>> breaking news at 11:00. a string of sexual assaults on college students. and right now police have a person in custody after an attack that happened just hours ago. good evening, i'm jessica dean. chris may is off tonight. >> these attacks are happening in the university city area. let's get right to reporter natasha brown life at southwest detectives with breaking

information that's still unfolding right now. natasha? >> reporter: yes, we are learning new information even at this hour. we can tell you right now that a 55 year old man is currently in police custody here at southwest detectives tonight caught in the act of attacking a woman this evening at 41st and pine and now police believe he may also be linked to at least four other attacks on college students just in the past week. another woman attacked this time at 41st and pioneer the campus of the university of pennsylvania. another case that striking fear in the hearts of students. >> it's terrifying. it's not great feeling knowing you cannot be safe in your own neighborhood. >> that's really scary. i mean i would advise caution. >> reporter: there have been several attacks near university of pennsylvania's campus just in the past week. the latest assault happened at 6:30 thursday evening a woman walking alone along pine street is hit from behind with a bicycle lock. >> strikes her in the back of the head with a bicycle lock and demands her purse.

there's nine uniform officers in the area because of recent rash of robberies occurring. they see the offender dragging the victim about 50 yards. they immediately jump out of the car and are able to rescues her. >> philadelphia police, university of pennsylvania and drexel police statue saturate sd the air stepping up patrols in light of recent a assaults. a woman is attacked and escapes her attacker at 41st and samson a woman is sexually assaulted at 47th and chestnut on monday. police believe the man now in custody may be linked to all of these cases including two broad daylight indecent assaults on drexel's campus thursday afternoon. >> at this point we have him definitiveldefinitively linked r jobs. two from today on drexel with indecent assaults by clothing. robbery today where he's seen by officers grabbing this young lady. pulling her down the street and robs her.

>> reporter: we can tell that you all five of these victims are college students either u penn or drexel university students. meantime, the 55-year-old man now in custody will certainly be charged with the robbery and attack on the 38-year-old u penn graduate student from this evening at 41st and pine while police continue to investigate his alleged involvement in these other assaults. we're live at southwest detectives to night, natasha brown cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> natasha, thank you. more breaking news now. this out of wissonoming where 13 year old was shot. police say he was inside his home sitting at the dining room table when this happened. a 34-year-old man was on the porch. the suspects attempted to rob that man and that's when he ran into the house and tried to shut the door. shots were fired through the door and the teen was hit. that teenager was taken to saint christopher's hospital. his condition is stable tonight. >> the 34-year-old resident was able to slam the front door on these two perpetrators while shots were being fired.

at least one of the shots went through the front door. the 13 year old boy was on the first floor in the living room at the time when he got struck in the stomach. >> the suspects are still at large. we're dealing with wintry weather moving through parts of the area right now. snow showers causing some icy concerns out there. meteorologist kathy orr is tracking the latest round of winter weather. what can we expect tonight, kathy. >> a few more snow showers. this should be the last round of that nor'easter impacting our region. take look at this. even snow on the boardwalk in ocean city. you don't really see that often when you have some snow squalls mainly to the north and west this one made it all the way down the shore, and right now we are seeing the squall lifting north of ocean city. it is in atlantic city on storm scan3 you can see the wide circulation around our nor'easter. right now in northern maine. but the moisture still making it down into the delaware valley traveling hundreds of miles with some scattered snow squalls earlier to the north and west of

philadelphia right now though in south jersey and salem and cumberland counties and also in atlantic county this dark purple area really intense band near galloway, estelle manor, egg harbor right along the atlantic city expressway into atlantic city and this expected to lift toward the north and really dissipate later on tonight. temperatures below freezing in reading, and lancaster and the poconos at freezing in allento allentown. so any snow that falls will be sticsticking on area roads specy those untreated surfaces so for the overnight areas of low snow where we see some intense banding still less than an inch and mainly on the grassy surfaces but once those temperatures fall below freezing, it will be sticking everywhere. watch out for some icy roads, some black ice and reduce the visibility where we see that heavier snow. it will become fewer and far between during the early morning hours toward tomorrow morning. you can see the temperatures slowly rising. but for that early morning wake up call, some icy roads as temperatures will still be below freezing and those wind chills staying in the 20s right through

