6:38 am
number three are your doctors in the planned networks. those three basic questions that you need to have as you look at your new plans good many employers are introducing these high deductible health plans. what are they what do you think. >> reporter: these plans offer lower premiums in exchange for you having to local shell out a high are deductible and they are pared with something called a health saving account to allow to you set aside pretax machine toy pay for that unreimbursed cost of the higher people yum or i'm sorry higher co pay. if you are healthy and want to save for future health care expenses, this can be a really attractive option, keeping your payments down. also if you are near retirement and it may make sense to use these because money in the health savings account can be used to off set cost of medicare after retirement. but here's the big butt, if you need any expensive medical care the in the next year and might find it hard to
6:39 am
meet that deductible you want to void this option. >> jill, we cannot forget it is open enrollment for medicare what do seniors need to know. >> reporter: open enrollment is open until december 7th and it is a good thing because if anybody looked at this medicare book it thinks big. crazy. medicare recipients can change their health and prescription drug coverage for next year. most medicare benefits will pay in monthly premium of just under 105 bucks a year, same as last year, higher income seniors do pay more. annual deductibles for hospital stays have increased, to $1,260 up from 1216 this year. hopefully that 1.7 percent increase in your social security retirement benefits which was announced yesterday can he help off set of that increased deductible. annual deductibles under part b do remain at 147 bucks. here's the thing, this is a confusing, massive plan. please review your annual
6:40 am
notice of change and you might want to do it with someone that can help you. i did it with my mom. it is in the fun. you have to get through it. you want to evaluate those co pays your your prescription drug plans, if you have questions, call medicare at 800 medicare or you can go to medicare dot gov, very important for seniors to take this seriously you could save a lot of money bingo. got that right. thanks very much. >> good heads up, appreciate it. warnings are now being issued in the for the the ebola virus but about the the ebola business, the scams you need to be aware of when we come back. next time you need groceries head tour pumpkin patch those guards are loaded with health benefits. plus this. >> reporter: plumeting prices at the the pumps. coming up i'll tell you why the drastic drop.
