backyard. this shows salt spreaders in action on route 07 in cherry hill camden county. all and all this snowfall not too bad but what comes next could cause serious problems. a bitter blast of cold air, dangerously winder conditions are now on the way. good evening i'm he jessica dean. i'm gist may. we have live team three coverage of the bitter blast, we will begin with meteorologist cat i orr who is in the cbs-3 weather center now, the kathy. >> the the cold is here and wind is coming and the combination will be dangerous over the next couple of days. on storm scan three you can see this snow, exiting, moving off shore a few flurries possible this evening, that is just about it. but the next story will be the cold. you can see this snow not a lot but enough to make slow driving conditions, and also some scattered accidents across the delaware valley. in nottingham looking at 1.8. vineland over an inch, the same in dover and in exton nearly an inch in perk so .8 of an inch of snow. now we're talking about the cold temperatures n allentown only 15. thirteen in the poconos. eighteen in reading.

in philadelphia still hanging on to 24 but more cold to the northwest and this is what is moving our way. so, we will talk about the snow, that pretty picture from our eyewitness photo, lauren send from bucks county. then we will talk about the cold. take a look at these future feels like readings. tomorrow morning will feel like 15 in philadelphia two in the poconos. but by tomorrow evening a much different story. wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m., poconos will feel like 21 below and philadelphia one below and even by thursday morning getting even worse, philadelphia feeling like zero allentown six below, poconos at 14 below. it is not just cold. it is wind that will make the weather dangerous. but for now we're talking about icy conditions, in the immediate future. meteorologist kate bilo live from the mobile weather lab in philadelphia's over brooks section, hi kate. >> reporter: hi, kathy. i'm calling it right now a double glove kind of night one paris not cutting it. if you don't have the

"eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live in norristown where a shelter is expecting a pretty busy night, david? >> reporter: chris, snow stopped in norristown about an hour ago, now the concern those cold temperatures we have been talking about for the last few minutes. crews at the salvation army here in norristown, they are busy getting ready to accept people all hours of the night. montgomery county is under a code blue and that means anytime wind chill or air temperature is 20 or below. montgomery county officials are warning people to stay inside, unless it is

absolutely necessary to be outside. snow continued to fall for the majority of the day but the the big concern is the cold temperatures. >> i love the snow. last year was fantastic. >> reporter: we spoke to bill hen describing son who prefers the cold blast. he said last years winter is a positive memory, others not so much. >> i'm a nervous wreck but everyone here seems to know what they are doing. just trying to take it slow. >> reporter: county official says homeless population is in a dangerous situation with the temperature drop. that is why they are sending people to places like the salvation army. >> my heart does go out to anyone dealing with this type of a situation. >> reporter: captain curtis says his crew will set up extra cots for people who need help. >> in conditions like this it makes it even more difficult. >> reporter: salvation army just one of several homeless shelters in the area. the last time montgomery county was under a code blue just last week december 30th,

strongly felt throughout the department he/for more than 20 years. >> fit happened in this department he was involved in it. >> and to try to bridge that gap it has been just a lot. >> reporter: hunter's wife has also had a lot the to deal with including losing health insurance. >> she had went to the doctor's office with her son and found out that there was in health insurance. >> reporter: on november 15th lieutenant hunter died at home from cardiac arrest after completing a shift. officials say because of the 38 year-old died within 24 hours after a shift, his death is considered active duty rather than in the line of duty. that means his family lost his health insurance and has to pay $1,700 a month for cobra coverage. the lawmakers will consider a bill to allow families of the fire fighters, police and emt's who died on active cute toy keep their insurance. >> they shall have a component of their health insurance that allows for continuation of coverage in active duty deaths for six months to allow folks to have sometime to transition to get their own health

