i'm lauren lyster in for anne-marie green. krystofer lee cornell spoke of his support for the islamic state group. cornell planned a deadly attack against government officials. susan mcginnis is in washington. good morning, susan. >> good morning, lauren. authorities have apparently been watching cornell sense the sum wher enhe first started posting online his support for terror groups and making threats against members of continuation, but when it appears he was starting to put a plan to attack the u.s. capitol into action they made a move. they stopped 20-year-old christopher cornell as he was taking the final steps to washington and execute his plan. his plan was to kill employees and officers working in and around the u.s. capitol. cornell's plot was foiled outside this gun range in southwestern ohio. while he allegedly bought two

semiautomatic rifles and 600 rounds of ammunition police were waiting outside to arrest him. >> by that time. the agents had come across the parking lot. two agents were on top of him. two or stlee. >> reporter: court documents showed cornell posted other material online supporting isis. his father said he was a kid who somehow lost his way. >> i believe he was really vulnerable and i believe he was coerced in a lot of ways. >> last summer cornell allegedly told an fbi informant, i believe we should wage jihad under our own orders and plan attacks. lawmakers on the hill are placing the fbi for stopping the plot and they also remain concerned about the growing threat of home grown terrorists. michael mccaul pressed the administration to work your jen gently to counter violent islam

vehicle to help. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. the french authorities are still looking for a number of people. they're hoping to find anyone who was linked to the three attackers. they've identified six members of a terror cell who they say are still at large. they're also hoping to find a possible accomplice of amedy coulibaly, the man who shot a policewoman and killed hostages at that coroner supermarket east of paris. chilly new images of that hostage taking has now emerged. security video from inside the market show shocking pictures of coulibaly holding a gun to a store worker as hostages cower in the back. meanwhile a leader in the arabian peninsula says they're behind the attacks. he said the base chose the target, laid the plans, and financed the operation. now, while french and u.s.

intelligence officials have authenticated the video they're not so sure the claims are real and it may simply be opportunism on this side of the group. meanwhile later today secretary kerry arrives in paris, a little late, some say, because he wasn't here for that rally last sunday but he said he's here to speak with the french authorities about international terrorism. >> and elaine i know the issue of "charlie hebdo," the latest one, has been flying off newsstands, so what's going on with circulation? >> reporter: it's on the newsstands again today. they knew in advance this would be something everybody wants, so there were only 700,000 copies released yesterday. more are coming to stands today long before the newsstands open and still many people going away disappointed today knowing they'll have to come back

it comes after a series of embarrassments for the agency. agents hiring prostitutes after a presidential trip to colombia, failure to detect gunshots fired at the white house, and the fence jumper who made it into the white house last fall. a report by an independent commission last month called for new leadership at the agency saying it was too insular and needs to strengthen the culture of accountability. the rank-and-file and even very senior members do not have confidence that the system is compose odd of a fir and consistent manner. it's still without a permanent director following the resignation of julia pierson last october. the panel directed the new director be someone with a law enforcement or military background but from outside the agency. bill plante, cbs news the white house. pope francis begins a five-day visit to the philippines today. it's the first papal visit there

right at them and instead of diving down it bumped their tour boat. no one was hurt in the close encounter. two climbers are celebrating a historic ascent this morning. wednesday they completed what's considered the world's most difficult rock climb. john blackstone reports from yosemite national park. >> reporter: they were cheered by friends an family for miles. they had to wait hours to celebrate. at the top they got a congratulatory tweet from president obama. the climbers were about 500 feet from the top. it still presented a challenge. kevin jorgenson and tommy caldwell spent seven years planning this adventure but they spent much of the time surveying the more difficult lower parts of the route. they haven't been on the top

jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning, jill. customer service could take a little bit longer for people who are looking for help from the irs this year. it is dramatically being cut because of budget cuts. onto half of the 100 million people expected to call the agency this year will be able to reach someone. congress cut the irs budget to the lowest level since 1998. low income tax finers will no longer get the help they need possibly filling out their returns. and tax refunds could be delayed. all of this as taxes get more complicated because of the new health care law. here on wall street volatility rains. stocks plunge. the dow finished 186 points lower. at one point. the dow is down nearly 350 points. the s&p 500 fell 11. the nasdaq lost 22 points. america's view of the national

economy is the most positive it's been since 2007. almost eight years, according to the new cbs news poll. 53% now believe the economy is in good shape. that's up 13 points since a year ago. and 56% of those asked now say the local job market is in good condition. and all bets are off at caesar's entertainment. the giant hotel company is expected to file for bankruptcy today. caesar's has lost revenue for the last five years. the fda approved an appetite suppressing implant designed to beat obesity. it uses electrodes implanted in the abdomen. the device basically fools the brain believes the patient's stomach is full. it's approved for people who have tried other weight loss plans and for those with

reported her son missing this week 20 years after he left home to follow the grateful dead. margarita evans said her son disappeared in 1995. it's not clear why she waited until this week to contact police, but it may have been spurred by a recent discussion on the internet about the 1995 death of an unidentified grateful dead fan in virginia. he had two grateful dead ticket stubs in his pocket a lighter, but no i.d. investigators are doing a dna test on the unidentified victim to determine if he is callahan. this morning nasa is trying to figure out what triggered an alarm aboard the international space station wednesday. omar villafranca report os a scare that sent three astronauts from their quarters. >> reporter: astronauts aboard the international space station reopened the hatch to the u.s. side hours after a possible pneumonia leak forced them to evacuate to the russian section.
