a nurse quarantined in new jersey speaks out about her her case is being handled we have the latest developments surrounding ebola a here in the united states. >> reporter: police wrap up their investigation at the scene of the school shooting as a town begins to heel, i'm danielle nottingham in merriesville washington and i'll have the story coming up. beaten and shot, police are looking for a man and woman who they say attack a man in the typically quiet neighborhood. we will have have details on. that it is sunday, october 26th, good morning, thanks so much for joining us i'm nicole brewer. it is 6:00 o'clock. let's get a check of the forecast. just the right amount of crispness walking in today.

>> lovely out. >> 60 degrees in center city philadelphia a temperatures are warmer today then they were yesterday morning and warmer then they will be tomorrow morning but how about that afternoon at 70 degrees yesterday. we will be close to that today but wind will definitely be the issue today. 58 degrees in reading right now. it is a mild start but gorgeous out there. we've got sky conditions that are not going to be a problem at all. we don't expect any precipitation today and look at these numbers they are warmer then yesterday certainly. fifty-five in allentown. fifty-nine in trenton right now. we are running 11 degrees warmer then yesterday in many locations. fifty-four in wilmington. six # in wildwood. sustained winds of 13 miles an hour through the northwest in philadelphia gusts are higher in some locations. couple areas with the wind gusts already in wilmington 24 miles an hour win gusts in the poconos. 30 miles an hour in wildwood. over 20 miles an hour worth of wind gusts and they will get

stronger as day goes on. our temperatures today getting by noon 63 degrees. by 3:00 p.m. 65 degrees. the sunshine will be here. we're not antis pacing precipitation but just wind. we have halloween forecast on the seven day forecast and also a day, that boy i hope you have a day off that day. ill will's show you that day coming up, nicole. >> carol, thank you. new this morning police are investigating an overnight crash that sent two people to the hospital. officers responded to the accident scene around midnight on the 3500 block of east crown avenue in northeast philadelphia. authorities say that two people were trapped after their car hit a park car. police tell "eyewitness news" one person remains in critical condition. well, seven people are displayed this morning after an overnight fire in north philadelphia. fire fighters responded to the scene on the 5,000 block of d street just before 4:00 a.m. red cross is working to help the adults and three children displaced all while

fire investigators spark those flames. new guidelines will soon take effect to fight the spread of ebola a here in the united states. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live with more on those changes, good morning to you, syma. >> reporter: good morning, nicole. pennsylvania health officials will begin to monitor travelers from three west african countries starting tomorrow. they will be actively followed for 21 days to see if they develop ebola. pennsylvania is one of six states around the country set to begin monitoring, people, traveling from one of these west african countries. liberia, new gunie, sierra leon has seen the most cases. passenger must travel will through one of five designated airports, with newark air part and jfk being the the two closest to our region. when this arrive in pennsylvania they will to have check in dale which county or state health officials to see if ebola symptoms develop. hup will be designated as a

treatment center for affect health care workers and in the process of building an air tight isolation unit. anyone who presents symptoms faces a immediate quarantine in new york and in new jersey. that happened todayse hitchcock a nurse with doctors without borders. she was quarantined on friday after returning home from sierra leon with a slight fever. she tested knowingtive for ebola and criticized the process writing in this dallas morning news she said an official quote barked questions at the me like i was a criminal. the this is not a situation would i wish on anyone and i'm scared for those who will follow me. meanwhile in new york city fiance of the doctor diagnosed with the virus was allowed to return home. she had been quarantined after having extensive contract with doctor craig spencer. spend spencer is in the hospital after being diagnosed with ebola earlier this week. although the doctor's fiance was allowed to return home she will remain in quarantine in the harlem apartment that she

shares with the doctor. live from the sat center, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> same, thank you. in their first interviews hospital nurses tell 60 minutes how they held the hand of the dying ebola patient thomas duncan because his family could not. here's a preview of scott pelley a's piece you'lle tonight on cbs-3. >> you said that before you put your protective gear on you gathered yourself together, what were you telling your self. >> i was very frightened, i was, and i just dried my tears, rolled down my sleeves so to speak and went on about my night. >> eric duncan came in the hospital september the 25th with the low grade fever and was sent home, but three days later he was back with the temperature of 103. nurse john mulligan treated duncan in his final hours, in

intensive care. >> by the time, i saw him on october 1st, his nausea and vomiting had pretty much subsided that aspect of it was over. he had a rectal tube in place, he was so weak he could not get up to go anymore. that was to help contain all of tis very vicious body fluid that is we were dealing with. on the first day he didn't say much. you could look in his eyes and tell he just couldn't feel g we of him words of encourage. we let him know that we're here. whatever you need, let us know and we will get it. we held his hand and talked to him and comforted him because his family just could not be there. you cannot take that wrist being with this type of disease of exposing, you know, loved ones as much as you want

