traffic, run off the embankment and hit a tree. romero and two other men inside the jeep were pronounced dead at the scene. the city of edge water, new jersey is in the state of emergency after a massive fire consumed a four story apartment building. that complex is just across the hudson river from new york city where smoke could be seen for miles away. cbs news correspondent don champion has latest from the scene. >> reporter: it took 250 fire fighters, more than 14 hearst, to bring this fire under control at an apartment complex in edge water, new jersey. >> it is devastate to go see a plane goes down like that. >> reporter: dina gomez and her family are a among five hundred resident fire displaced. they watched as it grew wednesday afternoon. >> when i saw the flames getting where it was spreading, because i could see from it my window and i said lets go we got to go. >> reporter: fire started around 4:30 in the complex that sits along the hudson river right across from new york city within an hour crews called in extra help and including fdny fire boats.

welcome back. a former philadelphia a homicide detective is facing criminal charge's cues of interfering with a murder investigation that involved his girl friend. our walt hunter is live at northeast detectives where the the suspect is behind bars. walt? >> reporter: well, chris that suspect former homicide detective ron dove is behind bars right behind me, he is now awaiting arraignment, accused of trying to side track his fellow detectives

and hide out his girlfriend, who was wanted in a murder investigation. only cbs-3 "eyewitness news" cameras were there as former philadelphia homicide detective ron dove was led away in handcuffs after surrendering on charges that he helped his girl friend accused killer erika sanchez in her alleged attempt to get away with murder. >> an experienced investigator used his specialized knowledge to prevent his own collogues from apprehending a murder suspect . >> reporter: in the days and hours after sanchez allegedly stabbed a man to death and in september of 2013 dove is accused of hiding her and evidence from fellow detectives. >> by the time they found her car, and search her apartment there was no evidence to recover. no murder weapon. no bloody clothes. in physical evidence. >> reporter: weeks later sanchez was tracked down and arrested, charged with murder. even though the the grand jury

found, dove tried to help her escape, he continued to call text, send money to sanchez in upstate new york paid for a hotel room for two nights in niagara falls. >> sometimes people think with their hearts and not the their heads and i think this is one of those cases. >> reporter: dove's defense attorney say the detective's girl friend was being viciously abused by the man she is now accused of killing. dove forced to make a choice between shielding the woman he loved and doing his sworn duty. >> i think it is his great regret that in his efforts to protect her he might have caused pain to the brave men and with men that he served with for many years. >> reporter: sanchez also facing additional charges for allegedly conspiring, with dove, the d.a. says grand jury investigation into dove is continuing and they are looking into additional cases. no word from the d.a. on when or if any additional charges will be filed. live from northeast

"eyewitness news" on the scene of the fire in darby boro, delaware county. those flames broke out before 11:00 at north ninth and summit streets no reports of any injuries there. well, there is some breaking news into the investigation of the pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane. late today the pennsylvania supreme court temporarily blocked the montgomery county district attorney from taking any action on a grand jury recommendation, that kane being charged criminally in the ledge leaks of secret investigative material from her office. the court will hear kane's challenge in march to the legality of the special prosecutor appointed to investigate her office. kane has maintained she has done nothing wrong. the case had been sent to montgomery county d.a. risa vetri furhman and she would deciding whether kane would be criminally charged. still ahead on "eyewitness news" at 5:00 on line privacy
