ever traveling to africa. officials were at the dallas home of the unidentified nurse to calm neighbors' fears. she has been in isolation since reporting a fever on friday. the test came back positive late last night. the cdc says there was a breach of protocol but they aren't sure how since the worker wore full protective gear. they've recommended texas health presbyterian hospital designate a full-time infection control supervisor. and president barack obama wants answers and has asked the cdc to fast track their investigation. cbs news correspondent brian webb has more. >> reporter: a hospital worker helping to treat ebola patient thomas duncan was infected with the virus while wearing a mask, gown, gloves and other protective clothing. >> how disturbing it is that even after those precautions this person still contracted the disease. >> we're very concerned. >> reporter: officials at texas health presbyterian hospital are not releasing the

name of the female patient who is listed in stable condition. she came in contact with duncan after his second visit to the hospital after he was diagnosed with ebola. duncan died last week. >> even a single breach can can result in contamination. >> reporter: top health officials believe the worker somehow broke safety protocol and are trying to determine exactly what happened. >> one of the areas that we look at closely are things like how you take off the gear that might be infected or contaminated. >> reporter: ebola is not airborne. health experts say it can can only spread through direct contacts with bodily fluids including blood, sweat and saliva. >> we are confident that the pro cautions we have in place right now are protecting our healthcare workers. >> reporter: texas authorities are monitoring about 50 people in the dallas area who may have come in contact with duncan before he went to the hospital. brian webb for cbs3 "eyewitness news."

>> and stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of this story. you can learn more about the ebola virus on our web site, cbsphilly.com. it was a gorgeous day across the region, almost enough to make you forget about those saturday showers. justin drabick joins us from the sky deck with a first look at your forecast. >> evening, diana. not a bad way to finish off the weekend. temperatures cool for this time of year but a great october day with the sunshine. temperatures a good 4 degrees below average as made it into the mid 60's. 64 the official temperature in philadelphia, that's what we forecast today. same number in allentown. nice 57 up in the poconos where we're seeing some good fall color showing up with the fall foliage. low 60's along the shore. everybody pretty much uniform as far as the temperatures go. right now still somewhat on the mild side. 62 in philadelphia, 61 allentown, trenton. down to 58 degrees this hour, low 50's in mount pocono. the suburbs starting to cool off nicely. 57 both in quakertown and in

willow grove this hour. currently clear skies over center city but i'm looking off to the south and east or west and starting to see clouds roll in. you can see that on storm scan tree. a little upper level disturbance to start to increase cloud cover tonight but we should stay dry. good news for the big game tonight, giants-eagles, 8:30. we'll talk about shower chances this week but temperatures are certainly going to warm up as well. we'll get to those details in the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. deanna back to you. >> thank you justin. we're a few hours away from a huge divisional matchup for the eagles. the birds host the new york giants in south philadelphia tonight. >> e-a-g-l-e-s, eagles! >> "eyewitness news" at lincoln financial field where fans were out early getting fired up for the big game. we asked them if the eagles will come out on top tonight. >> ♪ >> it's eli manning's funeral today, it's a blackout.

rest in peace, eli. >> eagles, i'm going 24-17 final victory and somebody gets laid out all day. >> it's going to be very nasty for them giants today, very nasty. >> a funeral. >> coming up in sports we'll have a live report from the field. right now philadelphia police are looking for suspects in connection to two overnight shootings. one of them happened here on westminster avenue in the belmont section of the city. police say the victim was held up by a man riding a bicycle and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. the victim tried running away but he was shot twice in the leg. he's in stable condition at the hospital. police are also investigating another shooting, this one in the west oak lane neighborhood of philadelphia. officers arrived on the scene to find a 17-year-old man shot in the ankle. it's not clear just how that happened. the victim is recovering in the hospital tonight. well, a community comes together to create a lasting tribute to a little girl who got caught in the crossfire of