service interruption plan will be released if and when the situation changes. meanwhile philadelphia police are looking for two people wantedded in connection to a vital crime in queen village. investigators say a hand and woman approached would the man walking on carpenter street. according to police woman struck the victim with the baseball bat in the chest and man fired two shots at that victim as he tried to get away. the neighbor says police told them that the victim was a suspect in car burglar is in that area and it could have been a form of retaliation. >> he started looking in the cars, trying to break into cars and then he gets attacked. >> police would not confirm the crime was in fact retaliation, they did however tell "eyewitness news" that when 29 suspects approached that victim one of them shouted quote we know what you did before that attack began. well, three people are injured in the serious crash in limerick, montgomery county. suv and car collided on route 422 near lewis road.

crash caused all four lanes to be shut down on saturday evening. a helicopter transported one of the victims to the hospital. the cause of the crash is still being investigated. an apartment fire displaced 17 people in philadelphia tioga nicetown neighborhood. flames tore through the the building on the 3800 block of north 15th street saturday afternoon. "eyewitness news" was there as fire officials worked to determine the cause of that fire, there were no injuries and the red cross ace cyst continuing displaced residents. philadelphia police arrested a man in the wheelchair whom they say stole money from a donation jar at a wawa store. incident happened near delaware and tasker in south philadelphia saturday morning. there is in word on how much money was in that jar or if it was all recovered. well, police in merriesville washington say though don't know why a freshman opened fire on his teenage friend and family members at school on friday. shooting left a student and shooter dead all while four others cling to life. danielle nottingham reports.

>> reporter: a steady stream of students, placed flowers and balloons on the fence outside merriesville pillchuck high school saturday following friday's deadly shooting. >> it is bringing us all together. we are all supporting each other because we know how tough it is. how scary it was. >> reporter: witnesses say jaylen fryberg walk in the school cafeteria and shot at people he knew. one girl died, four other student were seriously wounded. family members say two of the victim's boys were popular freshman's cousins. >> they all went to the prom together. they all got pictures together last saturday. they did everything. went to dinner. god knows what escalated it. >> reporter: just a week ago fryberg was home coming prince. he fatally shot himself. they recovered a 40 caliber hand gun. authorities are still working on the the motive but one student told investigators that fryberg had recently gotten into a fight with another boy over a girl. classmates admit they are still in shock. >> it feels like it is not

real, not our school any more. >> reporter: all sports and activities at the high school are canceled this weekend and there will be no classes here next week. police cleared the crime scene on saturday, students were allowed to return on retrieve their items they dropped when they ran away as the gun fire started. in marisville washington danielle nottingham for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". now an up day foreman hunt of suspect trooper killer eric frein. police determine that the car stolen from the poconos and found in new york is the not linked to frein. pennsylvania state police have been searching for frein since an ambush outside their barracks in blooming grove on september 12th. shooting left one state trooper dead and another wounded. it is 6:11. brutal attack is caught on camera, and now police are asking the public for their help finding the suspect. the plus we're hearing from the elderry beating victim, that is next. also, it is getting closer, officials are keeping a close eye on the laugh flow

followed him into his apartment complex and demanded money. even after the victim gave the suspect a to dollars, the mandy mannedded more. >> push, hit, and he is stronger than me. he hit me. then i fall down. >> just hate to see. that suspect took victim's bag and ran away. eighty-eight year-old says his injuries have healed and he hopes someone recognizes his attacker and calls police. the pentagon says a marine who died in baghdad is second u.s. military death associated with the campaign against isis. nineteen year-old lance corporal sean neil of riverside died in the non-combat incident. pentagon says that it is still investigating. the meantime fighting continues between kurdish militia and islamic militants in the the northern syria city, near the turkish border. earlier this week u.s. central command says its forces conduct more than 135 air strikes, all around that

region. more cars could be joining the already long list of recalls, over exploding air bags, nearly 8 million vehicle currently under recall has been concentrated in warmer states but there is increasing pressure to expand the recall nationwide. at least four deaths and numerous injuries are link to air bag parts that didn't expand properly in an accident or even exploded. japanese parts maker takata a manufacturer of the defective air bags we have posted a complete list on our web site at cbs philly.com and click on consumer. volcanic lava that is continues to slowly make its way towards a small hawaii community, this is frightening. the lava flow is less than a football field away near a major road, near this town, geologist estimate it is moving 30 feet an hour and so far no mandatory evacuations have been ordered but officials say some homes could be threatened by tuesday. so, some bad news for those resident, that is not

