"eyewitness news". >> a taste of early spring in early january. temperatures jumped into the 50's today but this uncease plea warm weather is not going the last long. good evening i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. we have a few more hours until the mercury takes a nose dive. >> two arctic blasts come in later on this week. still looking at milder temperatures this evening. not quite done with the rain yet. we're in a break right now. skies are breaking up a little bit west of the city but a few more showers south of jersey may clip extreme southern new jersey but a line of heavier showers along a cold front to the west near harrisburg. that will come through later this evening so give it until about nine, 10 o'clock. after that we should see dry conditions returning. how much rain have we gotten from the storm from yesterday dan? look at doppler radar

easts mates trenton wilmington around 1 inch, little west farther north and south you go. look at the highs today. 55 for philadelphia, mid 60's far south through southern new jersey and dover delaware but cool temperatures in reading and allentown own in thely in the 40's. winds haven't picked up yet but they will once this front passes. enjoy the 50's right now. we're talking 30's and 20's this week ann little light snow. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. stay one step head of the weather forecasts cbsphilly app available now in itunes and google play. >> developing right now the family of shane montgomery tells us his death has been ruled an accident. his viewing will be held at the manayunk church where search teams gathered saint john the baptist on thursday night and again friday morning before the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. shane montgomery disappearedlily thanksgiving morning. the 21-year-old's body was pulled from the schuylkill river in manayunk yesterday after a nearly 40 day search.

thousands attended the funeral of officer wenjan liu in new york city today. he is the second of two officers assassinated as he sat inside his police cruiser december 22. the 32-year-old has been a police officer for seven years. he had only been married for two months. the funeral for his partner officer rafael ramos was just last week. >> days after they were assassinateed slain because they wore blue, i learned what good men they were. >> always in my heart. we love you forever. >> some nypd officers defied the wishes of their police commissioner and turned their backs on mayor deblasio when he spoke at the funeral. as soon as he left the podium they turned back around to face the screen.

now, abington police officer raymond townsend sent us this photo officers who traveled to new york to show their support for their fallen brother in blue. back at home a show of support for local police officers. dozens gathered in delaware county to send a message of peace and appreciation. a message echoed at a similar rally in chester county. steve patterson is johning us live from west chester to tell us more. steve. >> reporter: natasha they called it the step out in blue support rally. more than a thousand people including 14 separate police agencies near chester county all of them representing. we were there as the motorcade roared by. the message in west chester loud and clear citizens support police. the streets and the courthouse packed filling the air with signs and cheers all for one message. >> blue lives matter. >> reporter: a reaction to the state of unrest following the killings and controversies in ferguson and new york. a director show of appreciation on the same day an nypd police officer was laid to rest. he and his partner ambushed and slain. >> when people put their lives on the line it's very important to come out and show your support. >> reporter: chester county commissioner farrell came to show solidarity. >> every law enforcement agency is represented. we all work together. >> reporter: the biggest impact may be coming from the smallest person. >> going around here to support our heroes. >> reporter: we found seven-year-old lexi in a crowd handing out thank you cards to the people she calls heroes. >> military, veterans, police, fire, ambulance that's a hero her. >> reporter: mom karen said it started two years ago. she used her only a how what

killed. one man says he heard it all happen. >> i heard i think five shots so -- and i told one of the guy over that i say i think they shot the dawk so he came up here and he showed me the picture. it was a dog dead on the street. >> witnesses say another dog was seen taken from that scene by animal control officers. the injured officer is listed in stable condition. a man is shot to death in cobbs creek and tonight philadelphia police say the gunman still on the loose. the victim was found slumped over in the driver's seat of a car on dell lanes street last night. investigators have identified him as michael rodriguez. a $20,000 reward is being offered in this case. espn sportscaster stuart scott has died following a long battle with cancer. he was just 49 years old. the network said scott passed away today and had fought cancer since a diagnosis late in 2007.

espn president called scott a true friend and inspirational figure. coming up in sports, lesley van arsdale has more on how stuart scott is being remembered. a trip down the pennsylvania turnpike is going to cost you a little extra starting today. all tolls along the highway were raised by 5 percent. on the average it comes out to about five cents more for ez pass customers and 10 cents more if you're paying cash. where is this extra money going? a spokesman for the turnpike commission tells us they have certain financial obligations to meet. >> primarily those obligations are number one obviously to maintain and to improve our own 550-mile toll road system but also to provide some supplemental funding to the pennsylvania department of transportation. >> reconstruction and widening projects are currently under way along some parts of the turnpike. as for the supplemental funding to penndot it costs the commission $450 million