gun violence. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is live in grays ferry tonight to tell us how music is bringing comfort to more than just her family. steve. >> reporter: well, diana, it's been more than two months since a mother lost her only child just a few streets away from this park in a crossfire incident. tonight in affirmation that her death meant something that the community is using her love and memory to fight back against such senseless violence. >> we ask that -- we just come together this day for her and her parents. >> her mother. >> reporter: sunday in stinger park families that never forget. >> it's really hard. >> reporter: nearly 60 days ago young mother tamika borem brought her daughter caught in the crossfire murder in there a senseless shooting in the streets of grays ferry. grays ferry hasn't forgotten. >> that three year old could have been our next secretary of state or lawyer or doctor but we will never know because

of the senseless violence that plagues the city of philadelphia. >> reporter: sunday community activist antoine moore organizing a day of service, prayer, healing and most importantly awareness in memory of her. >> we can't be fed up for one day and disappear. we got to be on the front line fighting. >> we got to do whatever we can. >> reporter: eileen russell says her weapon is the park. after all the speakers, organizers reporters and cameras leave she'll continue that fight like she has every day trying to keep young men engaged with positive activity and off the streets. >> we have to give them something else to do. we have to have more programming in our recreation centers and our parks so that they can come and get involved in positive things, keep them off the street where they're safe. >> reporter: in this neighborhood they call that woman miss irene. she's a force of nature. she just started organizing support groups for more families who have similar stories and she says there are

far too many in this neighborhood. they also shot a music video during that time in that organization in the park. they said they hope that will turn viral and that their frustration will turn into inspiration for more families who watch. it's the latest grays ferry, steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you, steve. it's been one month since the ambush on two state troopers triggered an all out manhunt for eric frein in upstate pennsylvania. he's still on the loose tonight despite sightings and the discovery of weapons and personal effects. officials hope the drop in temperature will draw him out of his hiding place and believes he'll lose a lot of cover as the leaves fall. uneasiness over the suspected murder prompted barrett township officials to cancel o halloween events. they say they may reconsider if he's found before the fifty onest. the weekend of resistance continues in ferguson month movement 17 people were arrested last night for refusing to comply with police. planned protests continue

people injured when a jeep pulling the hey ride lost control and flipped over last night. police think the jeep had a mechanical problem that kept the driver from stopping. the ride went off the road and hit a tree. some of the injuries were very serious. >> we're talking broken bones, broken leg bones, femur bones, broken ken backs, shoulder injuries, ankle injuries, scrapes, cuts, head injuries. >> police are still investigating that crash tonight. columbus day is officially tomorrow. but the celebrations kicked off a little early in philadelphia this weekends. thousands of people turned out along south broad street today for the annual columbus day parade. local bands floats and performers marched up the streets waving flags and showing pride for their heritage. >> it represents italian american, that's what i am, i am an italian american and this is what columbus day means to me.

italian american. >> and this is now the 56th year the parade and festival have been held in philadelphia. also today, families throughout the delaware valley walked together in support of children with serious medical conditions. the fourth annual walk for wishes kicked off at the philadelphia zoo early this morning. the event is held every year to raise funds and awareness for the make a wish foundation. indeed a great cause. there was just about anything for everyone at the first annual olde city fest today. some of the area's best food vendors artists and musicians lined the streets in the city's most historic neighborhood. even a few local businesses took part. franklin fountain, stout vintage and snack parlor to name a few. well, after a soggy saturday it turned out to be beautiful today. meteorologist justin drabick has the work week forecast. hi, justin. >> hey, diana, that's right t a well deserved nice weekends

day here in the delaware valley and we have clear skies currently over center city but just offer to the west i'm noticing some high clouds. that's a sign of some changes coming up in our forecast. also a sign of some warmer air that's going to return to the region and you compare right now to this time yesterday, it is much warmer. we had the clouds and the mist around this time yesterday but now we're about five to aidless warmer than 24 hours ago. this is a saint milder air starting to move in. still hanging out in the lower 60's, philadelphia, wilmington, allentown and reading. some 50's showing up in some of the cooler suburbs but there's nothing really cold even off to the north and west. 60 in buffalo, 64 in cleveland, so a mild push of air will continue to build in from the south and west. and you can see the flow on storm scan3. you can see some high clouds moving in to the washington baltimore they are will continue to move into the delaware valley tonight. those clouds will keep the temperatures milder. it will hold in some of the heat. notice a little rain showing up around the d.c. area. i just checked the current observations.

