diverted to lax after a passenger vomite vomited and cod of flu-like symptoms. she was isolated and a hazmat team flown in but she had not been exposed to the violence. hazmat crews spent the day at the home of the nurse tested positive for ebola. the cdc says there was a breach of protocol but they aren't clear on how she was infected. since she wore full protective gear. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers tells us where the investigation stands tonight. >> reporter: preventive measures were supposedly all there. the hospital worker was wearing a mask, gown, gloves and other protective clothing while she helped treat ebola patient thomas duncan and yet she still was infected by the virus. >> how is it even after those precautions this person is still contracted the disease? >> we're very concerned. >> reporter: texas health presbyterian officials did not identify the hospital workers. she came into contact with

duncan during his second visit to the hospital. he died last week. >> even a single breach can result in contamination. >> reporter: health officials tell cbs news they believe the worker made a mistake somehow violatinviolating safety protocs exactly how she did that, though, remains unknown. >> one of the areas that we look at closely are things like how you take off the gear that might be infected. >> reporter: experts you cannot contract the virus through the air. direct contact with bodily fluids is the only way for it to spread. >> we're confident that the precautions we have in place right now are protecting our health care workers. >> reporter: over four dozen people in the dallas area had been in could contact with duncan before he went to the hospital and are being monitored by texas authorities. the woman who tested positive was not one of those people under observe but rather had been quote self monitoring to check for ebola symptoms. we're in the sat center, matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> and stay with "eyewitness

news" for continuing coverage ebola crisis. you can learn more at cbsphilly.com. sunday night, and under the stars "eyewitness news" is at philadelphia's dilworth park. it was a picture perfect fall day but showers are in the forecast. meteorologist justin drabick is live on the cbs-3 sky deck for us tonight. hi, justin. >> good evening, diana. you do need the jack outside tonight. temperatures not as cold as last night. we have some cloud cover that's moving in to the region that's actually going to keep our temperatures up tonight. also, a sign of some changes in our forecast which means some shower chances this week. check out the temperatures compared to this time yesterday. we're 6 degrees warmer in philadelphia. four in allentown. wilmington and dover and seven in reading. so that's going to be the trend over the next 24 to 48 hours. warmer temperatures. we still have clear skies to the north, up in allentown at 46 degrees. 44 in mount pocono but the clouds moving in south and west, that's keeping the temperatures up in the mid 50s in wilmington

and reading and 57 degrees still at the airport in philadelphia. some colder suburbs though just to the north quake consider town 43 degrees at this hour. 48 in out in mt. holly, new jersey. here comes some clouds not producing rainfall. little bit of green showing up on radar not reaching the ground. the the clouds will lower and thicken over the next 12 hours or so that's the progression tonight. increasing clouds, have a around center city. cool start but not as cold as it's been. still in the 40s in many of the suburbs. but not a bad rebound for the afternoon temperatures up to 68 for philadelphia. right near average sky cover mostly cloudy. can't rule out scattered shower during the afternoon pretty much wherever you are across the delaware valley a high near 70 at the shore and near 60 degrees in the poconos. now coming up in the full forecast we'll talk about better chances for showers later this week and temperatures well above average that's all coming up in the seven day in just a few minutes. diana. >> thank you justin.

an ex-con living in atlantic city is back behind bars a tonight accused killing his own mother just days after being released from prison. steven pratt was arrested early this morning. police tell "eyewitness news" they found his mother dead at the home they shared on the mckinley avenue. pratt just finished a 30 year jail sentence on friday for another murder he committed back in 1984. police say alcohol played a role in a delaware crash that ended with one man dead and another injured. robert hixon released and bail after being charged with homicide by vehicle driving under the insurance and other related offenses. investigators say the 5584 old hit two friends as they walked in the shoulder of mill town road at heritage park drive in wilmington just after 1:00 o'clock this morning. 19 year old steven devario was pronounced at the hospital. his 20 year old friend was treated for minor injuries recent leased. >> gunshots outside a philadelphia supermarket and one ma and is hospitalized in critical condition.

police tell "eyewitness news" it started as, altercation in the parking lot of of this pathmark on frankford avenue. one man was armed with 95. the other had a gun. in the end, the man with the knife was shot once. police later discover the gun was properly licensed. no word if any charges will be filed. >> another shooting is under investigation tonight. this one is at the belmont section. police say a man was held up on west minster avenue when he tried running away he was shot twice in the leg. he's now in stable condition. the gunman was ride ago bike and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt at the time. 17 year old man is recovering tonight after being shot in the ankle. crime scene was taped off here in the west oak lane neighborhood of philadelphia. it's not clear how it happened or if police have identified any suspects. >> a devastating loss felt by an and tire community three year old girl killed by a stray bullet. >> and this is not something you'd want to see on your next flight. oxygen mask hanging from the ceiling of the plane. u.s. airways flight from laguardia to charlotte lost cabin pressure last night as it was getting ready to land causing the masks to drop. passenger took this video. no one there was injured but the jet was expected by maintenance crews. >> in santa barbara california an amtrak train hits a group of people taking selfies on a tressel. one person died. two others were injured. another person did manage to escape unharm. police say they were taking selfies around sunset last night when the train approached and they tried to jump out of the way. halloween hayride in maine at the center of an investigation tonight after an accident left a 17 year old girl dead and more than a dozen others seriously injured. the attraction remains closed as authorities try to figure out how it all happened. jim smith from our sister station wbz takes a closer look.

broken bones, broken leg bones, femur bones. >> reporter: hayride at harvest hill forms in mechanic falls maine turned into a nightmare a jeep carrying a flatbed trailer suddenly losing control, kareening into the woods nearly two dozen people were hurt. and a 17 year old girl was killed. this is the trailer being brought to a command center where police check it out on sunday. the people running the farm say they're devastated. >> our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and the people that were here, the employees who witnessed it, and especially the familiar of the victims. >> reporter: killed star athlete 17 year old cassidy of oakland maine 16 year old boy was also badly hurt and transferred to boston children's hospital. many of the injured were taken to central maine medical center including this girl's cousin with a concussion. >> i knew she worked there. and i called -- my mom called her mom. and she was being life lived and right now she has a concussion.

