knowledge breaking news, philadelphia police open fire on suspect and kill him. they've recovered a gun and we're told this is still a very active scene. one officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution. we are live with the latest details for you coming up in a just a couple every minutes. >> also breaking this morning, hostage crisis continues to unfold in australia. after a gunman takes captive at sidney cafe during morning rush hour. first we check in with katie and jessica. >> good morning, erika, well today is actually going to end up being very quiet day for our area as whole. we are finally expect to go see sunshine, i know, it is to felt like we've been stuck in the clouds for long time, granted we have. we will explain why that was over the weekend, also what's in store coming up. wet weather makes a return, all of the details straight ahead, jess? >> thanks, and pretty much quiet morning so far, as well. but it is still early. i don't want to jinx us at

all. 5:30, we go out, check out the ben franklin bridge, all lanes are open and moving along great from the jersey side, the taillights are headed on into the city from new jersey, no problems currently headed into new jersey frat city but we do have few accidents that popped up i'll cover them, and tell but dot he the details. >> update on breaking news in the mayfair section, armed suspect shot and killed by police i can tenths moments unfolded overnight in the 6700 block of fran frankford avenue. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo on the scene with the very latest, jan, what have you learned? good morning. >> good morning, we know this all started as a traffic stop, but what we don't know at this point is how it escalate intoed a shooting and a deadly shooting, at that. coming to you live from the 6700 block of frankford avenue where you can see the entire scene still shut off. that will white car where all of the action was surrounding, where police have been collecting evidence all

morning long, just another update from police, they tell us that the operator of this vehicle was initially pulled over for traffic stop. by two police officers, in a mark car, fully uniform, for some reason, they are unsure about at this point the shooting unfolded here, right around 3:00 in the morning, now, that happened right before 3:00, told suspect from northeast philadelphia with a criminal record for some reason was shot in the head by police, again, that suspect is dead this morning, police told us this yes -- they are taking his body to the medical examiners office, circumstances surrounding the shooting still unclear,ly want to point out there was a gun inside the car visible to police, by the center console and the passenger seat. they say you could see the butt of the gun, there of course, all of this still under investigation, we're told, that one of the police officers had to be taken to the hospital, the other police office here discharged his weapon with internal affairs this morning as part of the

application investigation soy one in the hospital, one working with internal fares, suspect on scene again was shot once in the head. now, this is a very busy area usually we have businesses here, we have apartment nearby, bank across the street. obviously a lot of traffic in the area, three, four witnesses that were taken down, to -- as part of the investigation, as well, for questioning, this area still block off this morning, so if you usually come through here take a note, because this will be a long investigation. police have been on scene, crime scene unit on scene, as well as internal affairs collecting evidence all morning long. so, again, our updated information at this shooting victim, 26 year old man from northeast philadelphia, two police officers involved, only one had to discharge his weapon, shot that suspect in the head. again, uncertain about the circumstances that took it from a traffic stop, to a shooting, just as soon as we get that you information we'll bring it straight to you. for now live in mayfair, jan

carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> australians gunman continues to hold hostages at a cafe in downtown sidney. speaking directly to prime minister tony abbott. asked authorities to bring him an isis flag. police are not yet calling this incident terrorism, as they continue to try to establish a motive. five hostages who manage to escape now being questioned by investigators in cydney. just past 5:33, we want to check in with katie with our forecast very quiet, we can expect to see some sunshine out, there i know definitely at very, very much at a premium through the course of the weekend. part of the problem was that we saw low sun angle, and also an inch version, that settled in. we'll talk more about what that meant over the course of the show here, but we will take you out taught current conditions which have very favorable, very tranquil right now, live look "skycam 3", no problems seeing the tops of

>> the search for shane montgomery enters its third week. west chester university student vanished thanksgiving morning after leaving kill dare's public on main street. new surveillance video reportedly shows montgomery walking across the bridge over the manayunk canal toward the parking lot near the river. philadelphia police are asking for your help to help find a missing elderly man. he was last seen at his center city apartment on friday. investigators say, that he's about 5-foot seven, 220 pounds, with brown eyes, and salt and pepper hair. if you have any information, you are asked to call central detectives. >> delaware state police need help locating this man, brian, troopers say, that noun with us' heard from him since he left his home in new castle yesterday. authorities say he's about 5-foot eight, 150 pounds, could be driving black 2002 acura tl. if you have any information on his whereabouts, you are asked
