philadelphia, and the surrounding area, enduring a bitter blast of winter this morning, with temperatures, well below freezing. prompting concerns about the safety of many people in the area. the highways are clear, but some of the back road around our area are a different story. our mobile weather lobbies giving you a live look at the streets right now. vittoria has latest on the driving conditions in just a few minutes. today is wednesday january 7th, hi, good morning i'm ukee washington. i'm's quarter von tiehl. here are some of the stories we are following today. large bucks county home gutted guy fire. fire fighters said they had more to battle than just the the flames to save what is left of that house. an eight year old would i is in the hospital this morning after he was hit and

a code blue advisory remains in effect. nicole, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that code blue went into effect monday night and will continue through 7:00 o'clock this morning. i can tell you it feels every bit as cold out here this morning. of course that warning issued when it dips below 20 degrees in wind chill or in temperatures. obviously your best bet to stay warm on a day like today is to not come outside but for a lot of us that is not possible. you just want to dress in layers. you want your hat keep your hand covered obviously, got wool socks put them on. you cannot tell will but i'm following every bit of that advice here this morning. the most of the folks i spoke to at the wawa in pennsauken gree it is all a crest nothing layers. >> i have tights underneath my sweats, two jackets. >> minority face is my good to. i usually wear scarves.

>> i'm a winter person. i enjoyed the cold but i still layer up to keep from getting a cold. >> reporter: of course, the the cold air isn't the only thing left behind on this clipper system. as you can tell in our video and katie mentioned just a few minutes ago we have anywhere around 2 inches of snow depending on where you live and that is definitely going to still be a problem out the here this morning in the streets closest to your home those back roads will be slick and maybe even snow covered at this point. if you come back out here live though as we mentioned we're in pennsauken camden county right here near route 38 and 70. the those main road are clear this morning but definitely proceed with caution definitely take it slow and give yourself extra time and extra room to get out and about, where you are going. that is very latest from camden county nicole brewer, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". 4:33. let get back to katie and hear more about this bitter blast.

>> it is on the way. it has already begun out there wind no, sir the not begun to kick in yet. as we heard from nicole is is already cold outside and it will only get colder from here. sky cam three is looking g it is quiet at this point. the snow is long gone but you know we still have what has been left on the road surface here. so fit was a road especially was untreated it will absolutely have slick end over that much more here this morning. watch for slick spot. definitely they are out there vittoria will be talking about it all morning. storm scan three this is quieting down. it is cloudy but when we zoom it out, you can see lake effect snow kicking in here. we will see some sun but some of this might be win driven enough that it survives for a change and it crosses over allegheny and it will will see at least a few flurries in a few spots but i can see a straight up snow shower. it will not accumulate but it will add to the wintry atmosphere f there was any doubt winter is here. wind chills this week at best

in the teens for a good chunk of the next five days, thursday's brutal stuff here. dangerously cold air, especially on thursday. the as a result wind chills are set the to take effect this evening across the board. here's where we stan right now, right new because wind isn't that strong you only to have knock five or seven or 8 degrees off for feels like value but that will change. the it will again feel as the the day progresses and we get you in the mid 20's here in better than lower teens across most of the board. as we mentionedded the wind will kick in the cold is obviously here. es specially further north and west you go more likely you for perhaps see a snow shower or flurry. vittoria, good morning. >> good morning, everyone. as nicole was saying traveling in new jersey she was right around 38, in haddonfield, if you are traveling around that area we are not seeing too many problems. i would say problems that will be occurring this morning are not so much on the major aors. not only in new jersey and pennsylvania, but with the exception of the black ice.

and slick spots but also it the is going to be in the residential neighborhood. i'm trying to get that out. there we go. traveling throughout the neighborhood will be the biggest problem. i had problems, heading out of my neighborhood as well, it is pretty thick out there. so if you are traveling in and around the neighborhood just give yourself more time. majors are pretty clear, with the exception of the little bit of that slick spot. this is i-95 moving ahead. now we will will go to the 42 freeway. this is 42 around creek road. only a few vehicles out there, not too much to worry about on the majors in regard to speed sensors. it will be in these neighborhood just to be careful of, mass transit not awful, do watch out for delays at the airport, ukee. vittoria, thank you. developing right now major break in the search for missing air asia flight 8501. we just got this video into our news room. indonesia search and rescue chief says divers and unman water vehicles spotted a

