an icy commute. this is a live look what you can expect as you hit the roads in many areas a fleet of salt trucks were busy all night long prepping roads to keep everybody safe. now it's up to drivers to slow your roll. >> first we had ice yesterday morning. then rain just wouldn't stop. >> it wouldn't stop. >> we had it all day even though temperatures had a chance top moderate up. thankfully worse of the ice melting away a little bit. it was still terrible day. when i show you -- wait until you show you rainfall amounts ukee they were impressive. imagine if it was all snow, it would be 19 inches if you did the step to one ratio. we are grateful it was just rain. freezing rain aspect of this

yesterday that really, really was a problem. thankfully though all the rain is out of here. we take you to storm scan three and there's wind-driven, light precipitation in upper levels and most of this is not hitting the ground. but it is certainly worth mentioning. more than anything it's getting our wind flow going out of northwest. here's the thing, guys, if it looks wet expect it has likely frozen over. even though you're above technically above freezing with air temperature allentown trenton, wildwood, there's a lot of puddles left behind with rain amounts we showed you and ground is nice and cold and in a lot of cases colder than the air s it wo will have had a chance to freeze over. be careful. what you see here is not what you get. there's hidden hazards that come along with morning like this when temperatures are what they are. and hey at least we can guarantee you'll see sun today. and typical chill in the air with north west wind stick kicking in and in philly 4 1. jess over to you.

>> sunshine is the only silver lining we have to go with today. good morning everybody again most of the major roadways are relatively empty this time of morning and that does not mean we don't want you to give yourself extra time headed out the door. especially area bridges as well tend to be slippery and definitely first. out open the boulevard around fox street everything moving great. around here, southbound looking great. northbound having no problems there as well. now over on the schuylkill expressway around girard eastbound lanes headed to center city area moving along long okay. westbound seems to be going just doing pretty much the same thing and although we can see there's not a lot of volume on either side give yourself extra time everything looks shipy and it could be icy as well and slippery. we have a building fire i cheltenham between williams way and macy way. take shell tan ham. accident claymont delaware,

philadelphia pike closed harvey road until 6 a.m. about a half hour we have of police activity on the scene there still. governor prince boulevard or 495 the alternate to get on buy. >> one of the biggest service sights in all of the country today. there will be 150 activities here at the college alone. we're all set up and ready to go. not a big day here but a big day throughout greater philadelphia. a national record 1 35,000 volunteers will partake in service activities throughout delaware new jersey and

pennsylvania and now this year's greater philadelphia day of service celebrates two anniversaries first is 5th anniversary of 1965 visit of dr. king to gates of girard college during which he pushed for end to discriminate fairy admissions. and 1965 voting right act. you can see a lot of stuff here actually indicates that theme. of course, that voting rights act outlawed racial discrimination in voting. organizeers man on supporting that law. today's activities include making voter signs and demonstrating how to use real voting machines. it's not just about civil right and civil equality but economic equality and helm equality. there will be a health fair here as well as jobs fair. a lot of activity. 150 of them and more than 5,000

no additional rain in the forecast. the storm pull ago we and this little nonsense here is not precip hitting ground it's more whipped driven moisture up in the upper level atmosphere. wednesday, future warm, we're tracking our next clipper system. clippers tend to move quickly. this will be over great lakes early wednesday morning and already here 3 p.m.. notice we have mixing going on. if it is warm enough we'll likely have rain and snow and probably some potential for slick spots once again. but eventually there will be enough cold air we start to see it taking over the map. light snow. i don't think you're looking at more than a coating or inch in philadelphia. some of the models are trying to pick up more than that in the lehigh valley and poconos. meanwhile, blustery, partly sunny, watch for slick spots. that's one big story of the morning for us weather-wise. later on tonight a couple clouds. and it will be another cold one. we look forward in the eyewitness weather 7 day
