>> looking live at storm scan3, a soggy start to your saturday, as you can see from our roof camera, rain has moved in. the good news is the weekend won't be complete wash out. but today is saturday, october 11, good morning, i'm todd quinones, meteorologist, carol erickson live on the cbs-3 skydeck with eyewitness weather. carol? >> good morning to you, todd. notice, i have an umbrella at the ready. it is right here. but i don't really need it that much at this point. so the precipitation we're seeing is pretty light, at least coming down here on skydeck. let's take a look, see what we have out there this morning. cool temperatures, certainly, we have readings of 50 degrees, in pennington, 53 dover, broomall, 49 degrees, bethlehem, 48 degrees, so it is a cool start, and as todd

mentioned, it is also cents a rainy one. see the rain coming over the area, and more to come. but it should be moving out by this afternoon. so we will hold it to that. fifty-three in philadelphia, right now, 51 in trenton, 54 degrees in wilmington, and as we look at the day and how it shapes up, it doesn't get very warm around here. our temperatures this afternoon about 60 degrees, now, again, we should be getting rid of the bulk of this precipitation by 1:00, 2:00 at the latest, let's take a look at this computer model that says by 7:00 some areas specially maybe south of philadelphia, picking up some of the heavier rain, 9:00 we still have it, there are plenty of events going on today, don't let this stop you, because this rain is moving out. this is a look at 11:00. notice in the poconos, starting to clear out, by 3:00 p.m., maybe lingering shower at the shore, otherwise, this gets out of here, and hey, wouldn't you know by 11:00 tonight probably looking at some clear skies, and we'll just hang onto those for good portion of the day tomorrow. so your weekend, while not great to start today does get

a lot better later on and gets a lot better tomorrow, as well. we will talk more about all of it, when i come back. todd? >> carol, thank up, now to story you'll see only on "eyewitness news", savage attack caught on camera. diana rocco shows us surveillance video capturing a video from fairmount. >> the eyewitness video chilling, a 24 year old man is attack from behind and left unconscious lying in an intersection after he confronts a group of kids on bikes. >> by the time i got to him, yes, it was cents about maybe 30 seconds later, regained consciousness, but very disoriented, serious concussion, pretty large injury on his face. >> i didn't think it would get to the point with all of the cars around that there actually would be an altercation in the street. >> couple who asked not to be identified watching from their apartment window was able to rush to the man's aid while calling police and shooting this cell phone video. it happened thursday, around

9:00 p.m. at 19th and fairmount, police say group of ten to 15 minors on bikes riding through the streets hitting cars with sticks, when the victim asked them to stop. >> it was really -- people getting upset, we got concerned someone would get hurt. >> second happened this happened, one throws water bottle at the victim, another punches him from behind leaving the man lying unconscious and bleeding in the intersection. >> he went down pretty quickly, and he didn't move after that, i was really concerned. i stayed with him about putting pressure on his face. >> same group confront add couple lombard street while stopped at intersection and tried to pull the woman passenger from the car. short time later police arrested a 16 year old and two, 12 year olds, from the oxford neighborhood, but believe more are involved. >> there is an aggressive nature to it that seems planned, and that's specially disturbing. >> the victim was taken to hahnemann hospital with a fractured jaw. that had to be wired shut.

the three juveniles who were arrested were charged with aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy, as police continue to review the surveillance video, it is possible more arrests may follow. outside central detectives, diana rocco, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". prosecutors north jersey file charges against seven students at say err ville high school. six of the students in custody this morning it, all stems from allegations cents of hazing on a school's football team. middlesex county prosecutor filed aggravated sexual assaults, and criminal restraint charges against three of the students. the other four facing aggravated criminal sexual content -- contact charges. you may recall the football season was cancelled when hazing allegations came to light earlier this week. emotional father talked about the sudden loss of his young son from enterovirus d68. four year oley lie waller the first child to die from the respiratory virus that's been sweeping the nation. his father said eli, student

at yardville elementary in hamilton township, mercer county, went to bed and the next day he was gone. >> he is like the little puppy dog who just looks, you know, looks at you and wants to make you happy. i kissed him on the forehead, gave him a hug, gave him his knight, i said, you know, eli, let's have a great day tomorrow. and he just said ill, daddy, ill. you have to make a choice. and that choice is are you going to just sit and languish and be sad for the rest of your life, or are you going to make something good happen. >> eli's father announced creation of a foundation called the first day of school. its mission is to help kids with special needs like eli. a dallas hospital is making procedural changes after the death after ebola patient. thomas duncan the first person to die from the disease in the u.s. newly-released medical records

