system. zooming out, you cane still another push, wet weather as this area moves through, it is severe then are storm watch for ohio, as this line, moves through that area. so another wave, to be anticipated, overnight and early christmas morning. what we are dealing with now is worst of it, it is fog, still pockets of steady rain here and there but visability have been low. they are coming up with the break in the rain in the city but half mile in lancaster, 1.3 miles in reading and 1.3 miles in trenton. the dense fog, will continue through this evening, visibility at times, will be a half a mile or less, and slow down leave yourself plenty of time because fog comes up on you quickly, use those low beams, most of the fog will disperse after about 10:00 p.m. timing this out, not much more in the way of steady rain through tonight, we will see a few scattered showers but watch what happens overnight 2:00 a.m. right about the time santa may be due to arrive. we have another round of steady rain that will continue through 5:00 a.m. and by 7:00 a.m. that moves off the coast, 9:00 a.m. we will see sunshine. things looking better and you

can see visability will stay low throughout the evening hour and then gradually come up through the overnight into christmas morning. better news heading in the holiday weekend. i will that have in a bit but for now lets check out real time conditions on the roadways. we will send it out to meteorologist carol erickson live from the mobile weather lab in cherry hill, hi carol. >> well, you know, kate, i'm in the cherry hill mall right now. roads getting here were wet but not nearly as busy a as what we are find nothing these malls. now this mall, cherry hill mall, close is a at 6:00 o'clock tonight. we have seen people backing out of spaces and three cars trying to get in. obviously people have not done all of the shopping that they are supposed to be doing and have done by this point. let's turn down here and you can see where we're right outside macy's, rain has stopped which is a good thing for people trying to juggle packages and also bring some gifts into the car. but boy, we are looking at a crowded, here is people now, just heading in to the mall, this mall has less than an hour to go, before everybody

gets here, you know, the other spot that was really, really crowded, that was, the liquor store, the the liquor store, parking lot on the way here, it was, packed, so people, are doing all their holiday things getting ready to not go out tomorrow and this is what results, a traffic jam, christmas eve, with the last minute shoppers, but for the tonightly the rain for now, has tapered off, it is mild too. no jackets needed out here. we have a temperature of 65 degrees on the mobile weather lab. reporting live from the mobile weather lab, i'm carol erickson back to you in the studio. >> that is where all of the people are, thanks very much. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live at philadelphia international airport tonight. the rain and fog out there causing travel trouble up and down the east coast on this christmas eve, hi, matt. >> reporter: hi, jessica. travelers here enduring holiday headaches, as we call them around these parts this time of the year. right now the the average flight delay at philly international, stands at two

hours. i will show you this rifle board over my shoulder, you can see nearly every single one of those flights on that board is now delayed. those flights joined hundreds of others from throughout the day day that have been delayed as well as nearly 40 that have been canceled, out right. flight delays, cancellations, and crowds, seemingly annual holiday headaches. >> there is people that is just rude people out there that will push, shove you. there is people out there that is mean. >> reporter: thankfully though we saw little will of have that on wednesday at philly international, crowds were calm ape there was not a battle for that power outlet. >> as people get to the destination, airlines have planned fewer flights. >> reporter: mary flanerie works for the airport and says christmas eve can be a breeze compared to other more food-oriented holidays. >> thanksgiving and sunday of thanksgiving weekend is busiest travel day because it is a concentrated day. this holiday is more spread out. >> reporter: just because crowds were thin, doesn't mean

northeast philadelphia and then took off this happened on the 8100 block of state road in holmesberg last night. and just a short time ago "eyewitness news" reporter charlotte huffman spoke to the family. >> just come forward and tell us, on a holiday like this do something for us. >> reporter: plea for help on christmas eve from a family, torn apart by the death of three three-year old teresa a p.o.zi. >> anyone saw anything, a license tag, anything, anymore of a description, please, please come forward. >> reporter: philadelphia police say the person responsible for the hit and run, faces vehicular homicide charges and was driving a late 80's or early 90's, dark colored pick up or tow truck, and it is missing this headlight. it is the only evidence, left at the scene along with pozi. she had just left current fromhold where she was visiting in prison.

she was right about here when she crossed the street, headed for the bus stop. >> i saw her like walk up to the center line, and then she was gone. and then her cell phone and purse hit my car. >> reporter: some drivers, stopped to help. >> it does give me some comfort to know that my daughter, did not die alone, and she would not be left on the side on the road like she was nothing. >> reporter: eyewitnesses told police the driver never even hit the brakes. >> these women or men, whoever were there cannot leave her alone. thank you. thank you for a person who knew, they clearly hit her. you are heartless. you are cruel. and god will make his way to you. whoever you are. >> reporter: charlotte huffman for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". investigators are continuing their search for the driver of that pick up, or

