♪ >> breaking right now at 11:00 o'clock, a car plows into the second story of this delaware home leaving a gaping hole an homeowner left to pick up the pieces. good evening, everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining. >> the driver was rushed to christiana hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. authorities are trying to figure out what caused that person to lose control of the car and slam into the home in hoe says kin new castle county, delaware. that's where "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers picks up this breaking story.

>> reporter: the car went fast enough to when it hit this parked truck, it went airborne flying into the second story of this hokessin, delaware, home. >> total shock. i mean this is not something you see every day. but, um, we at first thought perhaps a tree had fallen. >> reporter: that home belongs to linda, she was and side with one of her children when it happened bought both are okay. they were safely on the other side of the house when the mitts about she sedan burst through her wall. apparently not an easy thing to do. >> a nice strong structure. this is not a modern construction. >> reporter: just up the street from linda's house you can it first went wrong. the car laid tracks it went off the road heading straight toward the home the resulting crash echoed across the quiet neighbor. john anderson's wife heard it. >> she thought we had a thunderstorm when she heard the crash report roar the 27 year old driver was taken to the hospital and will likely be ok okay. police haven't said what caused the crash yet. but neighbors say people regularly ignore the speed

limits. >> it's 35 miles an hour and they're running through around 50, 55. >> reporter: whether speed played a role will be decided later. sunday night linda's house had to be cut open the oil hole made wider to drag out the car inside but as bad as it looks linda says it could have been far worse. >> lucky. um, lucky, yes. overwhelmed. this is not how i planned to start my week. >> reporter: and there is a live picture of what that second story wed room looks like right now. the scene all but wrapped up here in delaware. there is a structural engineer inside the house right now trying to determine when and if it is safe for the family to go back inside. but when they do, they certainly face a long clean up process ahead of them. we're live in hokessin, delaware torque night matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> matt, thank you very much. also, some new video coming in tonight of another bad crash. this one in mt. laurel, new jersey. police tell us "eyewitness news"

one person was thrown from the car and then became pinned underneath it. res cures worked quick toll try the free the victim from the wreckage. no word on that person' condition just yet. >> more breaking news tonight. a plain crash in the bahamas kills all nine people on board. the lear 36 executive jet left nassau and was trying to land at grand bahama international airport. this happened about 5:00 p.m. local time. now the cause of the crash is still unknown. and no word yet on the identities of all of those on board. now we're turning to weather tonight. it's going to be a week of big changes. first there's a warmup coming and then temperatures take a drastic plunge. meteorologist justin drabick joining us now with a first forecast. justin. >> natasha, that's right. temperatures are going to be all over the place this upcoming week. something for everyone if you like warmer temperatures you'll like the next few days. you can feel the difference today. we did make it up to the upper 50s for highs but setting up to see a chilly night. already seeing mid 30s showing up across the region.

allentown 34 degrees. lower 40s for philadelphia and millville. 44 in wilmington this hour. we have clear skies. so all the heat we had today is easily escaped right back into the atmosphere so that's why we're cooling off nicely in the suburb. quakertown sitting at freezing this hour. 36 in doylestown. compare these temperatures to this time yesterday we are colder. from 1 degree to 10 degrees colder especially up in the lehigh valley. yes, last night we had clouds. tonight clear skies. not much happening on storm scan3. we had high thin clouds over new jersey earlier this evening. they shivved offshore. now what you wake up to tomorrow morning on the cool side 40 for center city. many suburb in the theirs nice rebound a lost sunshine tomorrow afternoon. we may get into the low 60s. near 60 at the shore. lower 50s in the poconos. temperatures will take a hit bite end of the week. we'll show you what to expect in the seven day in a few more minutes. natasha. >> thank you very much, justin. stay one step ahead of the forecast by downloading the

cbs-3 weather app it's available on i tunes and google play. authorities in chester county they say a family dispute ended in gunfire late last nig night. police arrived at a home on summit avenue in paoli and that's where they found a victim who said he was shot by a family member john richard barry. the officer's eventually tracked down barry to house writ down the street. we spoke to one neighbor who was one of the first to call 911. >> that was the first time i heard the pow, pow, pow. um, i saw a gentleman walking up the street in the process of this shooting incident and i thought that was kind of weird. so i got back on the phone and i called 911 again because i saw the gentleman stand on the porch and that freaked me out. >> as officers approached barry he turned the gun on himself. he and the victim were rushed to the paoli hospital in critical condition. a lot of unanswered questions after a homicide in the hunting park section of philadelphia. a woman was shot to death on the