show his temperature was 103 degrees when the hospital sent him home. meanwhile, ebola joke that sparked a scare on flight from philadelphia to the dominican republic shows airline taking ebola seriously, crews, hazmat crews, boarded and removed the passenger who told the joke. joe mccann was on the flight, and spoke exclusively "eyewitness news". >> certain things you can't say, not something you can joe about these days, you can't make a joke like that. you know, over 200 people on that flight. and he almost ruined vacation or where ever other reasons were down here for what he thought was as stupid joke. >> dominican health officials say the passenger doses not have ebola, and has never been to an area that's been affected with ' bowl a5 airports will begin enhancing ebola screenings from travelers arriving from west africa this weekend. coming up in the next half hour, local church is work to go sends aid to ebola victims in liberia. our steve patterson will have

live report on how you can help them. and, developing right now, k-mart says an undisclosed number of credit card numbers were stolen during a month-long data breach of its payment system. k-mart does not believe any names or social security numbers were obtained by the hackers. the data, lateness string of beaches at big retailers, including target, michael's, and home depo. and, former mob boss, joey merlino, returns to federal court in philadelphia. fix time dui offenders found themselves locked out of their cars as they start their engines. matt rivers tells us lawmakers want to put the brakes on those who drive under the influence. >> fifty to none. that was the vote for tough new dui bill that passed the pennsylvania state senate this week. the bill would require first time dui offenders with a blood alcohol content of .1 or higher, to install before these, an ignition under lock device. offenders must blow into it every time they want to drive. attached to the car's electrical system it, will start the engine only if there is cents no alcohol detected on the drivers breath. if passed the law would have impact right away. >> back in 2012, under then law, 580,056 interlock ignition devices cents were installed, that led to about 14 million tests before drivers ever took to the roads.

but, if this new bill was in place back then, that would have led to an additional 11,079 interlock ignition device that is could have been installed, as well. >> i think it can save many, many lives. >> the dui coordinator in lower bucks county, where she evaluates dui offenders every day. but more than just a job, for her, it is painfully personal. >> my daughter was killed 19 years ago in a drunk driving crash. >> twenty-two year old alice was in the back seat after car that was crashed by a man who was both drunk and high. >> no matter how much time, you're never prepared to lose your child. >> so no surprise then that she support the new law, but says statistics back her up. according to the center for disease control, repeat dui offenses cents drop about two thirds after interlock device is installed. >> anybody can make a bad choice. the key is to learn from that. >> if this is to become law, though, the bill still has cents to pass the house. but only three voting days left this session f lawmakers don't pass it is by then, the process starts all over again

next year. >> matt rivers, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> police in bucks county nab some thieves who they say stole from rite aid. falls township police got tip call early thursday morning, from someone who said they saw a pick-up truck behind a rite aid tractor-trailer at warehouse, and that items were being off loaded on to the pick up. now, police have charged three people including the drivers of that tractor-trailer, who police say stole the rite aid merchandise to two other suspects. >> we're still trying to figure out how rite aid didn't pick up thon right away. suspecting took small pieces cents of shipment to the different stores so won't notice it as quickly, but we're unsure how he did it. >> the police say the scam appears to have been going on for some time, and that as much as $50,000 worth of merchandise may have been stolen. we are off to bit after

chilly, cold, wet start this saturday morning, carol? we'll get to weather in just a moment. there you are. >> i'm right here, yes. when you said a chilly, colds, start to the day, i can tell from first-hand experience, yes, it is. we are looking at some very light rain. it is light enough that i'm not going to throw the umbrella that's very close by over my head at this point. i'll say that, in case this rain gets little heavier. let's take a look, see if it is going to, we look at temperatures are chill think morning, though, specially with the rain. otherwise, it wouldn't be all that bad. fifty-three in philadelphia, 51 in trenton, 54 degrees in wilmington, 44 up in the poconos, and 61 down in wildwood. storm scan3, notice the rain, you notice the direction it is coming from, and you notice that it would like to eventually leave. and think i may be that eventually will be a little bit later on this afternoon, we expect to find most of this rain getting out of here. now, let's just call it a half and half weekend. the first half not as good as

