>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". now at 11:00 o'clock running from the cold. but the bite from this bitter blast may be easing up a bit. good evening, i'm chris may. i'm jessica dean. we have have been in the deep freeze for the past few days and nights and before we get a brief break from the cold,

some of us may be seeing some snow. meteorologist kathy orr gets us started life outside on the cbs3 sky deck. kathy. >> there's good news. temperatures will be slowly rising overnight. but that's associated with our next disturbance which could bring a few snow showers come tomorrow morning right in time for the commute. on storm scan3 you can see we do have temperatures that are pretty cold out there. skies partly cloudy right now. it is 18 in physical. on the rise from last hour. in allentown it's 15. in the poconos it is nip not much of a win right now those winds are southerly between about five and 15 miles an hour. that south wind will be warming us up but the winds still makes it feel colder. eight in philadelphia. six below in the poconos. and allentown it feels like it is only five. on storm scan3 you can see the snow through pittsburgh and erie. this is going to be lifting toward the north and the east but may brush by the delaware valley on its way to the north. snow showers falling there. may be even a few in philadelphia as we begin the

restaurant at the peddler's village shopping center in lahaska, bucks county. chopper three over that scene at earl's. the fire reportedly started in the kitchen. we've got some photos provided to us by police of this fire tonight. they tell us no one was injured. and the cause of the fire is under investigation. we did talk tonight with a representative from peddler's village who toll us they're evaluating the damage tomorrow and trying to figure out when that restaurant can reopen. well president obama says that he wants to make community college free. he pre viewed an initiative he'll unveil tomorrow and video taped message from air force one. >> put simply what i'd like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everybody whose willing to work for it. >> the president will unveil the proposal and how he hopes to pay for it in tennessee tomorrow. we know the plan would cover part time and full-time students who maintain 2.5gpa. it would only apply to schools

that off credit toward a four-year degree or occupational training programs that award degrees in high demand fields. not surprisingly some students we spoke with think it's a good idea. >> i think it's a good idea. i'm a community college student and it would be awesome. i'm currently paying for my tuition out of pock. it would be awesome to not have to worry about my tuition. that would he will raul be awesome. >> were do you think about the idea? connect with us and let us know. share your thoughts on facebook or on twitter. we are at cbs philly. there are new developments tonight in the cane investigation. pennsylvania attorney general's kathleen cane's attorney is reactioning that publish claims she canning on the wrong side of the law. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is in the cbs3 sat center. todd? >> reporter: chris, so the question tonight right now is, did the state top law enforcement official break the law? >> the philadelphia inquirer reports a grand jury is recommending pennsylvania attorney general kathleen ca

inform e face criminal charges. that grand jury investigate investigating allegations cane leaked secret information from a 2009 grand jury case to the philadelphia daily news. when contacted the attorney general' office referred us to her personal attorney lenny davis he released a statement which says in part "i cannot confirm the posted reports in the philadelphia inquirer of any presentment issue by the grand jury regarding attorney general kathleen cane. if such is the case, then it is my underring... that it is up to the montgomery county district attorney to make a judgment as to whether to proceed against the attorney general. ". >> this is more or less a historic even. >> reporter: former prosecutor george perry says montgomery county attorney would review the grand jury recommendations. a decision on whether or not to pursue charges could take weeks. when contacted ferman had no comment. according to the inquirer report the grand jury recommended charges of perjury and contempt

of court. >> which indicates to me that when she appeared before the grand jury and testified the grand jury determined that she had not told the truth. so that's a very very troubling charge if true. >> reporter: in a statement her attorney davis went on to say "the attorney general has done nothing wrong or illegal and to my knowledge there's no credible evidence that she has. she told the truth to the grand jury at all times. i hope the district attorney will reach the same conclusion " ". and cane's attorney is questioning if the leak to the inquirer about the alleged grand jury decision violates the state's grand jury secrecy law. roaring live tonight in the sat center todd equip nope cbs3 witness news. >> todd, thank you very much. new at 11:00 o'clock tonight, a brigantine, new jersey police officer is indicted on child sexual assault charges. the atlantic county prosecutor's office says that ralph ferrara provided 16 year old with alcohol before committing the

alleged acts in both 2012 and 2013. perrara was first arrested last may and released on one hadn't dread thousand dollars bail. >> new developments in the paris terror attack that killed 12 people at a newspaper office. the lights at the eiffel tower were turned off for five minutes. there was a moment of silence observed throughout the city. heavily armed search teams converged on villages in northeast france after two men resembling the terror suspects robbed a gas station. a philadelphia police officer is out of the hospital tonight after investigators say a suspect ran over his leg during a traffic stop. police say dominic fallons was behind the wheel of the car that struck the officer at 32nd and susquehanna in strawberry morning today. the officer approached fallons car after it was determined the license plate and the registration did not match. investigators say fallons took off and that's when he struck the officer. fallons was arrested near that