section of the plane's tail in the java sea. the find is very important one, for investigators since the plane's voice and data recorders are stored there. so far, 40 bodies have been recovered since the plane went down december 28th with 162 people on board. 4:37. the winter chill and lack of water supply complicates fighting a a fire in bucks county. >> reporter: fire fighters got the the call to the large two story home on curly mill road in new britain township last night. everybody got out okay but the home is a a total loss. fire fighters had two problems a lack of hydrants in the area and below freezing temperatures. >> the hose lines freezing up, and making it hard on the guys working on the fire. the the big thing too there is a lack of water supply here. we had to truck in water. that made it difficult to fight the fire. >> bucks county fire marshall is still trying to determine how that fire started. a driver is facing charges

this morning after police say he hit a child getting off a school bus in lakewood ocean county. police say michael adler disregarded the flashing stop sign while an eight year-old crossed at clifton avenue and kerry street. adler stopped and boy was freed from under the car. emergency crushed rushed him to the hospital where he is recovering from serious injuries. adler has been charged with reckless driving and illegally passing a school bus. search continues this morning in philadelphia for a suspect in the home invasion in mantua. officers say a man walk in the home in the 3900 block of brown street last night around 7:30, piss top whipped a woman and then took off. the victim was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. if you have any information you are asked to call police. we are hearing from one of the victims seriously injured during an attack in center city. samuel sierra spent a week in the hospital after a savage beating at 12th and chestnut that nearly cost him his life. surveillance video from december 27th shows sierra

soft. a veterans clinic in el paso texas is closed as investigators try to get to the bottom of the deadly shooting. officials locked down fort bliss for about an hour yesterday until that was cleared. there were reports that the gunman killed a doctor and then turn the gun on himself. federal investigators will interview hundreds of witnesses as they searched for a motive in this case. with the u.s. congress back to work senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is trying to make the keystone xl pipeline his first piece of legislation. >> but the white house says president obama will sleet the owe a bill authorizing its construction should one reach his desk. with control of the both chambers the g.o.p. can push measure through congress but they do not have votes to override a veto. obama administration say state department still has to approve the the project. supporters of the keystone says it will create jobs.

idaho man says he owes his life to five of his friends who found him stranded in the montana wilderness after a snowmobiling accident. barry sadler went out riding on sat the day and got stuck in 7 feet of snow, for more than 30 hours. search teams were outlooking for him the entire time and it was his friend who finally spotted him a after following his tracks for more than 3 miles. sadler said he suffered frostbite but is otherwise, okays. right now 4:43. yesterday was the snow to day is just the cold. >> that is going to affect everybody, you know, you could have stayed inside yesterday and not had to deal with the snow if you were able to but this will be the second you walk outside the door, you will feel it. >> you do. >> the wind is not even starting yet. so this will be rough stuff. >> we got 30 or 40 miles an hour. >> easily. >> these wind gusts will crank because it is a a clipper system.

in the wake we get these persistent north west wind. a lot of times in the wake of one clipper it will be one day and then it is over. problem is we get these additional pulses of energy that come through that don't bring more precipitation but they reenforce what is now out there. that is the cold. you think we're alone here? um-hmm. check this out, wind chill advisories of some kind, watches, warnings basically span half the country. i mean this is cold that is affecting millions of people. i thing is, it is january. we do see this this time of the year. it is just first time that arctic chill has really sunken in and look at how far south it extend all the way into northern florida. that is rough stuff. thankfully citrus crops in central florida won't be too affect by this but everybody else will be. it will be the the kind of cold that is dangerous to be out in for very long especially as we go into tonight when we see wind chill watch advisories take effect here locally. it will be this evening. for now there is still a wind.

4:53. let's get traffic and weather together. good morning vittoria. >> good morning, everyone. traveling out and about you will notice that you have to watch out for slick spots and that residual snow on the ground. we're out and about in bucks county traveling on the northbound side of route one in the mobile weather lab making your way toward the area of bensalem. a approaching this stretch we are not too far from street road and not too far from the area of the neshaminy mall. the roads look pretty clear. look at the the reflection of the light here. the that is taking up the slickness thaw still have. so traveling out and about specifically on the majors, watch out for black ice and slick spots. however, traveling in the neighborhood you do want to watch out for that thick crunch of snow that you'll have when you exit the driveway. area bridges, they are calling for speed restrictions to 35 miles an hour just because bridges are slick.
