>> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> ♪ taps ♪ >> a city in mourning. tens of thousands gather for the funeral of a new york city police officer killed along with his partner in an ambush shooting. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks so much for joining us. men and women in blue, they lined the streets of queens to say goodbye to officer rafael ramos. the service was attended by several dignitaries including vice president joe biden. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: a heartbreaking exchange outside christ

tabernacle church in queens saturday morning. the widow officer rafael ramos accepted the u.s. flag that was draped over his coffin. >> ♪ >> reporter: inside family fellow officers and politicians including vice president joe biden honored the officer who was is that so naderd in his police car along with his partner officer wenjan liu one week ago. >> when an assassins bullet targeted two officers, it targeted this city and it touched the soul of the entire nation. (applause). >> reporter: new york city mayor bill deblasio got a plight reception in the church. >> new york city has lost a hero. >> reporter: but outside hundreds of police officers turned their backs when the mayor spoke. siding with union officials who say deblasio helped foster an antipolice climate that may have contributed to the shootings. as many as 25,000 police officers from around the country create add sea of blue for several blocks.

black strips covering their badges. >> we all serve for the same team and we want to come out and make a difference. >> ♪ >> reporter: after the casket was brought outside police helicopters flew overhead. and hundreds of officers on motorcycles led the procession to the cemetery. there was another large show of support thousands of ribbons tied to poles and fences all over the community. ramos and lou were posthumously promoted to the rank of detective. wendy gillette for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> this tragedy is also being felt throughout the ranks of the philadelphia police department. dozens of local officers traveled to new york to pay their respects today. these are just a few pictures they shared with "eyewitness news" as thousands mourned their fallen brother. >> unfortunately we do know what that feels like because we've had our own tragedies near philadelphia, but we're going to keep them in prayer, i mean that entire death it's a large department but as well as their extended family and

we're part of that as far as we're concerned. >> well, they were also joined by police departments throughout the region as well. these pictures were sent to us from officers from gloucester county upper darby township camden county and berkeley township just to name a few. today we continue to see more protests in the wake of the grand jury decisions in ferguson and new york. >> hands up, don't shooter. >> a peaceful demonstration held here in center city. it was organized by several local muslim groups to address what they call police brutality against the black community. a number of high ranking officers were also there to keep the dialogue open. meantime the mummers parade in philadelphia is known for its glitz and glamour but this year some of those marching will be wearing something else in honor of missing college student shane montgomery. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live in manayunk to tell us more about it. matt. >> reporter: natasha green ribbons like those on the two trees behind me are all over

the place here in manayunk, the last place that shane montgomery was seen. there said, on new year's day you'll see plenty of those green ribbons on broad street as well. a christmas just spent without their son shane montgomery's parents now face another holiday new year's day not knowing where he is but that doesn't mean there aren't people still hoping. >> to honor shane and the family and to keep hope alive that's what these guys are going to do. >> reporter: on new year's day mummers will wear green ribbons in honor of the 21-year-old. shane disappeared on thanksgiving morning. his keys were found in there river near the bar where he was last spotter but police still have not found him. the green ribbons are meant to remind people that shane is still out there. >> i don't know any of these gentlemen but i know right now they're my brothers and when they're walking up broad street there's not going to be a bigger fan than this guy right here. >> reporter: shane's mom pinned ribbons on mummers saturday morning. their goal is simple.

>> we just trying to get these ribbons to every club. i want to see a sea of green ribbons coming down broad street. >> reporter: organizers say the response from mummers across philadelphia has been quite large so far. so we can expect to see a lost green on broad street on new year's morning. we're live in manayunk tonight, matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> allall right matt thank you very much. authorities in delaware are looking for a man who tried to rob a local sports bar armed with a broom handle. police got the call last night from the chestnut hill sports bar in newark. a manager tells us he attacked her and demanded money from the register. after a bit of a struggle he ran off empty handed. police say he was wearing blue jeans and a green shirt. and police released the name of a motorcyclist killed in a crash in king of prussia. chopper three was over that scene last night at river road and mccoy's lane. police say eric keifer of conshohocken crossed over the double yellow line and collided head on with a truck. keifer was killed instantly. the driver of the truck was

