♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". now at 11:00 o'clock a drug bust gone bad. police open fire on a suspect. they say he tried to run down an officer in order to avoid arrest. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. it was a close call for police on 69th street in upper darby delaware county tonight.

that's where "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live with details. diana? >> reporter: jessica quite a chaotic scene when police were conducting a raid on the suspect suspect, he ran and went right for police officer. philadelphia man is in jail after trying to run down an upper darby police officer on 69th street friday afternoon. the female officer pulled her gun. >> she fires one shot at the vehicle. the shot enters through the window of the vehicle. the vehicle then knocks over two or three parking meters. we had him boxed in we thought but he drove right up on to the sidewalk. >> reporter: police were conducting a raid on the suspect who sold drugs to uncovers on four separate occasions. he got away jumping in his car and ramming the front door of a furniture store then begunking for the officer. police pulled him out of the car where the window was shot out. inside bundles of heroin and semi-automatic weapon much on

the suspect they found thousands in heroin and crack. >> we got a load of dope. four buys off of him. we got a gun. he'll be in jail long time. >> reporter: so the officer was not injured. that suss is now in custody. he will likely be facing charges of attempted murder and other drug related offenses. we're live in upper darby tonight, diana rocco cbs3 it were the news. >> diana, thank you. new information tonight police say a 14-year-old stabbed by a 16 year old in west philadelphia has died from his injuries. that stabbing happened at 46th and market this afternoon. police say an argument that began during lunch at west philadelphia high school today spilled into the after school hours and then turned violent. that 16 year old is now under arrest. >> well as we head into the weekend, we are tracking some wet weather out there and also some cold temperatures tonight. meteorologist kate bilo is in for kathy of the she's bundled up out on the cbs3 sky deck with a look ahead to that weekend

kate. >> thanks chris. you definitely need the gloves the coat the scarf anything you can find tonight and tomorrow morning. the cold is here and then we've got a coastal storm but unfortunately for snow lovers these two things the cold and the coastal storm really don't match up timeing wise so it look like we'll have a day of cold and then a day of warmer weather with some rain as that storm comes up the coast. let's take look what's happening right now. storm scan3 is clear even if we zoom out across the northeast everything looking pretty quiet tonight. although with that clear sky temperatures are dropping on clear calm night that is a recipe for cold and there's still a bit of a breeze out here right now. but temperatures are steadily dropping. we're at 27 at the airport. 27 right now in millville. look at mount pocono, 10 right now. in allentown it's a cold 20 but it feels like the single digits in many spots already. feels like nine in allentown. feels like six below zero in mount pocono right now and it feels like 17 in philadelphia as the wind is still a factor tonight making it feel more than 10 degrees colder than the

investigators say the killer carefully covered his face even lowering his head as he passes cameras all signs they say of a well-planned hit. >> it's just incredible that something -- this insane could happen to such a good person. >> jones was a social worker who devoted her life to children. she was nope as miss kim to boys and girls at the church of the advocate where she helped launch an after school meal program. tonight we're learning new details about a temple university student who fell from a window and to her death. the victim has been identified as 18 year old rebecca kim. authorities say she was visiting two male students at an art institute of philadelphia dorm near 16th and chestnut when she fell from that eighth floor window. friends say kim was a freshman pharmacy student. >> she was really nice. really sweet. very helpful much always smiling. real positive person. i couldn't see her -- i could see her having a real good

future. she seemed like a smart girl. overall nice person. like so sad to hear that that happened. >> kim fell on top of a 44-year-old woman who suffered neck and back injuries. she also lost some team but expected to recover. well the deadly effects of the flu are being felt in delaware this season. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown traveled to dover tonight to fine out why the flu has made such a big foot principal in the first state. >> reporter: delaware may be a small state but being dealt a huge below this flu season. the state is reporting its 16th flu fatality all but one death has been linked to seniors over 65 years old. >> it's a very severe flu season. >> reporter: paul silverman is deputy director of the delaware public health department. he says although delaware's cases have risen significantly this year, this flu epidemic knows no boundaries. >> we have good surveillance so we're more likely to be informed about cases perhaps than some other states. but this is really an epidemic

that's hitting the whole country. >> reporter: the state of delaware has been hit especially hard boy this flu pandemic. this time last year, they were dealing with about 100 cases. so far this year, they're already up to 1600 and flu season is far from over. health officials are urging the older population to seek treatment as soon as flu-like symptoms arise. health officials also say this flu season struck early before the holiday season which may have spike the number of cases. >> hitting the state before the holidays and after the holidays make a big difference it could be why we have so many cases and also means that we're probably in for an extended flu season. >> i've never had flu shot. knock on wood. >> reporter: although russ perry isn't getting a flu shot his wife is a health care worker worker. so it was an necessary system. >> being able to help control part of environment and the facility i work at is really important. >> reporter: as for the effectiveness of the flu vaccine -- >> it's still the best protection that we have and we're still recommending it.

