>> quite a moment inside that hospital room just a short time ago. nina pham arrived in maryland. she'll on treatment inside an isolation unit at the national institutes of health. earlier her fellow nurses gathered outside that hospital in dallas as she left. they cheered. they held signs and they wished her well. meantime, in washington, the president said tonight he is not ideologically approveideologicao banning travel from west africa. but he said experts he's spoken with say it would be counter productive. >> well philadelphia's readiness for the ebola virus was top of mind for the city's top leader today's. >> city firefighters among those talking with city council today. they showed council members protecprotective suits that medd firefighters now have.

fire officials say that they do meet federal requirements, but the union says they simply would not provide enough protection from something like ebola. >> they should bewaring the bio hazmat chemical suits and that's what we assumed wrongfully so that that's what the department was going to be outfitting our members in. >> news tonight the main health officer in trenton told city council there that he wants to create a list of questions for 911 operators and health care workers to ask of potential ebola patients. well of the three cases now in the united states, all involve adults but wasn't if a child were to be infected? >> well we learned today that chop is now one of the few hospitals in the country designated to handling any possible weed pediatric cases. "eyewitness news" matt rivers joins us live from chop with that part of our coverage tonight. >> reporter: chris and natasha, hospital officials tell us they've been preparing for this since august. the hospital could treat us children being evacuated from

west africa or care for children diagnosed while on u.s. soil. whatever the situation are the children's hospital of philadelphia says it is ready. >> items from the cdc if we had to care for a child with ebola. >> they created an internal ebola task force to institute guidelines of treatin treating e disease and making sure it's other patients are cared for. it instituted a screening protocol to identify at risk patients and ensured possible protective equipment or ppe is available and continued to employ on-going staff training on the proper and reliable use of ppe. the use of that equipment highlighted after two nurses in dallas, texas who treated and ebola patient contracted the disease themselves despite wearing protective gear. chop officials say in their hospital, that would be prevented. >> education is critical and it's something that needs to be repeated again and again. so we have to developed policies and procedures around the safe

sprayed mace at the bus while other broke wer a window with a baseball bat. a 15 year old student was cut by the broken glass when that accident happened. a startling scene on the pennsylvania turnpike today. the cab of this tractor trailer dangles off bridge after the truck jackknifed. the driver got out on his own and was not injured. the accident happened on the westbound lanes in bensalem. no other cars were involved in this crash. investigation is currently under what. >> developing now hunter biden son of vice-president joe biden was discharged from the navy reserve after testing positive for cocaine. the navy confirmed the reason for biden's discharge tonight. now he failed a drug test last year and was discharged earlier this year. a us official says the navy never contacted the vice-president's office about the incident. in a statement hunter biden said "it was the honor of my life to serve in the us navy and i

deeply regret and am embarrassed my actions led to my administration discharge. i respect the navy's decision. with the love and support of my family, i'm moving forward ". >> that news broke today after the vice-president visited philadelphia to tour the latest phase of the delaware river dredging project. vice-president biden did not comment on his son's discharge. philadelphia teachers block broad street angry at the src and cancellation of their labor contract. some parents and students joined those teachers for the protests late this afternoon. the school reform commission canceled the teacher's contract a couple of weeks ago. forcing them to contribute for the first time to their health care premiums. the district says that will allow millions of dollars to go back in to schools but the teacher's union calls it a pay cut. >> it's a shame it's come to this. like nobody wants to be here. were want to be in the classrooms and with our students, you know, but this is our livelihood. this is what we do, and we have

to be there for our kids and we have to be there for own families. >> that rally was held ahead of tonight's src meeting the first since the contract was cancel. students and parents and teachers rather called for the src to be disbanned during three hours of public comments. we have new details now in a story that you saw first here on "eyewitness news". parents of 250 students are now scrambling to find a new school. their kids were forced out of their charter school which says it can no longer afford their education. and there could be hundreds of additional cuts to come. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones has more on the lottery where many came out on the losing end. >> reporter: outrage and heartbreak for parents with kids on the losing end of the lotte lottery. >> it's going to hurt him. >> it hurts you, too. >> reporter: some parts say they believe school administrators new this day was coming.

