rain. the lets take a look what is had happening right now we will go back out to storm scan three and you can see line of rain oriented west to east, warm front lifting through tonight, heavier of the rain you can see there yellow shading back across indian, illinois and kentucky we will contend with as we get in the daze tomorrow. zooming in on our area let look at our quadruple sweeps here. heavier rain is autopsy cross north and western suburbs lancaster county, berks county and lehigh valley. is there pink up there as well, heading up toward poconos. the ice at the outset. temperatures are below freezing. as rainfalls it hits that frozen ground and leads to some ice and slippery spots. is there a winter weather advisory. we will look at that in just a moment. you can see mainly precipitation to our north tonight but generally light through overnight hours as we continue through overnight, we will see showers here and there but tomorrow morning starts off with a couple clouds, it is tomorrow afternoon we will see heavier rain, starts to move in here as we look at future weather and coming up we will time out that heavier rain and i'll

tell you how much will exactly fall and when we will salvage part of the weekend. we will talk more about that winter weather advisory when i join you inside. well, developing news right now philadelphia rap icon beanie segal is in the hospital after he was shot today in pleasantville atlantic county. our charlotte huffman is live outside the atlantic care regional medical center in atlantic city with the very latest, charlotte. >> reporter: chris, i just got off the phone with the police chief here in pleasantville. he said segal is in serious condition at the hospital. he is recovering from surgery. police are waiting for him to wake up so they can question him as to exactly what happened. >> we received 911 calls of shots fired in the area. >> reporter: this morning police responded to the pleasantville home of segal whose real name is dwight grant. >> shell casings, and ammunition found outside but when we, got to the house mr. grant was in the house, so at this point we don't know if the shooting took place outside and then he went in or

if the shooting took place in the house. >> reporter: police do know around 9:30 there was an altercation. >> whether it happened before or after we do not know. that why is we're hoping that mr. grant is able to speak to us and give us an account of what happened. >> reporter: police say segal's brother-in-law, was minorly injured. he has numerous felonies and refused to be treated or talk to police about what happened. >> it is a very quiet neighborhood, residential area, so something like this happening the neighbors are pretty concerned. so i want to be able to address their concerns by making an arrest. >> reporter: rapper was just released from prison in august after a serving two years for federal tax evasion. the philadelphia native has served time for federal weapons charges. his criminal record also includes conspiracy, and multiple will drug charges. this isn't the first time that the 40 year-old landed himself in the hospital from gunshot wound, in 2006 he was shot multiple times during a philadelphia robbery.

police did take one man into custody after car chase led them to believe that the driver may be connect to the shooting but the name of that man has in the been released by police tonight because they are still unsure and trying to determine whether or not this driver was in fact, involved. we are live in atlantic city, i'm charlotte huffman for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> charlotte, thank you. also developing a neighbor is under a arrest in connection with the fire that destroyed a police officer's house in commons drive-in lower pottsgrove. investigators say donna krup set the the fire yesterday morning while detective ernie morris and his family were on vacation in florida. she had a long running dispute with morris after he assisted in the reza of her back in june n november his vehicle was vandalized. he later installed a surveillance camera and video from that camera shows krup lighting the fire. neighbors can't believe that this happened on their street. >> it is first one out, and my wife called it in.

it was something i have never seen before. would i not like to see again. >> krup is charged with arson and being held on one million-dollar bail. black lives matters, black lives matters. >> reporter: raw emotion today at high schools all over philadelphia, as they continue calls for change in the wake of grand jury decision that is prompted claims of racism in the american justice system. they are angry no police officers were indicted in the deaths of michael brown in missouri and eric garner in new york. >> "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter joins us live from outside central high school in olney to tell us how they are getting that message across, walt. >> reporter: it could have been me, the words of event rally with high school senior marvin barnhill reflecting words and thoughts of a number of philadelphia high school students who protested this day, at five high schools around the city. >> three, two, one...

