certainly tell you what we saw long before we arrived here with this geyser like scene behind us here off grant avenue and blue grass road. water spewing into the air at least 200 feet or so during the height of this water main break. it started about 7:00 o'clock this evening according to the philadelphia water department. they have been on the scene ever since. some four hours later now trying to find this break and contain this break. now, we were able to speak with a spokesperson from the water department a short time ago. he says this fight -- despite this seen it is not affecting the water supply of any of the homes ound this area. here's what he had to say to us just a few moments ago. >> pretty much we're getting shut off as quickly as we can. while in the process we're able to maintain water service for other customers if case we have to begin turning other valves off to fine the proper location for this valve. >> reporter: well, we know that they are anxiously trying

to get this break under control again, it is not affecting homes in this area and the water supply to homes in this area. but that may not be the case if this continues at this pace. again, we're four hours in to this water main break so they are quickly trying to get this under control. no water supply affected, and no other injuries or anything like that reported. so that is the very latest here live from northeast philadelphia tonight. natasha brown, cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> all right natasha thank you you. more breaking news now. chopper three over gloucester township where there is police activity at the family home of murder suspect kyle crosby. crosby is accused of killing his wife 26-year-old erika crippen. crippen's body has not been found. she was last seen two week ago after a night out with her husband. kyle crosby was arraigned on murder charges yesterday. >> developing news tonight a terror plot is foiled. a man from ohio is behind bars. authorities say he was on his way to washington, d.c., to bomb

the us capitol. diana rocco is following this for us tonight from the sat center she's got new information about the plot and the suspect. diana. >> reporter: chris investigators took down christopher lee cornell outside a gun store in cincinnati, ohio earlier today. they say he used an alias and he was planning to tack the us capitol with pipe bombs and guns. six months of planning and numerous conversations with an fbi inform nant led to the arrest of the 20-year-old christopher cornell wednesday. investigators say he used the alias. agents took him down after he purchased two semi automatic weapons and 600 rounds of ammo from cincinnati ohio gun store. >> when he came out the door, he would have come out who are halfway across here to the wreck the cars are parked. by that time the agents come across the parking lot and two agents were on top of him two or three. >> reporter: according to the federal complaint, his plan was to kill employees and officers workingworking in around the u.s.

capitol. he saw congress as his enemy. cornell first came to the fbi' as the tension past summer an informant notified authorities he wanted to carry out an tack in the u.s. in support of isis. message to the informant in august core documents quote cornell as saying we should just wage jihad under our own orders and plan attacks. dr. scott white from drexel university says it's something law enforcement needs to continually be aware of. the next five years we'll see a lot more of this. these people try to wright their own narrative. they try to be somebody important in society for which they're not. >> reporter: congressman pat meehan sits on the homeland security committee. >> we've got to be prudent. take steps to be proactive to deter any kind of potential activity. >> reporter: cornell was planning to travel to d.c. he was active on twitter posting statements and video in support of isis. his emotional father spoke on his behalf. >> he was like big kid. best friend is his cat mikey. his mom -- >> right now investigators say

all indications are that cornell was working alone. authorities say he has serious intents but he was never real threat. we're live in the sat center tonight. diana rock company cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> diana, much mr. to come and that. thank you very much. that threat came just hours after security head to be increased at the delaware air national guard base noor new castle. officials there tell "eyewitness news" that on both monday and tuesday several drivers stopped their cars to ask for directions at the base. in fact some cars pulled in and then backed up and left. whatever the reason, the activity was suspicious enough for officials to tighten security there. they stress there have been no specific threats. there is surveillance video of all those cars and officials say they are reviewing it. also today a suspicious package forced evacuation at joint base mcguire dix lakehurst in south jersey. the package was in the commisary exchange complex there. it was check out. the all clear was given after it

