today is sunday december 14th good morning, thanks for joining us, i'm nicole brewer, it is 7:01. let's toss it over to carol for more on the forecast. >> not a bad start to the day, we have clouds in some areas but day will be very quiet, people can get out do whatever you need to do on a sunday if you have to put holiday lights or done some of your shopping or just been outside to enjoy nature just yet this december, not a bad time to do it. we will take a look at ocean city there are a few clouds outside and they are not going to cut down much of the temperatures. temperatures are not very sun dependent anyway, we have readings in the 30's there right now, a few clouds in kutztown, 38 degrees, wind calmer then they were yesterday about 2 miles an hour at this point. we have a day that will be shaping up nicely. there are a few clouds and they are moving over the area, expect to find sun breaks and clouds are not so thick in most locations you cannot enjoy the the day. we have 40 degrees at the airport in philadelphia we have cracked out of the 30's

and we are heading in the 40's. thirty-seven in trenton. 36 degrees in wilmington. thirty-one in atlantic city. it has just dropped there and continues to be 31 degrees in the poconos. as we head to the north we have got 37 in quakertown. thirty-nine pottstown. willow grove is 34. in burlington county mount holly, 37. our temperatures by noon 44, by 3:00 p.m. in the mid to upper 40's and sky conditions, should be fine, there will be a few clouds around at times but hopefully we will get some sun breaks as well. quiet week i think for the most part and we will fill in the blank on the for the most part that is coming up, nicole. >> carol, thank you. new this morning philadelphia police are investigating a serious accident that sent two officers to the hospital. "eyewitness news" on the scene around 3:00 a.m. at frankford avenue at seller street where investigators say a pennsylvania patrol wagon was involve with the crash with another car. those officers are in stable condition this morning.

fire fighter rescued four people from a burning home in germantown, flames broke out around 1:00a mountain on the the first floor of the home on east colter street. fire fighters say several people were trapped on the roof when they a arrived on the scene there one person was taken to the hospital, investigators are working to determine what spark the flames. delaware county family is dealing with the loss of the loved one after a house fire. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live in lower chichester with more on how neighbors are stepping into help this family, same, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, nicole. not only neighbors stepping in but neighbor tried helping the family, he rescued several children that were stuck inside this home behind me but sadly their grand in mother did not make it out alive. other neighbors are helping the family pick up the pieces. this fire was captured on cell phone video, you could see flames shooting out of the house. >> it is a tragedy. >> reporter: fire started just a after 7:00 a.m. saturday on

the 100 block of fromfield avenue in lower chichester. self people were trapped inside the home including children. a mother and two of her kids were in the front yard frantic as their siblings their father and their grand in mother were still inside. >> i ran over my bear socks half dressed to try to get to the top step and i seen fire coming from the bottom steps coming up. i knew there were kids inside. >> reporter: nicholas wells lived next door and raced over to help. he heard those trapped inside and broke basement windows to get them out. with the children safe he helped pull their father through the the window. sadly the grandmother didn't make it out. neighbors have rallied together collecting donations to help the family. >> i feel sorry for the family, i was able to get over to the the family to get my condolences and tell them my thoughts and prayers are with them and their family as well.

>> reporter: father and several children were taken to the hospital. right now investigators are still trying to figure out what caused this fire. we are live from lower chichester syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". syma, thank you. flags will be lowered to half staff at philadelphia mourns first female fire fighter kill in the line of duty. >> fire fighters line the streets to pay their final respects to lieutenant joyce craig. the 11 year fire veteran was killed trying to save a life in west oak lane tuesday morning. hundreds gathered to pay tribute and honor her services. >> when you lose one, it effects everyone, because we are family. >> she died a hero, it is a beautiful thing, to actually to have known joyce. >> philadelphia's mayor michael nutter posthumously promoted craig to lieutenant and ordered flags at half staff for the the next 30 days.

the philadelphia fire department also took to social media to remember lieutenant joyce craig, they tweeted this photo of crews battling the fire, they also included this caption quote we will continue to honor memory of lieutenant craig by doing what we do, protecting our community. they used hash tag dedication and services. well, tens of thousands of protesters angry over police killings of unarmed black men marched a across america to demand action. one of the largest demonstrations was in washington where thousands of people, joined the mothers of michael brown and trayvon martin for a march in the capitol. protesters want lawmakers to make reforms to the the justice system. washington d.c. police report that the protests was in fact, peaceful. estimated 25,000 people marched in new york city, and slowed traffic in manhattan but was also peaceful. nypd say protesters on the bridge assaulted two officers though when police tried to arrest a man who was attempting to toss a garbage

can. demonstrators outraged over grand jury decisions not to indict officers involved in the eric garner and michael brown cases. 7:07. still no sign of shane montgomery more than two weeks after his disappearance. on saturday, philadelphia police marine unit resumed their search on the schuylkill river. west chester university student vanished thanksgiving morning after leaving kildares pub on main treat in manayunk. surveillance video reportedly shows montgomery walking across the bridge over manayunk can ol and towards a parking lot near the river. police continue their search for a gunman after a shooting in north philadelphia, two men were arguing at north 17th and west york street. police say gunman shot the victim six times. victim a 49 year-old man was now in critical condition. a spending bill is on its way to president obama after passing the the senate, $1.1 trillion plan will fund government for nine months. the as wendy gilette reports the vote came late saturday night after a all day session.