tow truck and they are asking anyone with any information to call 911. overnight crash in north philadelphia, send at least three police officers to the hospital, "eyewitness news" on between the second street in montgomery avenue, where we're told two cruisers collided at the intersection of the offices responded to a report of a nearby shooting. those officers went to the hospital to get checked out, one officer is being treated for a concussion. and an overturn dump truck shut down, the vine street expressway, for hours, today, and the driver of the truck was injured when it rolled over just before 5:00 a.m. on i676 near between the second street in center city. for hours, all westbound lanes were blocked between ben franklin parkway and schuylkill expressway eastbound. we're told that truck driver is in stable condition tonight. investigators ruled the fire that tore through an apartment complex, in claymont, delaware was accidental. at least six families were displaced when fire broke out sunday morning at valley run

apartment complex at butt arenet court. officials determined the fire was caused by a stove being used to heat a second floor apartment. three people suffered minor injuries in that fire and damage is estimated at $500,000. tonight the mayor of the st. louis suburb of berkley is calling for calm, this just hours after another deadly shooting, and police officer, police say that pulled the gun on the officer just miles from where michael brown died in august. correspondent, now has the story. >> reporter: surveillance video taken from a gas station, shows the moment before an officer shot and killed 18 year-old antonio martin. >> the individual, released a pistol, and it is arm straight out and pointed out across the hood of the police car and at that point the officer, produced his service weapon and fired, what we think at this point is three shots. >> reporter: police say the officer was investigating a

theft in berkley, missouri last night when he approached martin and his friend. shooting sparked violent protests. police say several officers were hurt. a woman who identified herself as martin's mother says her son was trying to get his life back together. >> he was trying to get him back in school and stuff. get back his job core. >> reporter: incident happened just 2 miles from ferguson where officer darren wilson fatally shot unarmed 18 year old michael brown back in august touching off protest was some turning violent. things got heated at a news conference when berkley's mayor tried to point out differences between this situation and ferguson. >> call it what it is, a police officer has killed another young black man. >> truly you don't believe that every person or every black that is killed is because of the white policeman? >> reporter: city and county are both investigating the shooting. in dallas omar villafranca for

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". islamic state fighters captured a jordan pilot participating in the u.s. led coalition fight begins that terror organization. isis released photos on social media of the pilot after coalition war plane went down in syria today. in a statement the u.s. says isis did not shoot down that plane as they initially claim. the statement did not site a cause for the crash. there are concerns tonight about that pilot's safety, isis militants beheaded three americans and several other hostages. more internet issues for north korea, a research company says a second web blackout occurred in the isolated state tuesday. this blackout lasted until this morning, north korea first lost all internet access from more than nine hours on monday. the incidents come following a sign's tack on sony pictures. the united states blames on north korea. sony originally pulled its movie the the interest right after getting terrorist threats from the cyber

carolers on the front steps of the first baptist church put many in the holiday spirit in center city today. they celebrated the birth of jesus christ with the special service and pledge to the homeless. thousands of pilgrims are filling the streets of the west bank town of bethlehem, that is all decked out in lights as it gives up to host traditional ceremonies. town is celebrated by christians as the birthplace of jesus, palestinian authorities have tighten

we are tracking santa on this christmas eve. we are full service at cbs-3. thinks the look an program u.s. military uses to make sure santa and his reindeer have a smooth ride for children every where. so don't worry, norad is using radar, satellites and jet fighters to track jolly saint nick. so, all is well, as he makes his way. kate, you will be tracking

santa as well using your great equipment, all your computers and also hopefully brought rain slicker. >> yes, he will need it when santa arrives here in philadelphia overnight we have another round of heavy rain to deal w we will track santa all night long. we are looking at improving conditions and then deteriorating conditions again unfortunately but santa flies through everything. not to worry, he will get here. lets look at what is happening outside right now. we are looking better. we can see tops of the buildings here in center city philadelphia we still have fog, laying to the ground out there. please be safe, as i mentioned we are not out of the woods with this storm just yet. look at storm scan three. we have kind of two waves to deal with, one moving through right now, that is moving out. still some rain to deal with, you can see one batch off to the west but it is this one, look at the squall line that developed over ohio. very warm conditions and thunderstorms that have developed a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for that part of the region. we may hear thunder in spots late overnight as that system

northeast philadelphia. police say that three three-year old teresa pozi was at state road and holmesberg near the correctional facility. tonight her family is pleading for the driver who hit her to come forward. the interview is in limited distribution, on line and in some theaters, following the sign's tack. it will open in ten cinema river front in wilmington tomorrow. that is the only local theater showing the film. christmas eve travelers flying out of town encountered headaches at the airport. this ugly wet weather has canceled or delayed many flights. the rain, fog and slick conditions are hampering travel also on the roadways, kate? jessica, it has been a miserable christmas eve if you are out and about, saved your shopping for today, maybe you have learned your lesson this time around because it was not fun to be outside on the road today. most of the heavy rain is moving away, for now you can see pushing off the coast here, for steady rain along shore points and we have