was deemed a harmless package. well for the latest on the capital plot and the security situation in our are a check out our website we are always on there at cbsphilly.com. new tonight a double shooting in ken sipping ton. oy witness news at lawrence and york streets. just before 8:00 p.m. a suspect or suspects opened fire. 23-year-old man were you shot multiple times. he's in stable condition at temple university. a 15 year old who was also shot was driven in a private car to episcopal hospital. the teen is also in stable condition tonight. police will be looking at surveillance video from nearby businesses as they investigate. after some bitter temperatures, we're in for a winter warmup of sorts as we head toward the end of the week. meteorologist kathy orr is live outside on the sky deck with a look what's ahead for us. kathy. >> unfortunately, not so warm tonight, though. we're looking still at mostly cloudy skies on our cbs3 sky deck but those skies will slowly clear and gradually we will be warping up.

right now across the row john temperatures have fallen through the 30s into the 20s much it's 24 in the poconos. 27 in allentown and reading. still holding on to 30 in philadelphia. on storm scan3 we have an area of hee pressure over the midwest that will slowly clear our skies out. but tomorrow morning with cold temperatures and some light winds it will still feel quite cold. here's a look at your wind chills. philadelphia feel like 19. five in the pock notice. 14 in reading. it will feel like 17 in wilmington and in trenton. so coming up well talk about the cold as well as when the sun will return for awhile. it will be slow to warm but we'll get there and then that will set us for weekend storm. more on that coming up with the seven day forecast when i join you inside. >> you then, kathy thank you classes are expected to resume at a northeast philadelphia school tomorrow after an unusual number of sick outs. this happen at the nazareth academy grade school on grant avenue. school had to be closed today so that cleaning crews could diss if he can their building.

school officials say that 55 of the school's 204 students were out sick on monday. another 75 were out sick on tuesday. the principal tells "eyewitness news" that many of the students had the same symptoms. >> fever headache, sneezing, coughing, seeing escalation one day to the next we decided we had to do it. >> students will be reminded to wash their hands often and to use hand sanitizer when they return to class. well, delaware teacher is facing charges to note for sexual relationship with a 17 year old female student. richard l. how well the second is from wyoming delaware. police say that the caesar rodney high schoolteacher had sex with that student several times between march and december of last year. police say that some of those incidents occurred on school grounds. we're told that how well has been suspended with pay. well new at 11:00 o'clock high school student is facing charges after police say he

distributed an inappropriate video of another student. this happened at perkiomen valley high school in perkiomen township, montgomery county. it is a 14 year old student. he reportedly sent a video of another 14 year old male student. the investigation continues. meantime a 13-year-old girl is charged after police say she distributed a sexually explicit video at bristol township middle school. authorities say that the girl was not involved in the making of that video. police confiscated at least tennessee cells as they investigateed this incident at franklin roosevelt middle school. the girl and her family are cooperating with authorities. new tonight the search is on for a burglary suspect who targeted a southwest philadelphia church. surveillance cameras captured the bandit on the move on the 1600 block of elmwood avenue. that man broke through a side window at straight gate church december 13th. he took a bunch of copper piping

and plumbing tools. that church is under renovation police tell us. >> the church is good for the community. they're renovating to bring people together and they got people taking advantage. >> police say the stolen copper is valued at more than $3,000. the suspect was driving a dark suv. if you can identify that suspect, you are asked to call police. now to another bold camera -- bold crime caught on camera. the search is on for a suspect who stole a philadelphia police bike at 21 south 12th street in washington square. investigators say the officer respond to do a call on the fourth floor and left his bike in the lobby last friday. minutes later the suspect entered the building he then walk off with that bike with the police equipment attached. a frightening sight caught on camera as a schoolbus bursts into flames. this happened this morning in toms river. a bus driver and an aide were driving along old freehold road and dugan lane when the driver smelled something burning. they pulled over. they exited the bus and that's

