rain tapers though, better arctic air will be moving this arctic a veryll be moving this chilly very soon. winter gear will be in order for tomorrow. that is for sure. good afternoon everyone i'm yes, sir contact dean. i'm chris may. meteorologist kathy orr is braving conditions on the cbs-3 sky deck right now, hi there kathy. >> it will feel like we skipped november and december and jumped right into january, chris and jessica. we are talking about the coldest air of the season, and it will feel more like a january day. a really cold, january day. first lets talk about the rain, we will still be seeing pockets of heavier rain through south jersey. on storm scan 3a few pockets near atlantic city but heavier rain moved out of philadelphia. we're just seeing a few sprinkles. through atlantic county and southern parts of the burlington county you will see the yellow there. otherwise we will see rain coming to an end within the next, couple of hours. okay. now lets talk about the amounts. over an inch of rain in many locations, kenneth square,

dover, wayne pennsylvania, clayton, delaware, and woodbine, new jersey nearly an inch of rain there. flood advisories will continue for urban area and small streams until 6:15 because of the heavy rain that has fallen and those leaves blocking some of the those storm trains. next problem is the cold, right now 48 in philadelphia and falling pass. look at where that arctic front is you can see the blue, invading south jersey now, 44 in reading but look to the north and west, state college, 37. freezing in pittsburgh. cleveland, snow and 21 degrees. this is what will happen this evening. the rain will end by 7c areas of ponding on area road, the temperatures will fall, toward freezing, it will be windy, sustain winds 15 to 20 miles an hour with some slick spots. coming up we will talk about the sun returning but record cold is moving our way and it will be slow to warm backup. full detail of this arctic blast, moving in, coming up with that forecast later in the forecast. >> all right, burr, thanks,

200 students from schools in the philadelphia archdiocese, jammed into the art museum for the announcement of the pope's visit. it is a visit that they helped make happen. >> i cannot even explain into words how much it means but the pope is actually coming here and that we act you will i helped persuade him by writing letters to him and helped him come here. >> reporter: 10,000 letters from catholic school students in our area were sent to the pope francis in rome with plea toss visit philadelphia we have put a lot of work into them. so it is grateful he got a chance to read some of them and that he chose to come. >> it is sort of like a validation of their efforts, all of the hard work they put into it and now they get reward. >> reporter: this will be pope francis first visit to the united states and widespread appeal of this particular pope is generate ago lot of excitement. >> to pope crosses generations and appeals to so many people beyond the catholic faith and he has got a great message. >> he has a new point of view

camden county, new jersey. a social work there are has been rush to the hospital after being stabbed. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live for news camden with more now, steve. >> reporter: chris, witnesses tell us the attacker was on top of that social worker and would not stop stabbing until a co-worker managed to pull her off, we just spoke to the chief moments ago and said the suspect has a history of mental illness an violence. >> pulled out a 9-inch stake knife and began to immediately start stabbing a caseworker. >> reporter: it is a building that houses an agency that has the word protection in the title. >> thinks the last place would i think something like this would happen. this is a safe place. thinks the state building. >> reporter: camden county police responding shortly after 1:00 tuesday afternoon to the child protection and permanency agent i in the 100 block of haddon. >> the attack was sudden and swept. >> reporter: camden county police chief scott thompson say a female casework are in her 30's was stab all over her body by a client in her 30's. the victim transported to

cooper university hospital in severe, critical condition. the suspect, in custody, with a known violent history. >> us peck in this case has a history of mental illness but at this point in time the actual motive as to what was the trigger to this event is unknown. >> reporter: at agency handles cases of abuse and neglect and places children in foster care. lemar troop says he is outraged by what he believes was a lapse in security a lot of kids in here and visit go on in here and all of that and that happened in there. it is unsafe. >> reporter: if there is any good news in this it is that the hospital, is only about a hundred yard away, here from the scene. police say that suspect is in custody currently being questioned and will face charges as it stand now, for attempted murder. reporting live from camden, steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". steve, thank you. also breaking news right now a fire forced residents to evacuate one of the three society hill towers condo

buildings. smoke was reported on the eighth floor just before 3:00 o'clock. fire fighters were able to quickly get that situation under control and in one was injured but the causes under investigation. we will have have more coming up tonight 59:30. one man is dead and four philadelphia police officers are sent to the hospital, all of them victims of the fire that broke out in what police believe may have been a illegal boarding house. this happened on the 800 block of chelten avenue in germantown. fire fighters a had that fire under control within 15 minutes, and that is when they found the mail victim on the second floor. the four police officers were first on the scene and risked their own lives to get everybody else out. >> we also transported four police officers to the hospital for minor injuries. they were trying to extinguish this fire prior to the fire department arrival but they are in stable condition. >> the red cross tells us that they are a is continuing three other residents because of damage to that building and

well, if people weren't talking about the papal visit to day they were talking about the weather. >> that is right one or the other. >> how wet and how cold it is going to be. >> this is a 1/2 punch, two parts of the storm. we have an arctic front bringing in the heavy rain and that is moving and now we have another arctic blast and this one more powerful, for the philadelphia area, then the last one. we're talking about temperatures that would be as cold as an intense january day, a colder than average january day, and early in november, take a look outside, i'll show what you i mean.