the morning. the good news is, the sun returns and temperatures will warm in the seven day more on that coming up later in the broadcast. jess? >> all right, kathy, thank you. with all of that in mind you'll be seeing snow covered roads hi like this one across the area. david snapped this eyewitness cam photon a back road north of pottstown in montgomery county want you see tonight depends on where you live. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is checking on conditions in bucks county. >> reporter: snow continued to fall in warminster and the surrounding areas. as temperatures dipped near the freezing mark. residents say crews spent the day clearing the roads. >> they do a good job up here. >> reporter: chris tells "eyewitness news" she is used to the snow. slick roads have her paying extra close attention. >> this morning i was petrified only a small coating of snow which is sometimes worse than a couple inches of snow. >> reporter: we checked. no issues on the main roads but eric says he drove over some side roads that are probable let

me spots. >> slipping and sliding around this morning. first thing in the morning was a little slick. but they cleaned them up. you can see the salt they spread down street road. >> we spoke to penndot officials they say they'll have between 20 and 22 strucks out overnight until the morning making sure all of the roads are taken care of. roaring from feasterville, david spunt, cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> new information tonight in a story we brought you on tuesday at 11:00 o'clock. police have issued arrest warrants for the men they believe broke into the coin and collectible store on street road in bensalem tuesday afternoon. investigators believe it was daniel left lar and david pier grossi armed with a knife an pipe tied up employees and a customer and got away with $5,000 in gold and silver coin. this vehicle was seen leaving the scene. if you know where they they are, call police. >> new tonight demonstrators in philadelphia are once again protesting the grand jury decisions in ferguson, missouri

"eyewitness news" was there as dozens marched from 52nd and market to 48th and walnut in west philadelphia tonight. protesters are calling for reforms to the criminal justice system after the grand jury's failed to indict police officers in the deaths of unarmed citizens michael brown and eric garner. the decisions have sparked protests across the country. >> mayor michael nutter records a message to philadelphia police officers the police commissioner felt was so important he ordered it played at every role call. >> only use force if absolutely necessary. don't abuse your authority. smartly trying to dee escalate or camp down dangerous situations and protect yourself and our citizens at all times. >> nutter expressed gratitude for their service and said he felt it was necessary to remind officers about the value of the community and police relationship in light of what's happened in ferguson and new york city. the police commissioner says he approves. >> it's an important message

that at this point in history they need to hear. he came to me with the idea and we talked about it, and um, the next day he's filming. >> we're told the message will be played for the next few days and also be posted on the department's internet. meanwhile, the philadelphia police department is sharing new information about a body camera pilot program in the 22nd district. 31 officers have volunteered to test several different models for sick months. officers must notify the public they're being recorded by the camera. the department sees body cameras as a tool in their efforts to be transparent and build trust in the community. >> haven't had any problem. just getting started. pretty much we we tell somebody they're being recorded everything pretty much so far has been going as normal and for us just only difference we don't do anything different other than say that they're being recorded. >> after six months, commissioner ramsay will evaluate the program and then determine the best way to implement it. a guilty verdict today in

the murder of philadelphia police officer moses walker, jr. raphael jones was found guilty of murder and attempted robbery by a judge in the mon non-jury trial. officer walker was approached by two men affidavit leaving his shift at the 22nd police district in north philadelphia in august 2012. prosecutors say this happened so fast he didn't have time to pull his gun. >> congress is working late tonight to pass a new spending bill and avert a government shut down. the house approved the $1.1 trillion spending plan a short time ago. the senate is now working to do the same by midnight. president obama says he will sign the legislation if it reaches his desk. this spending bill will fund the government through september 30th. the director of the cia is defending his agency saying its reviews the interrogation program produced useful intelligence.

