in the water. the rescue team said they're 95% sure they've located flight 8501. mark albert is in washington. good morning. >> indonesia authorities tell authorities that those bodies did not have life jackets on. and the exit doors five or six miles from the plane's last known location. >> reporter: crews searching for airasia flight 8501 are looking to recover red, white items off the island. the items are most likely items from the plane. indonesia authorities have reported they've spotted victims in the water. aircraft from several countries are taking part in the aerial search including australia. >> australia is in an area as

requested by authorities. >> reporter: the u.s. is part of the efforts. "u.s.s. sampson" has joined planes and ships which had been expanded to cover land. the missing plane with 132 people on board vanished after the plane's captain requested to fly at high altitude because of bad weather. the request was denied because of heavy air traffic. in addition, investigators will look at if the plane was going too slow. mechanical error. airasia has agreed to fly relatives of the missing over the search area. shortly after the bodies were found the airline's ceo tweets my heart is filled with sadness for all. on behalf of airasia my

condolences to all words can not express how sorry i am lauren. >> mark albert in washington. allen pizzey joins us on the phone with the breaking developments. he's in the indonesian city of surabaya where flight 8501 took off. allen, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, it's quite a scene. relatives of the victims are staying here in a room. when the first pictures of a body floating in the water were broadcast on television. there was a monitor inside with some people going hysterical. local journals are disgusted that it happened. nonetheless, it was done. we understand at least three have been winced up to helicopters and an indonesian navy ship.

a co-pilot of a hurt key lease said when they first spotted bodies they thought the people were waving help and suddenly realized that these are dead bodies and not survivors. earlier today, relatives, representing a group, about five members representing relatives were flown by indonesian military or plane over the spot where more or less the plane was thought to have gone down at that stage. so that they can pray over it. not that they could see anything, but that they could at least pray. and airasia would fly even more of them over the site. there's also been a brief report that one search and rescue plane saw what is described as a shadow on the seafloor which may or may not be the plane. the only good news is where the plane went do you and where the

debris went down five or six miles from the plane is relatively shallow. to find wreckage won't be as difficult as it was for the malaysian airliner that crashed into south asia and has not been found yet. >> allen biz zi thank you. also this morning investigators are trying to figure out what caused a deadly fire that sank a ferry from greece to italy. at least ten people are dead in the disaster. more than 400 passengers were rescued by boat and helicopter. survivors described chaos and confusion on the ship during the 30-hour ordeal. searchers are scouring nearby waters for other passengers. the passengers are making it difficult to know exactly how many people on board. a new theory with the sony hack attack may be gaining traction with investigators. a silicon valley research firm briefed the government about the

research. they say the evidence points is not to north korea, but to hackers who got help from someone recently laid off at sony. >> the primary piece of malware that targets sony contains specific server addresses, user name credentials and even digital certificates that could only have been obtained from an insider or a recent insider at sony. >> a department spokesman said the u.s. stands behind the fbi analysis and remains confident north korea is responsible for the attack. congressman michael grimm plans to resign from office next week saying he can't give the job his full attention. the new york republican pleaded guilty to tax evasion last week. he faces up to 30 months in prison. the congressman gained notoriety when a camera caught him physically threatening a reporter inside the u.s. capitol. one of the most powerful

members of congress is on the defensive for a speech he delivered more than a decade ago. it's not what steve scalise said but his audience. wyatt andrews reports. >> reporter: steve scalise is the house ma majority w.h.i.p. the third highest ranking republican. but in may 2002 his office confirms that scalise spoke to the white supremacist group called euro. and whose president was david duke the former lead of the ku klux klan. according to a statement from his office scalise has never been affiliated with the abhorrent group. and slush funds that wasted millions of taxpayer dollars and his opposition to a proposed tax increase. in louisiana political circles

scalise is known as a prolific speaker but the euro group's affiliation with david duke and its anti-minority issues are well-known in 2002. scalise's office insists he had no idea he was speaking to a david duke group and would not have gone to that speech had he known. but in a group reaching out to minorities this year that could hurt. the release of an autopsy that killed by los angeles police is sparking new protests. demonstrators locked arms on a freeway monday. as john blackstone reports they're upset about the death of an unarmed man at the hands of officers in august. >> hands up don't shoot! >> reporter: more months they were demanding the release of his autopsy. the 25-year-old was shot when he

tried to take an officer's gun. the autopsy shows ford was hit three times. two fatal shots in his right side and back a third shot struck his arm. los angeles please chif. >> it was a struggle where an officer ended up on his back with mr. ford on top of him. with mr. ed for in control of his pistol his uniform pistol. the officer drew his backup gun and reached over mr. ford's back and shot mr. ford in very close proximity. >> reporter: ford was described by his family as bipolar and schizophrenic, a witness contradicts a description of a struggle. >> he put his hands like that they wrestled him to the ground they shot limo. she shot him again. and another two seconds later, they shot him again. >> reporter: ford's family has filed a $45 million wrongful
