returning to new york city after a trip to washington, d.c. >> cut up, ms.ing bits and pieces of arms and face. there was no on the scene without blood.

it's zofran tick. >> the driver 56 year old gene, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. he is being questioned but they have rule out drugs and alcohol as playing a role in the crash. >> the school district of philadelphia is now a step closer to what officials say is much needed new funding. late this afternoon the state house approved a much debated cigarette tax by a vote of 114 114-84. it would generate $80 million in new revenues for philadelphia schools. the senate still needs to vote but that could happen as soon as tomorrow. if it's approved, the $2 per pack tax hike could hit governor corbett's desk by the end of of the week. >> well the first debate between pennsylvania republican governor tom corbett and democratic businessman tom wolf was a spirited one tonight. the two sparred over taxes, the state's finances and public school spending before a packed room in hershey. wolf said the governor failed to keep the economy on track to the detriment of public schools but the governor shot back saying

be keeping an eye on and developing coastal system. first let's talk about today. our live neighbor takes us around the region. not a huge range in temperature today. in philadelphia at girard college 73. millville at the airport 72. lewes delaware at the university of delaware, 72. and linvilla orchards in media, 70 degrees. we have cooled down with clear skies and light winds in most locations. poconos 46. allentown 51. still 60 in philadelphia. 58 in millville. 52 in reading. 53 in atlantic city. most of these winds out of the north northwest at about five to 10 miles an hour. except for dover, also wildwood in philadelphia. the wind will continue to diminish as high pressure builds in and overnight overnight and during the day tomorrow. nice sun 93 day for the first full day of fall. and then we'll watch this area of low pressure developing in the southeast. it's going to move up the eastern see bore that we know
