jan, good morning. >> reporter: erika, ukee, good morning, that's right, we do know that this all started as a traffic stop, what we don't know is why it escalate intoed a shooting, and deadly shooting at that. now, police tell us, the victim here, is the suspect, a 26 year old man from northeast philadelphia. has a recovered, close look at the evidence, looking at white car on scene, what the suspect's car and that's a spot outside of the businesses that he got pulled over right around 3:00 in the morning in mayfair, police again have been processing the scene all morning long still unclear what happened leading to up there is but for one of the reasons, one of the uniform officers had to shoot. the suspect shot once in the head pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 this morning, his body since taken to the

medical examiners office. now the officers who fired, his weapon, only one officer fired his weapon, that officer is now with internal affairs. other officer had to be taken to the hospital for evaluation, we're toll, he was not physically injured, but he was shaken up. >> we do have a gun that was actually found, totally visible, butt after gun, actually in the console between the passenger seat, actually, kind of like stuck down the middle, between the console and the passenger seat. >> now, back here live on scene, you can see, we have a loft investigators still here. there are a lot of businesses, on this block, there are and the, nearby, there is a bank across the street, police will be looking for surveillance video, actually going to be,

very busy area watch was happening here around 3:00 this morning still unclear, and this area, frandford and unruh avenues, still block off this morning. so, if you come through this area, you want to take note of. that will there will be some traffic as a result of this investigation. reporting live in mayfair, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> jan, thank you. >> more breaking news right now, out of australia, sidney, specifically, where hostage situation continues to unfold. gunman took hostages during the busy morning hour rush in sidney. you can see some in the windows there, some folks with their hands in the air. authorities say, that a black flag was spotted in that store, with the islamic declaration of states written out in arabic. the gunman demanding police bring him an isis flag. >> we don't know whether this is politically motivated, although, obviously there are

some indication cents be there. >> they're trying to find a peaceful solution. >> just check in and get traffic and weather together. good morning. >> good morning, well, today will be pretty quiet start to the work week for us overall. we are eventually however tracking new storm system, and actually the very same storm if you from last week that doused california with flooding rain, it is that storm, but, thankfully, it will be far more after glancing blow to our area. we actually get warm up out of it if you can believe it, as we mention for now things very quiet. still have thin vale of cloud cover which looks like it will hang on at least for now, but, i also expect that you will see some sun for a change here today. 43 degrees the current temperature at the airport, actually off to relatively mild start. very close to where our normal daytime highs would actually be topping off. we expect probably drop another agree or two before the sun comes up. how much, we only get you into the mid 40's today. so overall all things considered this will be a seasonable day for us. the more sunshine you want to see, you're going have to go further out toward the shore

points here at least initially, 47 the expected high down at the shore points, and up in the poconos, also ends one partly sunny day, but, overall, again, pretty seasonable one at that. jess, over to you. >> thank you, katie. good morning shall everybody, 05:00, having relatively quiet start to the morning. we go outside and check out how things are doing on the schuylkill expressway. still moving along okay. but as you can see, over in the right hand shoulder there, of the week lanes, of the schuylkill right near belmont, we do have addition able vehicle. but it is only taking out the shoulder, there isn't a ton of volume really trying crawl on by that right now, but just something just to watch out for meantime. now, over on the ben franklin bridge from the jersey side, headed westbound into the city where the taillights are, all lanes open, everything moving great so far if you are headed into the city now we do have downed pole from earlier accident, on 676 northbound, mlk boulevard, to watch for there. currently no problems for 202 or 95 if you are headed southbound. ukee, back over to you. >> jess, thank you. eagles lose a heart brackens against dallas, losing control

cloud cover it seem. dow think we are going to finally see some sun out there today. variety of reasons why we couldn't get rid of the clouds over the course weekends, i do think high pressure will hook us up with some sun here today. meanwhile here is the combination of the next storm system to affect us. this was actually the same storm that brought all of that soaking rain back across california last week. and now it potentially bridges even severe weather through the deep south eventually this will roll our way, and when it does, it appears as though it is really just going to come through with very little fanfare. high pressure again in place today, offer up some sunshine, mid four's generally speaking, tomorrow talking upper 40's, see the duo of front cross throughment tomorrow the warmfront, so we see again upper four's, little milder, and will be just some rain showers. don't worry about any frozen precipitation this time. cold front sweeps through on wednesday with not too much to offer up other than little bit after drop on the thermometer come thursday. we will still hit about 50 degrees here, not bad for the standards as mid to late december on wednesday before that crosses through. so really for the next five days, looks like tomorrow is

shooting in northeast philly overnight. police say it happened during a traffic stop, along the 6700 block of frankford avenue, an officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation. >> also, police in sends any negotiating with at least one gunman who was taken several hostages, inside downtown cafe. five people were able to escape. >> and president obama will be in south jersey this afternoon, he is scheduled to deliver remarks at joint base mcguire-dix lakehurst to service members and their families. we'll take a short break, be right back.