>> reporter: they dropped to the hallway laying silent at masterman high school. the die in protest in response to lessons about injustice that they say they are learning in the from textbooks but from headlines in ferguson, missouri and new york city. >> i'm like that could have been me. that could be me tomorrow, whether i'm doing something wrong or not. >> reporter: at central high students laid for four minutes and 30 seconds, symbolizing the four hours and 30 minutes michael brown's body lay on the street in ferguson. >> police officers should be treated like regular citizens and in the above the law. >> reporter: kensington, student walking out of two schools staged an impromptu but peaceful march through neighborhood streets, while other students at science leadership academy also showed their concerns. >> it is crazy because they are killing black people for no reason. they killed somebody because he was selling loose cigarettes outside his store. >> reporter: protesters say they are heartened both by the

the turnout and demonstrators including all races, raising their voices peacefully to confront injustice. >> it is a feeling of just being sad and just overwhelmed, but then it is a feeling have hope, power and change. we are trying to act on and make stronger. >> reporter: all of the protest where is peaceful, there were no incidents or arrests and there was only a very minimal if any disruption to educational activities at the schools. live from central high school in olney, i'm walt hunter, for cws3 "eyewitness news". find continuing updates on cbs philly.com. more police officers will be hitting the streets in south jersey, top law enforcement welcomed dozens of recruits to the force today. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan was there. >> reporter: working their final days as officers in training 68 recruits graduated from the camden county college police academy friday.

cops, we're actually out there to help him. >> you want to present yourself as somebody that people can come up to and approach and talk to so you can figure out problems are within if the community and make things right. >> reporter: with six months of training and now graduation complete officers begin a career, of learning how to serve and protect, balancing toughness with fairness. in blackwood i'm's cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". suspect karl white remains behind bars tonight. he is charge with the murder of the father of a nba player in germantown. police say white shot wayne ellington senior in the head during an argument on the 5200 block of marion street overnight. ellington was found inside of a car, he was father of l.a. lakers guard wayne ellington junior. this is an updated photo of white, philadelphia police and "eyewitness news" an incorrect photo yesterday. no charges will be filed in the central bucks west hazing scandal according to district attorney david heckler, he announced that his

office had received no evidence that would call for criminal charges. allegations first surfaced in october forcing the school to cancel remainder of it football season. head coach brian hensell was fired and his assistant coaches were suspended. there are new developments tonight in the search for missing west chester university student shane montgomery. >> dozens of volunteers were out again tonight but this time in popular bar areas beyond manayunk making a renewed plea for information for anyone going to the bar. it has now been eight taste since 21 year-old disappeared, but last seen leaving thanksgiving morning. >> how can a young man walk out of that door and no one sees him again. >> family would also like people on main street the night that shine disappeared to check their cell phones for photos that might be have of use in this investigation. is there still no word what spark fire that gutted this home in delaware county. we know fire fighters arrived in the 700 block of agoness

road in folsom just before 10:00 and they work from every and toll battle the fire. the extent was significant, you can see from chopper three. there were no reports of any injuries. the philadelphia police department's major crimes unit says it busted up a bank fraud scheme, "eyewitness news" in the 16th police district where officers showed off some items that they confiscated during this investigation. investigators alleged that suspects stole at least $30,000 from banks. police say they deposited fake checks into atm's and then withdrew on those accounts. three people have been arrested including this man 21 year-old raymond start. there is much more to come 5:69 including a national guard unit honored right here in philadelphia. we will show you hero welcome they received from catholic schools, south jersey is praying for a christmas miracle. i'm syma chowdhry and how they are trying to raise $250,000

new at 6:00 o'clock tonight a south jersey school is on a mission, their goal, to raise enough money to keep doors opened. >> as "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry tells us the st. paul's school in burlington has six weeks now to avoid closure. >> 's paul elementary school in burlington is on the verge of closing its doors, the parish sub dicing the 144 year-old school can no longer afford the expense. now the school has to raise $250,000 by january 15th. >> the original shock was, you know, oh, no and then, it was like we will not let this happen. >> reporter: prince william robbins says the school will remain opened until june but next school year is in jeopardy. >> we believe that we will do it. six weeks or not we can do it. >> my daughter said we have to

do something. >> reporter: st. paul is the only school kerry's two children have known. she and other parents will hold fundraisers hoping to fun the word. >> if the enrollment goes up, subsidy goes down. >> now they are hoping for a christmas miracle. some students are for going toys and asking santa for a donation instead. >> we just know that the money for school is more important than a couple extra christmas presents. >> reporter: so far the school has raised about $25,000, the donations are tax deductible and any donation that is $50 or more will be returned if the goal, it is not met but if that happens, the students will have to find a new place to learn. >> i don't want to have to start a new school where i don't know anybody, teachers don't know me. wouldn't be the same. >> reporter: now they are praying to save the school. >> there is such a thing as christmas miracle. >> reporter: miracle that will make sure this hallway won't stay empty. in burlington, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

