♪ >> breaking right now. found alive. a philadelphia family's abduction nightmare comes to an end. carlesha freeland has been rescued. her abductor has been arrested. >> "eyewitness news" broke the story of her rescue. now, the story behind the resc rescue. the man police call a predator and exclusive new video of the gaither family preparing for happy homecoming.

>> she was crying and she just was asking for me. told me she love me. she miss me. come get her. >> what did you say to her? i'm going to get my daughter. >> good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean much this story and the ending many hoped for is making national headlines tonight. carlesha freeland faith they are was found tonight at a house in jessup maryland. that southwest of ab beer dean maryland where the suspect was spotted on surveillance video yo using her atm card. we have team three coverage in two states tonight. it begins with investigative reporter walt hunter who broke this story on "eyewitness news" at 6:00 and walt, you have new information right now. >> reporter: that's right, jess a little before 6:30 tonight, the car bearing police commissioner charles ramsay slipped into the parking lot here the northwest detectives. the commissioner immediately shaking hands smiling with all the detectives. moments later, members of the kidnapped victims family arriving their arms around each other tears in the eyes. the scene set for an inn cell

happy reunion much this one woman was now safe after a 72 hour ordeal and the man accused of kidnapping her was in handcuffs. >> brought my baby home. >> thank you. >> brought her right home. >> reporter: the mother of carlesha gaither hugged detective jim sloan. he had promised i'm bringing your daughter home. and now kidnapped victim karlo is a was safe. her mom speaking to her just moments before. >> first thing i told her was i love her and was she okay? i'm coming to get her. >> reporter: a mid hugs and tears the family learned from investigators that a car with carlesha and suspect delvon barnes inside had been stopped in jessup, maryland. barnes allegedly the suspect who dragged carlesha for a block throwing her into a car in germantown on sunday night. >> so it's very important this has a happy ending. we all need to celebrate. >> i believe that all of our

prayers were answered. >> reporter: police say barnes apparently attacked carlesha at random. the car he allegedly used to kidnap her sunday night the same one in which they were found in maryland. >> when the subject exited the vehicle, he was apprehended and that's when miss freeland was recover. >> reporter: and so the family with many questions about carlesha's 72 hour kidnapping ordeal still unanswered, set off for a reunion at the hospital where she's being examined for minor injuries. but not before along with police they expressed their thoughts about the suspect. >> he's a vicious predator. he's off the streets and hopefully he'll be in jail for the rest of his life. that's the only thing he deserves. >> i hope he ho rot in hell. >> among the most chilling of the unanswered questions where was the suspect headed and what were his ultimate intentions. a frightening thought but a thought that has vanished from

all minds tonight because carlesha is safe. in the words of one detective here, i feel like she was one of my family members. live at northwest detectives, walt hunter cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thank you very much. this is "eyewitness news" exclusive video of the family of carlesha freeland gaither getting into an suv at northwest detectives tonight. they are on the road right now heading to maryland. they'll reunite with carlesha at the hospital where she is being treated. that hospital is howard county general. it is in columbia, maryland. and that is where our diana rocco continues our live team coverage. diana? >> reporter: and chris, carlesha was found late this afternoon not too far from here. we are told she is now resting in a hospital room here at howard county general hospital. she's anxiously awaiting the arrival of her family and talking to detectives. hospital officials tell us tonight that carlesha is in good condition. her family is expected to be

here within the hour. she was found by the atf acting on a tip this afternoon. they approached a car that ford taurus investigators had been looking for in jessup, maryland. they saw a male and female in the back seat. and as it looked like that male was about to drive away, they moved in and were able to apprehend the suspect. carlesha immediately identified herself as the missing girl from pennsylvania. >> woman was very relieved that law enforcement was on scene, and once she had the time to process what had occurred you could tell she was emotionally diss straw. as a result we took her immediately to the hospital. >> reporter: and that is where she has been for the last several hours getting looked over and talking to detectives. again, carlesha anxiously awaiting the arrival of her family. she was able to speak with her mother on the phone for a few minutes shortly after she was brought here to the hospital. we're live in columbia,

maryland, tonight, i'm diana rocco cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> happy reunion. diana thank you our team coverage continues with more on the suspect. delvon barnes. we're digging deeper into his background. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is at northwest.coms tonight. has more on this as spec. steve? >> reporter: jessica as we were talking to one of the gaither family about delvon barnes and his extensive criminal history he expressed to us he was surprised the guy was on the street in the first play. we did a little more digging into that history tonight. 37 year old delvon barnes has extensive criminal history. he was arrested back in 2005 on charges of false imprisonment, aggravated assault, burglary and wreck less endangerment. he is currently being held on a bench warrant out of charles city council tee, virginia for allegedly capital attempted murder. we spoke to the police commissioner and the fbi on what he faces next. >> he's being currently held on

a warrant based out of the charles city council tee virginia sheriffs office for attempted capital murder, assault, malicious injury with acid, explosives or fire. this was from a previous case that he was being investigated for. so he will then be charged federally with the crimes here in philadelphia. >> don't know other than the fact he's a thug and this is what he does apparently. so the people like this don't necessarily -- there's nothing that makes sense. don't try to fine it. >> you heard him describe that attack. we are learning tonight much more about the charles city council tee attack. we're hearing this was a 16 year old girl. confirmed by police that she was missing around october 1st in virginia. that she was later found with burns and smelling of bleach and gasoline. well, police would later link barnes' dna to that case. and of course, there's now much more to learn about his criminal

