>> "black friday" gives way to small business saturday. how main streets across the delaware valerie hoping to attract holiday shoppers away from the malls this weekend. >> good morning to you. today is saturday, november 29th. i'm nicole brewer. it is just past 6:00. let's get a check on the forecast, if you are headed out for little shopping, or christmas tree hunting, whatever the case may be, carol? >> it is gloves and scarts and -- scarfs and hats, and boots, and fortunately not looking at any precipitation in the area. it is just the chill. it was so still overnight, that any of the 39 degrees we managed to accomplish yesterday went right to up space. right now, it is 17 degrees, and in nazareth. nice looking out there, as long as you've got a heater on your side, and a pain of glass, because the other side outside it is cold out there this morning, foreman and beast. so, act accordingly and keep everybody warm. we are looking at storm scan3. notice that a few clouds are starting to move into the area. we have some dying out rain showers, or rather snow

showers, off to the west. so, even through hagerstown, maryland, and to the west of harrisburg, you are looking at couple of those, if you are starting out early this morning. look at the temperatures, starting in the north, 8 degrees in the poconos, 17 in allentown, 26 degrees in philadelphia. 20 degrees in atlantic city, 30 in dover. everyone below the freezing mark. our temperatures today, by noon, just 36 degrees, that's cold mid-day, and we should be keeping temperatures an agree or two higher than yesterday, 40 degrees, for our temperature later on this afternoon. we do have couple of days where i think you might find the temperatures a little bit more acceptable. i will be showing you those coming up. nicole? >> all right, carol, thank you. >> new this morning, at least one car is involved in a crash in university city. it happened just after 2:00 near 30th and walnut st. at this hour, several passengers, along with a driver, are being treated at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. we're toll they suffered only minor injuries, and the cause of the accident is under

investigation. well, the search for missing west chester university student continues this morning at 10:00 o'clock. the family of 21 year old shane motorcycle couldn't rim now offering $10,000 reward for any information that may lead to his whereabouts. he was last seen early thursday morning, at a manayunk bar. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers spoke with shane's distraut family. >> take a good look at this photo. this is shane montgomery, senior at west chester university. 's five-11, green eyes, last seen wearing that gray shirt. and he's been missing since 2:00 a.m. thursday morning. >> heart broken. there are no words, none. >> his mother, karen, father kevin, are struggling, stricken with the fear of what might have happened, but stoic, in pursuit of their mission. >> pretty much exhausted, but just find the strength to keep going, we are going to find him. that's the bottom line. >> they were joined in their search by dozens of

volunteers, who fanned out across manayunk friday. here's what they know so far. around 1:45, thursday morning, shane got separated from his friends at kill dare's public on main street, when he didn't come home, dad kevin pick up the phone. >> see if he got arrested. see if he was in the hospital. see if there were any john doe's. >> what that turn up nothing, he asked for help. hours later missing person flyers dotted dozens of electrical polls and social media campaign ramped up, hashtag help fine shane was trending on twitter locally by friday night. that, joined police detectives and k9 unit. with police helicopter scanning the river bank as night fell. >> we are just hoping if he can hear me that he knows that we are looking for him and that we love him and i'm going to find him. >> there you can see one of the dozens of missing person flyers posted by volunteers across the manayunk area. the search was called off late friday evening and is set to resume once again at

10:00 a.m. we're in manayunk, matt rivers, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". meantime, a suv plows into a pharmacy in northeast philadelphia. it happened just after 6:00 last night in the 9400 block of state road in torresdale. police say the woman behind the wheel got confused, and accidentally drove through that storefront. no one was hurt. the pharmacy was closed. >> ray rice's indefinite suspension from the ffl for domestic violence now overturned. rice is now free to play again. cbs news correspondent begat shaban with more on the decision handed down by arbitrator this week. >> ray rice is now free to get back on the football field if an nfl team is too long sign him. the league suspended risin definitely two months ago, embattled running back appealed, and independent arbitrator found the indefinite sus opinion sean was abuse of discretion and must be vacated. surveillance video showed rice in february dragging his now wife janaa palmer outside an elevator, after allegedly

beating her unconscious. in july, the league's commissioner, roger goodel, initially suspended rice for two games. but, in september, goodel increased the penalty to an indefinite suspension, when this second video showed rice punches his then fiancee. goodel spoke to cbs this morning, anchor, nora o'donnell becomes why the league didn't enforce a more harsh penalty initially. >> did you really need to see a videotape of ray rice punching her in the face to make this de anything. >> no. we certainly didn't. and i will tell that you what we saw in the first videotape was troubling to us in and of itself. that's why we took the action we took. as i've said before, we didn't feel that was sufficient. we didn't get that right. >> rice argued the indefinite suspension was unfair since the nfl had already disciplined him for the same incident. the arbitrator agreed. in a statement, rice said, he's thankful for the appeals process. but admitted he made an inexcusable mistake. in los angeles, begat shaban,