scene this afternoon. officials say it could take days to locate the body of a worker who is presumed dead tonight in the silo collapse in bucks county. it happened at riverside settlement. that's in the riverside industrial complex in bristol township on north radcliffe road. family members say that the victim is 48-year-old tony gabbro yell. tony was working in trailer near that silo when it collapsed around midnight. the discover row was made when police went on routine patrol. >> hundreds of thousands of pounds of dry concrete rushed down like an avalanche and bury everything. there's so much debris. thousands of pounds of steal um thousands of pounds of dry cement over 10-foot high. >> the occupation safety and hell administration is investigating that facility. tonight a chance to remember the life of shane montgomery. the body of the west chester university student who disappeared early thanksgiving morning was found saturday in the sku confidential river. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown was at tonight's

wake in manayunk. >> reporter: steady stream of somber faces filed into saint john the baptist church in manayunk. mourning the loss of shane montgomery. the viewing brought family friends, even strangers together to offer comfort to the montgomery family. >> it's heart wrenching nobody should go something like that. >> reporter: 21-year-old shane montgomery disappeared early thanksgiving morning after leaving kildare's pub on main street in manayunk. the west chester university student was later captured on surveillance video in a parking lot near the schuylkill river before vanishing. after a tireless search 36 days after his disappearance divers pulled shane's body from the schuylkill river bringing some close shower to a family in agony. >> we just all thought we should give our support. >> reporter: community members who rallied behind the montgomery family during the search found that you are way to shane's viewing hoping to i wasn't solace during inconsolable times. >> they're in our thoughts and our prayers and we pray for your family and for comfort and for

healing and you'll be in our prayers for many years to come because no parent should ever have to bury their child. >> reporter: in manayunk, natasha brown cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> new at 11:00 o'clock tonight the fda green lights a new quick and easy flu test with just the swab inside your nose. the doctor can now determine if you have the flu in just minutes. some say it's not only faster, it's also more accurate. negative results don't rule out the flu infection though. experts say the test is intended to aid in a flu diagnosis and get infected patients on anti viral medications sooner. doctors around the philadelphia region say there's been a sporadic shortages of new drug tamiflu. it can shorten and severity of the flu which is now an epidemic and especially bad in some parts of our area. cbs says it's experienced some intermittent shortages of liquid form of tamiflu. doctors are now being urged to only write tamiflu prescriptions

for high-risk patients. >> a new report by the former director of the fbi says the nfl and commissioner roger goodell had not seen the video of ray rice punching his fiance' in an elevator before suspending him. that report by robert mueller found quote the nfl should have done more with the information it had. mule there are says there was no evidence the league received the video before it was published online in september. a judge in montgomery county orders donna creep to be held for child on or san charges. police say she set the home of police detective ernie morris on fire in lower pottsgrove township last month while he and his family were on vacation. they are neighbors on commons drive. court documents alleged she was angry after the recent arrest of her son. her attorney says she's innocent. >> it's unsupported. she has no criminal record. lighting a house on fire is a danger to everyone in the community. not just the victims in this case but to anybody else as well

well. >> she's now being held on $1 million bail. well tonight marks the four-year anniversary of the shooting in tucson that severely wounded the former arizona congresswoman gabrielle giffords moment of silence was hell on the floor of the house representatives to remember the victims of that aing at a. president obama also met with giffords and her husband mark kelly while he was in phoenix to speak on housing. giffords has become a public advocate for gun control. >> christina taylor green. (bell tolls). >> christina taylor green the granddaughter of former phillies manager dallas green was among the six who were killed in that attack. today in tucson they mark the anniversary with this bell ringing ceremony. giffords was meeting with constituents at a shopping center when a gunman opened fire fire. new information in a police shooting that sparked outrage. next what that is new video shows in the moments after police shot and killed a 12-year-old boy. kathy? >> our next disturbance brings a chance of snow for some come