the second half will be, probably the first half of today is not going to be as good as the second half, it will be. so on sunday, we look for sunshine to come back after our front stalls out, and then moves back, and gets out of here, and then we will be watching on monday, starts to come back, a little bit after warmfront, that boosts our temperatures to the 70s, very low 70s, here's what you really are interested in, though, our future weather, let's look it, this is look at one computer model's thoughts about what is happening with this system as we move through this morning. notice it does want to bring couple of areas of heavier rain indicated by yellow down through millville, 7:00 just about everybody at least in the chances of picking up these rain showers, by 9:00, we're still in the rain, in a lot of locations, by noon, though, it does start to thin out, as you can see, according to this model, and notice well off to the west, this clearing sky starts to come in here. by 3:00 p.m., many areas have dried out. we still have some clouds, maybe a shower still lingering in a couple of spots, but the trend is right.

and it moves this thing completely out of here, and leaves because really nice day on sunday, sunday, starts with sunshine, probably ends with sunshine, as well. so, let's move through this saturday time period. and then we get into the sunday time period. and you can see, that we've got nice looking day coming up. future rain and the, this is the computer model that says we could be picking up say a third of an inch of rain. quarter to third of an inch of rain over much of the area by the time weep hit 1:00 o'clock this afternoon. tropical storm, it is still tropical storm season. we do have one out there. it is fay. you can see, right now, about 60-mile per hour winds on this, and it will be impacting at least going to the east of bermuda, a they do have tropical storm warning in effect, as they go through tomorrow, specially. so, this thing does not look like it is coming to the united states, it will be surging out to sea from all indications. so, that's what we're dealing with, with fay. otherwise, today, 61 degrees, in philadelphia, 62 at the shore, the poconos, looking at 58 degrees, we get clearing

skies, later on in the afternoon, but we definitely will be having this morning rain. our sunset tonight, 6:28. this sunday is getting very lazy on us, temperatures tonight getting down to 45 degrees. clearing skies. and then over the next couple of days, these cooler temperatures don't last forever, fortunately. 64 degrees tomorrow, with the sunshine, monday, clouds, maybe a shower, 70 degrees, and tuesday, 76, wednesday, we're at 70, and tuesday and wednesday, either one of those two days, you could be dealing with thunderstorm, as well. then by thursday, 68 degrees, then friday, maybe about 70 degrees. so, this is probably at least in a shorter term the worse part of it, this saturday morning forecast, todd. >> carol, thank you. officials this weekend are looking into how a frightening situation at a zoo in arkansas happened on friday. three year old child fell into jaguar exhibit at the little rock zoo. zoo officials say staff members used fire extinguish tow keep the jaguires from approaching while the boy was

liver in the cbs-3 skydeck with eyewitness weather, good morning, carol. >> well, it is here, my umbrella, that is. city still behind me. i'll step briefly out of the way there. see the wet roads, now the trick is going to be juggling the microphone, the clicker, and this umbrella but let's give it a shot. here we go. we head outside. and you can see we are looking at some pretty decent conditions, if you like a lot in the way of rain. but, otherwise, it is cents not so great out there. and we're going to be watching for improving weather, as we go through the day today, so we put this thing in motion, and we find ourselves with a 49 degrees temperature, in pennington, dover, 53, broomall, 49, bethlehem, 48 degrees, and it is cents a wet start to the day, and you can see that verified on storm scan3, as these showers roll in to the area. they're not going to be here forever, but we definitely have them first thing this morning. our temperatures are in the 50's, every place, except the poconos, at 44 degrees.

it is 59 down in wildwood, as the warmest spot, 53 in philadelphia, at the airport, 51 in trenton, 54 degrees in wilmington. and our day will shape up like this. the rain will start to think about ending around the noon hour or so, then we get maybe still lingering sprinkle or shower, in a couple of spots this afternoon, but the trend is for this to get out of here. let's take a look at our computer model that says by 7:00, yes, we are in this. by 9:00, they're getting put strut ready at fdr park, actual walk at 11:00. go down there anyway, great events out today, and just support the people that are throughout trying to help this whole community. then by noon, notice we start to see lessening of the showers. by the time we hit 3:00 p.m., some clouds around here. but, the trend is to get this out of here. and then as we move on, through the rest of the weekends, i think you will like it, far better than what we are dealing with right now. so, that's how it looks

