police have not said yet whether they believe that the two victims here died before or during the fire. the block here on washington avenue just reopened but we see police are still here as part of the all day investigation. they have one version of what happened but they are not telling us if they are sold that is the truth. >> really, oh , my gosh. >> reporter: neighbors are saddened to learn what looked like a small fire in the egg harbor city house turnout to be much worse. police say woman and her son were found dead inside and they believe the fire was set intentionally. school officials confirmed that the little boy was in second grade. >> i didn't think it was little will boy that died. my gosh. >> reporter: police say there was a man in the house that needed to go to the to the hospital for undisclosed injury. they claimed he to know what happened. >> he was telling them he need to break in the house. >> reporter: police won't comment if they believe the story and they don't have a suspect. >> we don't want to alarm anyone in here. we don't think there is something that will happen now. >> reporter: damage appears to be on the back of the house in

and conduct a security sweep of the campus. all activities have been canceled and school will resume tomorrow. well, investigation is underway after a drowning at a day care event inner cumberland county, new jersey. chopper three over 900 block of cher lane in in millville. the owner told police on tuesday that he found a 15 month-old boy missing, when she return to the yard after tending to another child. she later found him in a pond, and then called 911. day care has not reopened. man accused of abducting a with man and fleeing across, and, federal court today. minute hearing, his first appearance in federal court on kidnapping charges here in philadelphia. accused kidnapper delvin barnes charged with abducting 22-year old carlesha gaither from a germantown street and holding her captive for nearly three days, found himself, face-to-face with a u.s. magistrate at his first court appearance. >> you have been charged in the criminal complaint with knowingly lawfully and unlawfully abducting and kidnapping a victim and transporting her in interstate commerce. do you plan to hire a lawyer or would you like a court to appoint counsel for you. >> today the federal defender was appointed to represent mr. barnes. he was continued to friday for a detention hearing as well as a probable cause hearing. >> reporter: barnes newly a interest 30ed public defender had no comment on the charges following the four and a half minute hearing.

prosecutor jane len hand requesting pretrial detention that would require barnes to stay behind bars as he awaits trial. can you comment at all on the charges. >> i can't. >> reporter: barnes was arrested one week ago, federal agents surrounding his car in jessup maryland rescuing gaither. for now he will be held here at federal detention center but neither prison officials nor his attorney will comment on whether he will be kept under a suicide watch as he was in the virginia prison. >> i don't know anything about that. i really can't answer to that. >> reporter: in virginia, barnes is still facing state charges of attempting to rape a teenage girl and setting her a fire. police now confirmed that the this afternoon just a few minutes ago, eric holder, the u.s. attorney general, put in a conference call to all of the philadelphia detectives involved in investigating this kidnapping telling them that they did a great job. live from the u.s. courthouse, i'm walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

"eyewitness news" reporter justin sanchez live at northeast detectives with the latest on this bizarre incident, justin. >> justin, yes, john crammer was walk in a few hours there by police and will be there for several hours more for booking. he is on his way in he did say he is very sorry for what happened and said it will never happen again. two days after launching his ex-wife's red corvette in the delaware john crammer earned iserd to police at northeast detectives. >> i didn't realize i did anything wrong. >> reporter: now, he says it is hitting him especially knowing he may not see his children for a while. >> see my daughter jillian has drawn syndrome. that is who i spend every day with. without her in my life i'm unbalanced. >> reporter: monday's corvette caper was quickly tied to crammer who said it became yet another flash point in

his near three-year divorce process from his estranged wife told cbs-3 that she did not want to be identified. >> they threatened me that he was going to do it. >> reporter: she says crammer sent text messages admitting he dumped the corvette in the river. as for why, both say it was over the couple's minivan which he wanted but did not get but that text violates a protective order she took out against him months ago. she said her front door is boarded because he recently tried to break the the glass to get inside. a witness at the river told police crammer told him not to tell anyone he saw but he did any want tipping off police who arrived to pull off the under water car recovery. >> risking lives of police officers. they had to go in there and pull that car out, it will get new trouble. >> i didn't know anybody would go in and try to get the car. >> reporter: crammer is facing two charges of reckless endangerment for those

officers who did go in after that car. he is also facing a charge of break ago this protective order. he blames all of this on his bipolar disorder and police say that will be up for the court to decide. live from northeast philadelphia, i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> justin, thank you. violent crash kills a woman and injured a man right outside northeast high school. this happened around 4:00 this morning on cottman avenue in northeast philadelphia a. police say one of the drivers may have run a red light causing that crash. woman was thrown from her car while the man's vehicle slid on the lawn of the high school. that man is recovering tonight with the broken neck. parents, staff members are demanding tonight the philadelphia will school district increase security at bartram high school. dozens rallied outside the school in king sessing this afternoon, calling for action, after a substitute teacher was assaulted in the hallway allegedly by a student. three teachers have been assaulted a at bartram in just the past month.