there were cheers and tears as u.s. army national guard unit finally returns home from afghan >> "eyewitness news" was there a a wrong with loved ones and members of the hero's welcome, as the part of that unit arrived at philadelphia international airport. others in that group flew into pittsburgh happy to celebrate the holidays at home. it has been a gray, damp, glummy friday most heavy rain held off for now but we are seeing steady rain push in the north and western suburbs. lets check our weather watchers and see what they are seeing outside. we will start with kevin, in hatboro, reporting rain and 42 degrees. chilly outside. 37 degrees. schwanksville, 37 with some rain being reported by doug faith. and in the state of delaware we will check with lease, reporting 43 degrees in wilmington delaware.

just some clouds. light rain showers but very damp cool evening and we will check with someone in new jersey now, alex brownsky in mays landing reporting 47. cloud cover. he has a high of 52 and a lose of 36 with some rain. if you love weather, you can be featured by becoming an eyewitness weather watcher. sign up at cbs philly.com/watchers. lets go to one spot that is under a winter weather advisory tonight. this is poconos region. you can see rain drops on the camera at jack frost big boulder and slopes may bized over as temperatures are below freezing. rain is falling. as it hits that frozen ground you can see icy spots out here not only on the slopes but on the roads as well. you can see that, happening on storm scab three, you can see that pink shading, and that indicates freezing rain or sleet. that is where we expect it to stay in the far north and western suburbs. heavier of the rain are are in lancaster county but heavier rain still yet to come, way down here over portions of the mid south and mississippi valley. that will head through our

area tomorrow afternoon. here's that advisory for carbon and monroe counties until 1:00 a.m. you can see most of the rain slight and spotty, starting to lift to the north. we will start tomorrow on a generally quiet note but tomorrow midday that the heavy rain hushes through. by 4:00 p.m. we have heavy rain pushing in philadelphia and suburbs. maybe a rumble of thunder or two. 7:00p m in south jersey and dell will wear and tarts to taper off and clears out by about midnight tomorrow night. so your rain timing will do it in the text version, if that is how you like to look ate, cloudy and cool, saturday morning clouds, a lull, light rain, and heavier and steadier rains is saturday afternoon. then we have to change our attention to net week by tuesday the storm moves up the coast, bringing threat for heavy rain and wind tuesday and may end up as snow north and west. we will keep a close eye on that tuesday into wednesday. overnight tonight cloudy skies a few showers, 41 is our low, for your saturday periods of rain, mild, breezy, 55, rain heavier in the afternoon and

evening, luckily it is warm enough we are talking all rain and in the slow or ice in philadelphia we will clear it out. sunday chilly but dry. see that brisk northeast wind there as ten to 20 miles ab hour, 44 at kick off, sun will be setting and nice looking out there with the storm departing out to sea. again periods of rain saturday, dry sunday and machine but chilly. tuesday rain and wind and then time period to watch is tuesday night into wednesday morning some models suggesting that snow is possible and especially to the north and west, we have a close eye on that ape keep you posted and just cold again wednesday and cold again thursday and getting a little bit better back to the mid 40's by friday. >> thanks very much. so far in the i good afternoon for schuylkill expressway at 6:19. we will go outside and check out schuylkill around girard. this is eastbound lane where there was an earlier accident that shut down all lanes and then that cleared out and disabled vehicle.

there is a a delay to that. so eastbound where you can see that delay. forty-two freeway in new jersey not doing too good either. northbound lanes you can see police activity really slamming up the north bound lanes heading toward 295 and possibly philadelphia and surrounding area bridges. south bun size at this time is looking okay. otherwise in new jersey this is just beyond that camera that we cannot see route 42 southbound at 295, two left lanes block due to an accident there. now i-95 southbound a approaching the blue route moved to the shoulder, it is an accident with police activity due to an injury and everything on that scene. route 30 westbound at 113, another accident right lane block there outside downingtown. now blue route northbound from 95 in the schuylkill expressway that is a 30 minute trip and seven minutes on 202 heading southbound from the schuylkill expressway into route 30. back over to you. >> thanks very much.