outside. and migrate stuff to nick my floor director for juggling some of this with me. when we come back in, we'll talk about the forecast, at least the temperatures warm up this week, and we'll talk about what else coming up. >> carol, thank you. now to the latest on the ebola virus here in the u.s. the family of thomas duncan, victim who died in texas hospital this week, is asking questions about the care he received. cbs news correspondent omar villafranca has the latest from dallas. >> the family of the first ebola fatality in the u.s., thomas eric duncan, released 1400 pages of medical records to the associated press. the files reportedly show that during his initial visit to the emergency room two weeks ago, duncan had a 103 degrees fever. he also complains of dizziness, headache, and severe abdominal pain, which he rated a eight out of ten. even after telling hospital staff he just came from west africa, they sent him home

with antibiotics and tylenol. >> if you went to the hospital right now, and your tell wire was 103 degrees, no doctor will send you home. >> the liberian man returned to the emergency room two days later. the ebola virus killed duncannon wednesday. in a statement, texas health president by tear yan has defended its care every duncan saying we've made changes to our in-take process as well as other procedures, to better screen for all critical indicators of ebola virus. >> duncan's family doesn't think he received proper care here at the hospital and they are considering legal action. >> at this moment, they are grieving for the fact that they were not -- they were not able to give him a decent burial but had to be cremated the same day of his death. >> duncan's girlfriends is still quarantined, but so far, she doesn't have a fever or other symptoms of ebola n dallas, omar villafranca, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". the world health

organization says number of people who have died of ebola in four west african nations has now topped 4,000. the outbreak is prompting one congregation here in philadelphia to takings, and i "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson live outside ' none tabernacle baptist church with more. steve? >> reporter: todd, this is all about taking direct action in a crisis set this year has often left us feeling so helpless, well, today, is a day, again, for that action behind me. you see this event, it is called heart for liberia. it starts this morning. it is a day to do something about what is happening overseas. open to the public, starting at again at about 9:00 this morning, a day of service, the culmination after lot of coordination between the eye beer yan community, that is here, in philadelphia, and the one that's struggling with thousands of deaths in west africa. your part is simple. ' none is asking for donations, they can send overseas, and they say the

need for supplies right now is incredibly vital. we spoke to one of the reverend about the need and why it is so great. >> people can live. they can eat. they can be nourished, and then, also, people over in west africa can have some hope in my brothers and sisters in the u.s.a. and other places cents cents really care about them there. and that's what our effort is about, especially, with ' none tabernacle. >> so, there are many items they can use, but here is where the need is greatest. it is basically in simple basic cleaning supplies including chlorine bleach, hand sands advertisers, medical gloves, masks, and of course, any time there is crisis like this, cans food is appreciated. cash donations are appreciated, as well, but they say because the need is so great for these supplies, and they can do it so much more directly and quickly, that they're asking for the public to donate those things that are listed. we have more on the website at

cbsphilly.com as well. the latest from mt. airy, steve patterson, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". okay, steve, thank you. dozens gather in center city philadelphia, to hold a vigil for patients suffering from lyme disease. they held candles and commemorated lives lost to the disease. many of those in attendance are lime patients, who say, it is time to update treatment guidelines for the disease the victim held outside the hotel where the infectious diseases society of america are holding a medical conference. police are searching for a suspect wanted in 14 robberies in northeast philadelphia, the latest happened just yesterday morning. take a look at the surveillance video between august and this month, police say, the suspect has hit different bars and restaurants, liquor stores, and convenience stores, including five 7-eleven's. he pulls a gun and demands money before taking off. he's madoff so far with thousands of dollars. two men on camera are caught stealing bicycles in

philadelphia, now under arrest, and facing charges, police say robert, and john, stole four bicycles at a garage on 18th street in rittenhouse square last weekends. the suspect arrested while trying to steel two more bike sickels at 33rd and market. was also charged with stealing a 600-dollar mountain bike at 32nd and chestnut on wednesday. the search is underway for a robbery suspect who punched his victim in the face in south philadelphia. police say the suspect attacked a 47 year old victim at bigler and darian, and tried to take his bag, and this all happened on september 15th. the victim was able to fight off the suspect, if you recognize that suspect, you're being urged to contact police right away. and, president owe bamm a.m. is once again intervening to avert a septa regional rail strike. the president has created a second emergency board to mediate the labor dispute between septa and locomotive

engineers. president's order requires septa to continue operating as usual for 120 days from the effective date of the new panel, which is monday. that's also cents when the term of the first panel expires. the fight to keep the bankrupt trump taj mahal casino from close something heeding up. management and union workers locked in a battle over employee benefits.
