minding his own business heading to get groceries and that's when he says a group of teenagers attacked him. good evening everyone. i'm natasha brown. thanks so much for joining us tonight. >> that victim is talkin talkins conclusively with "eyewitness news". police are hoping surveillance cameras in the area of 20th and oregon in south philadelphia will help them in their search for the suspects. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers spoke exclusively with the victim tonight who says his frightening ordeal could happen to anyone. >> reporter: natasha the victim tells us that he parked parked his van along the 1900 block of oregon before 6:00 p.m. on saturday. he was going to get groceries. when he left his van he had for got 10 his wallet april side the glove compartment. when he turned around to go get it he saw the group of people rushing towards him. >> he asked that we not identify him for fear of retaliation. but he described what happened next. >> they ran toward me and bomb rushed me, hit me, symptommed

and me and kicked knee in my head. >> reporter: pinned down to the sidewalk and surrounded there was little he could do. >> like this. try not putting my fists up but trying to protect myself. i was trying to stay alive. i was doing the best to protect myself. nervous, scared. >> reporter: eventually a bystander comes over to help and the victim says the group scattered. he went home and filed a police report midday on sunday. the victim says all he wanted to do was go grab some groceries before heading home for the night but instead his nursing bumps and bruises across his body after the alleged attack. >> it's a question if you're at the wrong place at the wrong time. it can happen anywhere. >> reporter: you think it was completely random? >> y. >> reporter: police are continuing to investigate this case by trying to elect any surveillance video of that alleged attack. as well as trying to locate any witness that is could come forward. no suspects have been identified so far. we're in south philadelphia, matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

♪ >> developing now the fbi is aiding in the search for a missing west chester university student shane montgomery. this as we learn the reward has now been increased to $15,000. shane was last seen leaving a bar early thanksgiving morning. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells us today teams turned their attention to the manayunk canal. >> reporter: this is what day four looks like in the search for shane montgomery. >> seven guys in yellow jump suits with the grim task of poking the manayunk canal a few hundred times. with all the optimism she could muster shane's mother watched. >> it's upsetting to know that this is what they have to do but it's also -- i can't express my gratitude to the police department, um, and anybody that's been helping with this search. >> reporter: marine unit started wading the boardwalk shortly after 10:00 sunday morning with crowd gathers at every point along the way, they painstakingly searched for any

sign. >> just to give you an idea how long this process may take you see the seven member crew behind mirror they are stretched out the entire width of the canal poking and prodding every inch and they can't see to the bottom so they have to stop every few minutes in case they feel something or get an idea that something might be there. i spoke to the commander. he says this may take somewhere in the area of five hours. >> i'm not giving up any kind of hope. i'm going to find shane today report roar his uncle and godfather kevin summarize the spirit of a family that won't quit. >> no one disappears like this. and like i said we'll find him today. >> reporter: even as they much what this for hours, shane's loved ones convinced they'll see his smile again. >> i want to find shane and i want to bring him home. >> reporter: in manayunk, steve patterson cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> well philadelphia international airport says today is its biggest travel day of the year. everyone who journeyed to thanksgiving table is heading home. more than 95,000 people made their way through philadelphia international today.

"eyewitness news" at 30th street station which was packed with passengers waiting to load up their luggage for the trip home. >> fortunately the wither did cooperate with travelers in the area. a mild end to the long holiday weekend and it's only going to get warmer. meteorologist justin drabick is live on the cbs-3 sky deck with first look at this forecast. i like this, justin. natasha, it's actually pretty mill outside right now. temperatures almost 60 degrees here in philadelphia. so big difference what we were dealing with about 24 hours ago. but check it out. that temperature change again that's that sign of warming air moving in on in the warming trend continues. 18 degrees warmer right now in philadelphia compared to this time yesterday. seven in allentown a little bit colder up there because of the snow pack. some of the cold air still trapped into the lehigh valley. look at the temperatures. again allentown 38 degrees. stuck in the cold air but go to philadelphia at the airport 59.

50 in wilmington upper 40s in millville, new jersey. 55 near the shore in wildwood. some of the suburbs again closing in on 60 degrees this hour in mt. holly, new jersey and in northeast philly quakertown still colder in the 30s with some of that snow still on the ground. storm scan3 pretty quiet we have patchy clouds moving oh and threw actually see a bit of moon right now so again those clouds try to break up overnight. morning temperatures tomorrow really not that bad again unless you're across the northern suburbs temperatures should hold in the 30s but elsewhere from the city on south and east generally looking at 40s to around 50 degrees by the time you wake up monday morning. coming up in in the full forecast we'll talk about the milder temperatures on monday. how long they last and, yes, a little bit of light rain and even snow returning to the forecast this week. we'll get to that coming up in few minutes. natasha. >> justin, thank you stay on top of the forecast by don't lloyding the cbs-3 philly app available now on i tunes and google play. despite the chaos black friday sales aren't what they

minutes now, cyber monday begins. it's been the biggest online shopping day of the year sips 2010. consumers are expected to find the deepest discounts on apparel, electronics and health and beauty products. com score expects shoppers to spend $2.5 billion tomorrow alone. >> tonight, there are new details about the resignation of ferguson miss sorey police officer darren wilson. meantime the family of michael brown plans possible legal action. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: the mayor of ferguson, missouri says the city has severed its ties with former police officer darren wilson. and he's promising changes in the community. >> number one goal is to bring together our police department and our community. to bridge the gap between those who feel there is a divide between them and law epp force many. >> reporter: the mayor says wilson will not receive any severance including further pay or benefits. wilson resigned saturday.

