in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". right now at 11:00 o'clock getting ready for a dose of winter weather and it could affect our morning commute. tonight's storm scan3 is march at work tracking the system that is coming our way. good evening i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. we have team three coverage tonight as we track our first real blast of winter and what it means for your morning routine. we start with meteorologist kathy orr. she has the latest track. kathy? well this storm is ahead of schedule. it will really move into the row john before day break through our western suburbs take a lock at storm scan3. you can see it moving fairly quickly here. the snow already through chicago heading toward cincinnati moving through ohio. it's next stop the delaware valley. so we're talking about a light accumulation of snow but the problem is the timing and that is why the national weather service has issued a winter weather advisory for southeastern pennsylvania, south jersey and the entire state of delaware.

it goes into effect at 5am and continues into tomorrow afternoon. look at these temperatures. pretty cold. 23 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 19. the poconos at 10. into the north and west where we have the snow even colder chicago at six. dismiss at 11. very cold temperatures you can make a good deal of snow with out a lot of moisture. right now it feels like 13 in philadelphia. and reading it feels like nine. when we look at all of our computer models very latest coming into the weather center suggesting about one to 2-inches of snow so not a lot of snow. but the timing will be key. so right in time for your morning commute, that light snow will be accumulateing with some moderate banding so visibility will be reduced at times and the travel will be slow area roads will be slick because that snow is going to stick immediately to because of these cold temperatures. we have bitter cold that is coming. we also have wind chills that will go below zero in the seven day, and more snow will be on the way as well. i'm talk about this later in the broadcast. but first things first. it is going to be a slow morning

not be coming in fast and furious, but nonetheless penndot is taking it seriously. city and state brainers have been treating roads since sunday night. 200 plows and salters are waiting for those first flakes to fall. the first shift deploys at midnight for the morning snow. >> this clipper storm is not expected to accumulate much snow they're predicting from an inch to 2-inches. we're concerned about the timing ofingof the storm it may occur during the morning rush hour report roar penndot used 8,000 tons of salt compared to 44,000 tons by this same time last year. the king of prussia traffic control center is quite now but come morning more than 300 cameras will have an eye on state roads looking for disable vehicles. in camden county, new jersey, a code blue has been issued with temperatures falling below freezing and only expected to drop further. >> all our shelters are open all night long. they keep an eye out and make

"eyewitness news" in the 100 block of normal 28th street there. no reports of any injuries. but we do know the red cross is helping those displaced by the fire. the cause of the fire is under investigation. accused pennsylvania state trooper killer eric frein is ordered held for trial at a preliminary hearing. this is new video of eric frein today. at today's hearing prosecutors brought forward eyewitnesses. they also played surveillance video from inside the blooming grove barrack september twenty threeth the night corporal brian dixon was kill. trooper alex douglas was injured and is recovering. >> a long road to recovery. he has some surgeries ahead of him but he's very upbeat and hopes one day to be able to return to work with the state

police. >> free will be arraigned sometime at the end of the month month. >> jury selection underway in the boston more than bombing suspect tsarnaev. in inside a courthouse in boston he sat with his lawyers as they began the process of picking jurorsjurors from a pool of 12 people. tsarnaev showed up with shaggy hair an scruffy beard. jury will decide whether he carried out the dead deadly 2013 bombings with his brother and if so whether he should be put to death. >> the things that's going to happen in this juries selection process is that you have to do what the lawyers call death qualify a jury. what that means is, even if you are against the death penalty but you say this, you know, i can follow the law. >> opening statements in the trial are set for next month. philadelphia police have now charged the alleged trigger man in the murder of a limousine driver. alonso dill guard behind bars tonight. police believe that he and two

others from yeadon plotted to rob a driver and randomly chose miguel rodriguez rah miriest. he was shot during a confrontation in his car and died saturday night in cobbs creek. we learned tonight to a second person who was questioned by police was released without being charged. and police have reportedly identified a third man they are looking for him now. the victim's fiance' saw it all happen. >> one of the males pull out gun and pointed it at this fee an san and stated to the driver, give me everything or i will kill her. as the gunman exit the the vehicle, he shot him one time in the head killing him instantly. >> the victim's fiance' was not injured. well new at 11:00 o'clock tonight northwest detectives need your help as they look for the three men who robbed a grocery store at gun point. this is surveillance video showing the three entering poppy's on the 6100 block of

bank ton street before sunday before christmas. two of those men were arm. you can see one became so impatient he push the clerk and jumped behind the register to take matter noose his own hands. those men got away with about $2,300. a couple of cell phones and lots of cigarettes. >> former philadelphia sportscaster don tollefson reject as last minute deal triggering the start of jury selection in bucks county. that deal included a two to 20 year sentence with a treatment program that would have reduced his time in jail. he's accused of of stealing $340,000 tennesseeed for sports trips benefiting charities. two alternate jurors were chosen today. he does not regret his decision to withdraw his guilty plea last month. >> there's no bad guys in this case. the facts are the facts. what this really is, is a story of how you reach for the stars and fell to the earth. >> i just look forward to the opportunity as mr. goldman said

to tell my side of the story. >> the trial will begin when jury selection is completed tomorrow. tollefson a recover recovery drug and alcohol addict spent most of last year under house arrest in treatment programs in north philadelphia. from housewife to the big house theresa guidice is facing a grim reality. before sunrise she traveled about 80 miles from her multi million home in north jersey to a correct al institution in danbury connecticut she pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud and sentence to do 15 months in federal prison with good behavior she can get out under a year. she'll have to go to halfway house. her husband when serve his sentence when they returns home. >> many sports fans are ripping chris christie for his pub look support of widely did he say pied football team. yesterday the governor was in dallas at the cowboys game and celebrated the team's play off win within cowboys owner jerry jones in the owner's box. he of course did the same thing

