are you ready to head out for the who will will day or just waiting around for company to come over. >> lets get to katie for that holiday forecast. happy thanksgiving, good morning. >> happy thanksgiving to both of you, maybe you are watching. maybe you are up dark and early as we like to call it. >> yes. >> then all of the fixins ready to go. we have early risers out there. happy thanksgiving once again. thankfully weather looking quieter. if you are waiting on some friends and family to come in today, perhaps waiting out the storm, we will look so much better. still a few residual issues to discuss but we will start off with sky cam three, all is clear at this point, my friend, we will throw current can traditions overtop. temperatures are still chilly, in the city we're at 36 degrees but that does mean if you go in the remote suburbs we will fine pretty cold air. now lets back it up here, how did we do. up in mount pocono we hit an exact 8 inches. new trip poly, half a foot full of heavy slushy snow n ewing it was an inch.

there was such a sharp gradient that set up between that rain snow line and it meant you got pummeled with snow yesterday or you had virtually nothing and mainly a rain storm. with that said we do still have some lingering snow showers out there if you are traveling and taking you up that northeast extension and leaving in the next say, half an hour to 45 minutes. you could potentially still be running into some additional snow flakes. but it won't be variety that has the chance to really stick too easily, maybe sticking to the roads briefly but we are not looking at much more in the way of accumulation out here. here's where we stan, 33 in allentown. so marginal with freezing i war that i left over slush or any oven just wet roadways could freeze back over. that is one final concern. unless roads were treated you might need to worry about. of course we have the the parade stepping off at 8:30. 35 degrees for that at kick off but we are only expecting the temperature to climb only 5 degrees. the clouds out there, all of the thanksgiving day holiday

morning long getting ready for all of the crowds. he is ready to go home. >> reporter: you have a lot of work ahead of you my friend. you have a long time today. >> yes. >> reporter: is there a handful of people outside right now who are waiting, with their birds to get in here. this is a long standing tradition here in philadelphia of course they are all looking for these, the brick ovens, what they are known for and it starts cooking here at 6:00 in the morning but would i say about five people outside. this is my first thanksgiving here in philadelphia i'm's looking forward to saying, all of this excitement here and also about that turkey hat. that will be coming up later in the show as well. we will talk to one of the owner's sons who is here starting the work right now. he will take us through another day and process, and how this will go at 6:00 in the morning. definitely stay tuned for all of that. it will be a very busy day here and very good turkey day. now back to you in the studio for now. >> many thanks to the casha

family for inviting us into their home and their business. another thanksgiving tradition goats underway this morning, k-mart opens up its doors for customers looking to get a head start on the holiday shopping. lets give you a a live look at the k-mart on roosevelt boulevard in northeast philadelphia they are opening for business in less than an hour at 6:00 a.m. and will remain opened for 42 hours straight. in addition to k-mart radio shack is opening up early on thanksgiving, their first time ever, doors opening up at 8:00 a a.m. ready to shop after dinner, best buy and toys-r-us opening up at 5:00 p.m. tonight. for those looking to get a jump on those black friday sales, wal-mart, target, kohl's, macy's are all opened starting at 6:00 p.m. tonight, nicole. thanksgiving day tradition like no other, the nation's oldest parade prepares for 95th year. "eyewitness news" live where floats and balloons are a at the ready. marching band from across the country are prepared to step off and who can forget santa claus, ready to ride his

streets creating traffic disruptions but the scene was a far cry from the destruction and kay uses of the first two nights after a grand jury decided not to indict ferguson police officer darren wilson for brown's death. >> we should be peaceful but that rioting and brought awareness and attention. >> reporter: here demonstration where is mostly peaceful with small protests. police and national guard prevented major flare-ups but demonstrations continue to spill over into other cities n oakland, california protesters ran through the streets and smashed windows last night. people laid in the streets in los angeles and officers arrested protesters who refused to disperse. >> one of us has been harmed and therefore all have of us has been harmed. >> reporter: back in ferguson some are giving thanks to sit waysness their community is more peaceful. frank roberts came here from new york, giving up his thanksgiving to support ferguson and the the brown family. >> today is a a tribute to them.

that is what i see all of the young protesters here today. >> reporter: many say they will be here as long as it takes to get justice. susan mcginnes for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a miss would go man found dead, now authorities in northampton county of charged their stepfather with their murder. police say gregory graf killed jessica padgett a a wife and mother of three. she disappeared friday on her lunch break at a day care center. officials described what happened just ten minutes after she went in missing. >> he did admit that he intentionally and neglectly caused the death of the victim at his home. he related that he utilized a firearm to cause the victim's death and that he then took the victim's body and disposed of it on his property. >> reporter: investigators continue to look into a sexual mote any of this case. graf could face the death penalty if evidence shows padgett was a all thedded. meanwhile a family tragedy