cbs-3, "eyewitness news". the nfl released a statement reading in part: we respect judge jones' decision to reinstate ray rice from his indefinite suspend shore for violating the league's personal conduct policy in a incident of domestic violence, based on judge jones' decision, he will be eligible to play upon signing a new contract. >> well, the big box stores had their chance to woo shoppers deals on "black friday". and happening today, small business saturday, a chance to bring bargains from the malls to main street. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is on main street in manayunk with all of the details. steve, are you getting any good deals out there today? >> good morning, nicole. yes, you know what? i think if i'm not mistake then is missile tow. probably not. well, welcome to small business saturday. here live on main street. this is manayunk. it is a shop called latitude and longitude. beautiful store here. you see a lot of trinkets, kind of described as a gift

shop. it has got everything. it is very ac check particular. my mom would love this store. and it smells just really nice, a loft flowery smells in here. but the reason why we're here is because obviously this is a small business on a main street in what's considered kind of small town america. and, you know, obviously "black friday" doesn't cover a place like this. so, years ago, few years ago, small business saturday came into creation, and it really benefits a place like this, right, meredith? this is merit the owner. so how did your store start? how did this all come together? >> so 15 years ago, i was i was a customer here. i fell in love with the place. and i became an employee and after that about three years ago i became the owner and i haven't left ever since. just love it. it is home. >> and that's the thing. these aren't big boxes, this is small local thing, benefits local, most of the stuff in here, you said, is actually made in the country. >> yes. >> and it benefits the local

community. so, what is small business saturday for maybe for people who don't get it? >> small business saturday focuses on all of the small businesses that are across the country, and a lot of people don't get to see usually, and it just kind of focuses on us local, you know, specially in manayunk, we have a lot of things here, and a lot of businesses. >> sure. and i mean there is no lines out the door. you're not having a big block buster sales, right. so what exactly -- how does it benefit i guess the customer? >> benefits the customer because they're shopping small. and it is my normal regular customers who come in all the time, and it is just happy, a good place to see their face and it benefits them because the people to people basically. >> i want that. isn't that great? like the spirit of giving. it is what the holiday season is really b you come in, you

shop local, you get anything you need and you see the local community. and that's what small business saturday is about, coming up at 6:30, we'll talk more about this special day and why it is such a different kind of reaction to "black friday" and how it benefits a place like. >> this we send it back to you, nicole. >> all right, small business saturday, steve, thanks so much. by the way the mall and the big retailers will be re-opening in just a few hours, as women, trying to get their piece of the pie, as well. now, many of them were open from thanksgiving straight through "black friday". "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt spoke with some tired shoppers. >> i wasn't planning oncoming shopping. my daughters twisted my arm and got me out here. >> but, in the end, at the kay said she glad she came out on "black friday" at the depford mall. though, this "black friday", looked a little different. >> as bad as you thought were the crowds? >> not add bad. >> found lot of people, not the usual crowds, where it is hard to walk. one reason may be because local malls opened 6:00 thursday night and stayed open straight through 10:00 o'clock friday night.

>> been working since 7:00 p.m. on thanksgiving. >> you heard that right. we met carly sips on her 23rd hour of work. she has three jobs, and says, it was her choice to pull the marathon shift. >> i heard a -- i've had a lot of caffeine. couple double shots of expresso. >> says opening thanksgiving day is a big problem. >> it ruins the tradition. you know, traditionally the way the way it is supposed to be done, day after thanksgiving, you go, you get excited 6:00 in the morning. >> now if you get to a place at 6:00 in the morning, you may have missed out on your chance to find that low price. >> i used to work at target. and we used to get tons of people in the morning. now that rush isn't there no more. there is no more fun to it. >> some say opening the night before is a good thing. because the new "black friday" may mean less people. >> i thought it was going to be like a lot, a lot of people. like i thought it was going to be like thousands of people. but it is not really bus. >> and for your complete

>> two cousins had been builds ago snow fort, when a snow plow pushed snow up against t a police officer saw their shovel. started digging for them. the boys say they did everything they could to break free. >> me and my cuss written building a fort in the snow. we got into it for a few minutes, then the hope top of the fort fell on us. motivating each other to not go to sleep. keep yelling. keep moving our body. trying to break out. >> wow, some smart little boys. now, eyewitnesses say the police officers who pulled them out of is that snow bank got a round of applause.

