>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at 11:00 o'clock, it is the first blast of winter. a live picture from lansdale, montgomery county wreck the snowflakes are still falling right now. this is the snowy scene in springfield, delaware county. wet snow came down there. a covering surfaces for while. something we normally don't

expect to see until a little bit later in the winter. a different scene in marlton, burlington county tonight. the big wet flakes there didn't really stick. despite the wet roads drivers got around just fine, and now a look at the falling snow in hokessin new castle county. the flakes this early in the season had many shaking their heads in disbelief. >> good evening, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm chris may. welcome to winter. we have team three coverage of this first blast tonight. we are live with how people are forced to prepare a little bit early and of course our meteorologists are tracking the snowfall. we'll begin with meteorologist kate bilo. she's life in the mobile weather lab. kate? >> thanks, chris. definitely feeling more like january or february than mid november out here tonight. we're in lansdale with the cbs-3 mobile weather lab. we've been really tackling the roads out here today and going from place to place looking for snow. take a look at this i just noticed this big piece of snow fell right off the roof of the mobile weather lab. you can see it's been snowing

all evening. we do have a decent coating here on grassy surfaces. the bushes and shrubs are completely covered. the roads though are just wet and that's what we've been finding all across the region tonight. everywhere we've gone, though, we've seen hints of winter. take a look. a sugar coating of white across the region tonight as the first snowflakes of the season fell. too soon for some but for others -- >> some people don't like it but i love it. so, yeah. definitely a good time. >> reporter: cars were occurred in lee height ton. snow clung to bushes and shrubs in allentown and in hatfield, flakes flew furiously oscuring visibility on the roads. >> it was snowing and also some accidents on the road. >> really? >> yeah. i just wanting to home and got out of the snow. >> reporter: despite the swirling snow roads stayed mainly wet in quakertown in the quake of several warm days. winter is just around the corner. indeed it is. we've been seeing those big fat flakes all evening an indication of a lot of moisture couldn't 10

in the atmosphere as temperatures have hovered right around the freezing mark or slightly above. let's take look at snow amounts across the region. the highest number we have that's in huff church that's a high elevation in berks county. 2.5-inches there. new tripoli at 1.4. graterford just over half inch. exton almost a half an inch in ewing .2. right now on the cbs-3 mobile weather lab you can see we are above freezing. it's 34.3 degrees at the moment but it is still snowing. a little bit lighter now but the flakes continue to fall here in lansdale. we've been seeing them since 5:00 o'clock this evening all throughout the region. still dealing with them late tonight and after that, well it's a blast of cold air on the way for more on that we'll send it back inside to kathy. >> thanks very much, kate. yes, we see the snow beginning to break up a across the region. that's the good news, as advertised some snowflakes in south jersey. the good news is, this is going to becoming to an end during the early morning hours. the batch edge through allentown reading berks county and lancaster already breaking up with very light snow showers and

flurries through trenton, some snow there. interior south jersey seeing that heavy wet snow those plum pee flakes and that will be moving toward the north and the east. the good news is, this first snow of the season, well, not so bad across the region at least it's not on area roads. now here's look at visibles. we have reports of some areas seeing reduced visibility with areas of fog. reading down to 2.5 miles. in the poconos trenton lancaster 3 miles visible not awful but you'll be seeing that as well. here's a look at when the flakes will end across the region. far northern and western suburbs by midnight the philadelphia area and suburbs between midnight and 2:00 a.m. and northern delaware and jersey suburbs between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. but right in you we are beginning to see everything tea taper off. another concern is going to be the morning commute. watch for icy spots. area roads are wet whether it's rain, sleet or snow, temperatures in the 30s. wind chills in the 20s. so there will be icy spots on area roads, bridges, sidewalks, overpasses, you name it. it is going to be a wintry go

