support by strangers who say they had to do something. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. so many were left shocked by the gruesome details surrounding the death of three year old scotty mcmillan and as a community continues to remember scotty, they're also honoring his brother, ryan. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is live in downingtown with the story. steve. >> reporter: natasha, there aren't. ways to say it. the community near chester county close to the story of ryan and scotty mcmillan is damaged. today we met a woman who says she is trying to change that. looking for a way to heel. >> it really has torn the community up. >> reporter: if you live in chester county at the very least you've probably heard the story of scotty and ryan mcmillan. for some here, it's paralyzing. >> the whole story has been like heart wrenching the last couple days i think for the whole community. >> reporter: prosecutors say the boys were victims in a series of horrifying beatings and torture sessions at the

hands of their own mother and her boyfriend. three year old scotty died. six-year-old ryan is now staying with an aunt. >> my husband and i have just been thinking about we wish we could do something so when we heard about this, you know, we jumped on the opportunity. >> reporter: opportunity came sunday in the form of a flatbed truck. >> i immediately probably startd to tear up. organizer janice baker self described motorcycle mom with the infamous riders of chester county got her boys off the road and in a police station parking lot collecting donations for ryan. >> they got together with me and helped post everything online and really just brought a lost people here day. baker estimates they've collected close to $2,000 in cash. as for the flat he bed it's filled. necessities will go to the family immediating, toys will be held so ryan can have christmas. >> as a community we love him and we're so sorry of what he witnessed and what he had to go through. >> reporter: it may be small against the grief ryan and his family now face but donors say

janice is giving a chance at hope and for this community, a way to heel. >> it's amazing. it's the best feeling ever. i mean, it's the best way you could spend sunday. it's perfect. >> reporter: the mother, jillian tait and her boyfriend gary fellenbaum both face charges of first degree murder. there is a preliminary hearing scheduled for this friday. we're live in chester county, i'm steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> steve, thank you so much. well, turning to our weather now, prepare yourself for a bit of a rollercoaster ride of temperatures. it's going to get unseasonably warm before the bottom falls out. it was hard for me to get that out. meteorologist justin drabick joining us to talk about the ups and counts week. i think that's why it was so hard justin. i'm thinking about the downs already. >> i understand. it is a tough forecast. it's so typical around this area this time of year and today actually ditch that heavier coat this afternoon if you were outside. it wasn't bad in the sunshine. look at that.

temperatures, these were our highs, mid and upper 50's. that's pretty much where we should be for this time of year. we're going to warm it up over the next few days. wait until you see tuesday's temperature. right now somewhat comfortable, 54 degrees officially at the airport in philadelphia, tra it in allentown, line in reading. some of the suburbs cooling down nicely. quakertown 41 degrees this hour. mid 40's in mount holly. northeast philly hanging onto 50 degrees. generally a clear sky. there's some high thin clouds especially to the south and east but overall our temperatures are going to be able to drop tonight. nothing terribly cold. we should make it down into the lower 40's for center city, some 30's in the suburbs but look at tomorrow. really nice day. looks like we should break the low 60 for philadelphia, near 60's at the shore. now, coming up in the full forecast we'll talk about a quiet weather pattern, how long to lasts and then, yes, temperatures do return to the forecast. natasha. >> thank you justin. two people are critically

injured after after an alleged family dispute on summit avenue in paoli last night. he told officers he was shot by a familiar member. john richard we are right. police found berry outside of a another house just down the street. we spoke to one neighbor who saw the whole thing from her window. >> that was the first time i heard the pow, pow, pow. i saw a gentleman walking up the street in the process of this shooting incident and i thought that was kind of weird, so i got back on the phone and i called 911 again because i saw the gentleman standing on the porch and that freaked me out. >> as officers a approached berry he turned the gun on himself. he and the victim were rushed to paoli hospital. now philadelphia police are looking for leads after a homicide in hunting park. a woman was found shot to death on the 1600 block of rowan street last night. she hasn't been identified just yet but it's believed she