cold, how about making snow? we can do that, and they're doing it, up at have jack frost big boulder. they've had great couple of mornings to do this. this is really, if you ski, you probably love this site. if you don't ski, you might think oh, no, when that starts to come into our area, we're not finding that today, though. do you have make the snow today to have it. unless you're in the poconos, where there is also a chance every picking up some of the real stuff, the mother nature snow. but it is a light snow, if you did see that. 16 degrees, that's the temperature right now, out of nazareth. up near the allentown area, cold start to the day. not just there, but as you saw with our neighborhood weather watchers, it is cold in every single location. few clouds are starting to come into the area right now. but they didn't come in overnight. so, with the clear skies overnight, that's why these temperatures dropped as much as they did. few snow showers, out through central pennsylvania. if you're headed out early this morning, 23 out in lancaster right now, we've got 22 degrees in reading. twenty-six in dover. 27 degrees in wilmington.

it is 26 degrees out at the airport, in philadelphia, and 27 degrees down in wildwood. 20 degrees in atlantic city. that's not right on the ocean, but about 10 miles inland at the airport there. and 20 degrees in trenton. the temperatures so cold, and 16 in quakertown, and if you're in mt. holly, you've got 20 degrees this morning, 24 willow grove, 19 degrees in pottstown, it is a morning that you will be in a lot of layers. ski pants, whether you ski or not, take my own personal experience, they're so warm, they're the best. they're something that you should buy if you're going to be spending any time outside even not looking for snow it, will keep the cold away greatly. and these temperatures, this morning, so much colder, even than yesterday morning. 11 degrees colder down in millville, through the heart of south jersey. it is 8 degrees colder through philadelphia. 9 degrees colder up in the allentown area this morning. so, when you are out, jackets on, and pets in. let them watch you out the window. we are looking right now, if you're traveling today, few

caucasion barbie and ken. mattel told butler she could buy it separately, but that will cost more. >> want to pay two times what the caucasion parent would pay to have the convertible and barbie and kennan it will be three separate boxes instead of it being in a gift set that they made exclusively for caucasian bash. >> i we found another child's christmas wish for an african-american barbie on this giving tree in new jersey. soy, we searched on line retailers like target.com where there are more than 600 dolls, 30 of which are african-american. and we went inside stores, like toys "r" us, where similar story, row afro of caucasion dolls with a few african-american dolls inbetween. >> it makes me feel hurt as a parent. because i have to tell my child, no, she can't get something she really wants. >> we wanted to know if the reason that you see a limited selection of african-american dolls on store aisles like this one is because the stores aren't buying them? or simply because the manufacturers aren't making them? on line we found mattel makes

"eyewitness news", found, armed loaded with bags, and couches with tired shoppers. they say it was all worth tkop opens again at 9:00. well, similar scene in willow grove.

chopper three over the mall there. stores there closed last night, but the shopping has started thanksgiving night at 6:00. plenty of customers showed to up take advantage of the deals and that mall opens again at 8:00 this morning. non-stop. well, hey there is was a scene at the toys "r" us in cherry hill. digital tablet and frozen theme dolls are some of the hot items this year. the toy store was working on marathon day, it opened at 5:00 thursday night, closed at 11:00 last night. ♪ >> outside the gallery mall in center city, about 30 protesters, encouraged shoppers to boycott "black friday" in honor of michael brown. the latest protest in philadelphia, since monday's grand jury decision, not to indict ferguson, missouri police officer, darren wilson for the shooting death of the un arm teenager. police say the demonstration was peaceful. well, protests continued overnight across the country. they followed day of unrest, designed to disrupt holiday

shopping. cbs news core upon dent chris van cleve in ferguson, where more arrests were made overnight. >> unrest returned, to ferguson, missouri late friday night, as police clashed with protesters. demonstrators are told to stay out of the street. they went back into the street in front of police headquarters, officers moved in, and started making arrests. >> i have traffic flowing from both directions which obviously creates a traffic hazards, endangers motorists and people out on the road way. >> at least one bottle thrown at officers and several demonstrators are taken away by police. escalation followed day of protests across the country aimed at disrupting "black friday" shopping. a couple hundred protesters marched through the gal rhea mall outside st. louis, briefly shutting it down on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. police stood by, but did not interfere. even when the protesters laid down on the grounds. some stores closed their security gate, but others