>> back on "eyewitness news" now with storm trying the west coast from central california north to washington state. some houses weren't just flooded they were washed away. near hurricane force winds churned up huge waves on lake tahoe and they knocked down trees damaging property and leaving residents stranded in the dark. >> i didn't have power. i couldn't get my car out of the garage. i have no food. i have no cash. and so i'm trying to porridge

for something. >> after a three-year drought the ground soaked up much of the rain and reservoirs had room to catch the run off. rain continued through the night in many locations and forecasters say more storms are headed their way next week. now to a dramatic rescue caught on camera in florida. good samaritans rescue a 92-year-old man from a sinking car in port st. louis see. one man smashed the rear window and unlock the door while another man pulled the victim out of the car. at that time the victim didn't have a pulse. those good samaritans performed cpr on the victim and brought him back to life. police think he had a medical emergency prior to that car going into the water. >> another bill cosby accusor has come forward. model beverly johnson is adding her name to the list of women accusing the comedian of drugging or sexually assaulting them in the '70's and '80s. in an interview with vanity fair, johnson details an end count she says she had with cosby while auditioning for the cosby show.

johnson says cosby gave her a cappucino and claimed she became woozy her speech became slurred and the room began to spin. johnson says she wrote the essay after seeing fellow model janice dicks kin son criticized for coming forward to say cosby assaulted her. no comments from his lawyer. >> a philadelphia lawmakers wants the cities colleges to adopt a yes means policy on sexual consent. no means no requires rape victims to show they said no. both parties engaged in sexual activity must give on-going affirmative conscious and volunteer consent. reynolds brown will hold hearings in january. >> they have to put a paradigm shift no means no to yes means yes. before we can get to where california is we need to first listen and see what's in place

at our area colleges and universities. >> supporters of the policy say it shifts the burden off victims and compels colleges to more thoroughly investigate sexual assault allegations. philadelphia city council is again debating the merits of paid sick leave. councilman bill green lee proposed new bill that would require companies with 10 or more employees to offer workers five paid sick days per year. companies with less than 10 employees would be required to offer five unpaid sick days. green lee says this bill is close to what the mayor's task force is recommended. opponents say many small businesses can't afford to offer that many sick days and that adding the measure could drive businesses out of the city. a lay away angel is responsible for bringing holiday cheer to dozens of families. >> lay way has been paid off for you. >> oh -- >> absolutely. >> managers at the toys r us in massachusetts say a woman walked in recently and paid for $20,000

pictures that can say a thousand words. we'll take look at them but first here's a few numbers. 30 degrees right now in willow grove. not much of a wind that's the good news. the pressure is rising and that means that our storm system that nor'easter is slowly losing its icy grip on our region. how about 34 degrees right now in south jersey. joey is saying in somerdale, 34 with relative humidity of 67%. a cold night in somerdale but no snow. here's a look at some of the great pictures from our weather watchers today. start off with a mean in a. she's in upper darby. she says a little bit of a coating on those grassy surfaces during the day today. elsewhere, just 29 minutes ago in bethel snow coming down pretty hard where they picked up inches of snow over the past couple of days. and i love this one much this is from spike in trenton and he says, this is a snow tease. earlier today holiday flurries had this snowman convinced they soon would be joined by new friends. not enough snow yet.

it's a little bit late. usually we see that first snow somewhere around november 14t november 14th. it wasn't eventful at least we got that one under our belts. right now in philadelphia 34. 34 in wilmington. freezing in allentown and in reading we are seeing some of that snow sticking even in quakertown. 32 some snow covered roads in pottstown. be aware of icy conditions in willow grove and doylestown the temperature 30. icy spots there as well. storm pulls away, we see sunshine tomorrow for a change. haven't seen that since the weekend. saturday temperatures in the 40s. sunday even better near 50. and looking good for the eagles game as well. overnight look for low temperature of 30 wind chills will be in the 20s tomorrow the high 42. the sun will be a welcomed change for the birds it will be cold but at least it will be d dry. sunday night kick off 8:30 game time temp 40 degrees. and nothing in the way of wind. that's good news as well. on the seven day forecast, we're looking at improving weekend. next week 50 on monday, 50 on tuesday.
