gunfire, happened less than a mile from where a three year old was shot yesterday. >> this morning's victim walking home from a south philadelphia store when someone fired eight shots near 25th and moore street. the 33 year old was hit once, then managed to run home, and call police. at last check, he was in stable condition. >> just yesterday, in broad daylight, gunfire rang out nearby, in grays ferry, two people were shot including a three year old boy. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live at the children's hospital, this morning, where that little boy is recovering. good morning, jan. >> reporter: diana, good morning, we're lucky we're not talking about a three year old boy who was shot and killed. >> this was a very close call. as you mentioned, he is here at chop this morning, last check, in stable condition, and expected to make a full recovery. meantime there is shooting investigation continues today, and so does the hunt for the shooter. >> a mid sparkling lights and christmas tree, yellow police tape outline this grays ferry neighborhood on monday, after three year old was shot and

rushed to the hospital. an act never acceptable, but specially shocking, councilman kin yacht a johnson says around the holidays. >> this makes no sense. the holiday season, so definitely should not have a family going to the hospital with a three year old shot in the leg. >> the shooting unfolded in the 1300 block of south newkirk street in broad daylight. police say an unknown suspect, approached a man here on his porch. the two got into an argument and at some point the gunman opened fire striking the man in his leg. now, police say, this may have been a case of mistaken identity, because of what happened next. >> this goes to the next house, 1335, and he opens the door and fires right now looks like one round into the house. >> that's when the toddler was shot. his father, refused to speak with reporters on monday, after police say he may have been the intended targetment meantime the adult victim's mother-in-law is upset, about what she calls slow response from neighbors after hearing gunshots. >> the complacency of people

not to call 911 after you heard six shots outside your door? where are the morals? >> many neighbors, "eyewitness news" spoke with, didn't feel comfortable going on camera, but had this to say in response. >> around here, frequently you hear gunshots. so a lot of people just turn the other way. >> now, that adult victim who was shot in the leg was able to drive himself to the hospital. he is also in stable condition, and is expected to be okay. >> jang thank you, take a cue. >> not the worse idea, own though today featuring more scattered showers, it will be a dreary day, a cloudy day for us, otherwise, and certainly very damp out there. so i call this news and travel day more than anything tomorrow, maybe a big headache for you, as we track some steadier rain. we start things off by taking you outside, shall we? out to one of the field

cameras, and we have been dealing with some off and on rain throughout the course of the morning, see the raindrops, sure sign out there, on "skycam 3" here in atlantic sit that i we are seeing some rain moving down the shore right now. and moving through the general vicinity, but as we go next, we take to you another one of the "skycam 3" shots. >> this one actually from the very own rooftop here in center city, off in the distance, you can see at least the base of the comcast building in liberty place. but not much more than that. because those clouds are certainly lying in nice and thick for us, obviously, some damp roads there in the parking lot and you want to make sure that you have got your windshield wipers ready to go. you'll be needing them. even though not actually raining, typical spray from the vehicles. storm scan3, there you have it, very modest variety of showers. and they will be in our forecast pretty much at will today. they'll sort of pop up at any time. so, i would say, that today is definitely a better driving day if you have got travel plans by comparison to tomorrow. but you will get slowed down out there, regardless, meanwhile, it is mild outside. already into the mid upper 40's, many spots, we expect to not really gain too much more

on the thermometer readings, but normal high about 42, 43 degrees. so, that said, it will absolutely be a milder afternoon by comparison to what we're used to, and we will continue that theme even into tomorrow. jess, we send over to you. >> thank you, katie. good morning, everybody, 6:04. yes, we are seeing a lot of misting out on major roadways here. we go out and show you, that's what i am talking about out on 95. see around the airport, when people drive by, little bit of traffic here. but you can see when they drive by, you can see some misting and ponding like around the roadways, coming out from underneath the cars as they drive on by. so we know the roadways are wet. and possibly a little bit slippery. so just err on the side of caution and take your time. over on 422 at oaks, eastbound delay, westbound lanes moving just fine. first accident of the morning, popped up, on the roosevelt boulevard southbound at harbison avenue taking out the outer drive there. use some caution. 202 northbound from route 30 into the schuylkill expressway, still clear, that's about 13 minutes and 14

