breaking news tonight. a huge devastating fire in new jersey destroys apartments. hundreds of residents are affected as firefighters struggle to get this under control. also tonight icing concerns as we head into the overnight after wet snowfalls all across the area. and now another potentially big storm is looming. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. we have two school delays to report to you tonight atlantic city atlantic city public schools and quakertown christian school will open two showers late. >> we've got team three coverage for you our reporters have fanned out across the region tracking the current conditions but we'll begin with meteorologist kathy orr. she's in the wet center with updated forecast now. kathy? >> chris and jess we're talking about the clipper long gone. icy concerns with the refreeze overnight and also because of a little patch of snow. a patch of snow that will move eastward and could create some freezing drizzle overnight. take a look. we're looking at storm scan3. you can see right now nothing

but a mostly cloudy sky out there. that's the good news. as far as our storm accumulation accumulations concerned the snowfall amounts highest in south jersey and delaware weather watchers are reporting 2.5-inches in clayton pemberton an inch. bellmawr half an inch and philadelphia a half an inch of snow but i weren't to draw your attention toward the pittsburgh area. this patch of snow and rain it's moving eastward. our computer models are saying, yes, a little bit of this will be making it into the philadelphia area in the form of some freezing drizzle and that means with temperatures falling well below freezing overnight tonight even through 7am tomorrow morning anything that falls obviously will be freezing. so we want to keep you ahead of that. also, the national weather service has extended that winter weather advisory for a trace of ice across a good part of the region, of course, until tomorrow morning 8am. after that our temperatures will be rising you above freezing that is the very latest from the weather center. we'll have more details on a storm coming this weekend a

little bit later on in the broadcast but now jess we'll zen it over to you. >> kathy thank. now that this snow has moved on there are concerns that what's on the ground could turn to ice overnight. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco is live along kings highway in haddonfield with more. diana? >> reporter: jessica, here in downtown haddonfield we did see about an inch of snow which was enough this evening to give everything a nice white coating and make those surfaces slick. but head south of here to comer land county and it's a different story entirely. the snow may have stopped but throughout south jersey, crews are out treating roads and the signs of winter are everywhere you look. in millville more than 3-inches covered shopping center parking lots and road signs. but it didn't keep everyone home home. >> it's not too bad. i mean, you know, people have to realize that they've got to take their time gone slow and you know just be more careful. >> reporter: throughout cumberland county shovels are out work crews are busy clearing

parking lots and sidewalks. in glassboro white blanketed side roads and yards some opted to trade shovels for little lighter equipment. >> i actually had work six to 8am this morning i've been home every since. >> salters were out treating roads for everyone to get home during the heaviest parts of the storm. students on their way to and from class at rowan university while staff sauled sidewalks. >> snow is not going to stop us. we have to get the job done. >> reporter: many of the roads remain clear throughout the night. snow stuck to cars and windshields for some drivers they seemed to think less of an inconvenience and more of a mid winter treat. >> i love snow. i moved down here quite a number of years ago from boston to me this is nothing. >> i love it. >> reporter: and here's a live look at kings highway at this hour. just within the last hour we did see some road crews going by dropping salt and treating the road making sure things are all clear for the morning commute. we're live in haddonfield tonight, i'm diana rocco cbs3

"eyewitness news". >> diana, thank you. pennsylvania penndot worked all day and night to keep the roads clear. todd quinones continues our team coverage now live in plymouth meeting, montgomery county with more on the condition there is. todd? >> reporter: jessica the snow stopped falling hour just before 8:00 o'clock this evening. and now the attention for penndot officials turns towards the morning commute. tom didn't bring the kind of accumulation penndot was anticipating to philadelphia and the surrounding counties but in the wake of sunday morning's deadly flash freeze event on the schuylkill expressway and blue route plenty of salt was being spread on area highways. >> it's a flash freeze. it can happen instantly. this aspect is a completely different animal. >> reporter: with air temperatures hovering just below the freezing mark nightfall it wasn't cold enough and there wasn't the rain needed to create a widespread flash freeze. >> something else. it was very scary stuff. >> reporter: but the images from sunday are still fresh in the minds of drivers we talked

to making an even relatively mild winter storm like this cause for concern. >> when you're on the highway it's like you got to pre pair yourself for anything that's going to happen. >> reporter: in the places around norristown there was just enough accumulation to shovel sidewalks. the roads though for the most part remained clear but penndot crews are preparing for the morning commute. >> we'll just have a few crews working around the clock like i said after midnight just for any potential ice up that is may happen. >> reporter: now the roads and highways here in this area for the most part are just wet and drivers are able to get with no problems. reporting live tonight in plymouth meeting todd quinones cbs3 witness news. >> todd, thank you very much. we turn our attention now to delaware where they're also facing icy concerns tonight. meteorologist justin drabick is on the roads in bear with the cbs3 mobile weather lab. justin? >> reporter: hey good evening chris. delaware one of places that got

