breaking news this morning, a fast moving fire sends two people to the hospital overnight. we're live on the keen with more on how they were rescued. just tearing me up. i'm almost at a lost for words. >> a grieving father searching for answers cents after his daughters struck and killed by a septa bus. and developing this morning, a shooting in ferguson, missouri leaves a police officer wounded. today is sunday, september 28th, good morning, everyone, i'm todd quinones, we're in store for another great day. here is meteorologist, carol erickson. >> todd, wasn't it lovely yesterday? >> it was great. >> just unbelievable weather, and i think we get a chance to do it again today. we have 55 degrees, dark out there this morning, what a surprise. you can see that in reading,

with basically no wind. occasionally you may run into a patch of fog or two, especially in many soft more rural areas, but that will burn off very, very quickly this morning. storm scan3, a few clouds, mean no harm, will be moving on, looking at day of sunshine today, temperatures today little milder than they were yesterday morning at this point. 16 degrees in philadelphia, everybody else, in the 50's, now, except for the poconos, at 49 degrees this morning. we have a day that shapes up, just about perfect, 69 degrees, 9:00 a.m. by noon, 79 degrees, we just add another 10 degrees to that. and then we hit 84 degrees, this afternoon, we have zero weather problems coming up for us, and i mean, zero, so let me give you another look at the temperature, 84 degrees for the afternoon high temperature. this i just stop, because there might be one or two clouds, that's it. that's it all day. and we run this all the way out through tomorrow morning

when a few more clouds may be coming into the picture, but still, things are being look pretty good. not really going to be dealing with much in the way of humidity either. we've got dew points that continue to be low. we've got skies that continue to be bright, winds, light, just an ideal day. ill spell all of it out for you when i come back. we'll take a look at the seven day forecast, and what happens mid week, todd? >> carol, thank you. we begin this morning with breaking news, a fire rips through a mt. airy apartment building, send too long people to the hospital. the fire officials on the scene say they smelled gasoline, and the fire is being called suspicious. syma chowdhry picks up the story live from the scene, same, a good morning. >> reporter: good morning, todd, residents of the apartment building behind me woke up to some scary moments, earlier this morning, not one but two fires were set on the 7400 block of stenton avenue. >> this happened around 2:30 this morning, at the chestnut terrace apartments. one fire was started in a hallway on the first floor,

the other, also, in a hallway, but on the third floor. officials say gasoline was used beaming this incident suspicious. one person has been taken into custody for questions, and this is what fire officials had to say. >> two small fires, one on the first floor and one on the third floor. right now the police are questioning a suspect. >> two people were also taken to the hospital. one for second agree burns, the other for smoke inhalation. the residents had to be evacuated. right now the red cross cents is assisting. that's the very lateness mt. airy. syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". syma, thank you. septa bus crash is under investigation this morning, on friday, a woman was crossing the street with her son in south philadelphia, when she was struck and killed. her son survived the crash. her, so -- >> reporter: ronald dejesus says telling his eight year old grandson that his mother couldn't be saved as she was struck by a septa bus was one of the hardest thinks he is' her to do. he visited the spore where his daughter sheena white was struck to pay his respects and to be with his grandson who was walking with her when she was run over and killed. >> to lose a child, you know, it is like, you know, you don't want to see your child leave this earth before you, i mean, and you want it the other way around. it is just terrible. >> police say the 29 year old mother was crossing washington avenue with her son by her side when she was hit. when officers arrived they say found the little boy had fallen to the grounds but was trying to save his mother. >> he was trying to render aid to his mother, and he was sitting there with his mother when they got her. >> dejesus said his grandson is still in the hospital recovering from bumps, bruises, and possible concussion sustained from the incident. he's also learning to adjust