>> the main stay farm marshall's officer is lead the investigation prime focus the condition of the trailer and the jeep being used to pull it. the drive said mechanical problem prevented him from stopping. >> the vehicle hit a tree. knock the tree over which it came to rest in a group of hardwood trees and threw everybody off the trailer. >> reporter: the farm was closed on sunday during the investigation but will reopen on monday. >> and that was jim smith reporting from our sister station wbc. another tragic accident in being reported at a halloween attraction this one in idaho. 18 year old man was playing the role of a zombie at a popular corn maze when a busload full of visitors drove by his job to jump out and scare them. but witnesses say he stumbled, fell and got crushed under the vehicle's tires. he was killed instantly. the arrest of a 14 year old boy in california has many wondering when does it become criminal to scare someone? the teen was arrested on suspicion

of annoying minor after allegedly chasing a younger child while dressed as a clown. police in bakersfield say they received numerous calls about clowns roaming the area with weapons. but they say this was the only time they found someone in a costume and he was not armed. >> some of you may be celebrating columbus day tomorrow but the festivities kicked off early today in philadelphia. thousands of people lined up along south broad street to see the annual column base day parade. local bands, floats, performers marched up the street waving flags for many of those watching it was all about showing pride in their heritage. >> it represents italia italian-american. that's what i am. i italian-american. and this is what columbus day means to me. italian-american. >> and this is not 56th year the parade and festival have been held here in philadelphia. it was also a great day for a walk at the philadelphia zoo.

a few chances coming up in the seven day forecast but we're staying dry tonight but clouds are moving on in. and think of it as a blanket. warmth we had today will be held in near the surface. temperatures milder than the past couple of nights. check out storm scan3 you can see the clouds moving from the south and west stylette pretty clear north of the city in the lehigh valley and the poconos temperature have cooled off nightly. still in the fief 50s. not whole lot of rain showing up. that's not even reaching the ground around washington, d.c. really far south into southern virginia to find any rain reaching the ground. we'll keep it dry overnight into the start of the work week. 57 degrees actually a degree warmer than last hour in philadelphia. 46 in allentown with clearer skies. 44 in mount pocono. 57 in the capital city of delaware. mid 50s near the shore at this hour. we'll zoom things out a little bit. no cold air coming in from the north and west. or the west.

so that's what we'll be dealing with warmer temperatures coming up over the next few days part of that reason is the wind direction. notice the wind arrows tomorrow afternoon pointerring off to the north and west. that means a southeast wind so that's a warm mr. wind also has a little bit more humidity with it that southeast wind continues into tuesday and wednesday. it will pick up in speed and help transport warmer temperatures. we'll go a good 10 degrees above average and maybe even making a run at 80 degrees this week. also, the jet stream is taking a ride to our north. that big ridge over the eastern seaboard will allow the temperatures to go above average but notice that cool pool of air over the central u.s. that starts to move eastward and impacts our area later wednesday into thursday with a threat for some showers and temperatures closer to average. the tropics are certainly a life. two storms going on one at the top of your screen. that's tropical storm if any moving eastward away from the us. it will continue to weaken. newly formed tropical storm gone sal low over the lesser antill

antilles. take look at that storm right now in the forecast track. winds currently at 45 miles per hour moving west at 12. it will be off to west to northwest track and turn north later this week and possibly become a category two hurricane and maybe even head towards we are mud today but as of now it looks like this storm stays out over the open waters of the atlantic. clouds thicken up tonight. mostly cloudy start to our day. the morning commute monday is good. into the afternoon there could be a scattered shower. most areas stay dry. dealing with lot of clouds. little bit more sunshine on tuesday that will warm us up. well into the 70 70s to possibly 80 degrees and then here comes that storm later wednesday. so wednesday afternoon into the nighttime hours best shot to see some steadier showers moving on in. temperatures tomorrow where they should be. mid and upper askings for afternoon highs. but notice what happens tuesday. mid and even some upper and ifs and maybe even 80 degrees for the afternoon temperature on tuesday. not as cold overnight partly cloudy 52 for center city.

some 40s in the suburbs. a shower chance tomorrow but i think most areas stay dry. mostly cloudy skies temperature around 68 degrees and again if you get that shower it will be very brief, very light. they will be scattered. here's thing 10ed forecast. up err per 70s to near 80 tuesday and wednesday it looks like wednesday later during the night best shot for showers. those showers could linger into thursday. we dry out with more sunshine heading into next weekend with highs right around 70 degrees. that's a check of your "eyewitness weather" forecast. we'll season it back over to beasley. >> eagles in action and running a it way from the unites giants on the way to five and one on the season and eagles update and a look at the cowboys and redskins as we go around the division on this nfl sunday. sports coming up.
