from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". searching for sane, it has been more than three weeks since the college student was last seen in manayunk. coming up we'll tell you what his family is doing today in hopes of finding him. another major retailer is hacked and the credit information of more than a million people may now be in the wrong hands. and vandals with a message for the police. while others rally in support of local officers. today is saturday, december 20th, good morning to you, thanks so much for joining us, i'm nicole brewer. it is 5:00. let's get a check on the forecast, and from the feel of it, coming in this morning, it will be a cold one, carol. >> the last full day of fall today by the way. >> i say soak it up, but will feel like winter, flight. >> winter starts tomorrow

officially a little after 6:00 it will feel like it all day long today. we have clouds out there right now, we will be keeping chilly temperatures all day. thirty-four out in reading right now, winds out of the northeast about 5 miles an hour there. the winds will not and problem today. so expect light winds. off and on we get these cold temperatures, we also get accompanying blast of cold air, that's not going to be the case today. storm scan3, if you look very, very closely, you can see the faint cover of clouds. but if you're outside, you would be seeing even more of them. 34 degrees in philadelphia, 31 in trenton, 29 degrees in wilmington, 23 degrees up in the poconos, and 25 down in wildwood. and then you factor in the wind, and as i said, there isn't a lot of wind, but the five or 6-mile an hour winds that we do have does bryn the temperatures down, feels like 16 in the poconos, feels like 27 outside in philadelphia, and 21 down in millville. a cold morning to say the least of this last full fall day. we have temperatures today, by

noon, 36 degrees, and we stay not windy through the noon hour, and by 3:00 p.m. it is still not windy. clouds and sun are expected for, and as far as the sky guess, this computer model wrong, clouds over us, so probably slightly wrong as it moves through the afternoon. but expect a dry day today. we will be looking at clouds and then maybe some sun breaks in there, as well. we'll check out the christmas forecast coming up. nick snow. >> carol, thank you. and happening today, the family of missing college student shane montgomery hosting 5k run. they are trying to raise money to increase to the $65,000 reward for any information on his disappearance. no one has seen montgomery since early thanksgiving morning when he went out drink withing friends in manayunk. runners will meet at 9:00 this morning outside gold's fitness main street manayunk. free run, but donations are encouraged. steve patterson will have a live report on the fundraiser run coming up in about 30 minutes. >> days before christmas, there is more personal

information at risk. >> this time, it is staple's stores. nine stores across our region were affect in the this latest data breach. david spunt has the details. >> reporter: during the busy final few days of the holiday shopping season, news that almost 1.2 million credit and debit cards were hacked at staple stores across the country, dozens -- doesn't sit well with shoppers. >> i use my card, and it is kind of scar. >> i maureen just loaded up on office supplies at this staples on roosevelt in northeast philadelphia. >> this store is one of 115 stores nationwide, had it by criminals at different times, between july and september. staples made the announcement late friday afternoon. many custom hers no idea until we told them. >> real big problem, because people, they put the trust in the companies, not only staples but everywhere else. >> staples isn't the only store with security breach issues. chain joins a growing list,

police about pick pockets. police there have released surveillance fed owes in four incidents. victims, credit cards, run up to the tune of 14 grand. people were victimized at wegmans, bahama breeze, panera and the christmas tree shops. first incident happened november 5th, the most recent occurred on tuesday. >> well, authorities want you to be extra cautious during your holiday shopping to avoid becoming a victim. police say, women should hold their purse close to their body with the opening facing toward them. also, avoid using revolving doors, apparently a target of thieves with good timing, consolidate purchases into one bigger bag to better keep track of everything. never leave your purchases unattended. if you are shopping at night, ask security officer to walk you to your car. good advice there. >> meanwhile, a man now facing criminal charges, accused of falsely reporting siting of montgomery county spree killer bradley stone. police say luke sander lands told them monday night a man who look like stone tried to carjack him near the stoneton

farm amounts in doylestown. it is during the height of urgent hunt for stone. investigators say he made up that story. >> alert were put out for 5-mile radius, bucks town hospital, central bucks west were shutdown, and put under lock-down, and obviously a very substantial amount of public resources were deployed. >> stone was wanted for killing six people in montgomery county. his ex-wife and five of her relatives. police eventually found his body in the woods near his pennsburg home. well, hundreds gather to support police in philadelphia and all across the country. supporters lined the streets in mayfair. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown has that story. >> reporter: the blaring sounds of car horns help to fuel a spirited ram any northeast philadelphia, at least 250 people gathering to show support for philadelphia police officers, donald gash i organized the event.