>> breaking news out of new york. we have just learned 2nypd police officers have been shot in the bronx. one was hit in the arm. the other in the leg. we're toll this happened in the fordham second of the bronx and police are searching for a suspect. we'll give you any new information as we get. the sole survivor of the kentucky crash reportedly told officials she hoped her family was just sleeping. >> seven-year-old sailor gutzler climbed out of this plane. it was upside down and on fire at the time. she escaped through a hole that was just 12-inches wide. the crash killed her parents her sister and her cousin. sailor then walk for half hour in near freezing temperatures through the woods at night and knocked on the first door she found. >> seen a bloody little girl with tears in her eyes.

her lips trembling. she told me her parents were dead. and i asked her how she knew that. she said she tried to wake them up and they would wake up. >> you see a lot of things in 20 years of law enforcement but i've never seen anything like this. she was the one that gave everybody hope. >> the funeral for sailor's 14-year-old cousin searer wilder is tomorrow. her parents, marty and kimberly and her nine year old sister piper will be laid to rest on friday. sailor did tell officials her father had been having trouble maintain altitude. well new developments to night in the crash of air asia flight 8501. crews using sonar have now found a large objects on the ocean floor. they believe one of them could be the aircraft's tail which is where the black boxes are located. they could hold valuable information about the cause of that crash that happened back on december 28th. we know 162 people were on board

that jet. so far the bodies of 37 victims have been recovered. two members of the u.s. ski team were killed in avalanche while practicing near the team's training base in austria. they were descending from the top of a mountain when this happened. four of their teammates were able to escape unhurt. the victims have been identified as 19-year-old bryce as dell of utah and ronnie burr lack of new hampshire. officials say an avalanche alert had been declared in that area following heavy snow and mild temperatures. the flu is hitting our area and the nation very hard right now much the cdc now reporting widespread activity in nearly all 50 states. here in our area delaware has 632 confirmed cases. there have been four deaths in the first state. in pa there are more than 10,000 cases with 591 of those in montgomery county. new jersey does not release numbers but says flu activity there is high. the flu epidemic is blamed in part on this year's vaccine.

officials say it may be only about 30% effective and that's because the main strain of flu that's circulating h3n2 is not a good match for the vaccine. >> average year we see an effectiveness of the vaccine somewhere 50 to 70%. and so it might be a little lower this year but even if it's lower it may provide some protection especially in important high risk people. >> the virus tends to cause more severe illness he is especial until young children and the elderly. flu related hospitalizations for the elderly elderly are more than double what they were this time last year. okay. whose is ready for a hill bit of snow. >> it's op its way. >> i guess we are. >> we better be. kathy orr is tracking the latest on this storm. what do you know. >> we're watching clipper move on eastward tomorrow morning we'll be seeing light snow falling. the cold is already here "eyewitness weather" watchers are saying, yes we can even feel the snow moving our way.

let's start off in delaware where temperatures are in the mid 20s. delores is reporting a light wind in newark. the pressure is rising temporarily but that will be falling as our storm approaches. she says it's very cloudy and very cold. temperatures in south jersey in the 20s as well. it is 25 degrees in vincentown according to doug. as we go farther to the north we're looking at 22 degrees in willow grove. and the wind is rather light. that wind is going to be picking up over the next couple of days. if you would like track the storm with us you can be an "eyewitness weather" watcher and featured in our newscast. go to cbsphilly.com/watchers. outside we're looking at cold and we're looking at snow making at jack frost big boulder with these temperatures you can make a lot of snow because it is so cold. we won't have to be making it tomorrow. mother nature will provide. on storm scan3 you can see the snow already in chicago, through parts of illinois, to the south into cincinnati and moving quickly toward the east a little

bit ahead of schedule. that means through the lehigh valley see the snow oasics am. by the time it makes no philadelphia it will be closer to 8am. so watch this clipper swiftly move toward the east. we see the warm front ahead of it and arctic front behind it. that will reinforce cold air the coldest air we've seen since last january. this is serious cold coming our way. so here's our timeline between six and 8am the know arrives from west to east n south jersey eight 8:30 will be the time you'll be seeing it start. it will stick right i was because it will be so cold. temperatures in the teens and 20s. between 8:00 a.m. and 11 a.m. steady snow. we could seeing banding occurring up to twenty fours of snow expected. after 11:00 scattered snow showers will be developing. so with a clipper you generally see light accumulations of snow because you have a lot of land mass not a lot of moisture to draw from. when we look at those future snow amounts between one and 2-inches of snow expected down

the shore half an inch to an inch expected at this point. after that, the arctic front reinforces the cold air. look how low the jet stream drops talk bowing temperatures later this week 15 to 20 degrees below average and wind chills believe it or not will go below zero even in the philadelphia area by the end of the week. so we're talking about wind chills in the 20s tomorrow. single numbers by wednesday. and even we're looking at wind chills that will go below zero by very early thursday morning. so it is going to be very changeable across the region. overnight the low 19. during the day tomorrow, mainly morning snow and some flurries in the afternoon. the high 29 and on the exclusive "eyewitness weather" seven day forecast wednesday 28. thursday morning nine. that's when wind chills will go below zero. thursday 22 for the high. friday in the 30s. and then better by the weekend. but theirs are the best we'll see for the most par. >> yeah. compared to nine. that will be all right. >> kathy thanks. >> okay.