>> update on breaking news in philadelphia's mayor fair section. armed suspect is shot dead by police. intense moments unfolded overnight in the 6700 block of frankford avenue. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo joins us from the scene with the latest information, jan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, this story is still developing, and police are trying to figure out exactly what happened here in mayfair early this morning. what we know is that this started as a traffic stop. what we don't know is how it escalated into an officer involved shooting. now, police tell us, the victim is a 26 year old man,

from northeast philadelphia, with the criminal record. the two officers involved had been on the force for less than a year. they're both rookie comes. now, here on scene, you can see the police still securing the scene, taking very close look at a white car that's behind this cruiser, this morning, and that's the suspect's car. and that's the spot where he got pulled over just before 3:00 this morning. now, we're coming to you live near the intersection of frankford avenue and unruh avenue in mayfair. police have been processing this scene all morning long. investigators, again, still trying to piece together what happened in the moment leading up to this shooting. that part is still unclear. but, for some reason, police say, one of the uniformed officers had to shoot. the suspect was shot once in the head, and pronounced dead shortly thereafter. his body has been taken to the medical examiners office. the officer who fired is now with internal affairs right now. the other office her to be taken to the hospital for evaluation. we're told he was not physically injured but shaken up. again, as far as the circumstances surrounding the shooting, again, that's still

under investigation. >> we do have a gun that was actually found in the suspect's car. it is a totally visible, butt after gun actually in the console between passenger seat, actually, casino of like stuck down the middle between the console and the passenger seat. >> back out here live on scene, you can see police are still securing the scene here in mayfair. there are a loft businesses on this block, there are amounts nearby, there is a bank across the street. police will be taking a look at surveillance video in the area. also, interviewing about three, four witnesses, who were here at the time of the shooting. of course, this is a very busy area, in mayfair, a lot of traffic comes through here, and you want to note that the scene is still taped off this morning. so if you do come through this area, you will want to make note of that. at this point, most of the on scene evidence collecting part of this investigation is done, we are awaiting police to tow away that white vehicle. that suspect's vehicle we're told at this point what they know about that, it has

florida license plate, seems to be rental car. it has not been reported stolen of course. this is still a developing story just as soon as we get you more information about the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting, we'll bring it straight to you. for now live in mayfair, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". jan, thank you. more breaking news out of sidney, australia five managed to escape where gunman is holding several others hostage, demanding meeting with prime minister tony abbott, also requesting isis flag. another flag with the islamic declaration of faith was spotted through window. but officials are not yet confirming this incident as a terrorist attack. >> we don't know whether this is politically motivated, although obviously there are some indications that it could be. >> the gunman told police there are two bombs in the cafe. and two more in cydney's financial district. negotiate ores are working to find a peaceful solution to the stand-off, while authorities try to estimate the gunman's motive.

i think more than anything just because we have the clouds. meanwhile we take you down to new castle county, 42, meant by sandra, one of the new bees to the program out in newark, also has been finding some clouds out there. he is homing for sunny afternoon. i hear ya. now, over the course of the weaken we did call for sunshine it, just never broke. so, what gave there? it ended up that we ended up with a couple of dip ren factors. more than anything, inch version in the temperatures, where you have warm air aloft, colder air down at the surface, so almost acts as a cap here. because you have that notoriously lower sun angle, a loft times the sun can hepburn off the clouds, just couldn't do that. so, you ended up with cloud deck that never had a chance to break. and as we look back at time here, over the satelite and radar pictures from saturday into early sunday, combined northwest flow, helps add to the cloud cover. so, we just couldn't catch a break. now, dow think we're finally going to catch that break, and finally see some sunlight. i know it felt like we lived in port lan for the lack week or so, but eventually next storm system will move on in.