>> having people just regular, you know, i don't want to say nobody, but regular people come out and tell the positive stories despite race, creed, anything like that. and just share the stories. >> the support we get from the police is unbelievable. >> one by one, residents gave testimonials about how police officers have impacted their lives, some letting their signs do the talking, a showing that brought this retired philadelphia police officer to tears. >> yes, i was going to go up there and make a speech, but i'm afraid i'll get too emotional. >> these police officers go out, they kiss their families good-bye. i don't know if they're coming home again, you know, you have lot of good ones, you have a lot of bad once. the good once you have to pull out of the crowd. >> all lives matter. all lives matter. >> this rally coming on the heals of rallies in philadelphia, and around the country, protesting grand jury decisions not to indict police officers, in cases in ferguson, missouri and new york. also, coming, just hours after

disturbing graffiti was discovered in west philadelphia reading cop lives don't matter. other messages found comdemn the killing of brandon tate brown, who was shot and killed by police on monday in mayfair, after police say he was reaching for a gun at a traffic stop. >> i want to take all the police that are out there. >> this gathering there is one in port richmond, also supporting officers, like other, came under the cloak of protection provided by police. >> community group just like any of the other protests and demonstration that is we've handled throughout the past month and a half or throughout the year at any point in time, everybody has the right to express themselves and their first amendment right of being out here. so this is no different. >> police say there was a peaceful rally, no incidents to report. just a gathering of folks who wanted to show appreciation for the men and women in blue, who protect and serve their community. in mayfair, natasha brown, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> in new york, demonstrators took to the streets in support of a new york police

department. but they were met with rival demonstration by critics of police policy. the pro-police rally was held as counter point to the recent protests against police brutality. >> well, there is new reaction to this image polls dollars on instagram by a philadelphia paramedic. it shows two black men pointing handguns at a white man posting as a police officer. under the picture, the paramedic wrote in part, real enemy. mayor nutter spoke about the photo on friday. >> it is offensive and, you know, as much as we believe in the support free speech, i think it is also clear that there are lemons to speech or expression, those kind of actions. at any time that casino of posting would certainly be inapropriate as it relates to any of our police officers. >> and now the image is from a music video made in protest of the death of michael brown and eric garner. the paramedic has since apologized for post that image on line.

the leader of the free world and the leader of sony pictures are both weighing in on the alleged north korean cyber attack that crippled the film maker and derailed the release of controversial new comedy. "eyewitness news" anchor chris may takes a look at what's next for the film and how the us may respond. >> yes, i think they made a mistake. >> president obama took sony pictures to task for its decision not to release the interview as planned next week. seth rogan comedy about assassination plot targeting the leader of north korea was the subject after terrorist threat and cyber attack. fbi now says north korean government is responsible for the hack. >> i wish they had spoke tone me first. i would have told them do not get into a pattern in which you're intimidated by these kind of criminal attacks. >> but on cnn sony pictures ceo michael lynn ten said zone had i been in contact with the white house, and that the company has done everything it

"eyewitness news". it is 5:16 right now. first day, last day of fall, but feeling more like winter, right? did i get that right, carol? >> it took a second. >> you know, when you're on that cusp it can be very difficult. last day, first day of -- yell, it is cold out there, no matter what season it is. we have some light over philadelphia right now, and i'm sure a lot more out in your neighborhood. nice start to the day, there are few clouds in the sky, right now, and we may hang onto those for much of the day. but, if we're lucky, we get couple of sun breaks in there, too, feels like december has been very short on sunday light. we have 34 degrees in philadelphia right now. this is the cold morning, not as cold out at the airport, but look it the south, well, the south for us, 26 degrees in millville, 27 degrees in dover, it is 25 degrees down in wildwood, 28 degrees in atlantic city. we go to the north, it is warmer there, 31 degrees. right now, up in allentown, 30 in reading. no place, however, is warm on this map. and with the little bit of

winds that we have, the temperatures do feel just slightly colder. storm scan3, you can sort of see these clouds, i know how hard this is to see, because i struggle with it, too, but you can almost see where they aren't. that is sort of where you can almost tell where they are. so, we do have some clouds cover over us at this point this morning. we will probably end up partly sun think afternoon. still cold, thee temperatures running below where they should. we should be lower 40's, we'll be probably upper 30's today, for this last full day of fall. there, i did it. temperatures tomorrow will be in the 40's, and that's the first full day every winter. but it doesn't start until later on in the day. but does that really even matter? just kind of talking point more than anything else. because these temperatures definitely have been feeling cold all winter, which seems to have gone on throughout the fall. we have more clouds coming for us on monday, and couple of low pressure systems. that is going to be making it soggy around here, starting probably on tuesday, but definitely on wednesday.

