♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at 11:00 o'clock we have our eye on the storm. and it's going to be bringing us a significant am of rain. this video is from croydon, bucks county. there was a short period of freezing precipitation tonight. storm scan3 is tracking this large storm system as it does move across our region. so get ready. it's going to be a messy morning commute. good evening, everyone. i'm natasha brown.

thanks for joining us the rain will give us a brief break from the cold temperatures at least but that won't last for long. let's get right over to meteorologist justin drabick is tracking all of this for us has more on what we can expect over the next 24 hours. justin? good evening, natasha. milder temperatures will accompany this storm but you'll have to have your rain jackets and umbrellas handy throughout the entire day on monday a wet start to the work week. here we go light rain and continues to overspread the region from philadelphia on northward. no more pockets -- there were pockets of sleet earlier this evening. now the warm air has over taken most of the region. the exception up in the poconos see a little bit of blue showing up indicating some snow even some sleet up there but there's more rain well to the south that will continue to move up to the north and east. so there is a winter weather advisory in effect for carbon and monroe county. that goes until 9am monday morning. again, for that potential for snow, sleet and freezing rain initially. expecting little or no snow accumulation in the advisory area but there could be a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation

so travel could get difficult up in the pocono region through the overnight. eventually monday morning we'll see that change over to all rain even up in the mountains. here's your monday expect periods of rain pretty much the entire day. rainfall amounts should get up to about three quarters of an inch to possibly over 1 inch of rain before the storm is out of here by the evening hours. heaviest lynn will be during the afternoon. morning and evening commutes will be slower because of that rainfalling across the region. the good is temperatures are above freezing. 30s and low 40s breaking out across the delaware valley. 41 philadelphia. and wilmington. um per 30s in allentown. little bit cooler in the subur suburbs. but still above freezing and they'll stay above freezing looking at temperature in the mid 30s in quakertown and doylestown. early monday morning here's what you can expect. generally some upper theirs in the suburbs to low 40s across south jersey. make back up into the 50s tomorrow. and then what's behind the storm, another blast of arctic air. we'll time that out for you coming up in the seven day forecast in a few minutes. natasha.

"eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is live outside of police head quarter that is night. he's got more information. steve? >> reporter: natasha, when the story broke, we interviewed the police chief of darby township who kept speaking fervently about two, first responder who's showed up swooped in and helped get that child to the hospital as soon as possible. we call the local police station where we found one of the guys

was working and low and behold the guy in there right now answering the phones, he says he was one of those responders. we interviewed him. a lot of people are calling this guy a who are row but he says, as you may have guessed, he was just doing his job. don't call him a hero. >> we did what every officer in delaware county would have done. >> reporter: sharon hill officer steven mow mow makes it so so routine. >> your training kicks in and takes over. we knew what we had to do. >> reporter: what he and another first responder from the fulcroft police department had to do is being lotted and credited as life saving. >> the child is extremely luck could be be toy off loom like i said thanks to the quick work and smart reactions of two police officers. >> reporter: mow mow is one of those officers. first responder shortly before 10:30 saturday night to an auto repair shop in the 1400 block of darby townships culkin hook road. there a 10 year old boy and his sister were in a car waiting for think dad to get off work.

police say the boy diss covered a .357 magnum and accidentally shot himself in the house. mow mow arrived to the first officer on scene running toward him covered in blood with the body of the boy. >> at the time the only thing i could say with him kid, kid, stay with us. stay stay with us. >> reporter: he was performing cpr as the other officer drove to the hospital. the child would be revised. >> when it's a child involved, it's hard. it's extra hard. but your training kicks in and you don't think about that and you just do what you're supposed to do. >> reporter: of course there are many more questions in this case chief among them how in the world that get his hands on that gun and pulled the trigger? that's one of those questions that prosecutors here in delaware county will have to ask as they question whether or not to bring charges against the father. that's one question we'll be asking tomorrow. stick with cbs-3. for now live at the sharon hill police department, i'm steve patterson cbs-3 owe "eyewitness

news". >> steve, we'll be following this. thank you very much. >> a deadly motorcycle crash in delaware county. the unidentified operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on north providence road in media just before 7:00 clock this evening. an suv was involved. but police say the driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating. the cause of this crash is still under investigation. a driver is killed after police say he was drag racing through the the streets of south philadelphia. the car crashed in a utility pole here at columbus boulevard and east oregon avenue. the 32 year old man was the only person in that car. >> and outrage across the country tonight after new video surfaces from the isis militant group. it was taken immediately after the beheading of an american aid worker who was held hostage for more than a year. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: islamic state militant posted the video online early sunday. it shows a masked isis militant dressed in black claiming he's