right now we're seeing some foggy conditions, some drizzle out there in center city philadelphia but temperatures falling really fast into the 40's but wait until you see is what out west, what is coming our way. our live neighborhood network takes to us the palmyra cove nature park in palmyra, new jersey where temperature is 46 degrees. wind are west southwest between three and 4 miles an hour. you can see rain on our camera there at the cove over the course of the daze and the evening, pick up about an inch of rain there. live neighborhood network shows that we are seeing high rain amounts through south jersey at this point. on storm scan three all this moving toward north east we have dried it out in lehigh valley and suburbs. only place we are still seeing pockets of heavy rain in southern burlington county and ocean county and that will be moving off shore within the next hour or hour and a half. here's our watch or rainfall. jeff in lansdale says over a inch of rain. gary says over an inch. tuckerton still raining as well as in sea isle and rain

news" reporter todd quinones who is live there on the scene now, todd? >> reporter: chris, eyewitnesses here tell thaws smoke filled some of the hallways here and as fire fighters, helped car soy senior citizens to safety. smoke poured out of the eighth floor of the west building of the so site hill towers, we spoke to a man who lives on the 11th floor and he described what he saw, including some courageous actions by fire fighters. >> got some clothes and walked down the stairwell. go the in the stairwell it was really smokey and then firemen were carrying out senior sit accepts on that he back. >> although several senior citizens needed help getting out of the build nothing one was injury. flames were first reported here at 2:30. because fire was contained to one apartment on the eighth floor not everyone in the 250 unit, 31 floor building was told to get out. >> the whole entire building is not evacuated, there are floors above the fire that were shelter in place there was no smoke conditions and no danger to their lives.

recommend three school board members to step down based on how they handled a wiretapping scandal. this report says that they did nothing illegal but they are recommending the resignation because they think that improve on an already tense situation between school board members ape school administrators. disconnect, lack of trust. >> reporter: that is how the d.a. describe the relationship with the easton area school district administrators and the school board. >> clean house and bring in new people and perhaps we store a working relation. >> reporter: d.a. spoke about the grand jury findings about how school board members handled a scandal in january of 2013. is what when tom drago the tech director was accused of snooping through administrator's computers and recording a meeting with employees without their knowledge, drago immediately resigned and eventually faced felony wiretapping charges but avoided jail time by entering into a first time owe fenders

program. >> the grand jury believes that mr. drago established such a relationship with school board members that some were willing to overlook his transgressions. >> reporter: since his scandal some school board members resign. the grand jury report, the school board did nothing criminal, but administrators expressed distrust with the school board members. three members have been on the board since the scandal, and they have also been accused of supporting drago. >> the failure to report the matter to law enforcement height even in the grand jury's view the mistrust between school district, administrators and school board. >> reporter: grand jury recommended three school board members to resign, to lessen the strain between administrators and the the school board. >> better have a school board to have nobody on there that is hold over from the drago matter. >> reporter: some parents are worried that the strain between school officials could trickle down to students. >> if there is tension in the schools, naturally, the kids will feel it. >> reporter: we spoke with the school board president, who is also one of the members who is recommended to step down, and he says right now the school

board is reviewing the grand jury report. they will hold a press conference this evening at we're live from easton, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> same, thanks very much. a egg harbor city man charged with the murder of his girlfriend, and her son, makes his first court appearance today. this is joseph pal more the third. he showed no emotion in court as the charges were read against him. he is charged with murder accused of stabbing his girlfriend michelle perhaps and her seven year-old son gavin. police say the the man then set the home they all shared on fire and tried to cover his tracks. another brutal beheading at the hands office is militants and tonight we are hearing from the parents of the victims. video, surfaced confirming murder of the american aid worker peter kassig. he had been captured a year ago in syria where he work for charity groups to help the the innocent. >> rather than letting the the darkness overwhelmed him he has chosen to believe in the good, in himself and in