♪ caught on camera in new mexico a bus collides with a pickup truck. police say that that -- wow pick up ran a red light and the impact sent the bus kareening into a concrete structure. you see what happened to the driver there. he almost went right out the front window. both the driver of the pickup and the bus driver were hospitalized. newly released video tape from the deadly shooting of a cleveland boy by police there is sparking some anger tonight. you may have seen this video from the november 22nd

incident in which a definitely-year-old tamir rice was fatally shot by police officer who thought the toy gun the boy was holding was real. well in this newly released video as the boy lies bleeding on the ground you can see rice's 14-year-old sister arrive at the scene. she was repeatedly tackled by those officers eventually she was handcuffed and put inside the cruiser. the video shows the officers did not give medical aid to that boy. rice's family wants those officers to be criminally charge charged. connecticut supreme court ruled today that a 17 year old whose being treated for hodgkin's lymphoma must continue to receive chemotherapy. the teenaged girl known as cassandra c even though she's a minor she's mature enough to make her own decisions. but the state argued the fact that she ran away from home last month proved she's not mature. the court has agreed with the state. health officials in california have issued a health alert for a measles outbreak

that appears to have originated originated at disney land theme park. public park officials in california and utah utah have confirmed nine cases. there are three more suspected cases in california. hell officials believe an infected person unknowingly spread that disease throughout the park tour the end of december. the florida developer whose interested in buying the former revel cass soon know in atlantic city has some big plans for that property. glenn straub wants to open a water park there. he's also planning a high speed ferry service between the revel and new york city. it's unclear if the property will continue to have gameing. revel closed september 2nd after a little more than two years of operation it never turned a profit. target is going small here in the big city. for years landlords have tried to coax the big box retailer to open one of its big box stores in center city. but it's been hard to find a

and then delaware checking in at 18 degrees. cold everywhere. john says winds out of the southwest at five. this is probably your lowest temperature john as temperatures will be rising overnight with southwest win. if you would like to be an "eyewitness weather" watcher we'd love you to join the team. go to cbsphilly.com/watchers. it is so cold that very easy to make snow and that's what's going on in the poconos. jack frost big bout looking good getting ready for good conditions over the course office this weekend and mother nature will drop about an inch of snow in the poconos tomorrow morning. on storm scan you can see it moving through western parts of the keystone state. heading toward the central part. towards state college and by early tomorrow morning some locations will be seeing some light snow. weak disturbance all this is lifting tour the northeast associated with a clipper. so we will be clipped by just a little bit of this across the region. now temperatures very cold. you can see in philadelphia 18. temperatures are on the rise. allentown 15. the pock notice right now sitting at nine. cold everywhere.

columbus at 19. nashville 28. 27 in birmingham. slowly, though, but surely we will see a nice rebound. so ahead of our neck system, we see a little bit of a break. southwesterly winds warming temperatures up into the 30s. in the wack of that front cold again for saturday. so you get a break friday. frigid saturday and then we rebound again nicely with high pressure settling in by sunday let's talk about the morning. clouds continue to thicken overnight tonight. by saturday 7am seeing snow in the poconos lehigh valley. moving possibly into eastern parts of bucks county trenton and mercer county and then toward new york and then this moves out skies will be clearing. and we'll be seeing a good deal of sunshine everywhere else just sees some partly cloudy skies giving way to sunny skies. computer mod dollars want to give us an inch in the pock notice lehigh valley possibly a dusting. the same in reading and some want to dip that snow down to philadelphia. it is a possibility but the air is very very dry. it will be hard to get anything to a come late in the city but it is a possibility early

tomorrow morning. so please be aware of that for the commute. then we'll be seeing the jet stream take another dip on saturday before rising again sunday into a more of a zonal west east flow giving us a little bit of break from the bitter cold. something to look forward to. after that, temperatures moderate somewhat. overnight, temperatures in the teens and on the rise. tomorrow 34 degrees. a chance of some morning snow showers especially north. otherwise windy with increasing sun. wind chills in the teens and the 20s. on the exclusive i were the weather seven day forecast we dip down saturday. back up sun today. the better half of the weekend our next system brings a chance of rain, ice or snow all temperature dependent so please pay attention tune in over the weekend. because monday could bring an icy mess. tuesday, 37. wednesday 35. thursday another rain/snow mix possible. be sure to wake up with the team tomorrow morning meteorologist katie fehlinger will track the weather and any changes. team starts at 4:30 on our sister station cbs3 -- i should

the union reportedly signed maurice adu to multi year contract. last season he played here on loan from stokes city of the english pre mower league. scored three goals and had two assists for the union and helped them reach the finals of the us open cup. new clippers owner steve ballmer national hit for his high energy. you see him busting a move. fergie performed her new single la center at the staples center he just had to let it go. he had to let it out. let it gyrate out. what a great job. we'll be right back.
