today, it is thursday, january 15th good morning i'm ukee washington. i'm nicole brewer in for erika this morning. here are stories we are following. water gushes in the air after a water main break in northeast philadelphia. we will bring you up to date on the repair. police stopped by the home of the murder suspect's parents, find out why they were there. sting operation lead fed to the plot to blow up the u.s. capitol. how did they catch the suspects. >> those stories and much more coming up. lets tart with the forecast. it will be an okay seasonal yan day i guess let's find out. >> i suppose. >> yes. >> you know what we did come up a pretty quick hitting storm yesterday, a completely mixed bag here down in cape may they had a quick coating

to an inch of snow. we had a few cloud here in philadelphia. today is uniform for a change. everybody gets in on a exact same forecast. little different in terms of temperatures. we will have more moderation out the in the open ocean water. you can make out the the casino. skies will be clearing for us. that goes not just for atlantic city but every where else. even though we have a few cloud overhead for now it will as ukee said be another chilly day. we have more sunshine. that will not last forever. we have a new storm system. i will have details on that as well back to you. major water main break in northeast philadelphia sends water shooting hundreds of feet in the air. >> luckily in customers are affect. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao joins us at the scene where crews will return in a few hearst to try to find a shut off valve, jan good morning. >> that is right. >> reporter: we have seen our fair share of water main breaks over the past week. it that is time of the year

but nothing quite like the water main break we see here in northeast philadelphia a you can see that water shooting still over the the trees this main broke at 7:00 last night water crews worked hours to try to get a fix in place but could not. we will be back on the scene at 8:00 this morning this looked more like a geyser a at grant avenue and blue grass road the a the height of the break water was seen shooting 200 feet in the air. the philadelphia water department says 10-inch main is a fire service connection so no water service has been impacted to customers, in the the area. that is the good news. crews were working on the problem here for nearly five hours last night. one worker was injured and taken to the hospital however, in stable condition. now because the working conditions became unsafe at the scene crews had to stop for the night. you can tell they are running into some problems. >> concern wise, just getting as much as we can and making sure we're in the process to maintain water service for

other customers in case we have to turn other valves off to find the proper location for this valve. >> reporter: you can see chopper three was over the scene last night as well certainly a sight to see in northeast philadelphia fortunately, again no water customers have been impact by this main break a fire service line, of course, causing the the problem, however crews will be back on the scene at 8:00 this morning to try to fix the problem. no cause of the break has been determined just yet. reporting live from northeast philadelphia jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". it the that is time of the year, that is for sure, 4:33. lets check on that forecast. >> nicole, we will continue to find cold air in place right now but it is nothing that is all that atypical. this is january after all. it is winter. a lot of times we have issues with these pipes. storm scan three is quiet. yesterday we had outer band from the system to the north that brought in snow rain, sleet and mess across southern

most counties but everyone in the clear at this point. we're responding at the this point to lingering, cloud cover overhead. not really finding anything in the way of precipitation across the the north east, very modest lake enhanced moisture being pick up here down wind of lake erie a and ontario but that isn't producing much for typical belt area. what we're left with here is a quiet day. there will not be any big factor thaw notice about the day other than it is seasonal and chilly but it is january. 30 degrees is the current temperature here at philly international. we have 29 in ac. twenty-one millville. chilly start but not terribly windy. what you are getting on the thermometer is how it feels outside. twenty-six in doylestown. twenty-seven quakertown. the list goes on. you get the idea. more sunshine throughout the day. bright but cold. bundle up, have the sunglasses ready to go. plenty of sunshine to get through the rest of the day as well. we will hit 37 degrees. the here's just a head up down

the road here. we will wrap up on a chilly note but quiet overall. by sunday we are watching for a new coastal storm. so again we will have more details on that as the morning progresses but for now it is tranquil vittoria. >> very calm quiet, and on all of our majors and we are not dealing with any problems right now. a as we wait for rush hour let talk about the schuylkill expressway. seventy-six is moving exceptionally great around center city and western suburbs. basically the entire stretch. also as we zoom in toward new jersey the 42 freeway indicating no problems. north bounties your head lights taillights southbound but there is barely anyone out there and good indication we are moving just fine this morning and it is not only on the 42, this shot not too far from 295 but anywhere in new jersey anywhere in delaware and anywhere practically in pennsylvania. we have an incident to talk about in just a moment. let talk about the tacony palmyra bridge. they are anticipating an opening at 4:50.