people all around the country will take a moment to remember 26 lives lost at sandy hook he will in meantry two years ago today. recovery there still continuing. thousands of resident in newtown went to a therapy program made a available to grant and donations. work is currently underway tt build a new sandy hook elementary school. town is also reviewing ideas for a permanent memorial honoring victims killed in that tragic shooting. hundreds of rescuers are digging through debris in central indonesia after torrential rain triggered a mud slide. they have pulled 18 bod fridays that debris, officials say that 90 people are still missing, friday's land slide swept more than 100 houses away. well, clean up continues after a monster storm in california, a mud slide, in camrill o springs 50 miles of los angeles has left 13 houses uninhabitable. utility crews restored power to nearly everyone who lost it in the big storm but some

roads including a stretch of the pacific coast high waste in ventura county remain closed. wow, really makes you thankful for the kind of weather we are having here, seasonal temperatures. >> we sometimes see houses buried in snow, remember how much snow they were picking up through minnesota earlier this year. to see that in muddies just unbelievable. >> it really is. >> one of the many reasons we should enjoy weather we will find today. it may not be ideal but it is a lot better than what a lot of people are getting. we have sunshine out there this morning. it looks absolutely gorgeous at the shore. just a fabulous sunrise. we will go well to the west though and we are not looking at quite a beautiful sunrise. a few more clouds, 38 degrees, wind out of the west at 3 miles an how but that is bucolic setting. i love looking at farmland. we have temperatures of 40 degrees in philadelphia everybody else in the 30's this morning including the poconos. we have the wind, and there is not a lot of wind but enough to knock these temperatures

back a little will bit so they feel slightly colder. yesterday was a pretty breezy day, wasn't the it. we will go back in the midwest and look at these temperatures. minneapolis, 46 degrees this in morning. their morning high or their morning low will be our afternoon high, and it is 53 in des moines. 50 degrees in st. louis. they are starting to pick up some of the influence of some of that coastal storm, from california, so, that warmer air is getting push inland and you can see far inland we have got these temperatures that are in the 40's and 50's through the center of the country. wide view, if you are traveling around today and i've got you all the way out to the hub of chicago if you are flying, in problems, and it looks fine as you in move to the south, move to the north, generally everything is great but look at this, this is still some of the circulation that we're seeing from that huge storm that we saw, we are still under the influence of a few clouds even though high pressure is starting to build in here. our temperatures will be in the 30's today, they will be in the 40's yesterday. they will be slightly high tore day and they may be a

degree or two higher tomorrow. the not a bad weather pattern expect for us as we get through next couple of days but by tuesday we do expect to find a few more clouds here and some chances of some showers. speaking of which, lets take a look at our computer mod that he will will time this out in the future. it is in the totally right at this point to start with just the clouds, they have farther back to the west but there are a few clouds around today. monday looks fine with some sunshine and we should be get something sun breaks as well today. then by tuesday, this computer model says that showers moving in courtesy of a front coming through the area, tuesday evening we may be finding a few of those as well and then might hang on to one or two even a as we get early in the morning on wednesday. otherwise lets not get too far a head of ourselves. we have a game this evening and temperature should be about 40 degrees with mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies tonight. then by the time we will get to tuesday it is hanukkah, always so much going on in the month of december, 45 degrees, mostly cloudy, it looks like

cell phone video of what the fire looked like this happened around 7:00a in m saturday on the 100 block of fromfield avenue in lower chichester. several people were trapped inside of the home, now a mother and two children were in the front yard but inside the house was other children, their father, and their grandmother. a neighbor helped rescue children and father from the burning home but their grandmother did not make it out a alive. they have talk with the man who sprang into action. >> i ran over my bear socks and got dressed half dressed tried to get to the top step and i seen fire coming from the bottom steps coming up and i knew there was kids inside. i heard father inside and basically me and him we broke out the bottom windows and we helped drag the three kids and i helped drag the father out of the house. >> reporter: that father and several children were taken to the hospital, and right now, investigators are still trying to figure out what exactly

caused this fire. we're live from lower chichester syma chowdhry cbs-3 "eyewitness news". such a tragedy, thank you. meanwhile cause of this fire in north philadelphia remains under investigation this morning. fire fighter suffered minor injuries, battling the flames, which broke out the in the row home in the 2700 block of westerly high avenue on saturday. the red cross is now assisting the six people who were displaced. a final tribute to a fallen fire fighter lieutenant joyce craig promoted posthumously was buried with full honors after a funeral in west oak lane. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson was there. >> reporter: full honors for a fallen hero. on this december saturday morning hundreds of people, family and friend, officials and dignitaries, fire fighters and first responders from across the country, came to honor one. eleven year philadelphia fire veteran 36 year-old joyce craig.