minute on the schuylkill from the blue route into the vine street expressway if you are headed eastbound currently no problems. everything out in new jersey still okay. forty-two freeway, little wet there. fifty-five good. and no problems on 295 in the north for southbound directions, diana, back over to you. >> thank, jess, protests against police are expected to continue in new york, and beyond, despite calls from the city's mayor, to pause demonstrations until after two officers funerals. >> don champion reports live from new york with the plea for calm, and also more on the investigation surrounding the accused shooter. don, good morning. >> good morning, erika and diane a the mayor called for calm came as he and the police commissioner visited the grieving families of the two officers who were killed, meantime, investigators now have new clues on what exactly the gunman was doing moment before that deadly encounter on saturday. >> this is a difficult time for both of our families. >> as families of wenjian liu

and rafael ramos prepared to lay their loved ones to rest, new york city mayor bill de blasio called for a moment of reflection. >> until these funerals are passed, let's focus just on these families and what they have lost. >> reporter: but protesters like this group that stage add sit-in at grand central terminal monday vowed to keep up the fight. >> if anything, this is a time to protest even more report report they don't want ismael's brinsley's act to recall from police reform. >> seems like a plan to try to attack this one guy with the hundreds of thousands of protesters who have been protesting against bliss brutal any general. >> along with posting threats against police on stain gram, they say brinsley watched and reported a protest in the city earlier this month, but did not participate. his sister maintains he was not targeting police. >> he was emotionally troubled. it had nothing to do with police retaliation.

>> authorities released last known video of brinsley caring a small white bag possibly with the gun he used to kill the officers inside. they're now trying to piece together where he was in the hours before the shooting. >> now the mayor says he does plan on attending the funerals of both officers, officer ramos' funeral, scheduled for this weekend, and we're told officer wenjian liu will be laid to rest once more of his family members arrive in new york from china. erika, diana, back to you. >> don champion for just new york, thank you. meanwhile, hundreds protest a decision not to charge a fired milwaukee police officer who shot and killed a man with a history of mental illness. the milwaukee county district attorney said evidence showed christopher manny's use of force was justified. manny shot hamilton 14 times during confirm takes in a downtown park on april 30th. the former officer is now trying to get his job back. >> cuba deals a blow to the new jersey state police who are trying to bring one of the

country's most wanted criminals back home. joanne escaped to cuba after convicted of killing a state trooper in the 19 70s. now, cuban president, raoul castro's regime, says it has the right to grant asylum to american fugitives, despite an agreement to restore full relations with the us. there is a $2 million reward for joanne's arrest. ten year old boy is hospitalized this morning after getting hit by vehicle in bristol township. chopper three over the scene last night at lakeland and foster avenues. that boy was taken to st. mary medical center. the driver did stop at the scene. >> the time now 6:08. hundreds gather for a vigil at souderton area high school in remembrance after life cut tragically short. ninth grader nina flick was killed along with five relatives last week after police say bradley stone went on a murderous rampage. nina's 17 year old brother, anthony, also a souderton high school student, was the lone survivor. he remains hospitalized with

too. also, temperatures begin to decline, headed into sunday, and monday. but, guys, you can always stay on top of all things weather just by texting us, text the word cbs-3 weather at 84816. that will sign you up for eyewitness weather text alert. jess, over to you. >> good morning, everybody, at 15:00. we have not much in the way of volume, still, even though, little bit later, 6:15 here, the blue route at mcdade boulevard, everything still moving great. you can see, some misting from coming up from underneath the cars as they drive on by, we know the roadways are wet there. so headed northbound okay, southbound looking good there, as well. over on 95, at girard, starting to really pack in a little bit after punch here in the southbound lanes headed toward the center city area. you can see the cameras have little bit of risidual water on them, and everybody kind of moving little bit slowly, northbound lanes moving just little bit better. few accident as we do know it is little slippery outside the pa turnpike eastbound at the delaware valley, and an accident on the roosevelt boulevard southbound, at harbison avenue on the outer drive. everything still pretty clear,

most of our majors, but we still need to take your time. 202 northbound from route 30 into the schuylkill. that's about 13 minute trip and 15 minute on the schuylkill if you are headed eastbound from the blue route into the vine street expressway. currently no problems for anything out in new jersey, 42, 55, 295, all looking good, north and southbound directions, and great alternate for you today septa, new jersey transit and dart, all running on time with no reported delays, diana, back over to you. >> police investigating a shooting in south philadelphia this morning. that sent one man to the hospital. just after 1:00 o'clock in the morning, at least eight shots were fired, at 33 year old man near 25th and moore streets. he was hit in the back by one of those shots. the gunman got away. >> also a gunman got away after shooting a three year old boy inside a grays ferry home, and a man on the street outside. those injuries are not life threatening. this is about a mile from the south philadelphia shooting. north korea denies any involvement in the cyber attack on sony pictures this morning. meanwhile, internet service in north korea is back up and running after an outage that