wilmington and 29 miles an hour wind in the poconos. i think shall will be getting on to that map as we go on throughout day with the wind gusts. temperatures in the middle 60's, yesterday was just perfect, 70 degrees, looked absolutely gorgeous. the mostly sunny skies today, high pressure builds in. we will do the same thing tomorrow. 65 degrees. then we will warm up. i have been talking endlessly it seems, even to me, about the wind. lets put a clock on some of these wind speeds. by 2:00 o'clock computer models say right around 30 miles an hour win gustness a lot of locations, 22 miles an hour through philadelphia, about 6:00 o'clock tonight as these wind do start to come down. now as far as precipitation, really, no reason to stop any of this. we've got great looking weather coming up over the next couple of days. i think wednesday is the only day we will start to pick up maybe a chance of a shower. so, today, 65, 66, 68 in the poconos. windy in every single location as that sun comes up, all the

lets get a check of that forecast and pretty warm, yesterday, carol and this morning nice coming in too. >> it was great, yesterday was 70. we have already seen 60 degrees this morning, it dropped 1 degree, nicole down to 59 through center city but that is a warm start this time of the year when normal temperature in the morning would be 45 degrees. it is beautiful out there though, we have got ocean city, looking quiet, dark, but it will wake up, windy day at the shore and every other location as well. let's head out to the palmyra cove nature park, i have a time lapse there and you can sea water moving around and the dwindling lights in the city, 58 degrees. this is a very pleasant start to the day. storm scan three has in problem at all for us, there are a few showers in new york but around here, nothing. notice the wind. we have winds northwest now in just about every location or at least the west, 12 miles an hour through the poconos, 13 miles an her through philadelphia, and about 12 miles an her through shore

areas, starting tomorrow, the travel others will be actively filed for 21 days to see if they develop ebola. state officials are working on the cdc guidelines while new york and new jersey officials implementedded their own strict restrictions. liberia, new gunie, and sierra leon have seen the most cases of ebola, passengers from those countries must travel through one of five designated airports, newark, liberty and jfk airports are the two closest to our area. anyone who does present symptoms faces an immediate quarantine in new york, and in new jersey. when they arrive in pennsylvania they will have to check in dale which county or state health officials. this follows cdc guidelines but governors of new york and new jersey implemented new rules that go above and beyond what the cdc has recommended. >> we are no longer relying on cdc standards there are now, new york, new jersey

standards. >> we have to do more. it is too serious a situation to leave it to the honor system of compliance. >> under cdc guidelines and humanitarian doctors working in liberia was able to decide on his own whether he should be quarantined. he is now hospitalized after being diagnosed with ebola. now back here in pennsylvania, hup will be designated as a treatment center for infect health care workers and in the process of building an air tight isolation unit. earlier congressional leaders met with health officials and said they are confident the philadelphia region has a tools to contain an out break. live, syma chowdhry, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a nurse nina pham is home and cured from her ebola but she will have to wait a little bit longer to be reunited with her dog. he spoke friday and aid she was looking forward to being with her king charles spaniel bentley. officials say bentley will not be released from quarantine until november 1st.

marriages in six more states. attorney general eric holder made the announcement on saturday. federal benefits are now available for same sex couples in alaska, air zone, idaho, north caroline, west virginia and wyoming. feds have extended benefits now in 32 states, and the district of columbia. new jersey governor chris christie is back in iowa spending sometime with political activist who could prove helpful if the republican runs for president, in 2016. christie head lined governor terry brandstat birthday bash and attended steve king's pheasant hunt lunch. recent polls shows if christie would campaign in iowa he would face a uphill climb. well, it was just a drill will but certainly an important one, "eyewitness news" at philadelphia international airport for an emergency preparedness exercise. the airport tested how they're mergecy crews responded to a simulated mass casualty incident involving airplanes. first responders triaged victims, evaluated their conditions and transported them to area hospitals by

ambulance and helicopter. >> we learned a whole lot from these drills. we take everything from these drills and we analyze them and try to improve on things for the following future report. >> this emergency drill was mandated by federal law and it happens once every three years. volunteers are helping to clean philadelphia schools hit hard by the budget crisis. young people washed tables and did more at martin luther king prom ace contacted my high school in germantown this weekend. they have pick up trash outside school there budget cuts led to a reduction of custodial staff in that district and more school clean ups are plan. district attorney seth williams hosted second annual safety summit for women and children on saturday. "eyewitness news" at the police academy on state road this run benefits families of police officers who were killed or died in the line of duty. proceeds will go to the fraternal order of police lodge number five, survivors fun. one brooklyn math teacher is unlike the rest, get this, she's a hundred years old and spent the last 77 years in the classroom. all to spread passion, for numbers. michelle in miller has her story. >> she climbed to her second store classroom three times a week. she coaches students here at saint evefram's school for regional math bee. >> plus five, 41. >> good. >> the only member that she doesn't take seriously is her age. how old are you, mrs. scotto. >> well, in the 60's i was a hundred. i never think about age.
