"eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live at the scene with details, cleve. >> jessica, police tell us that they have notified next of kin but prosecutor's office has not released the names of the victims or given us any sense of how they believe that they have died. but the neighbors in this area say that if the fire was set deliberately they want to know more about the motive. >> i didn't think it was a little boy that died, my gosh. >> reporter: second grade boy and his mother are dead after fire fighters responded to the call in the 200 block of washington avenue. they put out fire quickly but inside found two life less victims. authorities say they transported a man to the hospital with undisclosed injuries, he claimed to know how the situation started. >> he was telling investigators that on one broke in the house. >> reporter: police won't comment if they believe the story and they say the fire

appeared to have been set on purpose. >> arson doggies looking to see if there is flammable liquids. we are considering this suspicious hat this time. >> reporter: police say they have no suspects but they don't think neighbors need to worry about further danger. atlantic county prosecutor's office spent the day at the house piecing together the investigation in the two deaths. >> it is hard, you know when children are involved. >> reporter: neighbors say loss of a child is unspeakable and they want to know how it all happened. >> nothing ever happens around here, so it is very scary, and strange at the same time. >> reporter: the local school district says that they have done a call this afternoon to all of the parents in the district letting them know about the boy's death and also letting them know that there will be grief counselors on hand tomorrow, the autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow as well. we are live from egg harbor city, cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a woman suffered burns in a row house fire in philadelphia's hunting park neighborhood this afternoon.

today parents joined with teachers, students, politicians demanding more safety at that school. new at 6:00 tonight our syma chowdhry is live at bartram high and syma you talked with the teacher who was knocked out. >> reporter: that is right, chris. the 68 year-old teacher is still recovering tonight after he said a student picked him up and body slammed him at school last week, now officials held a rally today saying that the school needs more staffing to prevent this kind of violence and they need parent to be just as outraged to do something about their child's behavior. city officials, school staff and philadelphia teachers union held a anti violence rally outside of the trouble bartram high school wednesday afternoon. thinks after a teacher was attack by a student last week making it third assault begins a staff member in the month. >> they are going to school on a daily basis fearing they will get knock upside their head. >> reporter: last weeks assault went viral after

students took pictures and video. victim, a 68 year-old substitute teacher from liberia. he said the 18 year-old that attacked him was not supposed to be in his class and being inappropriate with the female student. >> this is not a bedroom, this is not your living room, stop that report report students cursed at johnson, shoved him and left class. >> this boy can be my grand child, telling me get out of my face. >> reporter: two saw each other later in the day and johnson, 5 feet four was assaulted by the the student. >> body slammed me on the floor. >> reporter: he suffered injuries on his neck, back, elbow and was taken to the hospital. johnson says that the school needs to beef up security. >> it is not good at all a. >> reporter: teachers are asking for more resources and staff to ward off violence but officials say parents have to join them in this effort. >> if the parents job to step up to the plate to tell their

hard work in bringing kidnaped victim carlesha gaither home to her family. the call came the same day that delvin barnes made his first appearance in the federal court in philadelphia. he asked the court to appoint an attorney today. it is unclear if he was on suicide watch here as he was in virginia. barnes is set to return to court on friday for a bail hearing. man accused of ditching a corvette this is delaware river in the divorce dispute has surrendered to police. fox is speaking out after the first person charged under his name sake law is sentenced for making straw gun purchases. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt tells us how the legislation is continuing the officer's legacy of community protection. >> this is actually a good day. we don't have many of those anymore. >> reporter: kathy fox and her husband tom feel a sigh of relief after 22-year old stacy dawson became the first person in pennsylvania to be sentenced under the law bearing their son's name. >> what i want out of this law is -- so another family doesn't go through what we have gone through. >> reporter: officer brad fox was gunned down by a man involve in the straw purchase where on one legally buys a gun or sells or gives ate way to a quick felon. law calls for a minimum of five years behind bars for anyone convicted of straw purchases guns at least twice.