a double shooting in broad daylight in philadelphia's grays ferry neighborhood. one of the victims, a three year old boy. >> searching for the gunman, "eyewitness news", jan carabeo, pick up that story at children's hospital where we under stands the little boy is recovering. >> erika, diane, a good morning, that's right, at last check, this three year old toddler, who was shot and wounded yesterday, is here at chop, in stable condition, and he's expected to make a full recovery, in the meantime, as you mentioned, this shooting investigation continues today. the hunt for the shoot is her still on. take a look at the video. see where this shooting unfolds in the broad daylight, monday morning, just before noon on the 1300 block of south newkirk street, in the city's grays ferry section. now, police say, a gunman approached a man, who was sitting on his porch. the two got into some sort of argument, and then at some point, the unknown gunman

opened fire striking that man in the leg, that shooting, may have been a case of mistaken identity, because police say the shooter then went next-door, opened fire into that home. that's when the three year old was shot in the leg we're told the child child's father ma have been the intended target. meantime, "eyewitness news", did speak with the adult victim zero tim's mother-in-law who is upset with what seems to be an indifference in the neighborhood toward gun violence, take a listen. >> complacency of people not to call 911 you have heard six shots outside your door? where are the morals. >> i thought nothing of it, because around here, it is frequently you hear gunshots. so a lot of people usually just turn the other way. >> now that department victim shot once in the leg was able to drove himself to the morning, and at last check, he is in stable condition, and is expected to be okay.

>> jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thank you, jan. the former head master of a private school in delaware faces 50 years in prison this morning, convicted of dealing child pornography. a jury found christopher wheeler guilty yesterday, wheeler is the former head master at tower hill school, he resigned in october of 2013, and has been behind bars ever since, found more than 2,000 images of child porn important at wheeler's home, sentenced on march 27th. meanwhile, a delaware day care work is her facing charges, police say, 40 year old tanya robinson left two kids in an s.u.v., while she went shopping friday, in newark. while she was shopping, that suv got repossessed and towed away, with the kids inside. the tow truck driver discovered children ages one and five when he got back to the tow yard. he says the suv was full of stuff and he couldn't see the kids when he towed it. robinson has been a rain and is free on bail this morning.

about 2.55, but under $2 a gallon some places? not bad. >> haven't seen it in years. >> the gift that keeps on giving. >> there you go. right now 6:36. five years after the financial crisis and the great recession, 2014 was turning point for the us economy. jill for a look at the year in review. good morning, jill. >> good morning. how many did the economy do in 2014? >> i like doing the segment, good year. started when some weakness, unusually coal weather but that blue through, and so after we contracted by 2.1% in the first three month of the year, we recovered. 4.6% gross know two quarter, 3.9% in the third, fourth quarter probably two and a half percent. that means for the year economy grew probably by about two and a quarter. better than the last cup many of years, but still below the long-term average 3.3%. but steady improvement.

that's the theme of the economy this year. >> also helped with jobs, right. >> oh, 2014 is on pace to be the best year for job creation, since 1999. how about that for performance? through november the economy has added just over 2.6 million jobs, unemployment rate at 5.8%, it is down from 6.7 at the end of last year. >> number every people out of work six months, peak at over 6 million, worth 2.8 million. that's down from 3.9 about a year ago, also the longest level for lowest level sorry for long-term un em ploit since january of 2009. >> so far all good news, how about the markets? >> even better news here. both the stock and bond markets have performed far better than any analyst expected at the beginning of the year. we got new high on the s&p 500 yesterday by the way the 50th all time high closed for

the year, it is up 12.45%, little bit, little decimal point to give you extra boost. month markets seeing good gains, broad us index up about 6%. biggest market story of 2014, you talk about it in the lead-in, the near 50% drop in crude oil prices, from the june high's, the plunging oil prices have caused the price after gallon of regular gas to drop, down by about 35% from spring levels. so, all-in-all, i'll say, a pretty darn good year so far. here's hoping for better 2015. >> just in, 71 vehicles are in high marks from the insurance institute for highway safety. toyota including it lexus, and see on brands, had the most vehicles. twelve in all winning at least a top safety pick award. honda and it luxury brand acura had the second most award winners with ten, the institute puts vehicles for various crash test toss measure how well they project

the coast guard has rescued a man after his plane crashed off the bahamas. the on its way to fort lauderdale when the air force rescue coordination center got word that the plane was off course. coast guard crew found the submerged aircraft and the pilot in the water. we're told that pilot is in stable condition. we'll right back. first what's coming up tonight on cbs-3.