>> when you lose one, it effects everyone, because we are family. >> reporter: craig died doing what she believed in, battling a fire to save a life. >> she died a hero so it is a beautiful thing to have known joyce. >> reporter: she lost her life fighting flames in west oak lane early tuesday morning, leaving behind two children and a legacy of care, diligence. >> joyce was like family. >> reporter: her funeral services a somber highlight real for praises for a woman described as gentle, nurturing and tough as nails by people who knew her best. >> i was with joyce the first time that she got hurt on the job... and i was with her the last time. >> reporter: out of respect to the family's wishes we stayed outside and listen. her brothers and sisters tear in their eyes watched their commissioner, recall what happens a personal failure and a quiet blessing. >> i walk around with this black bandon my wrist for the pads seven years. you know what this says,

just some sad news here a building housing a nursery school has collapse had in china killing three children. authorities there say at least one other child was injured. police in china detained that person in charge of that school while they investigate the cause of that collapse. dallas county medical examiner's office says smoke inhalation killed three construction workers in a fire in the basement of a dallas sky scraper. federal officials say that the three were cleaning four water tanks in the basement of the 50 story thanksgiving tower on thursday. they were using a for to much cut rusted parts from a 30-foot deep tank when it caught fire. well, just about everyone who lost power from the storms that hit california, is back on line, and now comes hard

gusting to 30 miles an hour at the shore but looks great the there now. we are starting to see patches on have blue, we like this in kutztown, 38 degrees, and thinks a farm scene, obviously. our wind out of the west southwest at 4 miles an hour at the present time. we have temperatures and conditions that are in the bad, this morning. we do have them in the 40's in some locations, ie, philadelphia at 40 degrees at the airport. it is colder though. thirty-two down in millville. thirty-nine in wildwood. the just below freezing mark 31 degrees up in the poconos. storm scan three shows that we have some clouds. it is so hard to tell, it is like what? but if you look closely you will be able to see that a few clouds do come over every so often and that is how we know we do have that high overcast today. we will be finding for some, looking at least expect to go find some sun breaks because high pressure is around here, it ought to be sunny but we have this moisture kind of trapped in between and that is why we're finding the clouds out there this morning. temperatures should be getting to about 46 degrees as we move

through the afternoon today. our future weather in motion, we have a few clouds, sun breaks, we have clear skies at night, primarily, monday looks fine. tuesday we will start to watch the next weather maker come in here first warm front and we will get close to 50 degrees and then we will get a cold front coming through here. this computer model says by tuesday evening afternoon, late afternoon, we will start to pick up rain chances, subject to change, timing wise, of course but it looks like it will be rain chances. if you are well to the north ape west on tuesday morning, you may be finding even a patch of freezing drizzle will up there and i mean well to the north so maybe some lehigh valley points north on tuesday, if this holds, you could start with a little freezing precipitation but then changes over to all rain. by tuesday evening we're looking at rain showers, possibly throughout the area. and tonight, it looks great though. if you are going to the game or tailgating for the game, temperatures will be in the 40's and about 40 degrees at that 8:30 kick off for the

eagles/dallas game. our temperatures this afternoon, getting to around 46 degrees, slightly cooler with that breeze we expect, at the shore, 45 degrees and a lot cooler feeling because of the 30-mile an hour wind and then in the poconos about 40 degrees and partly sunny skies, expected in that location. generally it is going to be a quiet weather pattern coming up for now with the exception of tuesday with those showers and then the temperatures abnormal slightly above. we are finding our temperatures in the 40's as well today with wind north west between five and 10 miles an hour. tonight dropping down to 32 degrees. partly cloudy skies. temperatures right where they should this be time of the year. tomorrow we are looking at 47 degrees with some sunshine. tuesday we will cloud up at 48 degrees, chance of some showers, wednesday, 47. thursday, could be cooler, maybe even in the upper 30's, friday, 41 and then by saturday, we could be seeing some rain or some snow, or maybe none of the above, too early to talk about a system that may be copping here but just kind of a early heads up.
