"eyewitness news". >> a soggy night across the region. the umbrellas are out in center city as much of the area deals with showers this monday. a live look now at storm scan3 and you can see that system pushing through right now. certainly not a washout but still not a very pleasant mond monday. good evening to you, i'm jessica dean. chris may is off tonight. >> the big question now, will this dreary weather hangar round for the holidays. meteorologist kate bilo joins us from the weather center and this weather could throw a wrench into holiday travel plans. kate. unfortunately jessica, that is true. we had similar storm although even a stronger storm the day before thanksgiving that brought rain and snow. this will be just rain and this is just the first taste of it. that we're getting to night we saw sun earlier on this among but the evening went downhill pretty quickly as these bands of showers continue to move through from southwest to northeast here this evening and you can see as we zoom out the center of that storm is way up across portions of northern plains.

home in the mill of the day. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live at children' hospital with an update on that boy and also an add dull victim. todd? >> reporter: jessica, that three-year-old boy was rushed here to chop. he was shot once in the groin. and tonight there are indications the boy's father may have actually been the intented target. christmas decorations and crime scene tape set the back drop of a bizarre double shooting. it unfolded right here on the 1300 block of south newkirk street in grays ferry. helen says her son in lauder william pew was on his front porch when the gunman shot him in the leg. it was perhaps caves mistaken identity according to police. as the shooter didn't stop the there. >> and them this defendant goes to the next house, 1335, and he opens up the door and fires right now it look like one round into the house. >> reporter: that's how the three year old boy was shot just before noon on monday. the boy's father did not speak to cbs3. she says her son-in-law drove

himself to the hospital and is going to be okay. but she's upset. she contends neighbors here were slow to call 911 for help. >> the complacency of people not to call 911 after you heard sick shots outside your door? where are are morals. >> neighbors we talk to were reluctant to speak on camera. >> i heard six or seven gunshots and i thought nothing of it around here it's frequently you hear gunshots so a lot of people usually just turn the other way. >> reporter: councilman kenyata johnson says that must change. >> it makes no sense. it's holiday season we definitely shouldn't have a family going to the hospital with a three-year-old shot in the leg. >> reporter: i'm told that three-year-old boy was last listed in stable condition here at chop, and is expected to make a full recovery. as of right now, no arrests have been made. reporting live tonight in university city, todd quinones

cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> todd, thank you. the mayor of new york city and its police commissioner are trying to ease tensions in the city in the wake of the deaths of michael brown and eric garner and the weekend assassination of two police officers. cbs news correspondent marley hall shows us what happened when the mayor requested a pause in the protests as the city mourns. >> reporter: about a dozen demonstrators staged a sit in at new york's grand central terminal. they were protesting recent cases in which white police officers were not charged in the deaths of unarmed black men. >> this movement is about the police being held accountable for what has happened. you know, so, yeah, i do think it's fitting we're still out here and i think we still need to come out and peacefully protest. >> reporter: protesters evoked the names of michael brown and eric garner. both men died during confrontations with white officers in ferguson, missouri and staten island, new york. grand jury's declined to indict the police.

>> the protest was held despite a request from new york's mayor. to city police officers were shot and killed here in brooklyn over the weekend by a man who promised retaliation for michael brown and eric garner. wenjian liu and raphael ramos were ambush as they sat in their patrol car. the gunmen then killed himself. ismaaiyl brince hal a long criminal history and had posted on instagram about shooting cops writing they take one of ours, let's take two of theirs. and shoot the police. mayor bill diblasio called for greater understanding. >> does that suggest therefore police and community can never come together, they're always has to be wall between them? no, we can't allow that. >> reporter: another protest is planned for tuesday. in brook lip, new york, marley hall for cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> protests in milwaukee after the da there announces a police officer who was fired after a deadly shooting won't be charg charged. the da said christopher manny shot dontrelle hamilton in

self-defense in april. officials say punches were thrown on both sides and the officer was hit with his own baton before opening fire hitting hamilton 14 times. the us attorney has ordered a federal investigation. in the meantime manny is fighting to get his job back. meanwhile the superintendent of the up they are darby police department wants his officers to be extra cautious. he cites the deaths michael brown and eric garner as well as the weekend mutter of those two police officers in new york city. michael chitwood wrote a letter to his officers. it reads in part "please take nothing for granted when answering calls we classify as routine. nothing is routine -- remember the overwhelming members of our community support us and are l law-abiding citizens ". >> some police officers in south philadelphia are among the many working to get closer to the people they serve. >> police officers are actually working one-on-one with high school students trig to bridge the gap between the police and the community and to let them know actually what police work is all about. >> the officers from the south

street station worked side by side with neumann-goretti high school students. those students helped wrap gifts, collected in the toy drive organized by the police and for some teens it was their first interaction with the police. the officers say a positive impression goes a long way. >> new tonight a community comes together following last week's shooting rampage in montgomery county. as "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt tells us tonight, their purpose was two fold, to honor a life lost, and to pray for the recovery of another. >> we spotted about 900 students and parents here at souderton high school tonight to remember 14-year-old nina flick. and pray for her 17 year old brother anthony's recovery as he's fighting for his life in a a local hospital. >> we're here to weep. we're here to mourn. we're here to embrace. >> reporter: it's been one week since police say 35-year-old bradley stone went on a murderous rampage killing his ex-wife and five others.