less than week after a grand jury cleared him of any criminal charges for shooting and killing 118-year-old michael brown last august. wilson's lawyer says his client decided to resign after the city's police chief told him there were threats of violence against the department and its officers. >> they had gotten intelligence that suggested that there were going to be some targets at the ferguson police department. >> browns say wilson's resignation brings them no piece. >> this was not unexpected news. i think for the community or the family of michael brown, jr., we always felt officer wilson would do what was in his best interest both personally and professionally. >> reporter: also says the browns are still considering filing a civil lawsuit. support for demonstrates spread to the football field sunday. several st. louis rams players raised their arms in a hands up gesture that has come to symbolize the protests went dye gel let for cbs-3 eyewitness news. >> the official him for next year's world meeting of families

>> welcome back everyone. bracing for the storm. people living in southern california are putting sand bags down in areas near hillsides. much of the region was burned by wildfires over the summer and now the big concern is mudslides as heavy rains are forecasted over the next few days. a mudslide covered part of the pacific coast highway in malibu

and it also stranded about a dozen vehicles. >> a missing ohio state football player has been found dead reportedly of a self inflicted gunshot wound. police say 22-year-old kara george was found near campus. he was last seen at his apartment in columbus early wednesday when his roommate said he left to go on walk. his mother told authorities that he had several concussions and spells of being extremely confused. a couple meantime accused of of hiding a 13 year old boy behind a false wall for four years appeared in court today. the judge denied bail in this case. the boy is the man's son and he came to ba good to visit his dad in 2010 and his father refused to return him. the teen was rescued yesterday after he used a cell phone to send his mother a text message. the boy is now home finally with his mom. >> authorities at jfk airport in new york found nothing dangerous on an american airlines plane after a bomb threat was called

cbsphilly.com/what the watchers for all the detail. live look in center city looking at the ben franklin bridge. all is quiet. just a few clouds moving through. it's mild temperatures actually have risen over the past few hours but for the month of november so far we're almost done yet trying to tally up the numbers here. we'll end up being below average on the temperatures as of yesterday almost over 2.5 degrees below average for the month. precipitation is above average over an inch. that's good news there. certainly do need some of the rainfall it's been dry the past few months and temperatures have been on the extremes. we hit that 72-degree record high last week and we did make it down to 20 degrees one morning lot going on for this month. but here we are. 59 officially at the airport this hour. there's that colder air lehigh valley, berks county in the 30s. look what's happening to the south and west of us. 58 in washington. 62 in pittsburgh. there's a cold front to the west. so we're out ahead of it. some milder air continues to push on in. here's the setup.

that front still out over ohio. little thin line of showers moving eastward a lot of that moisture will begin to break up as it pushes into the delaware valley tomorrow. so just expect partly to mostly cloudy skies overnight into your monday. it's going to be mild upper 50s to maybe 60 degrees for monday afternoon depending on how much sunshine we do see. the front will move through. then it kind of stalls off the coast. little disturbance rides along that front. and there could be some colder air that moves in behind the front that kind of gets trapped at the surface so a period of light rain and even some snow in some parts of the area tuesday afternoon into tuesday evening it's very light. it's not a big storm system. were get another warm front that comes through for wednesday and temperatures rise back above average in the 50s. let's time the out for you. overnight, some clouds around okay start to your monday morning. the commute looks good. the front will come through late in the afternoon. there's some of that moisture to the south. you see rain moving back in he here. this is tuesday afternoon 4:00 o'clock. notice some snow tries to break out and some of those colder suburbs. especially up through the lehigh

valley and poconos tuesday evening. that warm air wins out as a warm front moves through and we turn over topline rain this will be light and we could see wet snow in some of those suburbs. near 60 for the highs. monday afternoon but they're the front much there's that drop in the temperatures. some of that cold air moves back in 30s for the suburbs to near 40 for a high here in philadelphia. for tuesday afternoon. but overnight mostly cloudy not as cold we drop to about 50 degrees. mild monday, partly sunny upper 50s possibly even 60 in some locations. here's the extended forecast. brief shot of colder air moves in for tuesday with a high near 40. there could be light rain in the afternoon. could be mixing with some snow especially north of the city. into once we go. milder, 52 degrees. a few showers possible. keep it dry for thursday. still hanging right around 50 and by the end of the week little bit cooler in the 40s were he some showers both friday and saturday. so no big storms this week. and little bit of up and down in the temperatures pretty much where we should be. >> we like tomorrow g thank you justin. appreciate that.

these faces and stories. where is therese vanderheiden-walsh? her case is truly a mystery. both of therese's parents were assigned to u.s. intelligence units working in hawaii. but when their marriage broke apart in 1987, therese's dad, francis walsh, was granted sole custody while therese's mom, merle vanderheiden, moved back to the mainland. merle made regular phone calls to therese, but was not permitted unsupervised visits with her daughter. then a bizarre development occurred in 1990. while six-year-old therese was at a day care center, a teacher noticed a woman wearing dark glasses near the grounds, and shortly thereafter, therese was reported missing. merle has subsequently been sighted in alabama, florida, louisiana, colorado, and texas, sometimes wearing wigs to disguise her identity. this age-progressed photo shows