beheaded american aid worker peter kasich. >> this is peter edward kasich a u.s. citizen of your country. >> reporter: unlike previous isis videos this one did not show kasich alive before the be heading. only the aftermath. but there are similarities to the execution videos of four other westerners. >> does seem to be the same person and obviously inside the government working very hard to exactly identify him and anything we can learn about him. >> reporter: the masked man who speaks in a british accent warns isis will attack americans on us streets. kasich was captured in syria a little more than a year ago. the 26 year old former army ranger turned aid worker converted to islam and changed his name to abdul rockman while in captivity n a statement kasich's parents said we are heart broken to learn that our son abdul rockman peter kasich has lost his life as a result of his laugh for the syrian people and his desire to ease their suffering "they released an audio recording of their son

talking about his work. >> i was able to share a little bit of hope and comfort with that man. >> they plan to speak at a church in indianapolis monday afternoon. wendy gillette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> well tonight bill cosbyss lawyer says that his client won't dig any if i the quote decade old discredited sex abuse legs with a response. his lawyer released a statement reading in part "the fact that they are being repeated does not make them true" now cosby settle add civil suit back in 2006 which claimed he drugged and assaulted women inside his home. he has never been criminally charged. cosbyss upcoming appearance on the late tow with david letterman has been canceled. >> eagles fans don't have much to cheer about tonight unfortunately. the packers pounced on the birds right from the start in green bay. they were never able to kind of get their groove back. sports director beasley reece is live in the sat center with more on this blow out loss. beas, this was unexpect to do me. >> natasha, i thought they'd put up a better fight.

the packers are the better football team. they proved it on the field. the eagles were dominated from the opening kick to the final gun. aaron rodgers ran a clinic. he was 22 for 36, 341 yards and three touchdowns. the eagles defense tried to pressure him in the second half but he showcased his total game by running away from trouble. like the eagles last week against carolina the packers scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams. beating the birds 53-20. >> obviously we needed to get pressure on hill and we didn't do a very good job of getting pressure on hill. he was on fire early and extremely accurate passing we knew that coming in. didn't do a good enough job of getting after him. >> i don't think they're a better team than us. they were today. that's all that matters. but no reason to talk about it. better team today. i think overall, we're good team. we really are. >> now you have to take advantage of every opportunity

when you play a good team. mark sanchez missed several potential touchdown throws. see if you agree with my take later in sports. >> all right. beas, thank you. we'll see you soon. >> new york the philadelphia skyline it has changed again. removing the pnb letters over the summer turned out to be a lot more difficult than expect expected. today crews returned to finish the job. "eyewitness news" reporter syma choudhry shows us just how it all went this time around. >> reporter: this p will now stand for the word past. that's because it is in a past memory you'll see these iconic letters in the philadelphia skyline. crews tried for a second time to remove the famous pnb letters on top of the high rise on one south broad street. it had stood there for more than 50 years. without the letters, the building looks different to live long philadelphians. >> it looks real naked. i can believe they took it down. >> reporter: back in august, crews attempted to take down the the 12 letters but only managed

to remove three. each letter was about 16 feet tall 13,000 pounds. the letters were in poor condition posing a safety haza hazard. >> they so big huge and heavy. >> during the first a item crews learned the letters were in worse shape than originally thought. sunday morning a chopper came in with a map b to safely remove the remaining nine letters. it took crews about 30 minutes to do so and caused some commotion in rolled closures. the n was the last letter to go. it represented the word new as in new skyline. >> philadelphia doing a lot of new things so i guess that's good for the city. >> reporter: wells fargo bank leases part of the building and was responsible for the letters. earlier this year, spokesperson said the company will not replace the letters. so philadelphians will have no choice but to get used to this new look. in center city, syma choudhry, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". ♪ >> well stay with us everyone. still ahead on "eyewitness news"

>> back now on "eyewitness news", we do have our eye on the storm tonight. rain has moved into the region, and it's going to to be sticking around through the morning. meteorologist justin drabick will tell you what you can expect in the morning and throughout the day. his forecast is coming up in just a few minutes. also tonight a man is killed after being pushed in front of a new york city subway train. this happened this morning just as the train was arriving at a station in the bronx. investigators say the 61 year old victim was standing with his

wife when another man approached him from behind. nearby surveillance cameras did catch the suspect on camera but he does remain on the loose at this hour. >> e best la patient dr. martin salism a is listed in extremely critical condition. he was diagnosed in sierra leone where he was working at the time of as a surgeon. he was flown to the u.s. yesterday. state department says his wife requested his evacuation and agreed to reimburse the u.s. government for expenses. sal ya is a citizen of africa has permanent residents here in the us. he lives with his wife and his two children in maryland. a cruise ship meantime arrives back in california after 172 people fall ill with the highly contagious norovirus. the crown princess was on a month long voyage to tahiti. more than 4100 people were on board that ship. the cdc says 58 people were sickened. they were passengers, 14 others were crew members.