what it burst into flames. thankfully no students were on board and no one was injured. we've got update tonight on story that led to nationwide manhunt. police say that they have now arrested one of philadelphia's most wanted fugitives. tam minute lee was captured by us marshals at a motel in ash lapped virginia yesterday. police say that in august, lee kidnapped and stabbed three men and then dumped their bodies in the schuylkill river in fairmount park. those bodies were later found tied to waited canisters. another victim did survive. and is identified -- and managed to identify lee as the attacker. well new at 11:00 o'clock family and friends gather for an emotional memorial service. they are remembering a hero philadelphia police officer who was killed in the line of doubt. all this comes as her convicted killer is grant add reprieve on death row. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones has details now from mt. airy. >> reporter: she was the first

female philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty gunned down during a botched rob bro in the northeast in 1996. marking the ninth year of her murder the 43-year-old mother of two was remembered. her brother was among those in the crowd at mt. airy church of god and christ. >> i miss her and my whole family misses her dearly. >> wrist christopher rooney known as cool c was recently grantedgranted a stay of he can queuing after governor tom corbett sign his excution warrant in november. the 44-year-old was convicted and sentenced to death in 1997. her brother says he's a for giving person. but he still to this day clearly struggles with the emotions surrounding his sister's convicted cellar. >> it's tough but i'm supposed to forgive. i'm supposed to forgive. being a christian. have you forgiven him? >> yes. it's hard. it's very, very hard. >> reporter: she's remembered

lawsuits. on the cbs3 health watch tonight, a new study is out ton depression and a possible link to alzheimer's disease. this study has found that depression sleep problems and other behavior changes may show up in people who will later develop alzheimer's. those behavior changes happen even before people smart having problems with their memory. more than 5 million americans are currently a flicked with alzheimer's disease. new technology is giving stroke patients more options. the university of california irvine is testing the device call the music glove. the glove has sensors that track the user's hand movements. mimicking spencer and pinch grips. those movements are key to regaining neurological function in the hand. researchers found that patient who's used the glove made more progress than those who did traditional stroke exercises. well a philadelphia cab driver has certainly gotten what will be the tip of a lifetime. >> incredible.

gary is reporting a temperature of 27 degrees in warminster. and only a wind at about 1 mile an hour. we'll call that calm or he can treatmently light. on the jersey side, 30 degrees right now in south jersey. robert is saying, yes in clementon not much wind at all. barometer is falling. the temperature their degrees. but guess what? high pressure will be building in so that pressure will be rising as skies clear overnight and tomorrow. jeff is reporting in 27 degrees in coatesville. and that wind once again is woot light. he's saying clear skies and that is a sign of what we're going to be seeing moving eastward toward philadelphia overnight tonight. take lock outside right now we're looking at mostly cloudy skies down the shore. mostly cloudy skies in philadelphia. but as jeff just said in coatesville it's clearing and that's coming our way. so we'll look at conditions that are going to be changing. the clouds keeping the temperatures up right now down the shore. in atlantic city at the airport remember 9 miles and land, it's 31 degrees. 30 degrees in philadelphia. 27 in allentown and the poconos

some really good snow making weather get a lot packed powder at 23 degrees. in columbus it's 16. cold through atlanta. birmingham little rock at 30. so we are not a lone with this cold. and all of us will enjoy a warmup over the next couple of days. it's going to be slow but it will get here on storm scan3 you can see the clouds in our immediate area. that will be the trend overnight overnight. we'll watch that system that brought a little bit of snow down the shore. move farther away. sunshine for your thursday. in the a lot of wind. but then watch what happens. friday temperatures rise. but we have an area of low pressure to the north high pressure to the south. that causes a pressure gradient. even though temperatures will be close to 40 on friday, it won't feel like it with the win. the winds settle down saturday. temperatures in the 30s. and then by sunday it warms up but look at this. european model is showing a storm there is a chance we could see some rain and some wind late sunday. now as far as the rain is concerned, our american mother dell is not saying that much at