to living without any parents. >> all we can do is hold him and tell him, you know, it is going to be okay. >> as the port to comes in from the community, they wonder how such a tragedy could have possibly happened. >> i'm definitely going to have a lot of questions. i know that they're doing their investigation. she had my grandson with her, so i know that she was using precaution. >> reporter: police say they're reviewed video recording on the bus as part of their investigation. we're in south philadelphia, noel mcclaren, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". a little girl is fighting for her life after being attacked by a pitbull inside her own home. it happened on add lean drive in newark, delaware, saturday. the girl's 15 year old sister fought off the dog and called 911. responds being officers say the animal was so aggressive they had to shoot it. a neighbor describes the chaotic scene. >> i see blood all over, and

the bigger sister, blood. >> i didn't know they had a pitbull. i know a german shepherd. >> the victim is list in the critical condition at children's hospital of philadelphia. neighbors tell us, she is the daughter of a newark city councilman. the search is on for an armed robbery suspect caught on tape in moorestown, burlington county. take a look at the surveillance pictures. gas being gunman walked into 7-eleven at lenola and cannon, threatened the clerk before taking money and cigarettes, if you recognize the suspect you are being asked to contact police right away. and developing right now, a police officer is shot in ferguson, missouri. the search is underway for the suspect, the city has been the scene of racial unrest and the wake of the august shooting dealt of unarmed black teenager by a white police

officer. authorities say the officer was on patrol last night when he encountered two men who ran from him. the officer gave chase. >> as he came into very close proximity with them, one of the individuals turned with firearm, the officer was able to block it with his arm, and then was shot in the arm by one of the suspects. >> the police officer is expected to be okay. last night shooting does not appear to be have anything to do with the shooting death of michael brown. he was killed by officer darren wilson on august 9th. in the meantime, a county grand jury is weighing whether to indict the officer in brown's shooting. in northeastern pennsylvania, the search goes on for eric frein, accused of ambushing two state troopers earlier this month killing one of them. as vladmeere reports, investigators say they've collected more evidence on frein from his own computer. >> troopers spent saturday as they have for the past 15 days

searching the dense pennsylvania back country for eric frein. they haven't found him but they're not giving up. police also recovered data from compute their convinced them frein planned his attack for at least a couple of years. the search of this computer hard drive indicates extensive internet research on topics such as thousand avoid policeman hunts, use of various law enforcement technology, and skills related to survival. >> officials say frein may be taunting the police by leaving behind various items like soiled diapers, serbian cigarettes, making himself visible before going back in the wilderness. frein jumped out of his speeding spot but still manage today escape. >> was cents it not possible cents to get a helicopter in the air to follow him? >> we had a helicopter in the air. it was dark. and our assets couldn't lock on and we simply could not locate him. >> police also believe frein may be in a elevated position, armed with a sniper rifle, and could have laid booby traps

we have 49 degrees up in the poconos and 61 the warmest spot, that's out at the airport in philadelphia. few little clouds, they're nothing, and they don't have any precipitation associated with them. we will be dry today, and beautiful. the dew points will probably lower, as we go, little high this morning, and they'll go down into the lower 50's, later today, and that's in the unbelievably comfortable range every dew points around here. high pressure in charge of our weather, temperatures get to the 80s once again today, this back-door front will be coming down, that's probably coming down, say, later on tuesday, and wednesday, temperatures will be cooling little bit even tomorrow probably be in the upper 70s, and then, by the time we get to tuesday, we will be in the 70s, as well. where does this go? remember, we were talking about that yesterday, and was it going to come in, the uncertainty huge? uncertainty still pretty good. let's keep it off shore for now, maybe showers, associated with the front, that would be that tuesday-wednesday possibly time period.