we are 20 minutes less than that shy a at that point. the lets talk about ab accident at i-95 northbound at route 31. right and center lane block. there is an accident investigation as well. you will want to anticipate activity in that sicklerville. a a woman call 911 and came home and found a fire in her kitchen. she was able to get out safery but her dog died in that fire. red cross is working to help that home owner. ohio man is under arrest for allegedly plotting a terror attack on the u.s.

capitol. the court papers says christopher lee cornell plot todd attack the capitol with guns and pipe bombs. a foreman tipped authorities that cornell wanted to carry out an attack in the u.s. in support officeis. cornell says he saw members of the congress as enemies and planned to kill employees and officials in and around the state capitol. >> he was like a big kid, his big friend. >> fbi as cornell was taken into custody after buying two semiautomatic rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in the sting operation. fbi says the public was never in any danger. the threat came hours after the delaware air national guard base in new castle county increased security. officials he tell us on monday and tuesday that several cars stopped to ask for directions at the base. some pulled in and then backup and left. the the suspicious activity was enough for army officials to tighten security.

officials stress they have no specific threat. there is surveillance video of the cars and officials say they are reviewing it. also a suspicious package forced an evacuation at joint base maguire dix lakehurst in south jersey. the package was found in the commissary exchange complex. the all clear was given after it was deemed the package was harmless. for very latest on the capitol plot and security situation at military bases in our area check out cbs philly.com. police continue to search for a burglary suspect who targetedded a southwest philadelphia church. surveillance camera captured the bandit on the move on the 1600 block of elmwood avenue. police say that man broke through a side window at straight gate church december 13th and then took a copper piping, and some plumbing tools. police tell us that the church is now under renovation. >> the church goodies for the the community renovating the church, bringing people together. we have people taking

advantage. >> police say the stolen copper is valued at more than $3,000. suspect is driving a dark suv. if you can identify him, please call police. another crime caught on cameras search is on for a suspect who stole a philadelphia police bike at 21 south 12th street in washington square. investigators say the officer responded to a call on the fourth floor that left his bike in the lobby last friday. the minutes later the the suspect entered that building. he walk off with the bike and attached police equipment. pretty brazen for sure. 4:39. much more to cover on cbs-3 "eyewitness news" a sex scandal forces a law maker out of office but now he has his old job. flyers rookie goalie was between the pipes last night fly guys and caps on the other side, we will be right back.

but we have a new coastal storm system which looks like the timing making its retreat in time formatter inn luther king day and of course, the day of service but that storm is no where to be found. it is still a couple days away here. let's discuss what we are finding on storm scan three. not much of anything that will affect us. here's the retreat of the system that brought the in the snow across our area yesterday making that full retreat at this point. it is some wet weather down across the deep south lower mississippi valley that will move to the south. meanwhile if you look closely you can see this little trail of cloud. this is beginnings of the next frontal boundary that will cross through. the it doesn't have a lot of moisture and will not have much moisture by the time it reaches us tomorrow. we are going to see a cold wind kick in. storm scan the at the local level we make tri-state sweep and in the one little flicker of ground clutter being pick

we have some breaking news this morning. a geyser of water is shooting out of the ground near grant avenue and blue grass road in northeast philadelphia we are told water main service connection and no customers are affect. that is good news here. water department employee was injured and at nazareth hospital right now. crews say they will be back out there at 8:00 this morning to finish that job. search is on for cause of the house fire in sicklerville camden county. fire started in the kitchen. no people were injured but a dog died in that fire. christopher cornell is under arrest this morning, cornell allegedly plotted to attack the u.s. capitol with guns and pipe bombs. cornell was arrested after a sting operation. >> your time is 4:49. >> lets check on business. >> money watch's jill wagner joins us live from the new york stock exchange.

traveling ben franklin bridge we have in problems to and from new jersey or philadelphia betsy ross bridge is months well. if you are traveling tacony palmyra bridge right now they are reporting the bridge closed, all because of ani3 opening. the opening was scheduled four minutes ago so they are probably preparing for that opening right now. traveling 73 you cannot the at this point. as we move toward, 95 northbound if you are traveling at route 31, we have an accident here unfortunately we are still dealing with a few lane blockages as well and accident investigation so avoid that area if you can. seventy-three northbound in new jersey off ramp to 537 is block just due to down wires. katie, how are we looking weather-wise. >> not that much going on out here vittoria. at least initially. things are very quiet. that is how it will stay right through sat the day. sun take however, well, that is not just to go downhill but become a whole new ballgame for us. meanwhile january chillies certainly upon us here, how bit, high temperature