hit harder with snow. one to 2-inches over most locations in new castle county and kent conte. here in bear delaware, reports around here about 1.3-inches and again the main roads looking good. route 40 is just wet as well as route 1. but again the neighborhoods we have to watch out. you can see a lot of snow on the sidewalks and caked on the trees that's where you get the one to 2-inches, but still on the streets a little bit of a coating a little icy coating of snow and slush. that's going to be an issue through the overnight hours. right now current temperature of 30 degrees. watch out with that is untreated surfaces. let's talk about those conditions through the overnight overnight. we have to mention the icy spots again there could be few areas of patchy freezing drizzle or fog that will leave a little glaze of ice over the untreated surfaces. so use extra caution while just walking overnight. see a lot of people walking their dog at this hour. and keep in mind early tomorrow morning stepping outside your front doorstep and your driveway will be icy. again we'll bring you back here

traffic updates before you head out the door. breaking news now. towering flames stretching for blocks light up the night sky in north jersey. an intense fire roars through a big apartment building in bergen county and firefighters there are having a tough time getting that is one under control. reporter jessica schneider of our sister station cbs two in new york is at the scene with the latest. >> reporter: it is an intense blaze out here. that can be seen for miles around. over the past few hours portions of the building just behind me have collapsed. sounding like small explosions. this intense fire stretches for at least three city blocks. it's affected at least 400 people and it is still raging out of control. one firefighter i spoke with says he's never seen a blaze like this. this fire started around 4:30 this afternoon but by 6:00 o'clock the flames could be seen for milsey round here. the george washington bridge as

well as across the river in manhattan. numerous fire departments from all over bergen county in new jersey are assisting out who are. more than 400 people were evacuateed. firefighters in fact having to help people get out the building buildings. i spoke with a fire batallion chief from a nearby town who told me that the water situation actually out here is proving very problematic. >> when you hit the hydrant in so many locations it lowers the pressure report roar not lot of water to fight this thing. >> not a lot of water. >> reporter: this fire spans for several apartment buildings. many people out here concerned that the heat and the fire will actually jump to neighboring homes. so many people in the neighboring homes around here have also been evacuateed. this same spot was where a huge blaze also erupted back in 2000 sand. people say this one is just as bad as that one, 15 years ago. in edgewater new jersey, jessica schneider, cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> well tonight a police dash

cam video shows exactly what happened during a deadly traffic stop in bridgeton, new jersey last month. police officer rah-rah whom days pulled over a car for running a stop sign. when he approaches on the passenger side he see as gun. while his partner covered the driver days grabs the gun and tells man in the passenger seat not to move but then moments later the passenger pushed his way out of the car and the officer opened fire. that pass injury was 36-year-old jerome reid. he was killed. cumberland county prosecutor jeff four web mc ray recused herself from this investigation because she notice officer days but some think that's not enough. two civil rights organize today's asked for the case to be turned over to the new jersey attorney general. >> we're demanding that prosecutor mc ray recuse her entire staff from this investigation, give it to the attorney general's office.

>> the attorney general's office said it would not take over that investigation. but the cumberland county prosecutor' office says in a statement, it will handle it and ultimately present the case to grand jury the undispute the facts indicate that the use of force was justifiable under the law ". cbs news is reporting tonight that federal civil rights charges are not expected to be filed against darren wilson much he's the white police officer who shot and killed the unarmed black teenager michael brown in ferguson missouri. fbi completed its investigation into incident. in the meantime we have new video tonight of looting in ferguson following the grand jury's decision not to indict officer wilson in november. st. louis county police are looking for more than 100 people who looted this market. new tonight a baby set on fire on a burlington county road is being remembered. community members gathered for a candlelight vigil at the browns mills united methodist church. pemberton township police say

her mother-fern kemberly door doorville yea doused her with act accelerant and set her on fire friday night. she's being held on five hadn't dread thousand dollars bail. the former philadelphia sportscaster don tollefson is behind bars tonight after a jury found him guilty today in his fraud trial. >> the jury has spoken and i believe in our legal system. >> tollefson was taken in handcuffs to prison in doylestown, buck county today. a jury found that he examined people and charities throughout the delaware valley out of $340,000. promising sports and travel packages he never delivered. prosecutors say that he used that money for personal expenses and to support a drug and alcohol habit. >> i think he's a narcissist. he has a god complex and he clearly loves himself more than anybody or anything else in the world. >> i believe that he intended to everything that he promised but he prom miff the impossible.

>> tollefson acted as his own attorney during the trial. he contended that he was simply a bad bookkeeper. don tollefson now facing up to 37 years in prison. we continue to follow this latest round of winter weather causing some freezing overnight. but what about another storm this one over the weekend? kathy. >> that's great question. right now, that storm is developing over texas. you can see a lot of moisture associated with it. rain and even snow. we'll talk about the possibilities for us come saturday with the seven day forecast. >> well we know shots were fired near vice-president joe biden's home in delaware this past weekend. tonight we're hearing from the vice-president about exactly exactly what happened there. >> and aally bond gross even stronger thanks to a double birthday. it's all coming up on eyewitness news.