history in this case here in philadelphia. for now we're live in northwest detectives, i'm steve patterson cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> well investigators have made clear that the key to cracking this case was surveillance vid video. the first and most horrifying, of course, showed the actual abduction on sunday night in germantown. then, the next morning, this man was caught on camera at an atm in ab brrr dean, maryland using carleshcarlesha's bank card. this one from a gas station and convenience store showing that person of interest much this footage also coming from aberdeen, married. just today, we saw this. footage from a grocery store along the roosevelt boulevard in philadelphia. this was shot just eight hours before the attack and near the scene of the crimes much these clips allowed police to identify their suspect and eventually track down his car with carlesha

overnight. for your monday morning we do expect periods of rain. some ponding on area roads where we see the heavier rain and temperatures crawling into the 50s during the morning and of course that mobile weather lab will be out to guide you for the morning commute. in the wake of that, a blast of cold comes our way. coming up we'll talk more about that and its impact on our weather as we head toward the weekend. >> jessica. >> kathy, thanks. long-time football coach of haverford high school in delaware county will not be on the side lines with his team friday night. prosecutors charged joe gallagher with dui, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. he's been the head football coach at haverford for 23 years much police say gallagher was involved in a hit-and-run crash at lincoln and fourth of as in prospect park saturday. school officials released a statement saying in part "joe gallagher has taken leave of absence for personal reasons". >> new at 11:00 o'clock tonight, burglars are back on the prowl in a burlington county town.

they have been targeting homes in moorestown. despite the increased presence of police there. latest burglary happened today on paul drive. two other homes about a mile apart were broken into win the last week the first in the 600 block of south saratoga drive. the other in the 200 block of country club drive. the thieves got away with watches and jewelry. >> large upscale residences. entry is being made by different means of force. >> really think stuff like that is going on but it is a little more than you know about it. a little nerve racking. >> moorestown officials tell us they plan to schedule a town hall meeting about the crimes soon. new tonight a very special welcome home for a member of the air national garr. the inform fl initially suspended the running back for two games after he was accused of of punching his wife inside an atlantic city elevator. that suspension was extended after a video of the punching surfaced. >> former baltimore ravens cheerleader is accused of sexually abusing a 15 year old boy at a vacation home in sussex county, delaware. molly shad dock make became the inform fl oldest cheerleader when she made the squad at the age of 38. now investigators say that on labor day weekend the now 47 year old woman and that teenager vacationed together in bethenny beach. she's also accused of of providing alcohol to teenagers. >> one in six american women and one in 19 men have experienced stalking at some point in their lives. the digital age many stalkers can track their victims almost anywhere they go with terrifying consequences. >> how do you plead, guilty or

helped rachel get a protection from abuse order and even asked his clients to sign a form urging them to disable social media. >> i've seen it increase 10 fold over the past couple of years. >> getting off social media isn't always enough to stop a stalker. one in four stalking victims report being harassed by e-mail or instant messaging. 10% report being tracked by gps. >> what were you afraid of? >> my life. constantly looking over your shoulder. >> decades ago renee' norris jones was a victim of domestic violence. she now volunteers for women against abuse. she says phone apps designed for couples to share information are dangerous. >> there's acute little app. um, you know, you can keep track of your loved ones and where they go and i'm watching this horrified going oh, my god, this is scary. >> other tracking apps are designed to be hidden so a victim can't find them. rachel says the stalking changed her life. >> i moved across the street from a police station, you know, my first apartment after we

split. >> facebook will never be a safe place for her. now she uses a different name. >> i act like i'm married. i never post or check in anywhere. i don't really go anywhere alone ever. >> if you're a stalking victim here's what experts suggest you do. first, disable your social media accounts. then check if your phone has been compromised and be sure to turn off location services. you may want to consider getting a new phone and a new phone number keep the old one to capture voice males and any threatening techs. >> the rain has arrived across part of the delaware valley and our "eyewitness weather" watchers are keeping us informed. want to thank all of them for reporting in this evening. let's take look at the south of philadelphia. 52 degrees in newark delaware and? and says, the wind is calm but the rain has started. it will continue, john, right through the morning hours. 56 degrees right now in aston, pa bruce says we're looking at light rain showers in delaware county this evening and that is spreading toward the north and

extra time. 56 right now in philadelphia. 51 in trenton. 53 in millville. 45 in the pock notice and also in allentown. and much coop cooler air to the north and west. this eventually will be moving toward the delaware valley. we're watching this frontal boundary sneak towards philadelphia. so the rain begins showery and will continue to intensify toward the morning as this area of low pressure rides along that front and then we'll see the rain slowly moving out. after 5:00 p.m. it pushes toward the northeast. secondary low that provides cold air goes well to the northeast. they see some snow in new england. we will be drying out by friday we're just talking about some windy conditions and we will be seeing some sunshine. so here's future wet. you can see during the overnight, the heavier rain moves in. for the morning commute it's sticking around, and then after about the noon hour, it becomes a little bit more fragmented and it will be moving out by the din are in hour with a few scattered showers tomorrow night. here's a look at the bottom li line. tomorrow periods of rain between