flown to the hospital but he's expected to recover. philadelphia police are searching for the suspects in two separate grocery store robberies. the first happened tuesday at susan's grocery on south 13th street. police say two suspects demanded money from the clerk. one pulled a gun they got away with about $500. on thursday police respond to do a robbery in progress at joe's food market at 1900 east passyunk avenue. the suspect ran off without getting any money. if you can identify either of these suspects please contact police right away. several fights break out among hundreds of teenagers who packed a pittsburgh area mall. police say large groups of teenagers started showing up around 5:00 p.m. on friday with crowds swelling to as many as a thousand. at least two people were hospitalized with minor injuries. the chaos forced the monroeville mall to close early. >> there was all this commotion and there were -- you just heard like a stampede

and a bunch of people screaming and yelling and then all of the people that worked at the store came running to the front of the store and shut all the doors and locked you in. >> police say there was minor damage done to the mall. they don't believe it was an organized event or protest. meantime some very tense moments on the tarmac. a jetblue flight was delayed in long beach, california, for nearly two hours because of a bomb threat. police say someone tweeted the threat to the airline as the plane was arriving from seattle. officers searched the jet but didn't find anything suspicious. the incident remains under investigation at this hour. north korea issuing a statement now denouncing sony pictures' release of the movie "the interview." it called president obama the "chief culprit who forced the production company to distribute the film." the statement denounced the u.s. for blaming north korea for a hacking attack on sony pictures earlier this movement it said the u.s. should produce evidence of its claims. the white house's national

great to be outside. we'll get colder air over the next few days. they'll be able to crank the snow guns up again and put down fresh snow as we head for the middle part of next week. highs today, look at this, 57 degrees. the afternoon high in philadelphia, 56 trenton. up in mount pocono we're still going to keep it mild for the rest of the weekend. look at this compared to yesterday at this time anywhere from about one to even 11 degrees warmer so that's a sign of that warmer air mass building in. things however change a little bit as we head over the next 12 hours. right now partly cloudy skies but clouds will filter from the west through the overnight hours and showers are beginning to develop south and we have the as a cold front approaches us tomorrow so look for some wet weather returning to finish off the weekend. jet stream still to our north allowing milder air to move northward. highs on sunday still above average. we start to level out that jet stream and actually drop it a little farther south next week. come tuesday you'll feel the difference. some of that colder canadian air spills southward. as we finish off 2014 we'll talk about temperatures below

average. i'll show that you in the seven-day forecast. overnight clouds return. tomorrow morning it stays drive. looks like late morning into the afternoon we start to see some showers returning all across the delaware valley. not an all day washout. nothing too heavy, just off and on showers at times. we clear it out later sunday night. monday looks good with more sunshine. how much rain are we talking about? not a whole lot? maybe a quarter inch or less. it's not a big storm system, just a cold front pushing through. tomorrow morning waking up mid 40's approaching that 50 degrees for the afternoon high. it's into monday, little bit cooler lower to mid 40's for our temperatures the. so overnight still chilly, partly cloudy, low 42 but it's not as cold as it was last night. and then for tomorrow, mostly cloudy skies, we'll see those showers around especially during the afternoon and in the evening. high temperatures though still well above average. 50 degrees. we should be in the low 40's this time of year. looking ahead to 2015, new year's eve forecast, right now we're going to keep it dry. clear to partly cloudy skies. it's going to be cold, though.

temperatures around midnight new year's eve coming in at a chilly 28 degrees. so, that's a sign of things to come can as we led to 215. 50 degrees for the high and sunday. clouds around, some showers during the afternoon. monday we're at partly sunny 45 and then the cold air returns tuesday wednesday and thursday high temperatures below average in the 30's but looks like a storm will pass just by to our south on tuesday just bring something clouds. sunshine returns both for new year's eve and new year's day. next weekends we start to warm it back up above average for showers for next saturday. that's a check of the fo the holiday season is here, which means it's time for the volkswagen