in april nearly 130 people on the same ship contracted norovirus during a seven day crews off the california coast. now on the health watch, there is growing concern over energy drinks and who is consuming them. a new study claims when it comes to emergencies from those drinks, more than 40% involve children six years old and younger. young children can suffer seizures even develop heart problems. some energy drinks contain nearly four time the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. >> and also on the health watch tonight, the best place to have heart attack it is not in a hospital. that is according to some astounding new research released today. health reporter stephanie stahl explains the results. >> reporter: the experts, the equipment, it's all right there inside a hospital. but the new study found that people who were already hospitalized were more likely to die from heart attack than

people who had a heart attack outside the hospital. >> if a patient is already in the hospital, they should be much better off if they do happen to have heart attack. >> reporter: this doctor found the opposite. i interviewed him via skype about his research that analyzed data from 62,000 patient who's had heart attacks caused by a sudden and complete blocked artery. those rush into emergency room were apparently treated better and faster than patients already hospitalized. >> they were less likely to have an intervention. they were less likely to go home and they were over three times more likely to die. >> reporter: patients already hospitalized tend to be sicker and have other complications that could hinder detecting and treating a heart attack. >> even after we accounted for those variable we still did find that these patients did worse. there's delayed recognition potentially. >> reporter: the researcher says the study is wake up call that hospitals probably need to establish new and improved measures to more effectively respond to patients having heart

attack. i'm stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all righty. good sunday night everyone. we have a chilly rain falling across the delaware valley even a little bit of snow up in the poconos right now and this rain is going impact your morning commute and the entire day on monday. check in with our weather watchers and they are reporting some chilly numbers this hour but the good news is, these temperatures are above freezing. so let's see what's happening across the region check out some numbers. out in coatesville, lee has 35 degrees. lieutenant allen matthews in berneville in the mid theirs. eileen in gill vets bill arthritic degrees. clara in newtown 37 degrees this hour. most spots are in the 30s currently but still areas across south jersey reaching the 40s actually up in reading dave has 42 degrees. willow grove 37. newark 39 degrees and in levittown also a chilly 38. how much rain we talking about so far from this storm system? any from about five hundredths of an inch close to tenth of an

inch reported right now. a lot more rain coming. we'll get to that in just a bit. if you want to be featured on our newscast and if you like the weather you can sign up to become an "eyewitness weather" watcher details on cbsphilly.c cbsphilly.com/watchers. all right. check out what's happening outside right now. center city we have some light rain across the region. right now. so you'll need that umbrella if you're heading out over night. check out the storm system much it's a big weather maker across much of the east coast right now. notice the snows well to the north and west. so that's where the cold air is. we'll be on the warm side of the system. but still some frozen precipitation breaking out across the far northern viewing area up tour the northern lehigh valley, lehigh and northampton county up into the mountains. light snow could be sleet and freezing rain overnight. elsewhere light rain right now. we have reports of sleet earlier this evening looks like most of the warm air has moved on in and this rain will continue to fill in all across the delaware valley. temperatures though actually on the rise a little bit if you compare it to yesterday at this

time. check out the numbers. anywhere from eight to 20 degrees warmer compared to 24 hours ago much this storm will draw in the warmer area. low fours philadelphia south and eve. 42 in dover. 30s official numbers up into reading and into lehigh valley. so here the setup right now. a front that's going to be pushing eastward brings in the moisture watch out for periods of rain during the day monday. heaviest in the afternoon. high temperatures break out into the 50s especially from the city on south and east. the front will come through the evening. it will end the rain. but here comes that true arctic air it arrives for tuesday. highs only in the 30s. tuesday afternoon and wednesday. and we'll factor in the wind it will feel more like the single digits and teens early tuesday morning. so overnight, pockets of rain. that continues into the morning hours on monday. so that may slow the morning commute down a little bit. heavier rain develops at least ties to during afternoon hours. during the evening eight, 9:00 o'clock the rain showers to push offshore and we'll see clearing skies. the sunshine will be back for

tuesday. but it's not going to help the temperatures much. how much rain we talking about? lot of blue showing up threats generally an inch to possibly over an inch through much of delaware valley. this is good news, though, because we need some rain. we're down about 2.5-inches or over that since september 1st. this is some welcomed rain. temperatures tomorrow afternoon look at that a edge proking 60 degrees across southern new jersey and in central delaware. 50's around the city. but look at this. this is tuesday. these aren't the low temperatures these are the afternoon temperatures only in the 30s. let's talk about the wind. we'll see some gusty winds on tuesday. these are the feels like temperatures. the wind chills. more like single digits and teens in the morning. not much better in the afterno afternoon. maybe feeling like 20 degrees if we're lucky rain continues to develop overnight. chilly with a low of 39. tomorrow periods of rain, heaviest in the afternoon with a high of 55 degrees. here comes the cold air. true arctic air tuesday and wednesday. high temperatures 35 degrees. slow warmup by the end of the week. looks like we keep it dry with some sunshine.