1600 block of rowan street. police don't have much to go on at this point but they do believe the victim was about 30 years old. so far no details on shoot or a motive in this case. and it was a horrific crime. it certainly shocked an entire community as well as folks around the country. two boys fall victim abuse. one of those boys scotty mcmillan did not survive. but tonight we see an outpouring of support by complete strangers who felt they needed to something. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has more. >> reporter: looking for a way to heal. >> really has torn the community up. >> reporter: if you live in chester county at the very least you've probably heard this story of scotty and ryan mcmillan. for some here it's paralyzing. >> the whole story has been like heart wrenching the last couple of days. i think for the whole community. >> reporter: prosecutors say the boys were victims in a series of horrifying beatings and torture sessions at the hands of their own mother and her boyfriend. three year old scotty died.

six year old ryan is now staying with an aunt. >> my husband and i have been thinking about we wish we could do something so when we heard about this, we jumped on the opportunity. >> reporter: opportunity came sunday in the form of a flatbed truck. >> i immediately start to tear up. we need to do something. >> reporter: organizers janice baker self described motorcycle mom witness infamous riders of chester county got her boys off the road and in a police station parking lot collecting donations for ryan. >> they got together with me and helped post everything online and really just brought a lot of people here today. >> reporter: baker estimates they've collected close to $2,000 in cash as for the flatbed it's filled. necessary are the will go to the family immediately. toys will be held so ryan can have christmas. >> as community we love him and we're so sorry of what he witnessed want he had to go through. >> reporter: it may be small against the grief ryan and his family now face, but donors saying janice is giving a chance

at hope and for this community a way to heal. >> it's amazing. it's the best feeling ever. it's the best way you can spend sunday. it's perfect. >> reporter: the mother jillian tate and her boyfriend gary fellenbaum face charges of first degree murder. there's a preliminary maryland scheduled for friday. i'm steve patterson cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> well the suspect meantime in the abduction of carlesha fre freeland gaither could be in philadelphia as early as tomorrow to face charges. authorities say delvin barnes snatched 22 year old woman off ager money town street last sunday night. atf agents found them in jess cup maryland in wednesday. he's currently on bars in virginia where he's facing attempted murder charges in another case. officials say he's currently on suicide watch. a philadelphia police officer is recovering tonight after his cruiser collides with a pickup truck and then bursts into flames. this was the fiery scene last night at 28th and tasker in

south philly. an eyewitness had to pull the 17th diss track police officer from the police car just moments before it erupt flood flames. now, investigators say there was only one person in the other vehicle. the driver. he suffered head trauma and is in stable condition. no charges are expected to be filed. >> officials still have not determined what sparked this fire at a south jersey business. south jersey mowers in maple shade, inform of the the building was destroyed. the owner who lives upstairs awoke to flames just after 4:00 o'clock saturday morning. she was rush from the 600 block of stiles avenue to the hospital. she suffered smoke inhalation and throat burns as well. >> stay with us. still ahead on "eyewitness news" tonight a flash of light across the sky. so what was it? we'll have more on this fire ball that has a lot of folks asking a lot of questions plus knew information on the release of two americans imprisoned in north korea. tonight we're hearing from one of the men who is now finally back home.

north korea detained him in 2012 and sentenced him to 15 years of hard labor for alleged anti government activities. bae was leading a tour group when he was arrested. >> it's been amazing two years. i learn a lot. i grew a lot. lost a weight in a good way. miller of bakersfield, california was arrested in april after allegedly tearing up his us passport and demanding asyl asylum. north korea accused him of spying and sentenced gnome six years of hard labor. national director of intelligence james clapper accompanied the men back to the states. us officials say clapper's role was only to gain the prisoner release release north korea and dictator received nothing in return. >> they're looking for attenti attention. they obviously wanted to have a big international press coverage of this event. it's the most isolated state in the world. >> reporter: three weeks ago north korea released 56 year old jeffrey foul of ohio arrested in may after intentionally leaving