and there is a chance it could start as early as late on monday, but let's see this. this is what we've got. we have one low pressure system off the coast. the stronger, bigger one, the one coming through the great lakes, gagging -- dragging warmfront, cold front, so the weather starts to pick up on christmas eve when everybody is trying to get around and go someplace. expect to find a soaking rain on christmas eve, this is according to the european model, of our computer models. snow is even possible farther inland, and then a blustery christmas day is likely, but a dry christmas day. our future weather there is into motion, as i mentioned, at the start of the show, not right to begin with. we have clouds over us. it said we didn't. so do you have sort of take some of the rest of this with a grain of salt. just know it should be dry this weekend, then going on out until tuesday morning there is model would like to keep us dry even until then. but there is a chance of a shower, even on tuesday. here's what we expect for christmas eve, heavy rain

get. we have a few clouds over us right now, that's really not doing that much to the temperatures, so many, maybe keeping them up an agree or two, especially as you head to the north and the west. along the shore areas, it is cold, we have temperatures in the 20's, throughout south jersey, than would include the atlantic city area. look at that, it looks very, very nice, coastline lit up. here is another coastline. it is a coastline of philadelphia. off the delaware bay, than is 32 degrees right now, palmyra cove nature park, across the delaware, looking at philadelphia. now, storm scan3, has no problems in store for us today. we expect to find dry weather, today, and tomorrow, you might see some clouds out there, they're out there right now, and you might even hang onto few as we go on through the rest of the afternoon, but some sun breaks can't be ruled out either. temperatures cold, though, 23 up in the poconos, with winds of about 7 miles an hour, 29 atlantic city at the airport there. it is 25 in wildwood, 27 in

dover, 26 in millville. look how cold it is through south jersey, 31 in trenton, 31 in allentown, with the exception of the airport area, below the freezing point at this point. we have temperatures today, that will be getting into the upper 30's,. >> winter begins, tomorrow, finding the shortest daylight, as if it is not short enough already, and it get even shorter, just nine hours, 19 minutes, and 57 seconds, the average high this time of year, 43, we won't even be close today as we have temperatures that will only be stopping probably the upper 50s. >> i can hear the excitement in your vows, thank you. 5:32, the family of missing college student hosting 5k run to raise money for his reward funds. shane montgomery vanished thanksgiving morning after drinking at a bar in manayunk, "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson live in manayunk now with all of the details. steve, good morning.

>> sent montgomery has been missing over three weeks now. one of the things the family mentions is fear for them the attention shifts away from shane montgomery, that this somehow becomes old news. so part whatever they're doing today, part of this 5k, not only raising money for the investigation, but keeping the focus right here on main street. want to bring you to some video, show you picture every shane montgomery once again, mering a month since west chester university student went missing, 21 year old out with friends thanksgiving morning here on main street, shane spotted leaving kill dare's irish pub, and then evanishes. since then the fbi and police have identified video, showing montgomery walking toward the manayunk canal. that's where the search has centered. the family no where near giving up here shane area parents say on the case, sonar has recently been deployed in the manayunk canal and in the schuylkill river.

there are plans for an additional search effort including more dogs, back out in the canal, and on the river. this morning, 5k, though, starts at about 9:00 this morning, right here on main street. no price to enter the race, although recommending donations as the money goes directly toward the family, directly toward the investigation. live in maine street, steve patterson, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> philadelphia police are investigating a homicide. man shot multiple times, 3100 block of heartfelt street. happened before 10:00 last night, man returned to the hospital where he died from his injuries. no words on suspect at this time. search continues for two mask gunmen targeting convenience stores in north philadelphia. police released surveillance video from six of the robberies. nine shops have been hit since november 15th. hood suspect have gotten away with cash and cigarette. in one of the robberies, store owner was pistol whipped.

because we have clouds out there, and it says we don't have any clouds out there right now, so we take the rest of this, with a grain of salt, and say -- i showed it to you. we've got christmas eve, heavy rain possible, wind gusts to 30 miles an hour. so, big travel day, big day to hunker down, if you feel like it, and maybe just nice day to be n but the temperatures will be mild enough that with the rain it will feel colder in the 50's, christmas day itself, we still continue with the winds, and blustery, but it will be dry on christmas day, the way things are shaped up at this point. now, if you are going to be traveling this weekend, clouds and sun, right through saturday, through monday, it will be cool, but dry. tuesday, we've got some showers around, and then wednesday, heavy rain and winds. you can make your plans according to that. otherwise, today, it is just going to be in probably the upper 30's, right about the freezing mark, in the poconos, with luck we get some sunshine along with the clouds today. winds will be light, though, that's one good feature, so not unduely cold.
