information tonight about the first texas nurse to be diagnosed with ebola. doctors have downgraded the condition of nina pham. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm natasha brown in for jessica. right now, at 11:00 o'clock, doctors downgraded 19 at a pham's condition. they dropped her from good condition to fair but say she is resting comfortably. also, tonight researcher at the national institutes of health where pham is being treated say they are working feverishly on a possible ebola vaccine. and today president obama named ron klain former chief of staff to vice-presidents joe biden and al gore to serve as ebola czar. as for the cruise ship carrying dallas health care worker being monitored for signs of ebola it's heading back to texas. that ship was refused permission to dock in cozumel, mexico. officials all across the delaware valley they want the public to know they are prepared for e bella. this as we learn another philadelphia hospital could soon be on the front line to fight the virus. the hospital of the university

of pennsylvania will care for medical workers who contract ebola while working in west africa. the hospital has conduct the refresher training and says it is able to safely and effectively isolate suspected cases. >> pennsylvania currently does not have any positive cases of ebola report roar urging callie and trying to aula fear they're appearing to pennsylvania residents assuring them steps are in place much this the heels of news that three people from northwestern pennsylvania were on the frontier airlines flight on monday from columbus to dallas that carried nurse amber vincent who has ebola. >> at this point in time they are showing in symptoms. in addition to having daily calls with those residents, we will be continuing to have them self monitor. >> reporter: governor corbett says three unidentified pennsylvanians are still in texas and have been told by the cdc not to travel for 21 days. the governor was planked by state health officials during a press briefing. secretary of state high cal wolf

reiterating that the ebola risk to the general public is very low but preparations for potential cases are on-going. >> what we're doing now is evaluating ought of our procedures to determine if there are any gaps or elements that may need to be changed based on the news from texas. >> from governor could be to mayor nutter the mayor tried to quell fears among city residen residents. protective gear is being upgraded in case the threat of ebola reaches within the boundaries of philadelphia. >> the best we can do is to be as best prepared as we can with nothing going on at the moment. >> and new at 11:00, liberian community is uniting to raise money to help fight ebola. "eyewitness news" at african cultural center in southwest philadelphia, as about two dozen or so people learned about the philadelphia foundation new liberia e bowl will row left fund. money raised will be used to provide medical supplies in the hardest hit areas of liberia.

>> one image we associate with the fight against ebola is that of the hazmat suit. did you know that protective chemical suits made right here in our area. are being used in american hospitals and by aid workers in africa? well today it got a chance to try one on and i will show you how effective they can be in just about 10 minutes. well happening right now monster storm is battering a tiny island. hurricane gonzalo hit bermuda late tonight. this nighttime video just in to "eyewitness news". it shows the storm that is expected to batter that island for several hours. meteorologist kathy orr has more on gonzalo's rage. >> this is amazing. this storm at one point about 500 miles wide and you can see it right here on our satellite view a very compact eye passing right over the island of bermu bermuda. we have amazing saturday satellite pictures you can see the wide expanse of this category four storm. at one point. now a category two.

this is the view from space. also, some pictures from a little bit earlier this evening when it was daylight and you can see the storm surge beginning to move in and these destructive waves on top of that surge which could have been as high as 10 feet. we are expecting some significant coastal flooding as a result. now, this storm system continues to move toward the north northeast. right now, the eye of the storm is moving toward the north and we are seeing the southern part of the eye wall move right over bermuda. this right here. x marks the spot so all of that convection. the thunderstorm, right here will be passing over. so this is the second part of the storm. right now maximum sustained winds with this hurricane at 110 miles an hour. it is moving north northeast at 16 miles an hour. it is a category two storm. and even at this speed and this strength it will continue to batter the island of bermuda for the next several hours as chris mentioned by 8:00 o'clock tomorrow morning it will be right about there and by 8:00 o'clock tomorrow night still a category one hurricane

even though it is off the coast of nova scotia over cooler waters this is one poe at the present time storm. that is the very latest on hurricane gonzalo. i'll be back with more on our local weather coming up. >> see you then, kathy. new at 11:00 o'clock tonight search is on for hit-and-run driver who sideswiped a nurse state police cruiser in monmouth county. this is dam cash video that shows that close call for two troopers. they were conducting a vehicle stop on i-95 in upper freehold last saturday when a light colored jeep whizzed by and hit the drive's side of that vehicle. good news the troopers were not injured. new at 11:00 a corrections officer is murdered inside her south philadelphia home stabbed in the back several times. as police pursue a suspect, todd quinones talked with her distraught family. >> my sister was loving, and she didn't deserve what she did to her. whoever did it, turn yours in. let my sister be rest in peace