that is not reaching the ground so we'll keep things dry tonight. changes in the jet stream this week. this is going to control our weather. check out monday and tuesday, the jet takes a strip well to the north so that brings in a push of warm air from the south. temperatures go back above average tuesday, wednesday, but notice what happens, a pocket of cool air returns for the end of the week especially on thursday and with that, we are going to see some increased shower chances. now, the tropics are really active right now. we have two storms, one at the top of your screen, that's hurricane if fay. newly formed tropical storm gonzalez tracking offer to the west. right now winds at 45 miles per hour. that storm is expecteded to strengthen as it moves over the islands and eventually taking a northerly term and could become a category two hurricane by the end of the week. good news looks like this storm stays out over the open water of the atlantic so no threat to the u.s. mainland at this point. clouds roll in tonight. tomorrow morning waking up to partly to mostly cloudy skies. there could be a stray shower

in some spots tomorrow. not going to be a big deal. if you get the shower it will be very light and very scattered. tuesday kind of the same story, limited sunshine, much warmer. could be a shower or two especially north and west of the city. wednesday starts off dry with some sunshine but then i think the clouds really build up and we'll see a good chance of some showers coming in later wednesday afternoon, wednesday night. here are the temperatures. tomorrow mid and upper 60's for the afternoon highs. so, that's right near average for this time of year but check out tuesday. pushing the upper 70's, maybe even 80 degrees in the warm spots depending on how much sunshine we see. overnight partly cloudy, not as cold, low 52 for center city, some 40's in the cooler suburbs. tomorrow generally mostly cloudy skies. we have to flow that chance for a shower in some spots especially in the afternoon. high temperature up around 68 degrees. now here we go with the extended forecast. really warming up for the middle of the week. we go from 68 tomorrow and the clouds with some sun. tuesday we're up to 78, breezy with late day showers. that will continue into wednesday night. highs again wednesday in the

washington, they've beaten atlanta and houston and they are not great teams. >> no, they are not. well, a lot of credit for their three in a row given to the quarterback eli manning. over 30 points per game in the last three victories. your thoughts on eli and his efficient improved play. >> well, it is improved because last year he was a virtual interception machine throwing 27 picks but they have a newest coast offense that's filled by ben mcadamant he knows what he's do. it's a green bay type effect and they get it out of his hands very quickly. >> merrill i got to ask you about nick foles. a lot of questions about him this week, his timing, his confidence. what do you think? what's going on. >> i know nick and his confidence is intact. he is a prime time player, lesley. you have to remember last year when he beat the dallas cowboys in the game they had to win on a sunday night. so, i think nick will be just fine. >> i think it's very important that the eagles have a running game on this night. little bit better last week.

what do you think when it comes to shady and the improving offensive line? >> well, i agree with you. they must get production from shady mccoy. he tells me that he's going to break something big tonight. >> uh-oh. >> we will see. but i think with lane johnson back for the second week, and todd herremans at right guard and the young players getting more acclimated to playing a full game i think they're going to be better tonight. >> and then a final thought on the black uniforms. i mean, everybody has been talking about it. we've seen them behind us. it looks pretty spiffy to me. i don't know who they are. >> i've always been -- >> could be the raiders. >> i've always been a green guy myself. i think they're okay at west point. i'm not sure. i'm ready for the black knights of the schuylkill. >> let's hope it works tonight. >> all right. that is merrill reese. merrill call a great game. we thank you as always for joining us and i don't know what to say. i know that i can't lose the game tonight. >> it will be fun. well, you were a former giant. we love you anyhow.