the next couple of days this winter is going to be cold and snowy so we're in for more of the same. my exclusive eyewitness snow cast calls for this winter to be above average with snow. philadelphia 34 to 40-inches. i'm forecasting high amounts in the lehigh valley, 38 to 44-inches and down the jersey shore, expecting a good dose of snow as well 30 to 36-inches of snow. now before you head out the door be sure to check in with katie tomorrow morning. she'll have her updated forecast beginning at 4:30 a.m. right here on cbs-3. >> all right, kathy, thanks. with that prospect of above average snowfall, those in the know say now is the time to prepare. sierra leone but also a permanent u.s. resident. he's going to be treated in nebraska at a facility two other ebola patients were treated. >> new at 11:00 o'clock tonight. philadelphia police are looking for several suspects in a brazen jewelry store heist. thanks to surveillance video we've got a pretty good look at these thieves. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco spoke exclusively with the jewelry store owner and she's life now in center city philadelphia. diana? >> reporter: chris, this is what a lot of the storefronts look like tonight. on jewelers row. the jewels have been locked up for the evening after one jewelry store owner tells me that people are on edge after he was hit by professionals. high priced jewel heist in the city's diamond district. four thieves are caught on camera first casing the store walking up and down the sidewa sidewalk. then making a go for it. >> they cut my gate. spread it apart.

smashed the front wip dough. went in and smashed one case and opened another case, and took off with about three, $400,000 worth of jewelry. >> reporter: owner nathan bar ski says they trigger autoalarm when they broke his door around 4:30 saturday morning. but they were gone by the time his manager arrived seven minutes later. >> they were fast. i found rings and jewelry all over the the street that they dropped running away. >> reporter: video shows the suspect running to their get away car a late model white infinity police are looking for two men and two women. bar ski thinks they've done this before. >> they wore gloves. and they definitely were here before because they hit my one big case. >> bar ski and other jewelers on the block started putting gems in a safe overnight and installing bullet proof glass and iron gates. >> right before christmastime it's just a big hit to take. >> reporter: and cameras inside that store were the not working at the time of the heist. so a lot of jewelers here would like to see police patrol throughout the overnight hours.

police are asking anyone with information to give them a call. we're live at eighth and sansom tonight in center city, i'm diana rocco, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> diana, thank you very much n evesham township, police are looking for clues in the death of a man whose body was found on the side of a road. officers were handing out flyers tonight near braddock mill and tomlinson mill roads. that is where that 53 year old was found last thursday afternoon. the man was wearing a red shirt and a black jacket. anyone with any information is asked to call police. >> new charges against alleged trooper killer eric frein. prosecutors added terrorism charges after he told them he wanted to quote wake people up. a thumb drive belonging to frein contained letter that spoke of a quote revolution. he's accused of killing a pennsylvania state trooper and wounding another. >> new at 11:00 tonight the attorney for one of the victims in the tacony basement of horr horrors case says a $45 million

judge against the defendant says a clear message a jury awarded million of dollars in tamara one of the challenged victims held against her will abused and defrauded of her social security checks for years. her attorney tells us they were very happy with the verdict. >> hopefully, it's a stern warning to anyone who would abuse those in our society who are more vulnerable. >> the judgment was entered against linda weston and other defendants who failed to respond to that lawsuit. >> we're tracking our first taste of winter wet tonight. here was the seen in montgomery county where the roads were wet and messy. the question is, how is it going to look in the morning? kathy? >> cold and perhaps a little icy tomorrow morning. we'll talk more about plus believe it or not another arctic blast that make it be even colder in the seven day foreca forecast. these temperatures dipping into the 20s. we'll take look at that coming up. >> and the cake boss is used

called uber x. uber x is facing fears fight in philadelphia where it's been called illegal. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones has the latest on the drama that is now kicked into high gear. >> reporter: cabs have competition but authorities say that competition is operating outside the rules. >> love uber x. use it in philadelphia, atlantic city, new york. >> reporter: uber x an app based ride sharing business where drives use their own personal cars to pick people up. >> i'm always concerned when i get into a stranger's car. >> reporter: a the ppa says is operating illegally in the city with no government oversight on pricing and safety. >> if you want to put your child or put your safety in jeopardy, get in one of those cars. >> reporter: ppa executive director vince, says the agency has been cracking down on uber x drivers since the company started operations here in october. >> this is what a thousand dollars fine? >> that is correct. >> reporter: uber x driver ray reyes was fined and his car impounded when an undercover ppa sting caught him operating in