a bible at a sailors club. in new york, jericka duncan for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> well president barack obama meantime he says he intends to issue an executive order that would he's the the threat against deportation for illegal immigrants. the president talked about it this morning on cbs's face the nation. i prefer and still prefer to see it done through congress, but every day that i wait, we're miss allocating resources. we're deporting people that shouldn't be deported. we're not deported folks that are dangerous and need to be deport. >> president obama says if congress does act it would take the place of whatever he puts in to place by his own authority. incoming senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and john boehner both warned against the president taking action in their post election news conferences. >> now a flash of light in the sky has a lot of people in texas talking and all of it was captured on tape. take look here. it was captured by a police officer's dash cam video. it's believed to be a meteor

that was spotted last night streaking over central texas. several witnesses say it was a blue green color and it also had an orange tale. just last monday meteor was spotted over parts of the east coast including pennsylvania. also take a look at this lava. the molten rock is slowly smoldering across parts of the hawaii' big island and burning anything that gets in its path. but there is some good news for the people living near the bubbling lava. it hasn't moved much in the past 10 days. however, officials warn the volcano is still active which means it could pick up speed. that certainly hot scene in hawaii and it's a chilly scene here in the delaware valley. we'll check in with our weather watchers this hour and we're already talking about low 30s in some spots even some 20s, starting to hear reports of some frost as well but let's head out to coatesville where jeff wilson checks in with 35 degrees already. he's got the clear skies.

well above average tuesday and wednesday. but the end of the week thursday and friday, cold weather fans you'll like that. temperatures a good 10 degrees below average. 42 is where we are right now at the airport in philadelphia. 34 in millville right now. 38 degrees in reading so we have clear skies over us. pretty chilly but farther to the west and southwest milder. so that's sign of some warmer air that will continue to push in over the next 24 hours. some clouds and even some rain showers out across the great lakes and snow showers upper midwest that's actually the leading edge of the cold air that will be arriving later on this week. for us it's high pressure, keeping our skies mainly clear for the next few days. enjoy tomorrow. get outside if you can. mostly sunny, low 60s for the highs. even warmer for veterans day. mid 60s for the afternoon temperatures. a lot of sunshine around. here comes the change. it's a cold front it will start to arrive on wednesday. this front should come through dry. just expect a few clouds around especially early wednesday. still mild, he that. a transition day. low 60s. it will turn windy and then that

wind will start to bring in colder air. check out the blues and purples much that's where the real cold air is. that's not here yet. tuesday that's really our warmest day. you can see a lot of yellows and greens showing up. notice the progression of that colder air moves eastward bite end of the week. we won't be seeing the coldest air over the next few days that stays lock up over the upper midwest northern planes for us we're talking about highs in the 40s which is 10 degrees below average. monday though a lot of sunshine. get up to about 60 degrees near average. maybe few clouds around on tuesday. overall it's a nice day. here comes the front early on wednesday. we'll see increasing sunshine through wednesday afternoon. let's talk temperatures. a chilly start for your monday morning. nice finish to the day. upper 50s to around 60 degrees. set up nice conditions for the monday night football game tomorrow and then tuesday afternoon look at that. mid 60s. so for the rest of tonight we'll drop to 40 for center city. already seeing the 30s in the suburbs. so it will be chilly. nice rebound monday. a lot of sunshine, mild, 61 degrees for the high

>> welcome back. legacy continues for alex scott the little girl who sold lemonade to raise money to battle pediatric cancer. today it was the sixth annual lemon run in fairmount park benefiting alex's lemonade stand. 2500 people turned out. many have children battling cancer. others run in the name of those they loved and lost. >> he just needed something to bring to life the importance of research and dollars for pediatrics cancer. >> we primarily fund research. we have do have family support programprograms the biggest parf what we do is try to find cures for kids. >> if you couldn't make it to the run but still want to help we've set up a link for you just go to our website cbsphilly.com. and now the closing ceremonies for the special olympics were held today inside the pavilion at villanova

university. our own chris may served as emcee after the trophies were given out athletes did a victory lap as they carried the torch. the campus is the sight of the largest annual student run special olympics in the entire world. a lot of folks got really good advice today at the forever young health and wellness event in philadelphia. a number of experts spoke to the crowd about how to lead a happier and healthier life. our own "eyewitness news" health reporter stephanie stahl was there to speak. all the proceeds from today's event benefit klein jcc which helps thousands of local families in need. we're back in a moment.