13.5-inches fell in philadelphia. i'll bet you remember now. came is just ahead with more on tonight's forecast and the latest on the potential for an even bigger storm this coming weekend. we received confirmation today a gap jury recommended criminal charges against pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane. court documents were unsealed today. they showed that that grand jury believes kane should be charged with felony perjury and misdemeanor counts of falls swearing official oppression and obstruct. it's all relateed to the violation of grand jury secrecy rules in 2009 investigation. those findings are now in the hands of montgomery county today risa ferman. she'll decide whether to pursue a prr'ing. today in philadelphia, kane said she's being targeted by people had want her out of office. >> no i won't resign and i'll tell you why. i promised people of pennsylvania that i would fight public corruption. that is exactly what this is. the court systems are being used to overturn an election of somebody they just don't like.

somebody whose cleaning up harrisburg. somebody whose making sure child predators get off the streets. so i'm not giving up because i'm not in this just for me. i'm in it for everybody and quiet hospital nestly if they can do it to me they'll to it do somebody else and that is unacceptable in night book. >> kane was in the city today to announce arrest in a statewide drug rink. vice-president joe biden says he's not worried about his security after shots were fired near his home in delaware. the secret service is investigating saturday's drive by shooting incident in green greenville, new castle county. during annd view on cbs this morning, biden said officers found four shell casings spread over a large area. >> the car must have been going by at a high rate of speed. someone on the passenger side fired a gun and my house is on the drivers side about 100 yards i way. there's no evidence of anything hitting the house. i'm not at all worried. >> the bidens were not home at the time of that shooting. disneyland is now offering

to test all employees for measles and if needed provide them with the vaccine. since late december, 59 people have been sickened with the highly contagious disease in california. health officials say the cases have been linked to disney parks in california. they're warning unvaccinateed adults and children too young to be immune sized against measles to avoid the amusement park. >> skies are cloudy across the delaware valley. and we are looking at an additional sprinkle or two overnight. but that could be freezing drizzle that could create some problems come tomorrow morning. take look outside where skies are mostly cloudy, area streets have been treated so right now things moving along quite well. you're looking at the view from campbell's field across the ben franklin bridge towards center city philadelphia. some areas of fog are possible across the delaware valley during the overnight as well. so come tomorrow morning, could be just a little bit slick out there. some freezing drizzle and also reporting in few flurries out there as well. that report came from doug. did you go in southampton, new jersey temperature there 29 degrees. snowfall for today just 1.3-inches. no wind much that's got news with our current situation. right now 29 degrees reported in wenonah and you can see the temperature continues to drop there as we will be seeing a partly cloudy but cool air mass sitting over us. jim lives in media. dope worry no wind here either item temperature at 31 degrees. take look at some other totals across the delaware valley. these are from our "eyewitness weather" watchers. buena vista new jersey, an inch and a half. landenberg, pa about an inch. bear delaware, tyler is reporting in a tenth of an inch and coatesville jeff wilson says just a half an inch of snow. on storm scan3 we're in the dry clearing right now as far as the precipitation is concern. still seeing the clouds and a little patchy drizzle and actually a few flurries to the west that could create icy conditions come tomorrow morning

morning. here's some additional snowfall amounts through south jersey, some of our higher numbers in dennisville, woodbine 3-inches. 2.5 in northfield. dover 1.8 and philadelphia just half an inch of snow. snow covered looks pretty but that's just about it as far as the accumulation in the city. eyewitness cam takes us to read reading where lee says her and her daughter had a great time playing in the snow. just enough to get outside and enjoy. right now in philadelphia 31. 21 in the poconos. 27 in allentown and reading. and drying out overnight. come tomorrow morning mostly cloudy skies. and then during the afternoon toward the evening we will clear it out. so no weather issues for thursday. or for friday. friday looks clear. with some clouds beginning to build from the south. because a coastal storm is going to develop. we have a huge pattern change with an area of low pressure riding up the eastern seaboard. this is our gfs model pulling it farther to the east and with the eastern track we're talking about snow inland but a light accumulation of snow. our european model which is also

quite reliable in the distant future you can see tracking a little bit closer that means pulling in some warmer air along the coast but north and west seeing some heavier precipitation. so this inland track means a larger snowfall inland for philadelphia. this goes all the way up and down the eastern see bore. and actually a possibility of rain mixing in mainly at the shore this would mean a more significant snow. so european comes in overnight. we'll see more gfs models tomorrow morning as well and have a better idea of how much snow we're talking about. overnight freezing drizzle watch for patches of ice on untreated surface the low 25. the high tomorrow 40. on the exclusive eyewitness wet seven day forecast take look. conditions will be improving for your friday. deteriorating saturday. could be an all day event with the snow and then sunday dry monday light snow. tuesday and wednesday looking quite as we get toward the end of the month. wow! >> saturday is going to be

two sisters give birth to daughters on the same day just hours apart at the same hospital. >> it's amazeing. shannon and melissa had due dates 10 days apart. melissa went into labor as shannon had her delivery induced monday at holy redeemer hospital. shannon's baby is named vita jane. melissa's daughter a avery maryann. >> they came pretty much right after vita was born we just started talking and she was emotional. and she was holding her and then she says -- you could tell she was in pain. >> at first i kind of thought maybe i was, you know, just all the excitement and the anxiety of her having her baby. i can't be in labor. but it was. it was happening. >> the babies ended up being