future weather, let's time this out. and as we go through today, really, no reason to stop at 3:00. i just did because that is probably a good time of the afternoon that you will be out. and then we tart to see few more clouds come in here tomorrow morning, this is a look at 9:00 in the morning, but they want to clear them out, and if you watched yesterday, and you were taking notes, as i had requested, you would remember that we had the rain a showers that were showing up around here, early on tuesday morning, notice, how that has all changed. so now, by the time we get to tuesday afternoon, more likely that back door cold front that could be bridging us some showers. but still, we have to watch whatever is out in the ocean to see where it goes, because, if it comes closer, that changes things. otherwise, by wednesday morning, looking at some showers, north and west, today, ideal, 84 in philadelphia, 78 at the shore, poconos, 78 gross. september is running warmer than normal. and we're going to keep these warmer temperatures. so why am i bothering you with the first frost date? well, partly because whenever we get that first frost, or

outside. thanks fully. carol joins us now again for a look at wetter. >> 84 degrees yesterday, so nice, yes, you would think it was unreal until you found out that we're going to find that same temperature today. so i think we start to get into that kind of summer reality for our first fall weekend. looks beautiful in center city this morning, look at that sunrise to be, just beautiful, the sun comes up in about 20 minutes or so. and at the shore, you can see, it starting to brighten up there. we have just beautiful day, beach day, it is an anything day outside. our temperatures are comfortable, as well, and here's another gorgeous shot, this is down in cape may, in the middle township high school, 6 degrees, winds, very, very light. and that's one of the very nice things about this weather. we are finding low humidity, light winds, lots of sunshine, warm temperatures, perfect, how is it outside right now, though? well, let's take a look and see, as we take a look at our storm scan3. and you notice, that we do have just clear skies, no

rain, maybe one or two clouds, might be well off to the west. they will be doing nothing except maybe making the sky look little more interesting. 61 degrees is the temperature in philadelphia right now. 55 degrees in trenton, 57 degrees wilmington, it is 49 in the poconos, but this is a very comfortable morning, almost like the dessert around here, we got to 84 degrees, top to the 50's, at night tell marked difference but both sides of the day so comfortable. 79 degrees, by noon, by 3:00 p.m., 84 degrees, we have zero weather problems, coming up for us today, and just to further underscore that, we will take a look at this computer model that says by noon, nothing, except fun, and by the time we get to tomorrow, we've got few more clouds coming in, but it doesn't look like a big deal at all. looks like another comfortable day coming up with a little more in the way of cloudiness tomorrow. talk about what comes or does not show up here mid-week. and that's coming one my eyewitness weather seven day forecast. >> update on breaking news in

and his grandson injured in philadelphia's mt. airy neighborhood. authorities say they were inside a red car when a green suv collided into their vehicle at gorgeous and ardsly friday night. the driver and the passenger of the suv ran away from the scene. police caught them short time later. investigators are now determining whether or not they were driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. a shooting in strawberry mansion has police searching for kill they are morning. the 38 year old victim was shot four times, including once in the head. he was returned from the 2900 block of west oakdale street to temple university hospital where he later died. police haven't said what may have sparked this shooting. and residents and community groups are marching this weekend to call for an end to gun violence in philadelphia. the hands-across philadelphia event was held in west philadelphia. dozens marched 3 miles along 52nd street from woodland avenue to parkside avenue.

organizers say it is important to educate young people, and keeps them skilled that stops violence before it starts. >> it is too much death, way too much death. and we need to do something to get people to understand that there is way too much death. and we have to do something to get people to stand up against it, stand up against the shooting and the killing. >> reporter: the naacp was among the groups that organized that event. it is the second day of the annual bike ms city to shore ride. the race raises money for multiple sclerosis research and programs. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells us, it is a cause near and dear to the hearts of participants. three, two, let's ride! >> 7,000 cyclists, $6 million, one goal, ride to rid multiple sclerosis.

back flu on "eyewitness news", with more on college tragedy in oklahoma four softball players are dead after their school charter bus was hit by a semi truck. it happened near oklahoma city friday night. the 15 players and their coach were heading back to north central texas college, after away softball game, investigators say, a semi crossed the median, crashed into the bus, good samaritans tried to save the students on board. when i got into the bus, she had a pulse for about two, three minutes, and we were trying to jack the bus up so