>> reporter: in dover delaware natasha brown cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> you can find a whole lot more information on the flu if you log on to cbsphilly.com/flu. we've got more on symptoms, risk factorsfactors and how best to protect yourself from that dangerous virus. new developments tonight in the scandal surrounding the comedian bill cosby. his attorney now says that cosby was not at the playboy mansion on the night a model accuses him of drugging and sexually abusing her. cosby's attorney says he was in new york that night. the woman met with police on wednesday telling them that the alleged incident occurred in august of 2008. more than 15 women have accused of cosby of drugging and sexually abusing them. the supreme court will decide whether same sex couples nationwide have the right to marry. the justices will review an appeals court ruling that upheld same sex marriage bans in four states. this sets up a potentially historic ruling.

>> one year ago we got to know amber long in the most tragic of circumstance. 12 months later her loss remains raw for her mother who still waiting for answers working hard to keep her daughter's memory alive. our steve patterson has the story. >> she's worth talking about much she's worth remembering. >> reporter: one year ago 26-year-old philadelphia university architecture student amber long was shot and killed murdered right in front of her best friend her mother's stephanie. >> as long as i'm alive she won't be dead. >> on january 19th 2014, amber and stephanie were walking cidar by side after a party. the rest placet on surveillance video the pair on her way to pick up amber's car from front street in northern liberties confronted by two men. one of them grabs and steal stephanie' purse when a second tried to the same to amber her daughter holds on.

am brrr was shot once at point blank range in the chest. stephanie watched as her daughter lay dying in her arm. one year later the case remains unsolved. >> i have my special investigative unit working it and as they get leads and tips they run off. >> philadelphia police captain james clark says so far all leads have led to dead ends. >> i've taken it very personal we want to catch the killers but we'll need the public's help. >> still stephanie says a year without answers without leads without justice is painful. >> to wake up in the morning on your daughter's birthday and know there's nowhere in the world that you can call her and wish her happy birthday it's just -- it's a horrible feeling. report roar despite all the pain stephanie stays active in her daughter's legacy. she spent the year raising money for scholarship fund established by philadelphia university in part by selling some of amber's paintings at her jewelry store

"eyewitness news" in flourtown. the all girls prep school kicked off the fundraiser 8:00 o'clock tonight. they'll be dancing until 8:00 o'clock tomorrow morning. good energy there. and more generosity for 16 students. they volunteered to cut their hair and donate it toward making wigs for cancer patients. tonight's mini thon has raised

more than $30,000 for pediatric cancer. >> the week zen upon us we're hoping for some good weather. but maybe not. >> it sounds like from kate is telling us it will go half and half. >> half and half weekend that's exactly what we're looking at. we're looking at a cold, bright saturday then a milder but wet sunday. for my money i'll take it cold and bright any day of the week especially this time of the year we need all the sunshine and vitamin d we can get. the good news if you're in the a fan of shoveling snow is that the coastal storm and the cold don't make that connection so it look like things will stay just rain on sunday. let's take look outside. one spot that has snow if you are a snow lover this is where you want to go. jack frost big boulder up in carbon county the snow is on the slopes looking pretty good right now. most of that is manmade snow and certainly be making more snow as we head into tomorrow with the cold air. take a look at storm scan3 you can see not a whole lot going on across the region at the mommy. we're pretty dry for now and just a cold wind out of the north and west in fact our storm

really not even visible yet on the radar picture it hasn't even formed yet. it will form off the coast of carolinas as we get into the day tomorrow and head our way on sunday. checking in with our "eyewitness weather" watchers we'll check temperatures across the region. you can see most of us are in the 20s all across the area right now. take look at this report. this is from gary in warminster reporting a clear sky and township degrees. 25 as we head further into new jersey fire marshal joey in somerdale reporting 25 and a clear sky. and he says a dreary chilly winter night in somerdale. wind is at 13 miles per hour there right now. heading down into delaware 29 degrees says tyler ross he's in bear, delaware. tyler actually took this picture i don't know if you can see it, very very tiny here but i appreciate the effort. right there that is marches he said he had to go out and take a picture of mars shining brightly in the night sky tonight. thank you tyler. let's take a peek what we can expect as we move forward. showed you storm scan3. everything quite there for now. temperatures have dropped on a clear night as the winds slowly

subside. we're seeing temperatures down in the 20s all across the region region. it's 20 in allentown. 27 in philadelphia. 10 right now in mount pocono. and it's 23 in reading and as we showed you earlier it feels about 10 degrees colder than the thermometer indicates thanks to that gusty breeze which is still with us here this evening. mount pocono feels like minus sick at the mommy. so again a half and half weekend weekend. saturday is cold. there's no way around it temperatures barely getting above freezing but it's wall to wall sunshine from sun up to sundown a clear sky just a beautiful looking day. high pressure overhead and less wind than today as well so as long as you bundle up not bad january day to get outside. sunday highs back in the 40s. actually above average not going to have much time to get outside and enjoy it because here comes that coastal storm and it will bring some heavy rain right up and count coast as we go through the day sunday. heaviest will be from the city on east through the day heaviest amounts will be down the shore but we can all expect to see rain steady at times on sunday