birds need another big game from lesean mccoy. we will talk turkey ande what the typical thanksgiving is like in his home. 5:13. lets get weather with katie, good morning. such a shame erika is off today. there is so many turkey puns, but we have nicole in her place. start thinking. >> you have a bunch in your pocket. >> break them out. >> let's go out identify and we will start things off here with a look at live neighborhood network what a tranquil scene it is, right now in pleasant valley in broadheadsville, it is still snowing lightly. we will talk about why that is happening but just a beautiful view here. granted, it is certainly still slick and slushy up this way and pretty much anywhere we have had snow accumulation from yesterday. notice what is going on here. atmosphere is still unsettled basically. there is still on cold air to work w that cold air aloft is still allowing the snow to fall here. we have heavy snow, heavier

snow coming through our area yesterday. now way up to the north east. it is more maine atlantic, canada concern but you can see these snow showers falling right around say pretty much from montgomery and bucks, up into the pocono region that whole span. meanwhile rest of the country is quieting down in the wake of the system and that cold pocket of air. things are completely empty lets just say over texas. with that said we are looking at good weather here for anybody that was lucky enough, maybe you have friends or family that booked it out to will dallas for the game today. we have lots of unshine. this turkey want to be in every graphic. sunny skies, nice and pleasant out there for you in dallas, back here at home we are still dealing with lingering concerns. that being slushy roadways, the wet roads that may still be left over that could freeze over early this morning with temperatures still very marginal with freezing. there could be patchy black ice. if you waited out the storm that was a good move but there may be still minor residual issues.

avoid the oven and live out their lives on a virginia farm. president george hw bush started the annual thanksgiving day tradition of pardoning turkies in 1989. nice tradition. >> i love that. this morning a new jersey eatery ready to feet those less fortunate this holiday. venice eatery prepped their kitchen for 3,000 meals. over hundred volunteers will package and deliver turkies, stuffing and vegetables for people from camden to atlantic city. now in the sixth year they bring special meaning to venice's owner. >> it is just so rewarding, you know, you see tears, you hear thanks, over and over you get cards in the mail, people tell me they were rolling pennies, they can't believe this is true that we're doing this. it is just we're blessed. >> nicely done. preparations get underway at 8:30 in time for those meals to make it to the people who need it most. >> love to see that. >> another thanksgiving tradition, macy a's day parade in new york city.

>> cbs news correspondent lauren lister shows us new balloons that will float down the treats of manhattan this morning. >> reporter: crowds braved the inn compliment weather on the man hat even upper west side to watch mace ace giant parade balloons come to life. >> i just wanted to see them blow up. >> reporter: the tuna family comes to the inflation every year and admit they like it better than turkey day itself. >> there is different balloons every year, so if you want to come back next year and see what other balloons they have. >> reporter: six new balloons will take to the sky on thanksgiving including the popular locomotive thomas the the tank engine. thomas is 47 feet tall and he is 75 handlers. the macy's inflation team fills the balloons with mostly helium and lots of it. >> thomas for example takes over 20,000 cubic feet. so if you think of a basketball being less than a cubic foot you can think of it takes maybe 25,000 basketballs

what is cooking, katie. >> what is cooking is hopefully turkey a at my grand mom's house. i am will's sure it is. we are starting to see skies begin to clear as well. not everyone is completely done with what is left of this storm. as we start things off we will go outside and take you to a live view, you have to look closely, but up a at jack frost big boulder we have a spotlight. we have zeroed into show you it is still actually snowing, in carbon county right now. now it isn't necessarily a super heavy snow that is falling, and we will start to see this wind downey think. we will take a look next at storm scan three, you can see one little pocket of light snow that is starting to fire up here. portions of the northeast extension for example, up to 78. twenty-two, i80.

route this morning but it is not snowing. happy thanksgiving everyone. >> that is so true at least it is not snowing. let's head over to katie for the forecast and some good weather heading our way. >> definitely. at least quiet, it might not be as bright and sunny as would you hope for, necessarily but it is calmer. that is the big key here. not everybody is completely out of the woods just yet, we are seeing the brunt of the storm system pulling well off to the north and east at this point but there is a wrap around residual pocket of snow showers that we will take you out to on storm scan three. look at that there you go. we saw a couple flurries across northeastern most philadelphia, here but for the most part you saw, the bulk of any of this little pocket of ow showers falling through northeast extension, allentown, bethlehem, ease exton area but it is further to the north. you can see it pulling away and it will be fizzling as we move forward in time here. you are generally looking at just some clouds today, limited sunshine is what we will call it. it is chilly, at best we are

looking at lower 40's. tomorrow we will have a hard time breaking out of the 40's as cold air settles in, and skies clear. we will drop a little bit more on the thermometer. upcoming weekend while still chilly initially it has a nice warm up, up its sleeves. we will talk about that on the show. here's where we stan with our current temperatures going outside, 35 degrees in philadelphia, especially with the snow showers and traveling north this morning you might still have some slick spots to contend with as these temperatures are very close to freezing but we have a parade to talk about and today at 8:30 we are still seeing temperatures home at 35, but somewhat steady on it thermometer for now and as i mentioned we are looking at clouds today. happy thanksgiving, everybody. it is a chilly forecast for the standards ovulate november but i think just the sheer fact that things are calming down is a good side for us here and will stick with us as we head forward in the upcoming weekend. quick check of the live