insurance. >> reporter: even though this measure would not help lieutenant hunter's family it could make a big difference for his co-workers and first responders all throughout new jersey. >> if i pass i will in the see a benefit from it but i want to make sure my kids are taken care of more than anything. >> reporter: first responders hope the bill makes it to and through committee as quickly as possible. in cinnaminson, cleve bryan cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well, tonight we are hearing from one of the victims from a serious attack in center city philadelphia police need your help in catching the suspect. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson tells us that the victim is speaking out and was just released from the hospital. >> i mean i could get angry but at the end of the daze i still have my life. >> reporter: most incredible thing about the battle samuel sees era now faces may be his outlook. >> how blessed i am that i still have my life. >> reporter: the 34 year-old is just of the house and he spent a week thereafter a savage beating that nearly cost him his life. >> i really don't remember that night unfortunately. >> reporter: he may not remember it but he watches it every day this week police

released surveillance video of sammy in the early hours of, december 27th. sierra is walking from his job as a doorman at tabu bar. he and a manager walking north on 12th street near chestnut. in the video you can see a group of five, men and women approach, word are exchanged before two men break away from the group and start pummeling sierra. police believe that the two men were looking for trouble. >> it is just unfortunate that we have individuals like these two gentlemen that were in this group walking around looking to assault someone. pretty painful. >> reporter: back home sierra is recovering from an attack that caused internal bleeding from the brain memory loss and high risk foresee showers. >> the the there is still want to see me to do ekg's and other tests. >> reporter: yet ask about his attackers and he will tell about mercy. >> would i hope they would be bet's adults but it is still up to them to make those decisions for themselves. >> we will put that oil is lance video on our web site at cbs philly.com. if you know anything about the two suspects involved in the

after an active shooter was reported at a west texas military hospital. fort bliss spokesperson gill payus says active shooter has been confirmed at william beaumont army medical center in el paso. he has no information on casualties or arrest however the entire hospital complex and its adjacent veterans hospital have been placed on lock town. again that is william will beaumont army medical center in el paso. we will bring you details as we get them. border and skiers out there with a inch of snow. snow guns going as well with these cold temperatures n the poconos it is 12. great snow making weather 236789 in philadelphia trenton 19. wilmington is 22a a a lot more cold to the north and west of us. international falls six below. 4b low rather. six in minneapolis. ten in milwaukee. fourteen in sue city. these are the the temperatures and add the wind that is whipping and it feels like 28 below at international falls. minneapolis 14 below. bismarck 18 below. so this cold and also a piece of those brutal wind will be moving our way. wind chill alerts all the way from the northern plains stretching toward new england and we will see a wind chill advisory go in effect for poconos by tomorrow evening. we're talking about wind chills between 15 and 20 below in the poconos. now, for your wednesday temperatures will be in the 20's, big difference will be the wind, gusting to 40 miles an hour making it feel like the teens. thursday it is a brutal day

with temperatures barely making it in the 20's. wind still gusting to 30, 35 miles an hour and wind chills going below zero, thursday morning. then we will rebound somewhat as high pressure drifts to the south, temperatures in the 30's but still feeling some wind on friday. the core of the cold air will be right over us, early thursday morning and then begin to retreat. wind chills thursday morning once again 15 to 20 below. in the poconos with that advisory. ten to 15 below. even if ale five to ten below. the shore below zero. also through southern delaware. we are talking about the coldest we have seen since last winter. overnight low of 20 degrees. the win kicks in tomorrow. high of 26. we have scattered snow showers and on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven day forecast, the wind finally dies down over the weekend and temperatures will be a little bit more comfortable. what about those area roads. meteorologist kate bilo is out there, surveying what is going on with our first widespread snow, she is in the lab, and in the philadelphia a area

around overbrook. hi kate. >> hi kathy. well yeah totally depend where you are, we have seen residential streets completely snow cover like right here in the overbrook farms section of the city. take you outside on the cbs-3 mobil weather lab. car passing us. you you can see the the road are just completely snow covered, completely pack down, and starting to ice over as well. temperatures here in the middle 20's and that is leading to some problems as we go through the overnight hours. coming up we will go to city avenue and we will see that make it turn but in the meantime look at what to expect out and about tonight on the roads. we will have lingering flurries, that is about it as far as snowfall is concern. we don't expect any additional accumulation but road will freeze temperatures in the 20's that means any treated road they could have black ice. snow covered will be just ice overtop of the snow use plenty of caution out there if you are traveling across the area tonight. we will continue to bring you updates on the cold as they