was about 30-year-old. so far investigator its don't have many details at all on a suspect or a motive in this case. a philadelphia police officer is recovering tonight after his cruiser collides with a pickup truck and bursts into flames. take a look there. that was the scene just after 6 o'clock last night at 28th and tasker in south philadelphia. an eyewitness had to pull the 17th district officer from that police car. investigators now say there was only one person in the other vehicle, the driver. he suffered head trauma and is currently in stable condition. no charges are expected to be filed. the investigation continues into what sparked this fire at south jersey mowers in maple shade, new jersey. the building was destroyed. the owner, who lives upstairs, awoke to these flames just after 4 o'clock saturday morning. she was rushed from the 600 block of styles avenue to the hospital. she suffered smoke inhalation and throat burns as well. veterans day isn't until

tuesday. many communities is celebrating early. service medals were a wardd to colonel jerome heath, dominic vesper senior on john wilson today. the ceremony took place on veterans elfland cooper river park, a fitting honor for those who fought to keep us safe. walkers and runners all ages, they placed up their sneak stories raise money for the alex's lemonade foundation today. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhury tells us how each step is helping to combat pediatric cancer. >> reporter: a beautiful day for a run for beautiful cause. sixth annual lemon run benefiting alex's lemonade stand kicked off sunday morning in fairmount park. about 2,500 people participated. >> great family event. we have a kid's dash for younger kids where they do a 100-yard race an lost families run and walk together. >> reporter: liz scott is the co-executive director of the organization better known as alex's mom.

alex was diagnosed with cancer before her first birthday. she died at the age of eight in 2004 leaving behind a legacy. >> alex started this organization basicly in our front yard at the lemonade stand and all she wantd to do was make a difference for kids with cancer. >> what we've learned from this is that there's a great support system and they're here for us and it's made a big difference. >> reporter: the berwyn family lost their eldest son a rare form of brain cancer. they participate no raise awareness and fundy funds. >> you do it for all the kids that can't do it i'm fortunate enough that i can and it's easier to take that kind of thing for granted. >> reporter: karen fitzgerald is the mother of a cancer survivor and says it's important to pay it forward. >> it's happening to so many other families and just to come back and really share that experience with folks and just really unite together to give back to a fantastic cause like alex's lemonade. >> reporter: the let me ron run raises about $150,000 and that money goes towards

the 138 people who died along the wall. and here at home, the german society pennsylvania marks the anniversary. they unveiled an original piece of the berlin wall in their garden on spring garden street in philadelphia. it's one of the last available pieces the german government recently gave them as part of the german society's 250th anniversary. now, americans held hostage in north korea have been reunited with their families. officials say nothing was given to north korea in exchange for their release. matthew miller and kenneth bay touched down last night. miller was charged with espionage after ripping up his tourist visa and then demanding asylum. bay was arrested two years ago while lead ago tour group. >> thank you all for supporting me, lifting me up and not forgetting me. and i'm staying strong because of you.

>> bae said he hoped other prisoners in north korea will not be forgotten. and president barack obama meantime says that he intends to issue an executive order that would ease the threat against deportation for illegal immigrants. the president talked about it this morning on cbs's face the nation. >> i'd prefer and still prefer to see it done through congress, but every day that i wait, we're miss allocating resources, we're deporting people that shouldn't be deported, we're not deporting folks that are dangerous and need to be deported. >> president obama says if congress does act it would take the place of whatever he puts into place by his own authority. incoming senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and house speaker john bane nor both warned against the president taking action in their post election news conferences. now a flash of light in the sky has people talking in texas wondering what it is and it was all caught on tape by a police officer's dash cam. it's believed to be a meteor that was spotted last night streaking over central texas.

several witnesses say it was a blue-green color and had an orange tail. just last monday a meteor was spotted over parts of the east coast including pennsylvania. >> all right, good sunday evening. hope your weekend is treating you well. temperature-wise today really not that bad, upper 50's, right near average for this time of year. let's check out what's happening in some of the neighborhoods. look what our weather watchers are showing you. we'll take you to the northwest suburbs of philadelphia, shanksville dug checks in at 42 degrees. south jersey and the shore pretty mild still looking at 52 degrees as james checks in from ocean city, new jersey. he's got a comment for us. not much sun but still quite nice day in ocean city. absolute no wind. any day is good at the beach no matter what kind of weather you're dealing with. little bit closer to philadelphia we'll check in with peter from williams town, he's got 44 degrees also. he sent in in a picture of the sunset.