the city. >> did you feel like you were being treated like you were a criminal? >> i believe so, yes. i didn't know what was going on. >> reporter: reyes is part of citywide crack down. so far more than a dozen uber x drivers have been fined and more are likely it's a crack down by the ppa philadelphia uber john helm man contends this is heavy handed. >> did you know this was coming. we were hoping they'd be -- would sit down and work it out. >> they seem more focused on protecting the existing cab medallion than providing more choices for riders and drivers in the city. >> you be we are x is like a bar owner who starts serving out would ought license. >> are they providing competition? it is competition. but it is illegal competition. >> and so while the battle over uber x will continue, the more expensive version of the service known simply as uber which uses suv's and sedans has an operat

operating here legally in the city for more than two years. uber is regulated by the ppa. essentially as a limousine service. reporting in center city, todd quinones, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> the man known as the cake boss is facing criminal charges tonight. he was swarmed on his way out of his arraignment on three misdemeanor counts of drunk driver. buddy who recently opened a bakery in marlton was pulled over in manhattan early this morning. the criminal complaint says reality tv star wreaked of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. police say they observed his yellow corvette swerving through traffic. >> it's a new way to potentially steal your keys and break into your house. three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan tests whether a snapshot of your key could be the secret to opening the door to your home. tyler hug begins is a second generation locksmith. >> i'll turn the the machine on. >> reporter: he knows copying

keys doesn't require cutting edge technology. but now -- >> the opportunity is there. >> reporter: new smart phone apps let you duplicate a key just by taking a few snapshots. could that put you at risk each time your keys are out of your site. >> there's that possible security risk. >> reporter: when you get your oil changed. go to a full service car wash. or happened your keys to valet. at the cbs-3 broadcast center, keys are often left in plane sight. sarah works in our promotions department. >> sometimes i throw my keys on my desk. >> reporter: how easily could someone mick a copy of her keys with sarah's permission we tried it out. using an app called key me i snapped pictures of her two house keys as instructed front and back placed on a sheet of white paper but i also shot the keys while on her key ring, too. like a potential thief might in a hurry. i up loaded the picks she would out six bucks a key and several days later they arrived in the mail. >> hold this. let's see if it work.

in exactly. >> keep your eyes on the keys. >> jim, thanks. >> let's take look at another snowy scene from our region tonight. these pictures from the north coventry area. out in chester county. just yesterday the mercury there hit tent degrees. and now kathy it's snowing. unbelievable. >> it is. a difference a day can make, right? our weather watchers are saying cold, snow and a little bit slippery at times. let's start off in pennsylvania. johnny says in philadelphia 35 degrees right now. but a coating of snow on the cars. right now a little drizzle in philadelphia. we'll take it over to the pennsylvania side. it is 33 degrees and jeff says it is cold in coatesville with some snow on the ground as well. 35 degrees in wilmington. and josh says i can't believe it's snowing. wasn't it 70 degrees yesterday? yes, josh, it was. but we said it was going to get a lot colder. i want to go to the north and west of philadelphia. i talked to ben. he lives in gilbertsville.

saying the snow accumulating on the cars this evening. captain chuck pressler one of our "eyewitness weather" watchers in perkasie snows the snow covering this grassy field. the animals staying dry. not minding too much. the tale of two seasons here. you have your summer geranium on the back deck and rob is saying in glenmore, yes, we have in snow accumulating on the grass. in philadelphia right now 37 degrees. it always could be worse consider this chicago in the 20s. denver sick. billings two. rapid city south dakota one below zero. right now we're still in the 30s everywhere. even in the poconos. as we take zoom in you can see where the snow is falling temperatures right at 32. so we do have those plum pee flakes of snow. that is going to be changing much the snow will be moving offshore it stays cold friday, saturday and sunday and then an arctic chill will be moving in. this begins late monday into tuesday. the core of that arctic air builds back down through the great lakes and northern plains again and then we get hit on
