news" for january 16th 2015. good morning. i'm lauren lyster in for anne-marie green. authorities in at least three countries have carried out raids against suspected terrorists in the past 24 hours. the continent remains on high alert after last week's deadly attacks aet a french newspaper and a parisian grocery store. elaine cobb is in paris. elaine, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. french police cared out raids overnight. ten people were detained. police believe they may have provided logistical support for last week's attacks here including sourcing weapons and a car. we also just heard that german police have taken two men into custody this morning in berlin. the men are being held on recruiting fighters and giving

equipment and funding for isis. the biggest raids were in neighboring belgium. security forces there raided ten location including a former bakery last night in the town of of. making a belated trip to offer support to the french. he said he wanted to give france a hug. he had a roundtable meeting with president francois hollande. then he went to lay a wreath at a kosher supermarket where four hostages were killed. he's also the offices of "charlie hebdo" where he's also placed flowers and met a survivor there who he hugged. >> elaine cobb thank you. meanwhile. it's not clear where the training will take place but

turkey qatar, and saudi arabia have offer to host the training. in washington this morning president obama and british prime minister david cameron are expected to announce the u.s. and uk will stage cyber war games. the president hosted it last night. the cyber war games will simulate attacks on banks and financial sectors. david cameron will be bob schieffer's guest on this sunday's "face the nation" on cbs. pope francis is making headlines during his visit to the philippines during a mass this morning. he challenged the philippine government to overcome decades of poverty and corruption. and before he even landed in the philippines thursday the pope made some surprising comments about the terror attack in paris. anna joins us by phone this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. perhaps the biggest trip

happened on board the plane to the philippines. the pope said freedom of expression and freedom of religion were basic fundamental rights and he unequivocally stated there's no justification for religious violence but he also cautioned against ridiculing other religions. he referred to the comments in "charlie hebdo" and said you cannot provoke, you cannot insult or make fun of the faith of others. to illustrate this point the pope pointed to a vatican official standing next to him and he said if a dear friend said a swear word against my mother, that's normal he said, throwing a mock punch at the official. the vatican issued a declaration later that day that said the pope's remarks should not be distorted or manipulated. lauren? >> all right.

in just looking at what's going on with the visit in the philippines, we do know that a mavis crowd is expected sunday when he holds mass in manila. what can you tell us about that. >> caller: that's correct lauren. many millions of people are expected to attend a mass in manila on sunday. now, keep in mind the biggest single papal event in history was a mass held by john paul ii in 1995 when 5 million people attended. so attendance on sunday is expected to be 5 million. some say up to 6 million, which would make it the biggest papal visit ever. the pope's visit is one of the biggest security operations i've ever seen unfolded in the philippines. >> those numbers are staggering. anna matranga in manila, thank

officials in connecticut are investigating the cause of an earthquake outbreak. a dozen quakes have struck around the town of plainfield this week. as jericka duncan reports, residents are shaken. >> reporter: in the last week rattled plainfield connecticut, residents have made more than 300 calls to 911. >> i just had a big explosion. i don't know what it is but my whole house shook. >> it's coming from all over the area. i'm getting lots of calls, ma'am. >> reporter: marian diggs says she's felt every earthquake. >> i was sitting in bed drinking my cup of coffee before everybody got up, my time and all of a sudden i heard this loud boom. >> reporter: people have heard the minor earthquakes. most have been under a 2.0