>> bad weather hits they're out on the roads helping to keep you safe but a salt driver near pittsburgh ran into trouble. he says he lost control on some ice and the truck slid down a hill. it came to rest against the side this house leaving a large hole in the wall. fortunately though neither the homeowner or the driver were injured. federal investigators in kentucky they say the seven-year-old girl who was the lone survivor of a plane crash may be key to determining exactly what happened. sailor gutzler freed herself from the wreckage and walked nearly a mile to get help. she hearne family was traveling from key west to illinois. her parents sister and cousin were all killed. now nearly two years after

the boston marathon bombing the trial for the alleged mastermind about to begin. tomorrow attorneys will begin choosing a jury that will decide the fate of dzhokhar tsarnaev. he's accused of conspiring with his late brother to plant two bombs near the marathon finish line. three people were killed, more than 260 were injured. if convicted he could face the death penalty. president barack obama meantime he's back in washington after a two-week holiday vacation in hawaii. the president's public schedule picks back up on tuesday when he meets with the president of mexico. he'll also travel later in the week to michigan, arizona and tennessee. pope francis has chosen 15 new cardinals. it is the seconds time he's appointed cardinals since being elected. the names will be announced during a meeting on valentine's day but we're told they come from 13 different country. last year pope francis installed 19 cardinals. the choice of cardinal is important because they will vote for the next pope.

milder temperatures. it's going to get cold up that were this week so no problems cranking out some fresh snow from the snow guns. let's go to storm scan3. not quite done with the rain. you can see we're in a little bit of a break right now with some thinning in the clouds. there's a line with heavier showers near harrisburg that's moving to the east so those will get in here later on this evening. that's the actual cold front that will bring in that colder air and you can see it west of pittsburgh there's snow breaking out across the lakes and cold air filters in to the east. compared to yesterday 16 degrees warm interphiladelphia, 22 wilmington, 42 in mount pocono. it's not going to lat. 55 at the airport in philadelphia and trenton, 61 millville, 65 in the capital city of delaware and even farther south than delaware in georgetown they tied a record today at 70 degrees. pittsburgh at 40, 48 in state college. the cold front comes through overnight hours so we'll be talking about a big change. today's high mid-50's in

philadelphia, tomorrow struggling to get into the upper 30's so almost 20 degrees colder than today. winds start to kick up overnight once that front passes the gusty winds continue at times through monday morning into the afternoon so despite air temperatures in the upper 30's we're talking about wind chill values in the 20's most likely during the day on monday. true arctic air will start to spill in for wednesday and thursday as another arctic front passes through. then we're talking about high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year. we should be around 40 so we're talking mid-20's at best for the actual temperatures. 30's tomorrow, mostly sunny skies. it's going to be windy. winds lighten up for tuesday but this is a weak clipper system that will move through quickly tuesday, it will bring a period of light snow looks like mid morning into early afternoon tuesday. not going to bring a whole lot, maybe up to an inch in some spots. then it's just windy and cold until wednesday. showers will come to an end late tonight through the overnight hours. back to sunshine on monday. clouds will quickly build back in monday night tuesday. here's some of that light snow moving in from the west early tuesday morning.

again, light period of snow through midafternoon tuesday could pick up an inch and then maybe a snow shower or a flurry during the day wednesday. so overnight showers early then clearing skies late. we drop to about 34 degrees. windy day monday, mostly sunny 37 for the afternoon high. winds gusting to around 30 miles per hour. here's the extended forecast. so, sunny skies return for monday, clouds move in tuesday with a period of light snow. temperature around freezing on tuesday, so any snow that does fall will stick. it gets colder each day. wednesday 28 degrees for the high, still windy with sunshine. thursday that's the coldest day with a high of 24. wind chill values likely to be below zero at times in the morning. by the weekend a little bit warmer but still pretty chilly in the mid 30's. winter is setting in. >> a little bit of everything. >> i know. >> thank you so much justin. >> sure. >> jeez lee is here with sports highlights. >> wild card weekend continues. we'll start with the afc game between the bengals and colts. before the game there was a moment of silence for stuart

scott. he passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age 49. to the game, the colts handled the bengals in impressive fashion. daniel herron runs in it from short yardage to give indy a seven-nothing lead. in the third quarter andrew lock dante moncrief good for. and the colts advance to take on the broncos with a 26 to 10 win. crazy play in last night's materials-ravens game. check it out. ben roethlisberger throws it, an interception with his leg. look closely because the ball end up between his knees. how did he do that? ravens went on to beat the steelers 30 to 17. next up the patriots. flyers in trouble with the nhl fined an inand undisclosed amount of money for violating the league's collective bargaining agreement.

the team traveled to nashville on christmas break on december 26. to be in complaints with the rule they have to fly december 27th day of the game. the. last night flyers ended their eight game road trip by losing their fifth in a row in new jersey. jamir jagr became the oldest player in nhl history to record a hat trick. his three goals more than enough to get last past the flyers last night. flyers lose five to two. temple taking on central florida. owls riding a five game winning streak and temple looking good early on. will cummings with the three ball. he had 21 points on the day and that's going to put them up by eight but the big story bond, a huge day for him. he had a career high 21 points including 14 rebounds with a double double. owls improve to 11 and four, two and year in conference play with an 84-78 wip. coming up in the sports zone buy's ricky ricardo is