craig boswell shows us the troubled travel picture. >> reporter: millions of americans are hoping that the weather doesn't ruin their travel plans. >> it should be okay, it is not like snow arm am or something. >> reporter: from missouri to maine forecasters predict rain and some places fog and snow on one of the busiest travel days of the year. many travelers are taking flight delays in stride. >> i would like to not say stressful but it is stressful but we will go with the flow. we have lowered our expectations. >> reporter: nearly 6 million travelers are flying this holiday season, cancellations at reagan national have been light so far while chicago's o'hare has taken a bigger hit. >> you just to have make the best out of the bad situation. >> reporter: by wednesday afternoon 100 flights in and out of chicago's o'hare have been canceled but most americans are taking advantage of the low gas prices in five years and they are driving to their holiday destinations. >> wonderful that it is low. y'all need to lower it more. >> reporter: triple a says

90 million americans will celebrate the holiday season with the road trip and overall this is the highest travel volume since it started keeping records in 2001. craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". parts of the mississippi are under a state of emergency after tornadoes killed four people and injured dozens more. marion and southern miss game the brunt of the storm. crews are still taking stock of the damage tonight. thousands of people will spend christmas eve without power, some, lost their home. police in columbia are stationed in major intersections as traffic lights were swept away or destroyed. former president george hw bushies spending christmas eve in a houston hospital. ninety year-old was admitted last night after experiencing shortness of breath. spokesperson says all is well and bush was hospitalized simply as a precaution, president obama and the first lady have sent their good wishes to the forty-first president and his family. the first family is spending christmas in hawaii.

today president obama went for a hike with his doubt's long a trail, as reporters and photographers watched from the distance. the president also spent sometime on the gym at a marine core base and played a round of golf with some friends. local community leaders along with philadelphia's star little league pitcher mone davis spread holiday cheer to families in need. davis put down her baseball glove to play one of santa's elfs today as part of the operation holiday help. those toys were delivered just in time for christmas to seven families in southwest and southwest philadelphia. as we celebrate the holidays, pennsylvania is adjusting its policy about, of all things, beer delivery. reporter steve towa of our sister station kyw news radio shows us what is on tap. >> reporter: while there is new new lah to allow for home delivery of beer, path liquor control board is clarifying regulations for previously established transporter for hire license. it means restaurants, taverns, delis, pizza, hoagie shops

that serve food and beer will transport up to the limit which works out to two, six packs. >> this is convenient. >> reporter: at the south philadelphia taproom owner john long acre, president of the philadelphia tavern owners association, says it is long overdue. >> it will allow 11,000 licenses statewide to be able to literally bring beer into your house. >> reporter: pennsylvania is known for having archaic liquor store. >> reporter: consumers do not pay drivers when beer is delivered because sales under pennsylvania state law must occur at retail establishment. that means you could use the phone, pay by credit card prior to the delivery. >> i like beer. i like being at home. pretty good combination. >> it limits it to the equivalent of two, six packs. >> i would have to come up with multiple personality. >> reporter: delivery drivers will be trained to seek proper id and will not serve to people, who cannot verify their age. wine and liquor are still not allowed for home delivery. steve towa for kyw news radio

well, it is christmas eve, even if it feels more like easter time, because temperatures are well above average, in fact, we could be heading for a record, over the next couple of hours. the temperatures keep rising. the lets check with our weather watchers and see what they are feeling where they live on this christmas eve. we will start off at 63 degrees from ron russell in riverside, new jersey reporting some rain. he said feels like 65 degrees. crazy out there. you don't to have wear a coat

it is christmas season port richmond girl collected presents for children in her neighborhood. those children have parents who have fallen on hard times, and as eyewitness news anchor ukee washington shows news this weeks story of brotherly love, neighbors pitched into help. >> teenager came up with the idea in 2009, now it is a yearly project. sarah swear owes her mother and aunt have big bags of presents to drop off at cheer's cafe in port richmond. bar is serving as ground zero for toy collection, filling up fast with games, trucks and even bikes. >> i love it. >> reporter: sixteen year old sarah, started collecting toys five years ago for her catholic confirmation project. the recession hit the neighborhood hard.

>> port richmond is a working-class neighborhood a lot of union guys, and then all of a sudden they are out of work. >> reporter: that year they collect toys and gift cards for nine families. >> after it was over and we delivered she said i would like to do this every year. >> it is crazy how much people need help, and i'm glad i can help them. >> reporter: she calls it project christmas angel, the owner of cheers cafe was happy to help sore toys. >> with everything going on in the world today if you can help, it is worth it. >> reporter: she's helping almost 40 families this year, it is not just toys either. >> we buy gift cards and every family gets a gift card. >> reporter: identities of the families are kept under wraps but sarah and her family, get to meet each one. >> it is just that christmas feeling that you get when you are helping somebody out. >> some people say they wouldn't have had christmas, and i can control that. >> reporter: local sports teams like phillies and flyers have donated items to raffle