students in grade k through 12 the philadelphia school district said the greed cap for reimburse many for the city charter school is 675 kids. and so the district successfully argued in court it does not have to reimburse palmer charter school for the 525 students over the cap. several other charter schools were here tonight signing up some of those kids who were cut from school here. in addition to that the philadelphia school district has been working with some of the parents to help them enroll their kids in public school if they so chose. reporting from northern liberties, todd quinones cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> well, new details meantime in the death of legendary comedian joan rivers. medical examiner released his findings today. says rivers died from low blood oxygen. the 81 year old died on september 4th 1 week after she went into cardiac arrest during a routine medical procedure at a manhattan clinic. >> also tonight, bermuda is bracing for a very powerful storm. hurricane gonzalo is huge and it

is heading right toward the island. meteorologist kathy orr is in the weather center with a closer look at this storm. kathy. >> look behind me you can see the swells are growing. this is an angry ocean as the hurricane is getting closer tropical storm force winds will be felt early tomorrow morning. this is hurricane gonzalo expecting a significant storm surge. hurricane fabian a major category storm also produced storm surge of 10 feet. the same thing could happen with this storm tomorrow afternoon. here's the very latest on the track of gonzalo packing maximum sustained wind of 140 miles an hour. it is moving quickly to the north northeast at 14 miles an hour. that puts the center of the storm very close to or passing over bermuda tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening. as a major storm category four or a strong category three. producing significant damage and flooding and then racing toward the north and east. we'll continue to follow this major story in the weather also coming up we'll talk about our

planned. after the first try out only sage was picked. >> the day that we found out who made it i was really excited for myself i didn't want to upset her. >> when tryouts for the following season came around gabrielle la wasn't sure she wanted to go through it again. >> hearing how much she loved it and you have to try out again. you have to do it. >> and she made it. now they're both on the squad. practicing twice a week performing at all home games. >> and having double the fun in the caribbean sun eagles website says gabrielle la and sage pose on a mexican peach for the annual cheerleader swimsuit calendar it's had ard to tell them apart but at least the team choreographer can. >> they do have their own sense of self and it just takes a moment, you know, one has a different glimmer in her eyes. one has a little bit smile. >> i have a rounder face. >> i feel like her cheek bones and jawbone is char sharper.

into the 50s. and we'll bottom out in the 50s overnight tonight. come tomorrow morning as well on storm scan3 looking at a partly cloudy sky. just a real quiet night across the delaware valley. in philadelphia hanging on to 60 degrees but elsewhere pretty cool. allentown 54. 53 in the poconos and 59 in trenton. to the west temperatures much cooler in state college, pittsburgh and even cleveland so you can see what's moving on eastward. during the day on friday look for sunshine, temperatures in the 70s. no weather issues. watch this area of low pressure to the north. try to pull down some cooler a air. saturday temperatures will be bordering 69, 70 degrees. but the big push of the cool air moves in for sunday. we're talking about morning lows in the 30s 40s. highs only in the 50s and once we get down into that 50, 55-degree mark, we're going to be sticking there for little while. it's going to be slow to cool keeping an eye on the jet stream. staying pretty status quo for the next couple of days but then

taking a major dip saturday night through sunday and that will make big changes in our seven day forecast as we see those cooler temperatures really linger for the longest stretch we've seen since last spring. overnight patchy clouds. it will be cooler. the low temperature 54 in the city. cooler in our suburb. for your friday mostly sun know great day to be outside the high temperature 71 degrees. if you're heading toward the poconos, to view the peak fall foliage it's going to be a beautiful weekend. friday, 62. saturday 58. but look at sunday. not just sweater weather but fleece weather with high temperatures only in the 40s. lows around freezing. and on the exclusive "eyewitness weather" seven day forecast, 69 will be the high on saturday. sunday look for a high of 57. monday the coldest morning yet. 40 in philadelphia. 30s in our suburbs. monday's high 58. tuesday more rain and then wednesday and thursday still looking at some cool temperatures.