it has been a history making day in space. >> european scientists managed to land a than manned spacecraft on a comet traveling 84 miles an hours. cbs news correspondent charlie dagada tells us how they were able to pull this off. >> reporter: scientistness germany celebrated the success of a decade's long dream. roseta spaceship released 220-pound lander that dropped for seven hours before attaching to the comet. >> this is a big step for human civilization. >> reporter: final stretch of the 4 billion-mile journey. the the european space agency had been chasing the comet since the launch of the roseta in 2004. catching up to a comet traveling up to nearly 84,000 miles an hour meant using the gravity of the earth and mars as a sling shot, building up speed by swinging around both planets before

pennsylvania all the way west war. forty's to the south. even colder through the nation's heart land, 22 degrees in minneapolis. shy and one has been temperature for past couple days. they cannot escape that brutal cold. on storm scan you three can see the clouds associated with the front marching east ward with that cold moving into the delaware valley. once this front clears we will see consistent northwesterly winds, cold temperatures, highs only in the 40's tomorrow and we will keep an eye on this area of low pressure that will come close enough to give us a chance of the shower late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. friday, still looking at cold temperatures, and saturday, the sun comes out and those temperatures not budging out of the 40's through the entire forecast period. overnight, mainly clear northwesterly wind keeping it chilly. low of 37. now we're talking about wind chills. wind chills in the upper 20's. you'll wake up to temperatures in the 30's for the most part some 40's down the shore but 29 the morning low in the poconos.

>> reporter: governor says he plans to host another summit, again, in january. we are live from atlantic city tonight, noel mcclaren for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". philadelphia police are searching for two suspects in the armed robberies, in south and southwest philadelphia. take a look at this surveillance video, police say a female suspect has hit seven times since october 3rd. in one robbery police say she had a male accomplice. in all six business where is hit. >> kind of odd that females do robberies. thing we pointed out is how nervous the person looked in some of the videos. >> in four of the robberies the female suspect had a knife, in three of them she had a gun. well, developing story right now, three u.s. navy sailors are attacked during a stop in istanbul turkey an incident that was caught on camera. this mob at one point throw bags over the heads of those

digsal medical charges like hiv tests or er fees which may not be covered n some states that means victims could be stuck with the bill. >> when you keep getting revictimized, you know, once a month you get a reminder in the mail hey you are late, hey, this happened, it is happened to move on. >> reporter: chicago's rape victim advocates helped christine but it took ten months for bills to stop. >> we have a full-time staff person and a bulk of their cases are involving medical bills. >> reporter: our cbs news investigation found 13 states including illinois where advocates say some rape survivors are being billed for medical services n louisiana this victim was among those billed after a private company took control of the state owned lsu hospital system. >> around $2,000, of which my insurance covered none of it at all. >> reporter: state legislators began hearing last month that louisiana's governor signed an executive order aimed at better protecting victims.

an organization, that blocked outdoor feeding ban is now weeks from opening a indoor dining facility in mantua. >> but as cherry greg tells us they need public's help to jump one final hurdle. >> ryan jenkins is on a mission. >> we're working around the clock to make this happen. >> reporter: for past four years volunteers and donations have helped transform this old bank at 40th and lancaster into a dining facility that includes land lookers and hardwood floors, all for those in need. >> we want to make a home environment so that way when people come, they don't feel like it is poor peels meal. >> reporter: call to the finish line thanks to the $50,000 matching donation, the only catch, is to help these families inside, they will to have raise the money by the end of the year. >> we need about another $20,000 to make the match happen.

nation. temperatures actually still holding on to the lower 60's. here in philadelphia get outside if you want to experience 60's for another few minutes. because once they are gone they will not come back for quite sometime. fifty-six in will allentown. forty-four in mount pocono. fifty-one in lancaster. look at this chill, 46 in little rook. meanwhile it is 76 in charleston. big difference here behind the front. real core of the coal is up over northern plains where it is a 1 degrees in monday tan a9 in billings. ten in rapid city. win are strong as well. we are seeing wind ten to 15 miles an hour with higher gusts as that colder air tarts to move in. that is how you can feel the difference in the air out there that cold wind of change is blowing. tomorrow starts off dry, tomorrow evening though we have a weak disturbance. couple showers develop. maybe even a brief snow shower late, and then that moves away, and it will not accumulate or certainly an indication of this cold air that is moving in. it just gets worse. and, now it, and, then another

affect a number of retailers and banks and on line size over the past year. >> but as three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan find that is not changing majority of the shoppers habits. >> charles goldfine is not worried about anyone getting a hold of his secure information on line. >> is there a possibility it will happen to me and fit does, i will deal witt but likelihood is that it won't. >> reporter: he is not alone. a new survey from the information technology security association, says that 94 percent of consumers are familiar with security breach that he is came to light over the past year at least tailers, including target and home depot. three-quarters of those surveyed says if they are concern, but many are not doing much bit. study shows only 45 percent of consumers change their on line pass words or pin numbers. just 28 percent shopped less a at retailers affect by data breaches. 23 percent used cash more often, instead of credit cards and only 15 percent made fewer on line purchases on their mobile devices.

they had no eye tea that sad discovery emergency official was make. an investigation is now underway at the home in 200 block of washington avenue in egg harbor city. "eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live at the scene with details, cleve. >> jessica, police tell us that they have notified next of kin but prosecutor's office has not released the names of the victims or given us any sense of how they believe that they have died. but the neighbors in this area say that if the fire was set deliberately they want to know more about the motive. >> i didn't think it was a little boy that died, my gosh. >> reporter: second grade boy and his mother are dead after fire fighters responded to the call in the 200 block of washington avenue. they put out fire quickly but inside found two life less victims. authorities say they transported a man to the hospital with undisclosed injuries, he claimed to know how the situation started. >> he was telling investigators that on one broke in the house. >> reporter: police won't comment if they believe the