and let the family rest in peace. please! >> reporter: the sister and other family members of correctional officer frieda denny met outside her home friday night. it's here inside denny's southwest philadelphia home on the 2500 block of south 63rd street her brother found her body. 50 year old was stabbed multiple times in the back. >> i just want them to be caught whoever did it because he was -- he was a bum that establish her in the back report roar her family became suspicious after correct al officer failed to show up at work in the morning at the philadelphia department of corrections university avenue facility. denny was a correctional officer for more than 20 years according to her family, and investigators tell me they are looking into the possibility her killer may have known her. there were no signs of forced entry into the home and sources indicate acquaintance of depth knee's was pulled over for a traffic stop while driving her suv in south philadelphia wednesday night. they say the man was given ticket for driving without a license and her vehicle was um pounded by police.

but at that time denny was not reported missing and the man was allowed to walk away. denny is survived by a daughter and her two grandchildren. >> we just want justice. that's all we want. just justice. >> reporter: late friday night the president of the union which oversees the city correctional officers released this statement saying "the law enforcement community mourns a beloved officer. correctional officer lot tee frieda denny was a deer and wonderful friend and a great co-worker. she will be missed by all of the employees of the philadelphia prisons system and the entire membership of the afscme local 159 ". as of right now, no suspects have been arrested. reporting from police headquarters, in center city, todd quinones cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> police questioned and released two women in connection with a road rage incident that involved a schoolbus full of children. detectives may have located the suv that block the bus during

yesterday's attack at the boulevard and levick. eyewitnesses say a passenger got out and sprayed mace at the bus. while another woman used a bat to break the window of the bus. a 1584 old student suffer cuts. so far no arrests have been ma made. >> also trooper alex douglas left the hospital with a police escort on thursday. and was taken to a rehab facility. he's been hospitalized since the september 12th ambush at the state police barracks in upstate pennsylvania. despite sightings and evidence discoveries suspect eric frein continues to allude police. trooper brian dixon was killed in that attack. >> police want to know if the driver of this tractor trailer was under the influence at the time when he said down norristown streets blew through red lights and even trashed into parked cars. an officer gave chase and fired at the driver fearing for the lives of folk on the streets. the 26 year old driver was shot in the arm and taken to the hospital in handcuffs. >> atlantic city's trump taj

sealed as well. >> and it taped around the seal here. >> as for its resistance to fluids -- we check. they hosed me down with water. >> i'm dry. >> he's dry. >> demand for these disposable suits is rising. >> are there enough out there to meet the demand you're expecting? >> i mean as of now there are. i see the demand or the supply becoming, you know, tighter and tighter. >> well dupont which makes some of those suits says it has more than triple its production of products used by health care workers who are treating ebola. well it is a close encounter that only happens once everyone million years. a large comet is expected to fly by mars on sunday afternoon at exactly 2:27. it's expected to come within 87,000 miles of the red planet which is pretty close in space distance. the comet is traveling about 126,000 miles an hour and as you can imagine nassau's five robotic explorers are in place they're trying to capture images of the extremely rare event.

comfortable. pretty decent today. above seasonal less. our live neighborhood network shows us 73. valley forge the same. international airport 72. the official temperature in lumberton at the middle school checking with a high of 71. we will say goodbye to that warmth as temperatures continue to get cooler and cooler each day in our upcoming forecast. right now holding on to 62 in philadelphia. 60 in wilmington. 59 in dover. 56 in lancaster and in the poconos but not a huge range in temperature as we continue to see those westerly winds. now, we're watching storm scan3 because we have a broad area of low pressure over the great lakes. it's creating some rain showers. we will not see that but a few clouds may linger through the delaware valley overnight tonight, but then the system actually this area of low pressure lifts northward. we will have plenty of sunshine for your saturday. it will be breezy. the difference in pressure between that upper level system and fair weather building in creates a pressure grade yen that's windy conditions. so winds will be a little gusty