17-year-old apartment knee flick is the only survivor and monday night, his friends prayed for him. >> i went to pre-school with him and we've been friends ever since then. and we stayed friends to this day. >> flick's sister nina just 14 years old also top of mind. her friends say nina was out going, the kind of friend you would want to have. her close friend francesca told the crowd how much she'll miss nina and told "eyewitness news" that talking about nina will help all of her friends heal. >> we're all here for each other and we're just going to stay strong. >> reporter: stone's motive still not clear. but court records show he and his ex-wife had in a custody battle. police found his body in a wooded area not even a mile from his pennsburg home last tuesday. >> anthony before he ever knew it was becoming a big brother i never had. >> reporter: monday night the focus wasn't on stone. but on the six who died and anthony flick as he continues to

fight for his life. >> one of the stronger kids i know and i, you know, i -- i can't even begin to imagine, you know, what it must be like but i know he's strong and i know he'll pull through this. >> reporter: friends and family set up a gofundme page to help cover his medical costs in the hospital also to help him with clothing and shelter when he leaves the hospital. $50,000 so far. friends and family have raised about $25,000. reporting from souderton, david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> a 10-year-old boy is hospitalized after getting hit by a vehicle in bristol township. chopper three over scene tonight at lakeland and foster avenues. we're told that boy was taken to saint mary's mel center and the driver did stop at the scene. new tonight, fire breaks out at a shopping center in brac lawn, camden county. this started inside the china house restaurant on crescent boulevard. the cause of the fire is under investigation. no one was injured.

>> former head master of a private school in delaware is convicted of dealing child pornography. christopher wheeler faces at least 50 years in prison after being found guilty on all 25 counts. wheeler is the former head master at tower hill school. he resigned in october 2013 and has been behind bars ever since. police say they found more than 2,000 images of child porn at wheeler's home. he'll be sentenced march 27th. >> a delaware day tear worker is now facing charges. police say 40-year-old tanya robinson left two children in an suv while she went shopping friday in newark. and while she was shopping, that suv got repossessed and towed away. the tow truck driver discover the two children ages one and five in that car in the tow yard. he says the suv was full of items and he couldn't see the children when it was towed away. robinson has been arraigned and now free on bail. former sportscaster don tollefson calls himself an click app drug addiction he prepares

to defense himself on charges he cheated charities out of $340,000. two months after pleading court he headed to court and withdrew that plea saying he had new information that proves his innocence. now he's looking for a lawyer to take his case pro bono since his request for a public defender has been denied. >> i believe that i'm innocent. i believe as i said in open court this should have remained in civil court. because i believe i did not have any criminal intent. >> he says today was his 438th day clean and sober living under house arrest in north philadelphia. he plans to make restitution by selling sports and civil rights meme biehl ya. his trial is set to begin january 5th. easton hospital as agreed to pay a $662,000 settlement to the federal government to resolve legs of health care fraud. the feds say that hospital billed medicare for procedures

42 in wilmington little bit cooler in our north and west suburbs those temperatures may actually rise overnight. and then we are heading way up as we head toward the christmas holiday. 60s on christmas eve. we should be in the low fours. about 20 degrees above average. 50s for christmas day and still above average on friday. but you won't get a chance to get outside and enjoy those 60s as the rain starts to push in. you can see just spotty showers through your tuesday but heavier rain early christmas morning christmas evening morning i should say, noon pockets of steady rain and that continues through the evening hours. there could be a stray shower early on christmas morning before we clear thing out christmas day and the sun returns with a gusty wind. rainfall about half inch to an inch across all four of models we generally look at it's not a total washout. we're not talking about flooding rain just pocks of steady rain on and off through the day on wednesday much that's the day we're giving i was red light for travel not the best day tomorrow certainly better with the sun returning on frist of christmas day thursday. overnight cloudy skies with light rain, 38 degrees.

♪ >> quite a scene in arizona as a bear being pursued by authorities goes on the run. take look at the video of the bear. he's definitely running. fish and game officers itemed to tranquilize the bear but couldn't get close enough to do that. wildlife officials are still keeping tabs on the animal and from what we understand bears really aren't all that common in the phoenix area so this is a rare siting. a fast bear at that. we'll be right back. ♪