pretty cool shot peter. got the high thin cirrus clouds with a nice sunset across the delaware valley. if you want to be part of "eyewitness news" sign up and be an eyewitness weather watcher and send us all your weather information. check it out cbsphilly.com/watchers. across the delaware valley very quiet with clear skies over center city. still some clouds to the south and west but we'll keep it dry overnight. here's the big story this week. the temperature trend is going to be all over the place. we're actually on the uphill climb now. average high temperature should be at 58 degrees. we're going to be slightly above average on monday. tuesday and wednesday well above average into the mid 60's especially for veterans day but then watch what happens at the end of the week. well below average as we'll see some arctic air trying to build into the delaware valley. 54 degrees at the airport now. 51 trenton. 38 chilly degrees in mount pocono but we zoom out, there's nothing terribly cold so no signs of cold air just yet. we're going to have wait until the end of the week if you're looking for the colder temperatures.

pretty quiet on storm scan3, little area of high pressure to our south keeping the skies mainly clear. some showers and clouds well off shore will keep it dry pretty much for the next few days so we're setting up to see a dry quiet weather pattern. at the end of the week we get a cold front coming through wednesday. that front should come through dry. behind it it's got cold air. we're 23409 going to see the core of the oldest air. that's going to hang back out across the northern plains but temperatures go a good 10 degrees below average by the end of the week. high pressure over us for monday, low 60's for highs. enjoy it. plenty of sunshine. even milder tuesday, veterans day, plenty of sunshine, mid 60's. go a good five, maybe even 10 degrees above avenue flood watch some spots. here's that front i was talking about that comes through wednesday. could come through dry, maybe a few clouds. early in the day we should reach our highs in the low 60's but it's thursday you'll start to feel the difference as far as the temperatures go. a lot out of sunshine tomorrow. same deal tuesday, maybe a few fair weather clouds. overall it's just a warm day. wednesday that front will move on through, we'll clear things

out behind it and then we'll start to surge in that colder air f you're looking for warmer temperatures you'll enjoy the next few daims upper 50's to around 60 for the afternoon highs on monday. monday evening not too bad for the eagles game, temperature in the lower to mid-50's for kickoff. tuesday look at that, mid 60's for the high temperatures tuesday afternoon. so, overnight just a few clouds around. it will be chilly, 42 for the low for center city. some 30's in the suburbs. mild day monday, mostly sunny, we're up to 61 degrees, south breeze at 10 miles per hour. i mentioned monday night game, eagles 8:30 kickoff, 53, not bad there. you'll need the heavier coat by the end of the game at least it stays dry. mid 60's tuesday. wednesday we'll get to the lower 60's with that front coming through and then the wind kicks up and we usher in colder air. 40's return only for the highs. thursday, friday and saturday could be a rain or snow shower late thursday night and we could be dealing with rain showers later on sunday night. next saturday november 15th

sustaining drives. >> how about those cowboys taking on the jags across the pond in london. tony romo back in the lineup after missing last week with a back injury. he was in regular season form. first quarter to witten for a touchdown. romo completed 20 of 27 passes for 246 yards, three touchdown. cowboys rolled to a 31-17 victory and head into the bye with a 713 record. former eagles quarterback michael vick in his second start for the jets as they took on ben roethlisberger and the steelers. he threw two touchdown passes. the jets forced four turnovers ending that eight game losing streak with a 20-13 victory. the sixers start a four game road trip tonight in toronto, one of two teams in the league without a win. nerlens noel will miss his second straight game with a sprained ankle. last night flyers taking on colorado. luke schenn gets can checked into the board, goes down left the game. he'll be out two weeks with a shoulder injury.

the first two periods flyers played a strong game claude giroux scoring twice. they had four-nothing lead going into the third period then held on for dear life, the flyers escaped with a four-three win. last night in atlantic city bernhardt hopkins fought sergei kovalev. kovalev dropped bernard with a right hand got up but that was a sign of things to come. kovalev pressured hopkins. bernard lost a unanimous decision and said after the fight got to be thinking about his future in the ring. coming up tonight in the zone with sports director beasley reece a preview of the monday night matchup with jack mccar free and sam carchidi after the late news right here on cbs3.