others. peter's life is evidence that he has been right all along. >> during his time in captivity kassig coverted to islam and change his name to abdul rahman, which means servant of the merciful. reverend charles engelhardt died over the weekend, who was in the process of appealing his sex abuse conviction. the 67 year-old died sunday at a hospital in pennsylvania. he was sentenced to six to 12 years in prison last year for abusing a student from saint jerome in northeast philadelphia. in the late 1990's. good evening, everyone. it is a very, very busy day. weather is not helping anyone if you think maybe i won't take i-95 and take schuylkill or roosevelt boulevard, anywhere you try to get around the delays, you'll find another delay on another alternate. i-95 is a sea of traffic. it doesn't matter heading southbound or northbound. you are jam. northbound i-95 specifically approaching allegheny we are dealing with a disable vehicle

breaking news now, two corrections officer and a police sergeant have been stabbed at a prison. this is happening at the philadelphia's industrial corrections center on state road in holmesberg. all victims have been taken to aria torresdale. this is the same prison where four inmates were stabbed last week. we will continue to follow this and have more. well, don't let it ruin your appetite but this year turkey prices are at an all time high just ahead of thanksgiving. >> experts say farm production is at its lowest level in three decades, and that is shooting prices up an extra 14 cents per pound on average. >> wow. >> not all grocery stores are passing the increase to the customers so may want to check before you go shopping. now to what could be the next big thing for businesses.

facebook is reportedly working on a new web site specifically for the office. they call it facebook at work. it would look just like the regular web site but specifically designed for professional contacts. it is still in the testing phase at this point. no word on if or when it will be released to the public. we will be right back.

across the eyewitness weather watcher network. lets check in at 47 degrees in the north and western suburbs. david mitchell down to 46 in norristown recording cloud cover there. he it is cloudy and wet, be careful on the roads and streets. definitely sound advice from david. one more in the state of delaware, lisa kerrigan who is reporting 49 and clouds. feels like 46 after this rainy damp day. if you are interested in being a weather watcher, sign up now, go to cbs philly.com/watchers. really helps us keep an eye on the ground especially on a day like today when we can get accurate readings of those rainfall amounts all across the delaware, lehigh valleys and shore points as well. lets take a peak at storm scan three and see is what happening outside. notice back edge of this rain has really eroded rapidly. we are not seeing much more in the city and then here and just like this a hole developed and it is gone. down through shore points we are seeing one area oven hansed rainfall here in south jersey as we sweep the area most of the region is drying out. that is good news.

you can see that yellow shading there south of waymouth and down toward ocean city. but rest of the region looking okay behind the rain, problem is, you'll feel those temperatures start to plumet later on tonight. in fact they have started to drop in the north and western suburbs. forty-three in lancaster. forty-three in allentown. thirty's in the poconos. forty-nine at the airport. still 60's in atlantic city and wildwood. you can see where cold has in the quite permeated and here's the bulk of the cold air over northern plains and midwest. fifteen in chicago. four in minneapolis. seventeen in des moines. these temperatures much more reminiscent than january then mid-november and tomorrow when cold settles in for us highs will not get past lower 30's. wind which wind chills in the teens. that is all day long. a as we head into wednesday in better than 30's. by thursday we will get to the mid 40's, it will feel like the summer day even though temperatures are still more than 10 degrees below average. i want to show you tomorrow morning 6:00 a.m. heading out to work or getting kids ready

for school it will feel like single digits in the north and western suburbs. it will feel like 14 tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. take this seriously even in the afternoon. wind chills in the teens. this is dangerous cold. don't want to be outside in this for too long. so bun will those kids up sending them out to the bus stop parka hat mittens, gloves, scarves, whole 9 yards. thirteen is what it will feel like wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. this isn't a one day chill but will last right through wednesday at leads. overnight clearing, cold i windy. wind very strong tomorrow, gusts to 35 miles an hour. not out of the question that could bring down smaller tree branches across the area feeling like the teens all day long with a high no better than freezing. we should be in in the 50's. wednesday just 33. down right baum by thursday just 44, and friday a setback and then saturday gets better, notice, it is milder sunday and monday but that warm up comes with a chance of rain to start next week. now back to you at the desk.

on the healthwatch, a kiss is just a kiss, unless you are worried about germs that is. there is a new study just release that had said intimate kiss is actually loaded with bacteria. >> three on your side health reporter stephanie stahl has the results. >> reporter: simon and lauer after been a couple for years and agreed to test a science behind the kiss. experiment took place at the museum in amsterdam where germs take center stage. >> i wanted to show them they were part of nature, nature was in them. >> reporter: in a new study dutch scientists looked at 21 couples and measured home microbes were change in a kiss in a kiss of, ten seconds, 80 million bacteria are transferred. on average from one person to the other one. >> reporter: scientists took samples from the mouth of couple before and after they kissed and one partner had a yogurt drink that contained bacteria not usually found in the mouth. >> by doing that we could make an estimate of how much bacteria were transferred from