welcomed the crowd. >> i'm just so happy that people are this dedicated to come out, you know, and not worry about the sale that you can get. >> there were similar protests around the country. in new york city ... oakland, and chicago, as demonstrators vowed to continue to voice their anger. chris van cleve, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> "black friday" isn't just for americans any more. retailers in london were offering "black friday" deals and at some stores the crowds were down right chaotic. >> all right, you can see, the pushing, the shoving at this one store, which by the way is owned by wal-mart. in manchester, police arrested at least two people. a woman at one store was even injured by a falling television. her injuries, thank goodness, were not serious. well, sad story here. tragedy inside a packed chicago department store. police say a man opened fire

inside this nordstrom retailer friday night, shooting his girlfriends, then turning the gun on himself. the man whose identity has not been released was found dead on location. the female was a seasonal employee at that store. she is in critical condition right now. and though the gunshot caused panic, police say, customers and other employees were never at risk. well, we now know the identity after gunman who fired more than 100 rounds at downtown buildings in austin, texas this week. though his motive at this point remains unclear, larry mcwilliams was shot and killed after confrontation with officers friday morning. the 49 year old also tried to set the mexican consolate on fire. no one was hurt, police say, mcwilliams has criminal record, it is not known if mcwilliams was killed by police or if he took his own life. philadelphia police meanwhile are looking for a man who stole a laptop computer out after van. it happened around 9:30 wednesday morning, 900 block of north second street. police say the suspect shattered the driver side window, then he stole a blue

"eyewitness news", at the blue cross river rink, opened for business friday. this year, winter fest will be open all winter long, you can take a break from skating and enjoy some food, and drinks, even warm up by the fire pit. and carol, i understand you did that yesterday, last night, right? >> yes, i was out there yesterday. as it opened, the ice ring, the only regulation outside ice ring, i guess, in philadelphia, i know a lot of little pop up ones, but this is a full regulation size. so you can fall in many locations over very wide area of ice. our weather watch verse been up. they're up and out. how about a 15 degrees temperature, and that's, you know, not the only place. eileen murray is out in gilbert ville. and she says the cold wakes you up, as soon as you step outside. and i know that if you have been outside, at all today, you completely agree with weather watch err eileen. and budd bender clear and cold

in trappe this morning. and it is clear and cold in just about every single location, here is 22 degrees temperature, that fran is talking about, and the dogs didn't want to go outside this morning. but, fran went with them. which is great. because he knew to bring them back in when you have got temperatures like this. let's go outside. but in the safety of being inside. and this is when we head to the shore. and there is the solitary figure walking down the boardwalk in ocean city, thinking wow, i wish it were summer. or maybe he's just contemplating life? looking at gray skies out there in a lot of locations, so not the brightest start to the day. but still, it is what we get at 25 degrees, the temperature out at the palmyra nature cove. see it is casino of gloomy look. few of the clouds came in overnight. i wish we had seen them earlier t would have kept the temperatures from dropping as low as they did overnight. notice, also, that the winds are at zero, which is another reason that we saw all of these temperatures, 39 degrees

yesterday, just we cut those in half in a lot of locations overnight. few snow showers, dying out, as they go. but still they're through central pennsylvania, we're watching few clouds come in here, and i think a day of probably little heavier on the clouds, than the sun breaks, but you'll hopefully eventually see every so often around here. but it will be a cool day today. high temperature getting no higher than about 40 degrees. 8 degrees, right now, in the poconos, it is 26 in philadelphia, it is 20 degrees at the shore. and notice, these winds, these calm winds. and those clear skies overnight, that's why we are dealing with this, this morning, 20 degrees in philadelphia, 26 in philadelphia, 20 in trenton, 26 in philadelphia, 27 degrees in wilmington. it is 28 down in wildwood. anywhere you go, you are going to be cold when you step outside the door this morning. now, if you're going to be travel today, not bad day to, if you decide to go home a day early, or you're here, and you're going someplace else, it is not bad. this is a look at noon today.

across the state. i think you'll be in fine shape going just about any place you want to go by the time we hit 10:00 tonight could there be string he will, snow flurry, up through the poconos? possible, according to this computer model. and then, as we go to the overnight time period, also, probably, not a bad time to get out either. because it should be relatively quiet. tomorrow, though, by the time we hit sunday evening, we've got some rain showers, that's out through the great lakes. they start to move into western pennsylvania. around pit burying. that's early on monday. and then they start to make their track across our area. we may be encountering some showers monday evening, you could be finding a little bit colder temperature to the north. that's why maybe a snow shower there. and then, later on monday, are there few showers scattered around philadelphia? could you find a batch of snow out through the central portion of the state? that's possible. so, just know, you have got decent weekends to get out, do anything, including small business saturday. if you are going to be out shopping, of course, it is cold outside.
